The last book in the Wemmicksville series tells us everyone has a gift and they should use the gifts they have, or stay in their own lane. Another look to "your creator" theology, and a "self esteem" book, but ultimately disappointing as it stays a long way from the Christian theology of salvation through Christ by grace and then doing the words God had prepared for us. You can see that in the distance through a crowd of trees, but it is vague and you can only make it out if you know what you are looking for in the first place. That is ultimately what is disappointing about the whole series, it has this almost mythical view of the creator God, who wants to build up our self-esteem to the exclusion it seems of anything else. A pastor once said if your sermon does not end up with Jesus, it is not a Christian sermon, and these books don't end up anywhere near Jesus. Is there value in them? Sure to help people understand that they have a place in the world, and are valuable, and should give, but don't describe that as Christianity because it is not.
The little people" of Wemmicksville awaken one morning to find they have each been the recipient of a perfect gift chosen just for them.
We Follow Punchinello the builder, Hans the baker, Lucia the painter, Eli the woodcarver, and an extraordinary cast of fun characters strive to use their separate gifts to help a family in need. As they do so, they discover their meaning in life and the most helpful way to contribute to others. picturebook collection, Your Special Gift is very highly recommended to all young readers for its creative and unique message showcased with appropriately entertaining cartoon-style illustrations.
Max Lucado's book Your Special Gift is a wonderful book. It is about the Wemmicks, as is the book before it, You Are Special. Your Special Gift shows the reader how they have talents that are unique to them. Each of these gifts has been given to them, and they are to use these gifts to the best of their ability. By reading this book to children they can understand that they have gifts and talents that they can use for good. Your Special Gift is touching, I would recommend this book to anyone.
I cannot recommend this book enough! I have read this to school rooms on reading day and I have brought this with me to book events and read it to anyone who will hear it. A timeless message about inclusion and rebuking judgements by others. Should be read in every 1st and 2nd grade classes to start children off thinking of treating each other well.
Sixth in the Wemmicksville series. Eli leaves each Wemmick a special gift. They use them to help a family with major difficulties. Message of be who we are and use the gifts we have.
Este draguta dar mia placut mai mult "Esti pretios". Max lucando a scris niste carti foarte frumoase(eu sunt uneori mai critica la carti)chiar mia placut asa ca ii dau 4 din 5馃榿
Wonderful book about using the gifts that God gave us to help others. This is the first Wemmicks book I鈥檝e read and it鈥檚 like a parable with Eli, the woodcarver and maker, and all the village people he鈥檚 created. Eli has given each of the people gifts and when a family comes to the village seeking Eli, they are in much need. The people try doing things they aren鈥檛 good at and fail miserably and start fighting with each other. Then they go to Eli and he sets them straight. It鈥檚 a wonderful lesson for children and a good reminder for the adults that read this story. The illustrations are great!
鈥Your Special Gift鈥 is such a special story. It shares a powerful message in an entertaining and memorable way.
Punchinello receives a gift in his mailbox. A hammer! But who gave it to him? Lucia receives a paintbrush, Woody receives sewing supplies, and Splint receives a guitar, Hans gets a new spoon, and the mayor and his wife receive a bucket, brush, and book. All the Wemmicks wonder why they received these gifts and who sent them.
This special story shares the message that we are all given gifts, and we are to use them to make a difference. I love how Eli the woodcarver symbolizes God, and how he gives the Wemmicks special gifts meant just for them. What a significant and scriptural message to convey to young readers!
As with all the Wemmicks books, this is a keeper. This series provides a lovely collection of books for my grandchildren鈥檚 bookshelf.

#CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions are 100% mine.
One morning the Wemmicks wake up and discover that they have all recieved gifts, they don't know who they are from, but they are perfectly suited for each Wemmick.
Another sweet story book from Max Lucado that cuts straight to the heart and delivers a message anyone can understand.
While I was at Mardel, I went straight to the kids section and read as many Max Lucado children's books as I could before I had to leave. There's such a sweet and tender touch to his stories and this one makes a good point. We tend to ignore our gifts till they poke at us and make us realize they really are needed.
I like the parallel of this story, however, it is so tackily written. The illustrations are the best part of this book and that is why it has 3 stars instead of two. The book offers and encouraging message but just lacks quality in my opinion.
This book is a great book because it teaches kids not to worry about what their peers think. It teaches kids to believe they are special just the way they are created.
All about sharing your talents in Gods way for the most good. The punch line for some reasons sounded a little funnily-worded to me...but hey, so is the word "funnily."
