The conclusion of Cycle 2 is eventually reached.

The prologue is yet another retelling of Alison’s last night and the dull happenings in the barn. The only addition is that we learn that both Hanna and Emily, whilst “hypnotised by Alison, had visions of her trapped at the bottom of a well. Which I suppose is just another sign of the innate psychic abilities that the girls possess, despite being the 4 least spiritual people I have ever had the misfortune to read about. This might seem odd, but see the reams of stupid dreams in previous volumes for evidence that Shepard wouldn’t hold back from supernatural phenomenon, however stupid.

Anyhow, back to the adventures of a bunch of girls who can’t eat a waffle for breakfast without telling you what brand it is. Our four leading ladies are now awaiting the trial of Billy Ford, the second person to be accused of Alison’s murder. Billy also apparently killed Jenna right at the end of the last book for reasons which were less than clear, and it now emerges that he is for good measure being accused of killing the missing Ian (previously blamed for Alison’s murder). Which would at least explain where Ian has been, even if it makes no sense whatsoever on any other level.

Spencer is absolutely convinced of Billy’s guilt for the same reason she was absolutely convinced of her mother’s guilt, or her sister’s, or Ian’s, or Jenna’s, or Jason’s, or Officer Wilden’s, or indeed her own that reason being her massive gullibility and limited mental capacity. This same problem has caused her to self-pityingly lament the break-up of her parents marriage, since it will inevitably lead to dysfunction and neglect., as of course do all divorces. Although since spoilt Spencer wouldn’t know neglect if it walked up and stole her designer handbag out of her manicured hand, I’m not sure what she’s basing her personal concerns on. Aria is mainly concerned with going to a valentine dance and her disgust at how tacky Jenna’s shrine is, although she does very briefly touch on the “niggling inconsistencies in the latest murder/blackmail story, such as it not making any sense whatsoever, before instantly moving on. Hanna is so made up to be going out with sexist pervert Mike (top qualities according to her: his meanness and the fact that he is not a prude) that she has no time to think about anything else. Then some spectacularly childish bullying occurs and she and Mike are suddenly not cool anymore, which is massively traumatic for them. Although not quite as interesting as the murders, which we could be hearing about. Emily is doing nothing, which is at least preferable to the stupid Amish thing from the last book. And the local press have obtained large amounts of what is clearly restricted evidence and are busily prejudicing any potential jury members by broadcasting it all ad nauseum.

Suddenly Alison’s mother calls a press conference, in which to dispense clues and incriminate people in order to provide a plot for this book. Here she reveals possibly the stupidest plot twist yet, rivalling even the untouched-child- mental-institute-inside-a-hotel storyline: Alison apparently had a secret twin sister!. An identical twin called Courtney, whom nobody has mentioned or seen until now, when she is being revealed simultaneously to the neighbourhood, her long-lost relatives and the world press. On reading this I managed to restrain myself from groaning and banging my head on the table, but only just. It’s very lucky I’m reading this as an e-book, because any physical copy would have been thrown across the room or torn asunder at this point.

How to continue after this cataclysmic horror of a storyline? What is left to be said? Surely once a text has lost any semblance of sense, reason or narrative integrity it has rendered itself outside of literary rules and above criticism? However none of the other characters seem to have taken this turn of events as badly as I have, and proceed to many chapters worth of vaguely wondering if Courtney is really Alison and slight attempts to fit together the many abstract plot fragments into a cohesive whole; attempts which are tragically doomed to failure. When this becomes too much of a strain they drink herbal tea and get their dogs groomed instead. Courtney starts at school and seamlessly replaces her long-dead twin sister, which nobody thinks is a bit weird. Hanna continues to kick the people closest to her when they’re down in her endless quest to bully her way to popularity. Emily suddenly remembers that whole lesbian thing, now that Alison #2 is around. We are reminded repeatedly to suspect Melissa. Aria becomes jealous of Courtney’s flirting with Noel, her latest boyfriend. Hanna invites her worst enemies to an exclusive fashion show to prove how cool she is, which is exactly the kind of stupid shit she’s always doing. Meanwhile Billy Ford suddenly has alibis for the time of both murders, slightly running what the Rosewood police previously thought of as an “airtight case.

Impressively things take an even more ridiculous turn when Courtney tells Emily that she is Alison after all, but there was really a twin called Courtney, and their parents managed to mix the two of them up on the weekend of the murder and send Alison back to Courtney’s mental institute by mistake when Courtney was murdered in Alison’s place. How exactly the DiLaurentises were able to commit their pre-teen daughter to a long-term mental institution and then mix her up with the sister she barely knew and therefore couldn’t possibly have adequately impersonated is not explained. Also I am forced to presume that Courtney visited exactly the same cosmeticians and hair stylists as her sister even whilst incarcerated, in order that there’s any possibility of this making any type of sense for even a second. Despite the fact that Courtney actually tells Emily that Real Courtney (not her, the other one) was a monomaniac who used to impersonate Alison and steal facts from her diary in order to impersonate her Emily is immediately convinced by the whole story, no questions asked.

