It’s never wise to talk to strangers…and that goes double when they’re dead. Unfortunately, seventeen-year-old Anna Morgan has no choice. Resting on a park bench, touching the turnstile at the Metro station—she never knows where she’ll encounter a ghost. These mental hitchhikers are the reason Anna has been tossed from one foster home and psychiatric institution to the next for most of her life.

When a chance touch leads her to pick up the insistent spirit of a girl who was brutally murdered, Anna is pulled headlong into a deadly conspiracy that extends to the highest levels of government. Facing the forces behind her new hitcher’s death will challenge the barriers, both good and bad, that Anna has erected over the years and shed light on her power’s origins. And when the covert organization seeking to recruit her crosses the line by kidnapping her friend, it will discover just how far Anna is willing to go to bring it down.

Anna Morgan has spent her life bouncing from home to home with some time out on the streets in between ever since she was abandoned as a toddler with a note claiming she was possessed. As Anna got older she has since learned she has an unusual ability to pick up ghostly hitchhikers. If she comes across a restless spirit and touches whatever object they are hanging onto she ends up with them inhabiting her body which can sometimes become a struggle for her to keep control herself.

When Anna picks up the spirit of Molly, a young girl that was brutally murdered, Molly does her best to convince Anna to contact her grandfather who had been a police man. Molly is tormented by the fact that her killer was involved in human trafficking and will most definitely be hurting other young women unless Molly can get Anna to help stop him.

The Delphi Effect is an extremely action packed adventure from start to finish with numerous paranormal elements along with some science fiction mixed into an intense thrill ride. This series is classified young adult but I would say with this one the characters and action seemed more on the mature side than a typical young adult read.

The story starts off with Anna's ability to speak with ghosts but as the book goes on many many other things are added into the mix. There's clairvoyance, psychic abilities, telekinesis and on and on. Along with moving from revenge for murder into a much bigger conspiracy involved. So much to keep one's attention this one certainly broke the typical young adult mold.

Overall, a great start to this series with a bit of a cliffhanger ending to bring the excitement up for the next in the series.

The Delphi Effect
The Delphi Trilogy, Book 1
By: Rysa Walker
Narrated by: Kate Rudd
This was such an awesome book. A girl can see and talk with ghosts which has caused problems all her life. Sounds like a normal story but it is not. This is a fresh take on the theme. She tries to help this very insistent ghost. From this, it leads to almost getting killed herself. Then getting kidnapped. It is a fast and furious story with lots of things going on at one time. A wonderful cast of characters and a twisted plot that leads you on many roads that cross. A fun ride and loved it so much. A touch of romance, lots of paranormal fun, and suspense. Ends nice but ready for the next book and I am eager for that.
It is an audible book and the narrator is so awesome, the voices and inflections are perfect! Made the book so exciting. Thanks!

I'm not going to rate this because I only made it about halfway through. It's not the book's fault, on the contrary, this seems like a good YA book about a girl who picks up ghost hitchhikers. The problem is the timing for me. I'm leaving on a week long cruise tomorrow morning and I've been too busy and distracted to really give this book a chance. Maybe I'll get back to it someday.

Don't let the cover of this book throw you off. It is not sci-fi but paranormal. Think "teens with powers" like X-Men.

See y'all later!

**Best young adult novel of 2016 so far**

is a new author for me, as I’ve never read any of the Chronos Files, even though I’ve heard good things. This book definitely makes me want to go and read those books, immediately.

Seventeen-year-old Anna has a special gift; she can talk to the dead. At the age of three, she was left in a food court with a note taped to her, that simply read her name, date of birth and ‘this child is possessed. Since then, she has grown up in various foster homes, friendless besides a younger adoptive brother named Deo.

Anna picks up Molly, a girl recently murdered, who pleads with her to help find her grandfather who will stop her murderer from killing again. This is where the story becomes something you really wouldn’t expect.

The writing is fantastic and Anna’s character is relatable. Her voice is spot on for a teenager, and I loved how she can be immediately abrasive to her ‘hitchers.

If you enjoyed books by , such as , and , you will enjoy . In particular, Taylor (I won’t go into too much depth about her part in the story - I don’t want to give anything away) has a gift called remote viewing. This reminded me of Alice in Twilight. She can view places where a person or item is located and draw them out.

