I read this book as part of a for-credit course I am taking for my certificate renewal. The book is interesting enough and offers some eye-opening information about how school leaders need to focus on innovating schools and the learning within them. Some of the ideas seemed to be more "pie in the sky" than realistic for our small community and school, but many things were adaptable to a variety of school climates. The writing itself is engaging, though at times it seems like certain concepts are stuck in where they don't logically fit.

If you are a leader in education and are curious about how to be a leader in a digital age, this is a great place to start. Gustafson offers many personal experiences as well as researched and proven methods for "creating innovative schools for digital-age students" (part of the title). What I appreciated about his approach to writing for the audience is his use of guiding questions at the beginning of a chapter and practical application challenges at the end of a chapter. All in all, I read the book cover to cover in about 3 days and I refer to it often in my leadership practice.

I loved this book. It is written in a very accessible way, each chapter is a complete concept--perfect for reading a digesting "on the run". And the layout--with water cooler questions, scalable examples, and power-ups to challenge you and hold you accountable all combine to create an inspiring read. Ed Leaders owe it to their students and staff to read this book!

I've been learning from Brad for years and he has played a huge role in my growth and learning as a principal. Renegade Leadership pulls out all the stops and provides step by step ways to invigorate learning in a school! A must read for anyone involved in growing the opportunities for learning and passion of students.

Something about this just felt so narcissistic. Like we get it, you're the best principal ever and have all the answers. It felt more like self promotion than informative, so I sadly got barely anything out of this one. Second grad course, done!

If you haven't started thinking about student-centered schools, makerspaces, social media, and innovative ways to integrate and model technology for staff this book will get you started. However, if these ideas are already swirling around in your brain, this book will probably add very little. I really like the badging component of the companion website

There were a few chapters that did not hold my interest as much...but the others more than made up for it. In particular, the chapter on personalized professional development was awesome! I also loved the chapter on activating renegade leadership...Dr. Gustafson gave concrete, simple shifts in practice to apply on a daily basis. The accompanying materials (within the book and online) only enhanced the reading experience.

Great read for administrators, teacher leaders, and professional developers!

If I could give this six stars I would have. This is a fantastic book for any type of leader; teachers, principals, assistant principals, & district leadership. I great guide on how to merge pedagogy and innovation to amplify student learning. Excellent, real-life examples from leaders across the nation. Based on the CODE of Renegade Leaders this is a must read for anyone having anything to do with education!

Good ideas, mixed with a pretty decent amount of filler. Could have been twice as good if it was half as long. I enjoy the author's podcast, and recommend it.