Next Courtney convinces Spencer that she is Alison. Spencer briefly questions the idea that the body in the garden was actually Courtney since it was wearing Alison’s ring (a matter not brought up in the last book when we were supposed to believe that the body was Leah the random Amish girl who everybody has forgotten about ) but 3 paragraphs later is welcoming Alison home. Then Hanna is told and instantly accepts the whole thing, although admittedly she is distracted due to having once again made a tit of herself at some tedious upper-crust social function. Finally Aria meets Courtney leaning on the creepy well from the prologue and grinning like a Halloween pumpkin in the light of the moon, and is fed the whole “I’m Alison bit. Either because of the horror-film setting or the fact that she randomly finds some photos of the girls on the night of the murder buried next to the well, she is ever-so-slightly less than 100% convinced.

After the four separate scenes of each individual girl being told the same story we move on to a period of even less action, if that is possible. As usual the text is at least 50% reused material from previous books. Little new actually occurs. Melissa is insistently placed in supposedly incriminating situations, being sighted at least once per chapter publicly arguing with one of the other suspects, loitering at a dark corner or deviously running in the night-time, clearly the crazed murderer’s hobby of choice. In light of this incessant pointing toward her supposed guilt I can only assume that she is completely innocent. Spencer becomes convinced that the mysterious face at the window in the latest murder photo-clue to suddenly turn up is definitely her sister (the old one, not either of the new living-dead twin sisters). However since Spencer suffers from a rare form of prosopagnosia where all faces in life and in her memory appear to her to be the face of whoever creates the best plot twist I’m not over-convinced by her panic. Meanwhile Hanna repeatedly fails to notice that Courtney doesn’t know a lot of things which she should know if she’s really Alison and Project Runway gets 2 mentions for no particular reason, unless Shepard is getting paid to advertise it. Also, there is a spate of a new mannerism whereby people slap their sides whilst talking. I’m not sure what emotion it’s supposed to convey but it’s obviously an important one, since it’s so suddenly widespread.

Soon Spencer’s stupid ideas about Melissa have spread to all the other girls except Aria, and even though all of their other unfounded allegations throughout the series turned out to ridiculous and were immediately disproved they jump straight onto the “Melissa killed Alison/Courtney/whoever bandwagon, mainly on the basis of surmises and incidents that prove nothing, are barely connected to the murder and make little sense. Directly after this they find another incriminating photo open and ready for them on Melissa’s computer. Technically it’s actually an old incriminating photo from a previous volume, back in the days of A#1, but a new and convoluted story about its origins and meaning is swiftly tacked on top of the old details, with which it fails to line up in any way. They also find an appointment card from Courtney’s mental institute and decide that Melissa has most likely checked herself in to get treatment for her Stupid Fictional Insanity and will hopefully be gone for 20 years, that being how mental institutions work. Then everyone loses interest in the murder/commitment/disappearance stuff and starts getting ready for a party instead.

Once they are at the party scene that occurs 2/3 of the way through every book everyone continues with their usual behaviour. Hanna bullies people and dances like a cheap stripper. Emily moons after Courtney. Spencer glories is having a dull boyfriend and being popular and reflects how perfect her life is, without mention of her sister who may be a murderer in the midst of a mental breakdown (Melissa not CourtAli, although actually the description would fit any of the 2 to 3 girls. It’s that type of family. Then suddenly Courtney steals Aria’s perfect boyfriend (not the same as Spencer’s perfect boyfriend. This one has dark hair. That’s the only difference, so far as I am aware) and Aria responds by immediately dumping him and becoming Alison’s best friend again. Five minutes later (literally) the 5 girls are off on a trip to Courtney’s isolated holiday home in the mountains, which can only end well.

They arrive at the remote house to find it still has 5 rocking-chairs sat out on the porch from when they last visited, time having been frozen in Rosewood and its environs for the last 4 years. Once there all the girls but Courtney don bikinis and strut around without embarrassment just like no teenage girl has ever done. Courtney outlines her plan to erase the memory of their last sleepover (when she/Alison disappeared) by completely recreating it, which doesn’t seem like the most logical plan. It’s also not a particularly appealing plot-line, since I’ve already had to plough through innumerable retellings of the original, extremely dull sleepover. However since none of the girls have minds of their own they readily agree, rushing upstairs to be hypnotised and on the way noting without concern the big, open ditch in the garden.

The hypnotic efforts of a non-professional deluded airhead naturally immediately lead Spencer to have a vivid hallucinated flashback experience of the original murder night sleepover, meaning we have to hear about it yet again. This time Spencer spontaneously recalls that the person at the window was one of the twins, and that “Alison had in fact been wearing her special ID ring that night, but it said ‘C and not ‘A, which means…all sorts of stupid and silly stuff. In fairness nothing Spencer has ‘remembered previously has turned out to be true, so it’s hard to give this whole thing too much weight. To wrap things up past-vision dream CourtAli suddenly turns into Alighost and shouts yelling ominous and unclear rubbish, none of which matters at all, in a desperate attempt to distract from how stupid and convoluted the plot has become. It doesn’t work.

