Fat-free cheese is okay--unless you've tasted real cheese. Juliet Easton learns this about love too as she uncovers who truly loves her, and who is using her to get to the secret she knows about the disappearance of her sister's fiance and the pharmaceutical conspiracy he plans to reveal. Can she protect her loved ones' lives and her heart? You'll be hooked from Asiago to Zamorano cheese in this suspenseful and hilarious romantic thriller.
Crissy Sharp has a special knack for avoiding cooking and cleaning so she can focus the hobbies she truly enjoys, like writing and running. Though she’ll always be a Montana girl at heart, she also loves Tennessee, where she currently lives with her husband and four children.
This book is a mess and doesn't hold together very well, but the author is talented enough that it's not obvious unless you think about it a bit. If you're just along for the ride and accept everything at face value then you'll probably be okay. Which is kind of strange to do in a book that talks so much about not taking things at face value.
I originally went through making a case for all the things that had problems: the plot, the main bad guy, the secondary bad guy, awkward two-year time jumps for exposition, even the main characters have some convenient lapses and inconsistencies. But that would make this a really tedious review so I'll just say that if you're looking for something that will withstand scrutiny, this isn't for you. If you're content with the emotion of the moment, then Sharp has the talent to keep the pace brisk and the questions muted enough for you to enjoy the spectacle (though those two-year time jumps for some of the chapters nearly mess that up as well).
And yes, the three-star rating is a touch generous given the problems I had with so many different areas of the story. The thing was, I was never bored and didn't mind sticking it out to the end. Sharp's pacing really is outstanding (particularly once all the exposition is finally delivered) and that turns out to be no small thing.
A note about missing faith: This is a mild case of missing faith and it's really only at the very end when the sincere, deeply-felt I love yous have been spoken that it becomes awkward that they aren't intimate at all. There's a jump of some six weeks and people that connected who aren't sleeping together really need a reason for it not to feel odd.
This book is not what I was expecting. The cover, title, and short blurb hooked me immediately and the first page wasn't any different. The story begins with Juliet and her brother, Everett, in a yoga class. And it only gets better from there.
Ready to make a change in her life, Juliet's looking to move back home and find a job that allows her to use her new college degree. The clever wit that oozes out of Juliet, along with the mystery/suspense elements, flashbacks, and romantic comedy, attached me to the story like you wouldn't believe. The cast of characters is like something out of a variety show--from baffling heroes to crazy moms to peculiar neighbors to mean co-workers to sweet siblings--they all kept me on my toes, eager to see what could possibly happen next. I love how connected Juliet is to her family and close friends and how they anchor her.
Told in first person, the story really does engage a reader and draws you right into this wacky and amusing plot. I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent with these delightful characters and look forward to more by this debut author!
Content: mild romance; mild violence
*I received a copy through the publisher. I voluntarily reviewed this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.*
This book had sort of a cozy mystery atmosphere to it, with a bit of goofiness in between, a very charming and well written storyline. Perfect for a relaxing weekend or summer beach read.
I'm super excited to share this book with you all today! This is a new author to me and I can tell she is going to be a new favorite! I do believe this is her debut novel.
The one thing confusing me right now is the blurb. The main character's name is Juliet. Not Julia. ?? She doesn't even go by Julia in the book. At all. ??
Other than that, I really loved this book! It was so easy to settle in with. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't put it down. There is a bit of suspense and intrigue to the story which slowly unfolds in mostly flashback form at first. Then, when we are caught up, the past and present collide. The suspense never felt too heart pounding or overwhelming. It definitely had a lighter feel to it.
The characters were believable and I really liked them. Juliet is a smart and witty girl. I loved how her family was her center. They rallied and took care of each other. Juliet's brother, Everett is one of my favorites. I sure hope he gets a book of his very own. :)
I'm looking forward to more by this author!
Content: Clean, some mild violence
-I received a copy of this book from the publisher. A favorable review was not required and all opinions expressed are my own.
The first thing that I thought of when I saw this title was "diet cookbook." I had to take a second look and read the blurb to find out that it was in fact a novel that sounded very interesting. There are unique references to food.
