The edge-of-your seat powerful conclusion to GHOST HOUSE.
In the sequel to the page-turning GHOST HOUSE, Alexander Reade turns up at Sycamore High not remembering how he got there. But worse, he doesn't remember Chloe Kennedy and believes he has come back to search for his lost love Isobel.
Chloe soon realizes that Alex needs her help surviving in the modern world. With his looks and the way he speaks, it's as though he's from another century. Which he is. In fact Alex has been dead for 157 years, but that doesn't change how Chloe feels about him.
Chloe begins to experiences dreams that take her to a past life and realizes they are linked to Isobel. But when Isobel appears, Alex and Chloe must accept that the past and the present have collided. Chloe is being hunted by Isobel, who is just as vengeful as ever and out to destroy any bond between Alex and Chloe.
Alexandra Emily Adornetto was born on the 18th of April 1992 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. She is the only child of an English Teacher and a Drama Teacher and attended, in her own words, "many" schools including MacRobertson Girls' High School, Ruyton Girls' School and Eltham College. She has loved stories for as long as she can remember. In 2006, she won the State Legacy Public Speaking competition. She began writing a Children's novel when she was only 13, inspired by J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. At 14, she sold it to HarperCollins Publishers, that also bought the two next novels of The Strangest Adventures series. The Halo series is her first YA fantasy romance and marks her international debut. She relocated to Oxford, Mississippi, where she divided her time between the USA and Australia, while she studied and wrote. Now she lives in Hollywood, where she hopes to combine novel writing and acting as Alexandra Grace. Her passions include old-school country music, theology, singing and performing.
I really loved the first book Ghost House but this book was a let down. I waited 2 years for this and it felt rushed. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t exactly love it. I takes a lot for me to focus on a book and for my mind to keep interested in a book, and this one didn’t keep my interest at all, so I really struggled to get through it. I thought it was really boring compared to the first book. This book was not what I expected. To be honest, I don’t actually remember that much about this book.
Compared to the first book this one was really lacking plot. The first book was so full of detail and suspense that I couldn’t wait to read the next one. So I was kinda disappointed when I was finally able to read it. It was great to see what had after the ending of the first but this one didn’t draw me in the same way the first did.
Wonderfully written YA novel that also appeals to grown-ups! It is the second installment of "Ghost House," but it reads like a stand-alone story. We want more!
I read the first novel of this all the way back in 2014 as a galley - so since I think this was a duology, might as well try the second? I think I'm just keen on revisiting older YA series in general. I'll talk about my project on that later, but I believe I have a copy of this, so might as well.
Haunted is great i love it.thanks so much for my copy.cant wait for the next book in the ghost house series .I have not yet finished the book but it's really good.
This book was a let down. I waited 2 years for this 2 YEARS! and it was just rushed and didn't make sense really and yeah. It sucks. This book was not what I expected. I thought that Alex had come back to life and would have a really interesting but he was still a ghost, like WHAT!?. Alex also had amnesia and I thought would be an interesting plot line for a good amount of the story but that was resolved in the weirdest way and it didn't even feel believable. Also it was like the same plot but worse? I don't know. It was the same story but through Becky's eyes and all the same people were back. Also it was all very predictable. I saw EVERYTHING coming and the end also did annoy me because no one could catch a break. Also Chloe has some shit friends. They don't care about her AT ALL and only think about themselves. Get new friends girl, they don't care about you. Also this book was way to small. Only 264 pages and it didn't even end. This is a duology and NOTHING got resolved. I hate when this happens.
Ok, I am done ranting. I just had high hopes. I am giving this book three stars though because I didn't hate it. I actually found it very pleasant reading this book and really brought back all the feels. I love the relationship Chloe and Alex have, even though he is dead and they can't really be together. I love the way they are around each other and now strong they make each other. It's really fun reading. I also love the bond Chloe has with her younger brother. They don't hate each other which is rare in young adult books because families are stupid, AM I RIGHT! Heck no. Family matters. I also liked the idea of ghosts in the book and learning about all the limitations and how things can change and the battles. Just an average read for me this one.

Darn it, anyways!! I won this book from ŷ & now I have to go out & find the first novel, "Lament". I thoroughly enjoyed this little book, it was haunting & suspenseful enough to keep me turning the pages to follow the life of Chloe Kennedy! I especially enjoyed her trips in her sleep. This was a fast page turner, held a lot of romance & even humor! I enjoyed this very much!
DNF After how the last one ended, I really wanted to read this one. I wanted to know what happens next and so on, but I didn't like the voice. It is first person, and although it kind of worked with the setting in the first book, it felt off with the atmosphere of this one. I just couldn't get into the main character's voice and her way of acting/ speaking.