This was an amazing book to complete my 2016 reading challenge.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Skyscape for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Nope. This one wasn't for me.

It was promoted as YA scifi but there was nothing resembling science in there. This is a pet peeve of mine -- don't call it SCIENCE fiction if it's FANTASY fiction. Give me some experimental science gone wrong or something to ground this, please!

And give me at least one intelligent or street savvy character to latch onto. Anna, our narrator, is kind of an idiot for someone who's supposed to have survived so much tragedy and animosity at a young age because of her supernatural abilities. She acquires hitchhikers in her head, like in the movie Ghost, and apparently most people go nuclear on this information, eager to assume she's possessed.

Once you get through the "poor misunderstood girl with hidden abilities" cliché, which Disney would have a field day with, the story isn't bad, but it's not all that interesting either. I couldn't bring myself to finish.

Anna is seventeen, veteran of many foster home situations (some bad, some okay, most indifferent) along with her younger adoptive brother Deo—the two having adopted each other, as they have little else to count on in their lives. Except for Dr. Kelsey, a therapist who not only listens, but believes what Anna tells her, and goes the extra mile to see to her safety, as well as Deo’s.

Oh, and Anna gets “hitched by ghosts.

The latest ghost, a murdered girl named Molly, is frantic for Anna to get a message to Molly’s grandfather, a cop, who unfortunately doesn’t believe Anna—thinks she’s a budding grifter. So he spreads her name through the cop community, not all of which is dedicated to the public good.

About the time that the grandfather becomes convinced, it becomes clear that Anna is being chased. At that point, an already immersive read hits one of my favorite tropes and I couldn’t put the book down.

It’s going to be a few months before the book comes out, so I don’t want to say any more about the plot.

Instead, here are some things I really appreciated about the story: the vivid, snarky voice, resonating with the sense of a teen who has been through a lot.

The loyalty between made families as well as born families—and no distinction made between them.

No love triangle forced onto the story, torqueing it out of shape. Instead, the romance develops naturally, with a believable trajectory, without Anna being all boy-angst all the time. But still very aware of growing feelings, in a realistic way, especially given her past.

This book reached, for me, that sweet spot between believable teenage emotional dynamics and the coolness of teens with powers in a dangerous situation wherein the kids can be major players.

I was so very glad to see that it is going to be a series. It goes on my instant-get list.

I don’t even remember requesting this book. I certainly didn’t remember what it was about. I knew it was Sci-Fi, mostly because it looks like it’s Sci-Fi, but for some reason that synopsis wouldn’t stay in my head. I would forget the premise moments after reading the blurb! I actually feel bad about it. What’s funny is that I’m pretty sure I requested this book because I thought the synopsis didn’t fit the cover. There’s nothing on the cover that says ‘this book is about a girl that can host spirits. I think it looks more like aliens, or space travel. That’s what it’s about, though. Anna is a medium, but she carries the spirits of the dead inside her until their unfinished business is complete.

Regardless of my initial impression of the cover, which I do think is pretty even if I think it’s misleading, I was really surprised by how good this book was. As a blogger we tend to request a lot of advance books that were just okay, or worse. There’s not a lot you can tell by a story from the synopsis, and it tends to bite you more frequently than you like. This wasn’t the case with The Delphi Effect. I actually thought that the plot of the story was interesting, with new perspectives on psychic ability, and the action was elevated through the whole book.

First, I can’t really review this book without mentioning how Anna occasionally irked me. In one section of the story I wanted to shake her. Everyone knew she was making terrible decisions. The other characters knew, her friends knew, and we knew as the reader. Yet, she follows the same path even after she’s shown it’s wrong. Even after she herself admits that she’s probably wrong! I can’t handle stupidly stubborn characters.

Regardless, and without going into too much detail, there was a wider range of characters than the synopsis provides. The story is about more than just Anna, even if she is the MC. I found the rest of the characters interesting and unique. I am especially curious about Deo and where the story is going to take him. (And Aaron, of course. Because who doesn’t like the love interest.)