Spencer wakes to find that, in astoundingly predictable style, Courtney has disappeared. This is actually about the 4th time this book she has vanished, but this time she stays missing more than the 5 minutes necessary for a chapter cliff-hanger. In her place the girls find a note explaining that Courtney is actually Alison, but the Alison they used to know was actually Courtney, who was killed by real Alison in the guide of Courtney before she was shipped off to a mental institute in Courtney’s place. Or something. Not sure who’s been haunting everyone, since that doesn’t make sense whichever way you go with it. However before anyone has any time to object CourtAli sets the building on fire in a desperate attempt to draw matters to a close. At exactly the same time the girls discover Melissa hidden in a cupboard underneath Ian’s rotting body, in a shockingly poor attempt to simultaneously explain both all of Melissa’s red-herring behaviour and where exactly Ian has been all this time. It does neither. Finally matters reach a frenzied pitch of farcical ludicrousness when everybody escapes via a tiny secret passage CourtAli happens to have in her bedroom, which must have slipped her mind. Despite this planning she also somehow manages to die in the fire, even though she set it herself and had access to all the exits in the house. I’m not sure how, so don’t ask.

Everyone sits outside while the fire burns out, still in their bikinis for all I know, not calling the fire brigade, escaping or talking to each other. Eventually, some hours later, they suddenly begin to attempt to explain away all the plot-holes to each other in the most pathetically artificial conversation I have ever read. They fail. They also realise that they have somehow managed to lose the note explaining everything. Which was pretty stupid.

We move on to 5 months later. Despite the time gap no one has figured out, among other things, why Alison took the incriminating photos placing her at the murder scene, why she didn’t dispose of them, how she managed to get access to Billy Ford’s laptop to plant fake evidence, or what the hell the purpose of any of her actions was. The girls have all been much too busy swanning about enjoying being celebrities to worry about any of that. Also a lot of issues I don’t care about are wrapped up: Hanna’s mother suddenly decides she loves her again and returns from Hong Kong to throw out Hanna’s evil father, stepmother-to-be and step-sister-to-be, leaving Hanna as Queen Bee just as she wants. Hanna has an epiphany, realising that it doesn’t matter all that much if she is the most popular girl at school or just in the top ten, since either way she is still gorgeous, rich and a horrid, spoilt little attention-whore, or a she puts it “fܱdzܲ.Which is a nice little moral message for all the readers. She also makes up with her pervert boyfriend Mike on the proviso that she give him several stripteases, which is just lovely. Aria’s problems with her mother and her mother’s stalker boyfriend, which have vaguely dragged on for 4 books, are resolved in a sentence and dismissed. She also forgives her perfect boyfriend for the whole cheating thing and gets a new baby sister, which she is pleased about even though the newborn is criticised for her poor dress-sense, as some of her knitwear isn’t entirely on-trend. Spencer and her sister are now friends, and they and their mother unhesitatingly forgive their father for that little incident with the 15-year affair leading to an entire secret family who lived next door, some members of which blackmailed, harassed, kidnapped, drugged and tried to murder both his official children, as well as killing the boy both of them were sexually involved with. After all, these things happen. Finally Emily isn’t doing anything at all since she has no personality or life. The only remaining issue (apart from the thousands of unanswered questions which are being ignored) is what happened to Alison, since they never found her body in the fire. Is she still alive? Or is Courtney still alive? Or are both of them still alive? Or is their extra-evil triplet still alive, and set to return to Rosewood and wreak vengeance for some imaginary slight? Frankly I couldn’t care less. This series should have been one book at best, and yet there are still 4 more to come even though Shepard herself promised that this was the last. God only knows what extra layers of nonsense she’ll have to add to stretch this junk that far.

Most Offensively Named Fashion Item
A “Foley + Corinna hobo
10-second research on Google tells me that “Foley + Corinna is some type of bland high-fashion clothing brand. Apparently it’s not the only brand to see nothing inappropriate in naming a $500 bag after homeless people. This is why I hate fashion.

Most Worrying Physical Description

[Emily] forced her flat, flipper-like swimmer’s feet into a pair of red Mary Janes.

I had no idea that excessive swimming could cause genetic mutation in an amphibious direction. Possibly Emily should cut down on the aquatics? Although it’s unlikely this will happen, since the only two things approximating character traits with which she is currently endowed are “sometime-lesbian and “swimmer. So if she gives up swimming then the next time she forgets about her lesbianism she will instantly become a completely blank space with strawberry blonde hair.

Most Ridiculous Cod Psychology
“the best way to get over a terrible memory is to reenact it.

Most Over-Generous Description of the Plot
“They’d missed so many clues. Ali had set a brilliant trap…and they’d walked right into it.

I think brilliant is ever-so-slightly overstating the case.

Most Ignorant Misunderstanding of European Music
“Aria’s iPod, probably full of weird Scandinavian yodeling bands

Yes, because that’s all they listen to Iceland.
Least Understanding of Forensics Shown By a Professional
“I was there moments after the house exploded, he said. “It’s very possible Alison’s body incinerated instantly.

Instantly? That’s quite a fire.