I read the first book in the series, had it left me with these questions: 1. Why did Chloe hang out with Natalie and Sam if she didn't like them so much? Still a question for me. They treated her like crap for stupid reasons that didn't make any sense. 2. Why was Isobel a monster in the afterlife when she basically committed all the same "sins" that Alexander did? Was it because she was a woman and had had sex but it's forgivable for Alexander to have sex because he's a man? They both seemed to regret it, so why did they have different fates in the afterlife? This question was addressed in this book that I wish I had seen in the first one: Isobelle practiced witchcraft and did dark things to manipulate people, which she did to the brothers. 3. Why did the grandmother and father just yank both kids out of school to go to England? Doesn't education matter in Chloe's family? Couldn't the grandmother have waited until the break to take them to Hampshire? The kids weren't in any real danger that she had to do that, and she could have asked to have the kids take their mid-terms early and to get their schoolwork for 2 weeks. Sorry, I'm the daughter of a teacher, there was no reason to miss school in my family, even when a family member was on their deathbed. A funeral, yes. Chloe and Rory didn't seem to be in danger at all, just her father was forgetting to pay bills. Was it really a good idea to have him be all alone after his wife died? This wasn't quite addressed, either, but I think that this didn't quite matter. But her father seemed to start moving on, but was still in the grips of depression. 4. What actually killed the mother? I didn't hear it in the audiobook. This was addressed, and it was heart-breaking. The loss of a loving parent is always heartbreaking.
The story came together, and I'm glad. She changed publishers for this series (for whatever reason) and I felt like maybe she was losing her love for writing, especially paranormal, which made her take forever to get this one published, which was why it didn't come out so quickly. I ascribe to Elizabeth Gilbert's Big Magic, as in, you have to nurture creativity, and if you take a break, it'll leave you, and I wondered during the wait, is this what Adornetto is going through? Apparently, there was enough spark there that she was able to finish the book, which the publisher turned into a conclusion to the series.
Personal thoughts: Chloe acted a bit childishly with her father especially. I felt like Zac was a mostly unnecessary character, but maybe I'll see him differently in a re-read (which I don't know if I'll do right away). Natalie and Sam were fairweather friends. The best plutonic friend Chloe had was Zac, though, although I found him a bit boring, yet very convenient since he had a house in Malibu and never put the moves on her even though she was spending the night with him. I will say that I felt like there was some emotional maturing in Adornetto's writing after reading the conclusion (the book blurb on the back said it was the end of the series). Why do I say this? I thought they'd find a way to be together, but I think Adornetto has realized that there were some things that couldn't be in the world she created. Personally, I'd love to see Monica have some gifts of her own in a new novel, like "shifting", or being able to go back to the past and take a person with her, teaching Chloe how to do it, and having Alexander survive in modern day before Carter could kill him, so that he and Chloe could be together, like in the Mediator series by Meg Cabot. I felt bad for the ghost children, because they went from scared, abused, and helpless characters to have pity on to evil little minions at Isobelle's command without a lot of explanation as to why. Why did Chloe and Alexander have to call on their teacher to get them to what they were doing? That seemed a bit cruel to me. I was hoping that whatever vanquished Isobelle took the abusive ghost teacher with her and set the children free to crossover and not be trapped any longer.
Overall, I read these because I like paranormal YA. The ending broke my heart (of course) and it wasn't a happily-ever-after, which I'm accustomed to in YA. There was a shred of hope in the end, which keeps it YA. But it was a surprise for me that this is how the series ended, on such a sad note, that she'd never be reunited with Alexander until death. After I read the Halo series, I expected a HEA, but this wasn't quite it. She gave the impression that Chloe will never have another true love again, which isn't how you want to see people live their lives. This is why I hope that there is a third book in the series and Chloe and Alexander do get their HEA.

I was never a Halo fan- I read it, but didn't enjoy it. So it was good to see Alexandra had improved since the last one. I felt Halo was the sort of book you wrote when you first start out- although I know many who had enjoyed it for that exact reason, so each to their own, I guess. Haunted can actually be read as a stand alone, as one of the helful reviews had kindly pointed our (although it's not recommended since this is not how the author intended for readers to read it), and the reason I say this is bc, again, I failed to noTice this was actually the second book to the Ghost House series. This is not the only time I've gone this so- unfortunately. Dispite this I could easily work out what was happening, thanks to the authors recap, and get an idea, also thanks to the title, about what will be occuring. One thing I did noticed, that sucked me in, was the authors writing, which I liked a lot. This is an author who has potential- I say protential because I think she could have done more. More indepth characters. And felt the most plot driven while I was reading Becky's flashbacks, I felt deeply involved with the characters life even though I was only introduced to it moments later in the book. I actually liked Becky more then Chloe's. Becky was more real to me than chloe was. I was surprised to see, after having these visions that Chloe wasn't upset about seeing an active Isoble and Alexander's love life play out, bc I know I would have been. I do like how this wasn't played up more because that would have been annoying. What I hated about this book was that some charaters felt like they were cookie cutters. For example, Chloes friends, Natalie and Sam, felt like a generic high school friend that you only hung out with because you didn't want to be alone, they never actually added anything or did anything other than become a dead backdrop to Chloes life. And building a more reliable 'friendship' with Zac made it an excuse to add a possible love triangle with her and Alex. So I really don't think the author intended them to be much help, or perhaps they won't really be mentioned in the next book, and they have, instead been replaced with Zac. Okay, so I felt also the need to point this out, it was pretty predictable that Doctor Ritter had something to do with the weird suff going on bc why would he be introduced in such a rememberal way? It was like the author was highlighting this for us- I'm unsure if this was unintentional or not? But it made the end quite flat. I guess I expected more from the ending, at lest from the conclusion of the novel not the series. I wasn't expecting Isoble to die or anything, but I wanted to hear a whole ' why I did this' with doctor Ritter and a massive take down, not a simple pick up gun and shoot this person down. It could have been more creative and original.