The best part was that when I got to the end I actually said ‘Oh Sh*t! out loud. To myself. In my dark bedroom. At midnight. That’s one of the best compliments you can give a book. It means that I’ll be watching for updates on the sequel.

I’ve already started.

I'll admit I snagged this one mostly on the strength of the author's name.Ìý I've already read previous books by Rysa Walker, and very much enjoyed them.Ìý From the blurb it sounds potentially interesting, but not particularly original.Ìý But I trusted the author, and I'm glad I did.
Ìý
Anna Morgan is a seventeen year old who is jaded by the foster care system.Ìý She also has the ability to communicate with the dead.Ìý However in this story her communication is facilitated by a dead person attaching him/herself to Anna inside her mind.Ìý She calls them "hitchers". And typically it's one at a time.
Ìý
At the beginning of the story Anna is playing host to Molly, a young girl who had been murdered and wants Anna to communicate with Molly's grandfather, a retired police officer, in order to provide him with information that will hopefully catch her killer.
Ìý
But there's more going on here than a simple murder mystery.Ìý Molly's murderer was tied to a much larger scheme involving kidnapping and experiments. And Anna's contact with Molly's grandfather brings her, and her gift, to the attention of this nefarious group.
Ìý
Anna, along with her younger former foster brother Deo, are both in danger.Ìý Along the way they do have some allies, including Anna's therapist and Molly's grandfather.
Ìý
I'll admit the basic plot isn't terribly original, although I did really like how Anna's gift was handled and the way it worked.Ìý But it's much better and more engaging that it may sound.Ìý What takes what might have been well-worn ground in another's hands and turns it into an interesting story is Ms. Walker's skill in writing a well paced story with believable characters and likable protagonists. Ìý
Ìý
And while there are occasional hints of attraction between Anna and another character, it remains infrequent and very slow burn.Ìý There's no insta-love or teen angsty romance here.Ìý Something I very much appreciated.

Rysa Walker has done it again! The CHRONOS Files was an awesome time travel series, but she's managed to follow it up with the first book in a new series that promises to be even better. The Delphi Effect is so incredibly creative that I couldn't put it down. This is not your average book about people with "abilities." Mostly because the main character's ability is that ghost co-inhabit her body and talk to her. But trust me, it gets WAY cooler, I just don't want to spoil anything for you. You'll love the little details that Rysa has infused into this ghostly ability, as well as how she uses her talents. And the ending is pretty epic with plenty of room for more in the next sequel. I hope you all enjoy this book as much as I did! Highly recommend!

4 Stars!!
🌟🌟🌟🌟

Anna Morgan has no choice. Resting on a park bench, touching the turnstile at the Metro station—she never knows where she’ll encounter a ghost. She doesn't have a choice. The ghosts are the reason that Anna is thrown from one foster home to the next and in and out of psych wards.

When a touch of the hand leads her to pick up the ghost of a girl who was murdered- things start to get real serious for Anna. Shes thrown into a government conspiracy, which causes Anna to throw up every wall she has ever built around her mind. But they really cross the line when they kidnap her friend, causing her to be pushed to the limits.

This was a really cool YA book!! It reminded me of the show The Gifted- and X-Men. It has a paranormal vibe to it more than anything.

I felt immediately drawn to Anna and really enjoyed being in her head. Although- I could not imagine having to live with her ability, it was neat to read it. The book starts out with this girl Molly getting in her head. She was murdered and wants Anna to help her solve it before others can get hurt or killed.

What starts out as a murder mystery, quickly morphs into a paranormal thriller. I loved that aspect of it. There were more characters than the synopsis provides. The story is about more than just Anna. I really enjoyed a few of the side characters. There is a love interest in this installment and I am totally rooting for my ship to sail!!

I cant wait to see what happen in the next couple books!

I beta read this book a few months ago. Really great premise! Full review to come after I read the final copy.

9/28/16 Update: I finished the ARC tonight so my review is below.

I am a huge Rysa Walker fan and I was extremely excited when I learned she was working on a brand new sci-fi paranormal series. I loved her Chronos Files books, novellas, and short stories and have read them all at least twice!