This book makes the least sense yet of the series, which is remarkable when you consider the competition. The casual ease with which it touches on stolen identity, murder accusations and mental illness is breath-taking in its awfulness. The central plot is so absurd as to be unreadable unless as a failed joke an evil twin hidden in a mental institution at the whim of her parents even though her character is completely indistinguishable from her non-incarcerated sibling? Said evil twin suddenly being released at a ridiculously inappropriate time and thrown without guidance or guardianship into her dead sibling’s life and a badly-written and oddly inconsistent media spotlight? Police incompetence and journalistic immorality of staggering proportions which is never noticed by the community of privileged legal experts and marketing geniuses? An entire town who questions none of this because they’re too busy going to the mall and attending dances? Please god the next cycle concludes with the revelation that the whole thing has been merely the fever-dream of an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Wanted by Sara Shepard
Book 8 in the Pretty Little Liars series

This is the PLL book I've been waiting for, this is the five star instalment I went through 8 books to get to, and boy, was it worth the wait!

Funny story, so, after reading Ugly Love, I decided to pick this one up and read a couple pages... next thing I knew I was finished...

This book was just incredible, it had everything you could want in a Sara Shepard book, and more.
The creepy level was so high though, it actually took me a while to get to sleep, but if you've read this book, you couldn't blame me, because you literally fall into this world.

Wanted had much of the same feel as the PLL prequel novel Ali's Pretty Little Lies, as well as normal PLL book elements, which made for the perfect blend of awesomeness.

This 8th book in the series was supposed to be the last, then more got added I'm not complaining, that's why we got so many answers, and it was simply just intense and thrilling the whole entire length of the book.

This is by far my fav PLL book so far, and I cannot wait to read the rest!

Order of PLL books from fav to least fav (so far)
1. Wanted
2. Wicked
3. Killer
4. Unbelievable
5. Pretty Little Liars
6. Flawless
7. Heartless
8. Perfect

Wanted (Pretty Little Liars #8), Sara Shepard

Aria, Hanna, Emily and Spencer are shocked to learn of the existence of Alison's twin sister, Courtney, when she's introduced at a press conference. Courtney had spent her life in institutions due to "health issues" and her existence was kept secret by her family. It is revealed that Jason was not a patient at the Radley but instead he was visiting Courtney. She was finally released and went home to Rosewood, where she attempts to resume her sister's life and begins tentative friendships with Ali's old friends. She later reveals that she's actually Ali, the real Courtney had pretended to be her on the night of Ali's disappearance, and she was the one who was killed. When she had tried to tell her family who she was, they didn't believe her because Courtney was notorious for pretending to be Ali, and sent her back to the institution in Courtney's place. The girls are thrilled that Ali is back, and jump at the chance to go with her to the family's house in the Poconos after a school dance.

On the way there, Spencer gets a frantic call from her mother telling her that Melissa has disappeared. Spencer had begun to believe that her sister was the one who killed Ali and that she may be after the rest of them, but once they arrive at the house it's revealed that Ali is the killer. They discover that the girl they were friends with years ago was actually Courtney, and the real Ali was stuck in an institution. She had killed Courtney for ruining her life, attempted to kill the girls in the forest fire, tried to have them arrested, and is now going to kill them by setting the house on fire.

They're able to escape after stumbling onto Ian's body hidden in a closet and releasing a bound Melissa, who Ali had kidnapped and was planning to kill as well. Ali is trapped inside the house and it's assumed she died in the fire, although her body is never found.

After learning that her ex-husband shipped Hanna off to a mental institution, Ashley Marin transfers back to Rosewood and kicks Hanna's father, Isabel and Kate out of the house, thrilling Hanna. Hanna and Mike get back together.

Meredith goes into labor, giving birth to a girl named Lola. Aria and Noel get back together after it is revealed that Ali kissed him, not the other way around, and Ella breaks up with Xavier after learning of his inappropriate behavior towards Aria.

Spencer's father proclaims that even though he and her mother may not get back together, things are going to change for the better in their family, and Spencer and Melissa grow closer after almost being killed.

Emily buries everything she can find that reminds her of Ali at Courtney's grave, hoping she can finally find closure, but is unsure of whether the noises she hears at the cemetery are real or imagined. And somewhere, a new girl starts her senior year at an anonymous school, a girl whose name just so happens to be an anagram of Alison DiLaurentis. The reader is left wondering if Alison is alive.

I really enjoyed the entire series. I know they're geared more towards teenagers, but these are so well written and thought out that I can't help, but be a little hooked as an adult reading these.

I don't think the gist of the entire plot was obvious to every single reader, but I had mostly everything solved reading the first book. I'm like that, obnoxiously so (my best friend thinks watching Criminal Intent & CSI: NY with me is the most hilarious thing. I solve the entire case in 15 minutes. It both fascinates her and weirds her out.), and yet this book is BRILLIANT.

I'm a city girl, born & bred, and bearing that in mind, a lot of this stuff reminded me of the girls I grew up with and/or went to school with. Regardless of time or place, girls don't really change all that much.