This book has romance and suspense. It begins with Juliet and her brother at a yoga class. I related with Juliet and found her personality adorable from the first pages. She has a great support group in her family. She is close to her brother,Everett, and her sister, Eva. They have been through some tough times and are stronger as a family because of their trials. One of the main trials throughout the book is they are dealing with the aftermath of Eva's fiancee's disappearance. This is where the suspense comes in. Her sister is followed everywhere she goes and the bad guys aren't giving up, even after two years. This leads to interesting, suspenseful, and dramatic situations.
I loved the romance aspect of the book. Juliet has a couple of guys interested in her, but only one captures her heart. The romance is cute and full of misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
This book is well written. It has great pacing. The characters and the plot are engaging. I will be watching out for books written by Crissy Sharp in the future.
This is a clean romance with a little bit of violence.
By the end I actually ended up liking this story quite a bit but it took me what felt like forever to get through it. It was way too easy for me to put this one down after a chapter or two. I much prefer when I can't put a book down because I am so invested in the characters. This one just wasn't that way for me. That said this book had a lot happening and although a little unbelievable at times it was an unique story with lots of twists and turns.

"Fat-free cheese is okay--unless you've tasted real cheese." This line always cracks me up. I don't know what it is about it, but something about the title of this book and starting off your summary with that very true and hilarious line drew me in. I am not afraid to admit that I picked up this book for review just based on that line alone. And I am so happy that I did. Love and Fat-Free Cheese was a hilarious and en aging read. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Cheese lovers will delight over the cheese references, so grab a pizza, or a grilled cheese or a mac and cheese and sit down to enjoy Love and Fat-Free Cheese. (not to mention it has a pretty goo thriller element as well.)
Love and Fat-Free Cheese is an adult romantic comedy thriller by author Crissy Sharp. Calling a book both a romantic comedy and a thriller feels a little strange to combine, but in this case it really worked. I loved both the suspense aspects and I really loved the humorous aspects. I liked the humor more, because I just love to smile while reading a book. Juliet's story is totally big screen worthy and I personally think it would make for a great made for tv movie or a movie in the theaters. I would go to to see it in an instant.
What I loved the most about Love and Fat-Free Cheese was how conversational and witty the writing was. This is the first book I have had the pleasure of reading by Crissy but I know it will not be my last. I loved her characters and the plot surprised me. I had some elements figured out but the twist was a cool surprise. Cheese lovers- rejoice, this book will have you cracking up and craving cheese (which is just about every day for me.) and if you are not a cheese lover....I don't even know what to say here. Do those people exist? I think even Lactose intolerant people like and long for cheese. (ok, enough of my cheese tangent.)
Bottom line: Read Love and Fat-Free Cheese It is a super cute book that will have you laughing and I think the mystery/thriller plotline will surprise you. This was a very good read.
This is one of my favorite genres and I am happy to say that I loved this book! It starts with Juliet and her brother, Everett, in a yoga class. Her thoughts on that had me laughing so I knew this would be a winner for me. She has an interview later that day with her brother's best friend, Owen. She also meets Lila Bradley, the daughter of the owner of the company, who is pampered and possessive of Owen. Eva, Juliet's sister, is involved in some drama. We get her love story with her missing fiance, Will, in bits and pieces.
I loved (most of) the characters in this book! It was nice to see how well Everett, Juliet and Eva got along and supported each other. As they got more involved with the mystery surrounding Will, it wasn't always clear who they could trust. Owen easily fit in with them and was attracted to Juliet, but there was a huge obstacle that needed to be taken care of first.
Once I started reading this, I had a hard time putting it down! It has a good balance of humor, romance and mystery, which kept me entertained from beginning to end. I also loved how the title of the book fit into the story--it was perfect! This is the author's first book and I'm looking forward to reading more from her in the future!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher, which did not affect my review in any way
I absolutely LOVED this book! Mystery, love, suspense, and humor makes for one great read. The cover is adorable. With the title, I thought it might be another of the food mystery-type books, but it wasn't. In fact, I really liked the title and where it came from. I read the entire book to my husband while we drove and he really enjoyed it too. The only problem was that the proofreader/editor doesn't understand dialogue punctuation which made reading out loud a little difficult. That was disappointing, but the book was fabulous and I wouldn't let the typos keep you from reading it! I can't wait to read another book by this author.