So when I picked up The Delphi Effect, for me, the bar was set pretty high because of Timebound and I wasn't sure how Rysa would meet my expectations. Well, Rysa exceeded those for sure! When I met Anna, a 17 year old teenager who's had a rough life having grown up in the foster system after her mother dumped her at 3 years old for being possessed, I knew I was hooked. Anna has a gift, or a curse, of picking up ghost hitchhikers. When we meet Anna, we also meet Molly, a ghost who has hitchhiked into Anna's head.

This storyline is brilliant! It was The Sixth Sense meets Firestarter meets the X-Men. I loved all of those stories, so TDE was perfect for me!

Rysa's amazing gift is to give us strong yet flawed characters who I can't help but fall in love with. Anna, Molly, Deo, Kelsey, Aaron, Taylor, etc.,...

I don't want to give away any spoilers, but trust me when I say that the twists and turns were deliciously breathtaking! I will definately be standing in line to get my grabby hands on book 2 in this series!

Thank you so much to Skyscape and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Full on my blog!

A lot better than I expected. It kinda reminded me of The Host by Stephanie Meyer, but 100 times better, with way more detail and uniqueness. I absolutely loved this book and thought it was great. The idea of having people in your head makes for an interesting story and I loved the way the author presented in the book.

The Delphi Effect is an extremely action packed adventure from start to finish with many paranormal elements along with some science fiction mixed into an intense thrill ride. This was such a good start to a series, especially with the cliffhanger ending!

Ahhhhh.I wish that the next books in the trilogy were out already! I neeeeeed to know what happens next. I highly recommend it!

I had no idea what this book was about when I started reading it, but I loved Rysa Walker's Chronos Files, so I was pretty sure I would like this one also.

I was totally wrong -- I didn't like this story, I LOVED it.

And I kind of don't want to give you a synopsis of the story either, so that you can grab it and be surprised the way I was.

All I can say is that this book was so, so, so, so good.
It was exciting, creative, mysterious, adventurous, & thrilling.
Do I have your attention?

I will tell you this much -- it's told in first person from our protagonist's POV.
1st person is best used (IMO) when you want to expose the story to the reader at the same time the protagonist is seeing what's happening, for example, when there is a mystery to be solved. Personally, this is my least favorite point of view.

Except when it's done as well as it is in this story.
The only reason I couldn't finish this story in a single day is because I had to work. Sleep was less of an issue.

So if you like YA Paranormal novels, definitely read this one.

I absolutely loved this book! Anna Morgan is a great character, and her ability is pretty unique and interesting. Not so much in that she can talk to ghosts, but the specifics of her ability is something I hadn't heard of before. This book also has plenty of suspense and mystery, something I always love in my reads! Not to mention government conspiracies, secret agencies, paranormal activity, twists and turns, and a little romance sprinkled in. Can't wait for the next in the series!

Manchmal schleicht sich ein Buch ganz still und heimlich um UND HAUT EINEN VOLL UND GANZ VOM HOCKER!!!
Wow, riesen Wow .

I'm not going to rate this because I tripped up over a personal preference. The first 60% was outstanding and I enjoyed it greatly. The characters, the plot, the interpersonal dynamics were all right up my alley. I particularly liked Anna and her struggle to deal with her ghost hitchhikers. This felt so well-fleshed-out that I engaged almost immediately and couldn't wait to learn more. And her friendship with Deo was outstanding with lots of juicy layers to explore. I particularly liked that Anna had a couple of reasonably reliable adults in her corner who stuck by her as much as they possibly could.

So I was immersed and eating it up with a spoon; and then tripped over a change in tone that ground me to a complete halt. I used to like YA dystopias, but for the last decade or so (before the current craze, really) I haven't been able to enjoy them pretty much at all. And while this story isn't so much a universal dystopia, by the 80% mark it had devolved into a personal one—complete with fascist government, out-of-control institutions, and exploitation of children and the helpless. By the time

So it's a very engaging book. I imagine sticking through the tough bit is rewarding. But I'm completely uninterested in the fight against all odds that is to come. I had geared up for a dealing-with-life story for someone with an interesting ability that has well thought-out drawbacks. I felt a bit ambushed, and ultimately disappointed, to find myself in an overwhelmed-band-of-misfits-fighting-tyranny story. It's a good story, well told, with fantastic characters and great pacing and plot. But not one I can enjoy.