As is usual, the story was full of mystery and love and sadness. I wish this was one of those never ending series because I can see how it would be able to continue. I know these are rather tame, however, a part of me wishes that they would have been intimate and by a stroke of magic the Reade family line was continued with the love of Alex and Chloe. That way when Chloe eventually takes over Grange Hall, the Reade Family will once again Reign. Maybe that is when Alex returns. Would this not make for a great third book? I know that it is a bit late, but I am sure it could happen other ways...hint hint... Anyway, I do love this story and am happy to have been able o live in this world for a short time.
Although it was not nearly as transporting as the first novel for me, it was still an excellent book which I had trouble putting down. I loved returning to this world after what has felt like a lifetime of waiting for this novel to come out. It was disappointing that some of the scenes were rushed and that the relationship between Alex and Chloe did not grow or developed more than the condition it ended in in the first novel. I really hope that there is a third book to tie up a few lose ends such as with Becky and her desire to find out more about her abilities. Definitely worth reading. I cried in the end.
I liked the first book well enough. I thought the story was unique, even if sometimes I felt like Chloe was a little immature as a narrator. This second book just felt all over the place. The first book wrapped up pretty nicely before the final pages and the cliffhanger. The events and supernatural things that happened just seemed a little too chaotic and Chloe just deteriorated as a narrator for me. I didn’t really feel like there was much of a character arch in this book like there was in the first book. Overall, I just felt like this book was unnecessary.
This is the second book in the ghost house series. Compared to the first book this one was really lacking plot. The first book was so full of detail and suspense that I couldn't wait to read the next one. So I was kinda disappointed when I was finally able to read it. It was great to see what had after the ending of the first but this one didn't draw me in the same way the first did. There was a lot of hype towards the climax which ended in what felt like one page
Really enjoyed Ghost house, which left us with a cliff hanger! So was very excited when Haunted was finally released! 😉 Haunted is a little predictable in some parts, though filled with a few twists and turns. Ending felt a little incomplete? Or rushed ? Am left a little confused and filled with questions, though in saying that -am hoping this isn't the end of Chole and Alex's story. Good read either way, struggled to put it down. 😁
In this novel, sequel to Lament, Alex Reade has come to the present and finds Chloe Kennedy. All is not well, because Alex has no idea who Chloe is. For her part, Chloe is overjoyed to see Alex again, but fears Isobel Reade might have joined him in the present. Dreams of a young maid take us back to Alex and Isobel and their relationship. There are some pretty intense situations.
I liked the first one a lot better & this one was really short, but I guess it was nice to finally see what happened even if I'm not entirely sure I understand if that was the ending of the entire series or what? It all seemed very rushed for such a small book & not a lot of closure but yet there wasn't really many questions left which is good I suppose.
This book was amazingly written. I loved Alexander Read and the relationship he created with Chloe, Alexander Read had me thinking why there ain't not guys like that anymore. And Chloe was very brave, it was so fun being in her head and seeing her thoughts! Y'all need to read this book if your into mysterious fictional romance!
I really liked the first one. Was excited to get my hands on the second one. Not a fan. Was kinda boring, didn't address some of the leftover questions from the first. The ending was not as dramatic or as interesting as the first. The conclusion seemed sort of abrupt and left questions we will never get answers too. Would reread the first book and pretend this one doesn't exist.
Waited so long for this and was not disappointed. I did expect for it to be a bit longer because she had 4 years to write it but I still loved it a lot. I wish there would be another book but it's okay that there isnt I guess....
This was a great part two book I'm so hoping for a part three, couldn't put the book down, the book flowed very well the details were very believable,a wonderful read
Loved the story. But i felt the ending was a bit rushed.. the climax build up was fantastic, but the ending was a bit disappointing.. but I loved the plot and the way the book is written!
I waited 2 years for this book and the ending had me so annoyed like come on why you have to end it like that, just noooooooooo. Its not that it wasn't a good book don't get me wrong I enjoyed reading it but the ending was not good at all like he leaves. Nope nope nopery nope nope nope. Good book bad ending