Do not hesitate to pick these books up. They are incredibly fast reads and I love how smart and sassy they are as a complete body of work. Kudos to Sara on all of this. I am REALLY looking forward to her next series. =)

Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you'll save
Better lock it, in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you
Won't tell what I said
Cause two can keep a secret
If one of the m is dead

so this is it?? this is finally over?

the whole PLL series made my world turn upside down , after i finished reading each book in the series i always come up with my own theories on who is A and who murdered Alison but sadly none of my theories is correct. not even one of them is correct ... this last book gave me the creeps and it is seriously twisted.. i feel like i am watching single white female...

who would have thought ALI KILLED ALI ... i mean seriously?? i never saw that one coming! it's actually nice that the clues given in the series is connected until the end of the book. after reading this book. i finally understood what the "sibling problems" Ali is pertaining to, i have it all wrong the first thing that pop in my mind is incest... after reading this book all the clues and "reading between the lines messages" is finally deciphered and revealed and honestly saying it kinda gave me goosebumps when everything is explained.. *shivers*

i'm happy everything turned out well for the four girls ...

and BTW Courtney is a freaking evil genius!!!

4 more books to be published by sara Sheperd in continuation of the PLL series i honestly don't know how can the author will continue the story when everything is so happy,so perfect,so flawless for the four girls I'm guessing that maybe this time there is a new set of girls to be terrorized.

to those who are so itching to know who murdered alison and who is A you can read the ishpoilers below:

****minor spoilers, but not the BIG secrets
Snap! what a perfectly creepy ending to this addictive series. I was kind of sad to see it end, but there is no way it could have been drawn out much longer. all the answers to the question you didn't know you should be asking were served up in this finale.

This whole series is filled with so many twist, I thought I had it figured out and by the middle of the book I was so pleased with myself for figuring it all out, until the ending came. I couldn't believe how wrong I had been, even though I was right. That probably makes no sense if you haven't read this, but if you have you are saying "EXACTLY!!!!".

Now that I'm done with the series I have a couple of nagging comments.

First, how about the fact that so many of the story lines were just dropped when it became irrelevant to "A" or "Ali's" murder. If they would have been cleared up I would have felt a little less strung along. Like Wilden and his old amish lifestyle and the missing ex-girlfriend as well as some erratic behavior (I personally don't think the fact the he knew the DiLaurentis' family secret would make him act quite as crazy as he did), Jason and his outburst at Emily, Emily's Ex-boyfriend's crazy mom, Ali's decorations on the flag are not completely explained and other stuff along those lines. I understand that everyone needed to be connected to odd behavior and deep secrets in order to make the suspense last to the ending point, but other irrelevant plot lines were easily cleared up.

And let's not get started on how Spencer's memory kept changing anytime someone suggested someone else as the killer. It was annoying, especially because she was easily the most likable of the four other than the fact that she became an unreliable character about half way through the series.

Even with the few things that bothered me throughout the whole series I LOVED every minute of it, reading most of them in one night a piece. Sara Shepard did a brilliant job of stringing us and her characters along. The situations the girls found themselves in were juicy and at times heart-breaking. I really came to care about these not-so-perfect girls.

Wow, I'm still trying to unravel the last bit of the book and sort out who was who and who did what. It was a very interesting read and I highly recommend it. All the girls go through character development which I like. The story is multi-faceted and really quite intriguing. I can't wait to read the next books that take place a year later. Kisses!

I finished this book in half a day! And...WHOA! That is all I can say. Shepard characterizes her characters so well. She doesn't ever have an unbelievable character. She characterized Hanna perfectly. She made her believable, and vulnerable, not just bitchy. I also think the contrast between Emily and Hanna (queen bee and good girl) and Spencer and Aria (Typical rosewood overachiever and the kooky mysterious one) was amazing. I think Wilden's character should have been flushed out, why did he have an Amish gf?I want to know! I hated Hanna's dad and I really hated Kate. She was just plain bitchy and annoying. Moving on, I liked how Shepard dealt with the teenage world (clothes, boys, friendship, family and school) in a funny, but real way. The entire investigation was amazing, it made me think, if my best friend disappeared tomorrow, what would I do? How long before we all gossiped about her and fought over the Bf she left behind? What secrets did she keep? Makes you wonder doesn't it?

When this book started I was like, what are they going to do now that they know who killed Ali? But, then I thought about it, Billy couldn't have killed Ali, its too simple. Way too simple. If this book had been a movie only, I would have turned it off as soon as Courtney came about...it would have been too far fetched, but here--it worked. It worked amazingly. I loved Courtney/Ali's character, she was secretive, manipulative and beautiful. At first I didn't think she was Ali, I thought that Shepard was trying to make us think crazy Courtney was being crazy again. But, at the end, when we realize the P.L.L's knew Courtney all along, not Ali, I was like whoa...okay, which sister is crazy? The one who stole her sister's life or the one who killed her in a rash act of jealousy and tried to burn four innocent girls? I was also kind of sad that the girl the P.L.L's had been friends with was dead. Maybe Courtney was crazy, but some of the moments the P.L.L's shared with her seemed real. However, the things she did to them, the blackmail, the ditching, that does make her sound crazy and mean now that I think about it, maybe she was crazy...but, hell, so was Ali, she killed her own sister! But, I think all the fault in the Ali/ Courtney drama, fell on the Dilaurentis parents, they couldn't tell their kids apart? I mean really! A lot of the girls problems come from their parents, come to think about it. They would all have been better of as orphans! haha. In the author's note, Shepard said she liked reading the review from her fans, so, Ms. Shepard if you read this...congrats. You wrote a great series that wasn't all about hook ups and money. That was interesting of course, but at least the girls had depth!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

These girls are so dumb.