I was given a preview copy of this book because I'm a friend of the author as well as a big fan of her work. I applaud her venturing outside her comfort zone since the Chronos Files and believe me, you don't need to fear making the journey with her. Rysa is an accomplished author and this is why. Tension. She really knows how to grip you with characters and situations that not only grab you but pull you along for the ride. Enjoy the brief moments of rest that the characters get because that's all you get.

This is the story of Anna Morgan, a teenage girl without a true home who doesn't fit into society because she's part Mutant, part X-files, and part Sixth Sense. I love how Rysa creates believable mythologies based on facts and urban legends and government documents. In this version of our world (set in the not-distant future), the bad guy are bad and scary and very powerful because they also have abilities like hers.

The book ended making me crave even more and with a plot twist I just didn't see coming.

I read and loved the Chronos Files by Rysa Walker and so I was so excited to get a chance to read and review the beginning of her next trilogy. While this trilogy is not about time travel (darn!), it is about another subject that I love, paranormal gifts. I call them gifts because I would not mind having them. However, I guess it depends on the gift...

This trilogy starts out just as good as Walker's other one. One, she is able to make such loveable main characters. 17-year old Anna was left in a mall food court at the age of three with a letter that said "This child is possessed." Shuffled from foster home to foster, no one wanted to keep her because ghosts had a habit of taking over her body and speaking to their loved ones. As Anna grew (friendless except for the 3-year younger Deo) she learned how to keep the ghosts from taking over her body completely, but she could not keep them from moving in with her and sharing her body for awhile.

Second, Walker winds and winds a complex plot making her books interesting to both YAs and adults. Just when things seem relatively settled with Anna and Deo in a group home, Molly moves in Anna's body and convinces her to find her grandfather because she was murdered and other girls will be too if Anna does not help. This is when Anna and Deo find themselves being chased and targets of shooters. They also find out that by following where this mystery leads, they may not only find the answer to what happened to Molly, but also how Anna became how she is.

NetGalley and the Publisher provided me this book and that did not affect this review.

**An ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

3.5 stars.

This book definitely did a lot of things right. I liked all the interpersonal relationships, friendships, sibling-like bonds, and the light romance. And honestly, why this book worked was because the romance was there but it was kept to a blessed and much needed minimum. The driving force behind so many of Anna's actions are her foster brother. And we had a lot going on: taking down a rapist/trafficker and delving into the Delphi Project and the lives it affected. I really appreciated so so much that this was character and plot driven, and NOT romance. I have seen far too many books ruin themselves that way.

Although different enough not to make me question TOO hard, this is very similar to Orphan Black. Just less adult and a bit more paranormal, but I mean, there are a lot of parallels to make. I think the thing that solidified the comparison was Anna and Deo, foster siblings with complete and utter loyalty and love for one another. Also, Deo reminded me strongly of a younger Felix, right down to being gay or least bi-sexual. But much like Felix, he is given an ACTUAL character outside token gay character and I loved his relationship with Anna.

Interested to see where this goes, especially with that "twist" I saw coming.

WOW!

The Delphi Effect was so freaking good and intense! I feel like my mind was all over the place trying to keep track of everything happening. I will forever ship Anna and Aaron together. Once they become a couple I'm going to call them my A team. The ending kind of broke me and I think Daniel deserved way better than that.

This book just hits you with the pow pow all throughout the book. There's some psychic stuff going on which leads to Anna getting in a shit ton of trouble. Even though I don't believe in ghosts and mediums this book was still so freaking addictive to read. Once I got hooked there was no stopping until the book was over. Or I was dead. Either one was acceptable in my eyes.

Overall, I loved this book. I wanted more - especially a way different ending - but hey, book two will be my next victim.. next month!

I received an Advanced Reader's Copy from the publisher via NetGalley in the exchange for my honest review. This has not influenced my opinion in any way.

It suffices to say that for a book to still manage to be amazing even with prior high expectations, that book is seriously a great one.

And The Delphi Effect did not disappoint.

Alright, so. For those skeptical readers thinking that the synopsis sounds awfully familiar, let me just nip this in the bud: it is familiar. No lie. But Rysa Walker's take on it made this book such a breath of fresh air.