I loved this book. From start to finish, Sharp created dynamic characters and an intriguing plot. Once I got into it, the story pulled me right along. There is a perfect balance of suspense and romance. How can you go wrong with cute, intelligent, kind leading men & a wiity, driven leading gal? This is a clean, cozy, and fun read. As much as I love a good book, life is typically so busy, the opportunity to curl up and digest a whole story in a day rarely happens for me... I am so glad I got to do just that with this debut novel from Crissy Sharp
Well I did like the book, I feel like there were a lot of holes that could have easily been answered here and there. Although, I know that a lot of Will was left up to never be learned because he was always in hiding. I had a couple of issues with characters, mainly Lila, but not because she was this hateful person in the whole storyline, but because she was your typical "overbearing, daddy owns my business" type of girl who has everything given to her on a silver platter. Then of course there is Luke, and I'm sure most of us have met a Luke in our lives; you know, that one person that can't seem to understand you just want nothing to do with them? Yeah.
With that said, I can honestly say that just about every character they came in contact with throughout the story, left me guessing who was behind all the craziness happening in Juliet's and Ev's lives. So when I found out who was the most violent of them, I was surprised, but at the same time not really because I kind of had a hunch from the start
Other than those small little things that can easily be looked past, I finished the book and was left with a sense of closure for our characters and happy that just about everyone seemed to have gotten what they wanted.
Great story! I couldn't put this one down until I was finished. Fun, clean romance, with a great mystery mixed right in. I can't wait to see what the author writes next!
I loved this book! The characters were well-written and the plot had romance and mystery. I was sucked in from the beginning and enjoyed it to the end. I would definitely recommend this book!
Juliet Easton is at a crossroad in her life. She's seeking a job looking to put her statistical skills to good use and thanks to her big brother Everett she has a job interview. Juliet somehow manages to impress CEO Owen Denny with her passion for numbers and gets a job offer that brings her back to her hometown.
But returning home has a few drawbacks and they all center around her sister Eva and Eva's fiance Will. Two years ago Will mysteriously disappeared while attempting to reveal a pharmaceutical cover-up. And her family is still living with the repercussions of his disappearance, especially Eva.
Juliet comes to love her new job with the exception of Owen's girlfriend Lila, who seems to take an instant dislike to Jules. And she's determined to paint Juliet in the worst possible light whenever their together which unfortunately is whenever Lila feels like showing up at Daddy's company.
But when Juliet is drawn into the mystery surrounding Will's disappearance life takes a dangerous turn that finds the entire Easton family potentially in danger for what they may or may not know about Will and his investigation.
Where do you ask does fat-free cheese come into the equation? Eva has long believed Will would someday return to her. And to Eva real love is like cheese, if you've eaten (or experienced) the real thing you'll never be satisfied with the fat-free kind. And Juliet is about to experience Eva's logic for herself as she navigates life with its unique twists and turns.
If you like unexpected plot twists, mysteries, and a dose of romance in a contemporary setting you'll want to pick up a copy of Love and Fat-free Cheese and get lost between the covers of a fun story for a few hours.
I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher with no expectations of a positive review - all opinions expressed are my own.
I was amazed at just how much I loved this whole book. I picked it up and read it in one day because I wanted to know just what happened so badly. Such a great book, and I had to laugh at the author's name, Sharp is a kind of cheddar cheese so it totally goes with the title.
I loved the way that Juliet is the main character in this book, because it easily could have been her sister Eva, I think having Juliet the main character brings a ton of extra plot greatness. I also liked the way there were tons of flashbacks to Eva's story of love and the craziness that went on with Will. Juliet is such a great character, she's loyal to her family - especially Eva, loving, trusting - almost too trusting in some places, and just plain awesome.