First, let's just mention the first line in the author acknowledgements:
It is with a heavy heart that I write the acknowledgements for the last book in the Pretty Little Liars series.

Yeah, I call bull shit as there still 8 more. I'm thinking it should have just ended here.

Now onto this book. Ali is back. But she's pretending to be her twin sister Courtney who was actually pretending to be Ali when she died. Got it? Everyone's just pretending to be everyone and the girls eat this right up. Especially Emily who finally has her Ali back (could you be any more pathetic Emily?). But weird things keep happening and stories aren't adding up and it all comes to head in a giant blaze at a cabin.

First off, I think it's funny how quick these girls were to believe that this Courtney was Ali. I mean, it turned out it was but you would think after all they have been through with the lies and everything that they would have doubted it for a minute - only Aria questioned it. Everyone else just fell in line. And this is after 7 books of them realizing how horrible Ali was. Apparently she wasn't that horrible if they're all kissing her ass again.

On top of that, when the giant reveal happens it really makes no sense. This will be spoilery now. Ali blames the girls for ruining her life and that's why she's been targeting them. How exactly did they ruin her life? They thought they were friends with the real Ali when actually it was Courtney. So while her anger towards Courtney is understandable, her anger towards the girls really isn't. So that whole thing felt a little ridiculous.

But hey, they girls are friends again so there's that. I can't believe there's still 8 more books. I never thought I'd say I like the TV show better, but it's worlds better than these Gossip Girl knockoffs.

Wow! That was a near perfect ending. But why has Sara Shepard written another 4 books? :\

So..... is 'A' truly 'A'?

Regardless, as long as Shepard writes them, i'll happily continue reading them.

My favorite Pretty Little Liar has to go to Spencer! (even though I love them all) :)

THE PEOPLE OF ROSEWOOD ARE GOING TO NEED SO MUCH THERAPY.

In fact, let's make it a competition! It's a game show! Who Wants to Be Mentally Stable, Eventually? Let's welcome our first contestants, Mr. and Mrs. Cavanaugh!

Mr. and Mrs. Cavanaugh: Thank you. Well, our daughter was blinded a few years back, and we had no idea that she struck a deal with the girl who blinded her to frame her brother, because he was molesting her. So then a few months ago, our apparently reformed but still guilt-stricken son kills himself, and NOW our daughter's been murdered! Trauma city, right?

Hanna: Who let these two in? They're not fabulous. Hi, I'm Hanna, and after Ali was murdered back in sixth grade, I became besties with Mona. We did absolutely everything together, and she was always there for me - a big deal, considering that my mom was totally neglectful, ha ha! So then my old group of friends and I started getting all this creepy blackmail, and the blackmailer actually HITS ME WITH A CAR and puts me in the hospital. And it turns out it was Mona! And then she fell into a ravine and died! No, like, actually died, not Hollywood died - we found her body. And then we got blackmailed again and almost killed again and it all sucked. I'm going to need therapy, like, forever.

Aria: I'm not sure why I'm even here. It was bad, for sure, but I'll be fine because I'm the most Zen person that every existed. For example, my dad cheated on my mom, then moved out of our house and in with the other woman, and now she's having his baby, and bro, I ain't even mad. I'm like, "I call godmother!"

Emily: So I was in love with "Ali," who was really Courtney, for years. And then "Courtney" shows up, and I was falling for her even before she was all, "Surprise, I'm Ali!" and I was like, "OH MY GOD YOU'RE THE GIRL I WAS IN LOVE WITH!" And she's like, "YES AND I LOVE YOU BACK" and I was soooo happy and then she's all, "Psych, that was Courtney you loved and I killed her and now I'm going to kill all of yoooou!" So, I have made out with the crazy person who killed the girl I loved. Yeah.

Spencer: Eesh, tough act to follow. I mean, Mona almost killed me, so that's . . . and both Ali and Courtney were secretly my half-sisters, so I kind of . . . yeah, but they were Melissa's half-sisters, too, and this is one time I don't even want to compete with Melissa.

Melissa: TEARS. ALL OF TEARS.

Spencer: Are those "my two half-sisters are dead" tears, or "my parents' marriage is destroyed" tears, or "my insane half-sister jumped me in a parking lot and stuffed me in a trunk and then left me tied up in a closet with the weeks-old decaying body of my former boyfriend and then set the house on fire" tears?

Melissa: BAAAAAWWWW

Spencer: Yeah, I'm going to hand this one to Melissa.

Aria: Sounds good.

Hanna: You guys! Total trauma over here!

Emily: *sniffle*

Mr. and Mrs. Cavanaugh: We really are very upset over -

Hanna: Shut it, sob story. Nobody cares.