So, what's it about? Basically, Anna Morgan can talk to dead people, and vice versa. They can essentially share one body, and while that seems a bit weird, it felt completely natural thanks to the way Anna's power is described. The descriptions felt very logical, and one of my favorite characteristics ever in fantasy is a logical magic system.

Of course, the explanations for our protagonist's ability, among other things, would not have been pulled off if not for the marvelously fluid writing. Seriously, this kind of writing is one of my favorites. It's a bit hard to describe. It feels..natural. It flows. It describes and has a sense of humor in a way that's not..forced.
Alright, think Maggie Stiefvater. Yes, Rysa Walker's writing style is like Stiefvater's in the sense that both fully engage the reader into the story, so that one would momentarily forget that they're reading words on paper. Both styles also weave hilarious side comments that make the reader want to reread them out loud.
Walker's writing style is one of the best I've ever come across.

Which brings me to: The characters. Oh, the characters. 3D. Relatable. Interesting. I could read about them all day.

Oh, and how could I forget to talk about the pacing and plot? Fast-paced. Very fast-paced. It's one of those books that if you accidentally flip two pages instead of one, you'd get completely lost because every page means something, and nothing's redundant. Seriously. It's that fast paced. It's simply amazing. It really is.

So, just go read it. Really. It's a mystery/thriller sort of book that will really take you by surprise.

Hands down, one of the best books I've ever read.

4.5 stars for The Delphi Effect!!!

I must have to say, this story is MUCH BETTER than I thought at first.

It's filled with the elements of si-fi, mystery, a little bit action, also having some paranormal power. I really enjoy with this book. Not only it has some brand new idea about paranormal story, but also brings me lots of excitement and fun.

Anna Morgan is a teenage girl who has paranormal power of hearing some dead people whispering in her head. Sometimes there will some spirits stuck in her mind, just like Molly who was murdered by some cruel bad guy. As Anna knows more about the murder, she finds out she is getting close to the danger. And her adventure has begun!

[Writing]
This is my first time to read Rysa's work.
I'm so surprise that her writing just make the story vivid. And she will add some humorous dialogues to make the plots be not that serious. Besides, I really like the way she mentions other famous books, movies or even TV series in the talk, letting me feel that I'm also standing there beside Anna and others. Won't feel any distance between me and the story. That's maybe why it's easy to get in to the story.

"Girl, you look like a poster for that Carrie movie."

This is one of my favorite quote from the book. LOL

[Characters]
Most of them are cute.
I won't say that I'm crush on Aaron, and he is also my type.

Actually, there are more things I can review for The Delphi Effect.
I just need some time to update more details on it. :P

To sum up, I really HAVE to get the next book RIGHT NOW!!!

You know that stories where a person gets inhabited by a spirit so that said spirit can do that one last important task? This starts off like that. Then it gets weird. Like X-Files conspiracy theory/government cover up weird. It's a good thing.

Anna has the ability to communicate with the dead. And for her whole life she hasn't had much choice in the matter. Her most recent hitcher died badly; and in an attempt to say goodbye Anna upsets some people with some very unique abilities.

For myself, I liked this better than "The Chonos Files". And it pays to pay attention, lest you miss some important tidbit, or one of the pop culture references that you will find sprinkled around. I had to read chapters 1 and 2 twice because someone was doing the macarana in the living room and I couldn't concentrate (there was a good reason for it though...).

Hot damn was this ever good! It was nothing what I expected and yet somehow everything I wanted to read in a book.

The concept, while revolving around gifted kids and the government suppressing/trying to control them, felt fresh and fun. The psychic, mental abilities highlighted here are, likewise, fresh and fun. Particularly Anna's. Lost souls hitch a ride in her head, asking that she help them do that one thing that is preventing them from leaving. And when they do, she retains their memories and their skills. It's such a cool idea!

Overall, the suspense and intrigue runs high, the cast of characters are great, and the world-building solid. Can't wait to dive into book 2!