I found myself just as confused about Owen Denny as Juliet was for most of the book. It was hard to tell just who he really liked, and what his motivations were until he revealed them at the end of the story. It did seem like he was a great guy, for the most part. But since the whole book is from Juliet's point of view that was also a bit hard to tell. It was very obvious that she was conflicted about him.
Then there was Luke...Juliet really liked Luke, but there was one scene in the book that made me really not like him. And her brother Everett and Owen are always telling Juliet that Luke is not quite what he seems. Quite honestly there was a lot in this book that was not quite what it seemed, and I loved that. That made the plot so interesting and it made me not want to put this one down.
This book is full of suspense and romance that will keep you guessing and keep you wanting to read more until the very last word!
Not what I was expecting. I thought by the title of this book it would be a romantic comedy. Although there is some romance and humorous bits, I would classify it more as a romantic suspense. The characters were good but the settings were confusing. For those of you curious the title is explained as once you have real true love you can never go back to pretend love (real cheese vs fat-free cheese).
I was lucky enough to get my hands on this book a couple weeks early. Crissy is an incredibly talented writer and the story is the perfect combination of mystery, love, and wit. Hoping this one hits the big screen. You won't regret reading it.
Fantastic! I loved this book. It was a compelling story with real characters that I liked and felt invested in. I loved the mystery, the romance, and the comparison to fat-free cheese.
“Love and Fat Free Cheese starts out as a romantic comedy with Juliet, the unassuming protagonist and recent college graduate, in need of both a job and a boyfriend. Her self-deprecating personality endears her to the other characters that she meets. Juliet lands a job with a handsome boss, Owen, and romantic sparks begin to fly.
However, Juliet discovers that Owen is romantically entangled with the owner’s hilariously self-absorbed daughter, Lila. Juliet then finds herself drawn to, Luke, who is great eye candy, but seems a little creepy.
A mystery from Juliet’s past resurfaces and the plot shifts into high gear. It’s time to fasten our seat belts as Juliet is thrust into a mile-a-minute perilous adventure involving corporate corruption that leaves us fighting to catch our breath, and wondering who her real friends are.
This is a remarkable book that pushes all the right buttons to keep us glued to the story: romance, mystery, suspense, danger, and keen humor.
This was an easy read but I wasn’t too invested. I felt like the author kept forgetting about the romance and it didn’t pair well with some of the suspense later in the book. This should definitely be categorized as romance suspense because I had a lot of what the crap just happened moments. The two genres didn’t blend well personally and I felt like I was reading two different story lines at times. There was a lot of mystery, which was good of course in the beginning, but it got old and nothing was answered until the last few chapters all at once by a character. The relationship itself between the two main characters felt kinda empty and I had a hard time connecting with them. There were definitely some cute parts and lines that made me giggle tho lol. I would recommend this to a friend I think but overall it was mid.
between the characters was fun. I chuckled out loud a few times. I loved the family dynamics in this story. I love reading a story where I admire the family and how they support each other. This also had some intrigue which kept me glued to the book until the end. Overall it was a great read and I highly recommend it.
While the romance was nice, the mystery intriguing, it went off the rails for me the last quarter of the book. It was a bit outlandish and just too.... It was a nice, clean romance with no religion shoved down your throat for those not loving that. Still, it was enough to keep me involved and interested throughout.
Loved it! Delightful romance that proves the point that a fat-free romance isn't worth it. My favorite was the suspense woven in the story and the quirk minor characters. I look forward to more from Crissy.
I really enjoyed this book. Romance! Adventure! Twists and turns! Flashbacks! Misunderstandings! Mystery! Friendship! The situations were crazy but the characters seemed real. I want to read any books Crissy Sharp has written.
I loved this book so much!! It was a very quick, easy to get into romance and mystery and I read it in just a couple of days. Just super fun, of course a little cheesy, but who doesn’t love cheese now and then?! ;)
This book was a lot more intricate than I had expected from the title. Several plot twists kept it very interesting. The combination of romance and intrigue was great.