(On another note, I like that this book states - and eventually debunks - exactly what Hanna fears will happen if she stops being the top dog at her school, popularity-wise. See, Hanna? You didn't instantly gain a ton of weight and go back to glasses and have all your hair dye fall out, and people you care about still like you!)

Also, was that whole Amish subplot just a total red herring? Or what?

This review is going to be full of Spoilers! I don't think there is any way to write a review for this book without giving to much information away. So, before I start my review I would just like to tell the people who have not read it yet, that is is an amazing book, it ends perfectly and is a great finish to the Pretty Little Liars series.

On to my review,

This book started off great right from the beginning. I, not in a million years would have ever thought that Alison had a twin. Through the last few books in the series I thought that the killer was, Melissa, Spencer's sister. And I especially thought that since Melissa seemed to always be showing up in the beginning of the book and the girls kept catching glimpse's of her every where they went. But when Alison's mom, Mrs. DiLaurentis called all the girls- Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer- to the press conference she is having the girls have no clue why they are going to be there. Mrs. DiLaurentis just tells them that there is something they need to know. After the girls get there out walks Alison! But, it isn't actually Alison, it is actually Ali's twin sister Courtney-or so they think.

This book has so many twists and turns. My jaw was literally hanging open the whole time I was reading this book, I could not believe all the stuff that was happening. It was stuff that I didn't even think would happen. Sara Shepard really did end her series on a high note, and to this day this series stand as one of my top favorites!

Ma cosa fa!, e poi: “no Emily, no!

Chapeau!

Well, I officially know who A is, again.. New A I suppose, or always actually really was A. Sara Shepard is seriously addicting, and after seeing the awesome new episode, I had to just get it over with, and learn who A was. I'm still going to watch the show of course, everyone says they will switch it up, but I don't think they should. The ending to this book was great. I'm still team Hannah she is my favorite Pretty Little Liar, but this entire book felt like a really juicy Lifetime movie. The show for me is better on the romance front, Sara Shepard seems able to do suspense and twists, but romance is sort of one dimensional. The plot is riveting enough to cover that up though, this book brings an entirely new freaky brand of crazy, I loved it, and I'm finally just happy to know who A is, I zoomed through this one fairly quick, but it was worth it. I always thought that maybe it was just some prank gone seriously wrong, and maybe Mona was just a fluke or something. However, after reading this, crazy, unstable, and dark don't even begin to cover it. This was like Inception, not that complicated actually, but close. In the end I was all like What? no really WHAT? then I was all like.. Ok? I flipped the book over to make sure it was not written by Marry Higgins Clark or R.L. Stein lol, brining the crazy thats for sure. I loved all the false leads to a point, but by then end of the series I was like, Sweet Jesus in a manger are you kidding, I honestly at some point thought every single character slightly mentioned was A. It felt like I was watching How I Met Your Mother, who is the girl with the yellow umbrella? Who? TELL ME!!! Ok random sorry, but anyway such a huge twisty journey we've gone on whilst reading Pretty Little Liars. I loved the books, and the show is fantastic, I'm hopelessly addicted, and in the end all the drama, and confusion is worth the power of knowing.

The second to last novel in the Pretty Little Liars series--Wanted--by Sara Shepard, tells the story of the twisted fate of four girls from a small Pennsylvania town called Rosewood. Aria, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna lost their best friend Ali during a strange, mysterious night four years ago. They discovered important, life-altering facts about her disappearance in each book leading up to this and have found out so much about her passing that they refuse to stop now. Taking place in a modern day setting with normal teenage girls who are going through a not-so-normal situation, these teens experience personal troubles along with questioning their judgement and discovering that they were right and wrong about many things. Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily finally get to put that fateful night to rest, but not without finding out that much of what they thought was true really wasn’t.
Shepard tells a surprisingly convincing story that is written is a subtly mature way. Wanted deals with real teenage girl issues while addressing a problem that isn’t very common. It has the right amount of unrealistic and sensible issues that are easy to relate to and interesting, such as eating disorders, family separation, and first love. There are also many genres of writing included in Wanted; for instance, mystery, romance, horror, and realistic fiction. Overall, Wanted is an astonishingly good read that is difficult to put down and will have the reader guessing until the very end.

So horrible that I am actually angry I read past the fourth book, which I believe was the original end of this series. I can't imagine this shit continuing for another four books, it has gotten so contrived. Yeah, so ranting about the eighth book in the Pretty Little Liars series is sort of like buying one of those 99 cent frozen pizzas and going "WHY DOES THIS TASTE LIKE NOTHING I DEMAND TO KNOW", but it managed to be sort of witty and relatively thrilling into even the sixth book! I expected better.

That's so freaking bad!

this book had me screaming, crying and throwing up- JAHDGHSJAJA that plot-twist was just-🧍‍♀️i loved it SO MUCH!!!

the past PLL books were kinda boring imo, and i felt like nothing was really happening, but this one was actually GREAT, i think the reason why i enjoyed it more is because the vibes here were really similar to the vibes in the first 4 books, which are my favorite ones so far. (i think this one made it to my list of faves too)

also i feel like the writing improved a lot.
we love to see it 😭

(btw, one thing i hated is that just like in the tv show, this series loves queerbating and it is really annoying tbh💀)

Start...now. It all comes down to an evil twin. You probably guessed this before, but it's one thing to guess and another thing to have this confirmed. Ali's twin, Courtney, spent most of her life in various psych wards, only they're the nice, rich varieties.