"The Delphi Effect" is a well-written sci-fi, paranormal mystery. Anna is a 17-year-old with the unusual skill of picking up the souls of the deceased. They share her brain in a way and can take control of her body, so she builds mental walls in her brain to keep them from taking over and to prevent losing her sanity. Once they move on/leave, she is left with all of their memories, including of life occurrences, of facts and of physical skills (e.g. driving, riding a bike, ice skating). She has been in the system of foster homes since she was abandoned at the age of 3 with a sign saying her name, DOB and that she was possessed. Her family now is her foster brother Deo and her long-term therapist, Kelsey.

The book begins when she tries to contact the grandfather, Porter, of a persistent soul, Molly, to help solve her murder. Molly is so insistent because the man who killed her has and will kill others. As the story grows, we learn that Molly had gotten mixed up with a man who was involved in much bigger and more dangerous things. This leads us to the Delphi Project, where they collect and enhance the psychic abilities of young people- some are human trafficking victims and some are children who had been placed in psychiatric institutions- where they are treated as though they are dispensable.

The book is really engaging- I had a hard time putting it down. The plot is very intricate and you need a lot of focus while reading- it really sucks you in! It moves very quickly at the beginning and end, but there was a place in the middle where I felt that it was a little slow. However, this time was needed to really build up the danger, and also to create a romantic relationship between Anna and Aaron (the brother-like figure who Molly had a crush on). Their relationship was just budding and stayed this way during the book, but they had more than enough else going on to keep me engaged and enjoying it!

This has really clear potential to be a great series and TV show- I can easily see it continuing and being just as fantastically written with Anna and her hitchers... especially with all the things we learn later in the story. I will definitely be on the look-out for the sequels!

Please note that I received this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for my honest review.

Anna Morgan's got voices in her head, but they're not a sign of mental illness, they're ghosts who take up residence. Anna doesn't seem to have a choice about picking up these hitchhikers, and they're darned persistent, expecting her to give last messages to their loved ones or finish business they didn't complete.

Anna doesn't love her special skill, but she's used to it, and she's learned how to achieve what she needs to to help her hitchhikers pass on. She thought she had, anyway, until a hitchhiker with a particularly gruesome death gets Anna wrapped up with other kids with super powers and a secret government operation.

Not simply a fast-paced, high stakes thriller, The Delphi Effect has strong, but sympathetic characters, a mystery larger than the first book, a huge helping of personal loyalty, and a sprinkle of romance -- all the things that make for a satisfying read. These books are not for the violence adverse, but they're a great read for anyone who likes an engaging read. I'm looking forward to books two and three in the series!

I read an electronic advance reader copy of The Delphi Effect courtesy of NetGalley and the author in exchange for an honest review.

I was gifted an ebook via Netgalley.
I read part of this and listened to part of it on audiobook. From the switch from my old Kindle to the new one, this Netgalley book got lost in the mix, so I borrowed via Kindle Unlimited. The audio narrator was wonderful and I just got so sucked into this book that I couldn't read/listen fast enough.

The Delphi Effect follows an orphan named Anna who has the ability to pick up spirits with unfinished business. Her newest spirit is Molly, who wants to help her Pa find her killer. Along the way, Anna realizes that this goes much further than a simple homicide.

Like I said, I got sucked in. This is such a well-written novel. The premise is super interesting and I love how Anna's paranormal ability was done. The intricacies of it are just so fascinating. I cannot wait to read or listen to the second book in preparation for the final book to be released this fall.

DNF @74%

This book couldn't hold my interest. In some parts the writing was great and wonderful and other times it felt like "and then this happened and then this happened and then...". I also think the use of the cliché of coming from a hard life background made me roll my eyes every time it was brought up. I feel like most YA books the main character and her/his cohort come from a shitty life. It was an interesting concept but sadly it didn't hold my attention. I DNFed pretty far into the book but I couldn't push myself to read it anymore. Maybe another time...

Reread August 12, 2018. So much fun to binge read the entire series!

Original review: 4-4.5 stars. I loved The Chronos Files series so I was so excited to read The Delphi Effect and it was AMAZING. Teenager with powers, covert organization, a dash of romance, and fantastic secondary characters, the book was non-stop action. I mean, seriously, I could not put it down. It was two in the morning and I needed to go to sleep but I just had to keep reading. Rysa Walker is definitely an auto-buy author for me. My only complaint is that I wanted a bit more romance, but that's just me. And that ending...what? Need. Next. Book. Now.