The summer Ali befriended the Pretty Little Liars, Courtney was home for a few days before being switched to a different facility. The one Hanna later ends up staying in due to A's trickery. C managed to pull the ultimate twin switch that weekend and Ali was sent to the funny farm in C's place.

C, as Ali, befriends people she's sure will not truly question her leadership and dumps anyone who might have known she wasn't really Alison. Because C is crazy, although we're not really given a real diagnosis here, she acts out.

Towards the start of the book, Ali's family reveals Courtney to the world via a press conferance. Only Courtney, remember, is really Ali. Ali convinces her friends that she's the real deal and that she's spent the last few years living her life as Courtney because no one would believe the truth. Her time in the nuthouse has reformed her and she wants to be a better friend to them.

In Spencer's case this means she wants to be the best sister ever. In Hanna's case, she's finally acknowledged as fabulous by the ever fabulous Alison, and Ali also helps get even with Kate. Emily is given hope that Ali really does want to be with her romantically. Only Aria refuses to buy what nu!Ali is selling. Too much weird stuff has happened to just start all over, and this might be the single most realistic thing in this book.

Thing is, the guy who revealed as "Ali's" killer? Has an alibi for the other crimes he supposedly commited. And a picture surfaces of the night Ali disappeared, only the person who took the picture is reflected in the Polaroid. And that person is decidedly female. For a minute we're supposed to believe it's Melissa, but unlike a lot of other fake outs in the series, this one doesn't really ring all that true. Bitchy and hyper-competitive, yes. Capable of that level of psychosis? Yeaaaaaah. Not so much.

And so Ali recreates the night 'she' disappeared. Only now she's going to kill the PLLs because...

Because...

Why, exactly? She's crazy. That's all the motivation we're given. Yeah, sure, Courtney picked absolute losers (one of whom the twins were related to, however) but how does anyone make that a case for murder? Seriously? That's where my big problem with Wanted comes in. It's a hell of a ride until it winds down and you realize that this whole thing was built on top of a really shaky premise. "Girl's twin takes her life. Girl kills twin, spends a year or so stalking twin's "friends" and ultimately attempts to kill them. No real reason given."

The best part of the book is the moment you realize that their Ali was never really Ali at all. The girl they mourned this entire time was actually Crazy Courtney. Poor Court may have been nuttier than fruitcake, but not one single shrine was erected in her honor, and that makes me kind of sad.

Wow so i saw none of this coming. I mean i knew that Ali was going to have a twin, i figured that out as soon as hanna saw that picture at the mental place. But this whole courtney is ali and ali was courtney confused me so i'm going to just explain it here to help me understand(incase you didnt notice before SPOILER ALERT! im about to give away the answer to the whole series):
ALI was friends with Naomi and Riley until the day the girl went to steal ali's piece of the flag. Then Courtney became ali ditched naomi and riley for the PLLs because naomi and riley have a history with the real ali and would see through her game. and so on the day of spencers sleepover in the barn the Pll's Ali was inside while Naomi and Rileys ALi was outside. the Naomi and rileys ali killed the Plls ali.
sooo as far as the Courtney was ali and ali was courtney goes ali was ali for 11 years then courtney was ali for about 2 years, during that time ali was courtney. then ali wanted her life back but ended up with another 4 years as courtney.

After i finally got all this through my head i was so surprised. I really thought that it was melissa al these years. ever since she brought spencer to their grandparents lake house and ripped the heads off barbies haha but then of course one every one started seeing melissa everywhere i knew sara would never make it so easy to guess who it was.
Know that it is all over i still have some unanswered questions, nothing huge just minor little details, but im sure thats how sara wanted it to be. To give us closer but to still sorta leave us hanging. and some one once said "always leave them wanting more."

I rather not spoiler, but i will say, i felt grasping at straws, but it was well done. I am beyond anxious to see where this series is gonna go now thou. Lots of nail biting. Ahhh. Birds are chirping, kids are laughing, and another one bites the dust. All of this could only happen in Rosewood, Pennsylvania. A town with wealth, pride, and enough secrets to drown itself. But, theres a catch. All of these secrets belong to four Pretty Little Liars. Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily are back for another freightning adventure in Sara Shepard's 8th installment; Wanted. Last time we saw these girls Jenna was pronounced dead. Therefore, alot more questions to be answered. In "Wanted", all of your irritable questions like, are Jenna and Ian dead, will in fact be answered. What did Aria mean when the spirit said "Ali killed Ali?" Whats up with Spencers sister? Or should I say sisters. Will Hanna ever come back to be queen bee or will someone out of the blue take her place? Lets not forget Emily. Can she find someone new to love or will her old feelings resurface? Last but not least Ali. Who killed her and are the Pretty Little Liars right about what they found in the last book? Sara has made you believe throughout the whole series the killer could be anyone. I'll give you a hint Pretty Little Readers, the killer is right under your nose, and their not leaving until hell breaks loose one last time.
