After a fairly short engagement, Cole Morgan and his new werewolf husband, Evan West, decide to elope to London. However, a family tragedy back home soon cuts things short. Evan's grandfather is dead, making Evan the new alpha. Before it's even started, the honeymoon period is over. Evan must not only try to deal with his grief but also tackle all his newfound responsibilities and accept his new role. Cole knew that one day Evan would be the alpha, but he hadn't thought about what that would mean for him and his own role in the pack. With tensions higher than ever before with his own family, and feeling like a constant failure with the pack, Cole finds himself struggling, causing cracks to appear in the couple's new marriage. Cole is sure that they can handle anything as long as they stick together. He just hopes that they can.

I loved this book, too! And I want more. Why? Because this time, I felt like there were too few things happening. See, the blurb promises so many things going awry, but other than the fact that Cole has to handle Evan being away so long, and a little bit where Evan's mom hadn't warmed up to him, there was nothing else. At all. And yes, I am being totally judgemental here, because Cole didn't like when Evan was complaining about him not freaking out over his kidnapping, so why should he expect Evan to admit to feeling overwhelmed?
Also, considering that Evan is the editor of his magazine, can't the author get him to proofread her books? It really irked me, having to read 'then-than' mixups!
4.5 stars rounded up to 5...Ahh man this one started sad. This was just about how Evan and Cole adjusted after Evan's grandfather died. I really hope this isn't the last book in the series. I enjoyed this series. I enjoyed spending time reading it this weekend ;-)
Evan is a control freak of the first order, and when trying to fill his grandfather’s large shoes proves impossible what does Evan do? Does he delegate or ask for help, like a sensible person would? Of course he doesn’t, he is Evan West after all. He is determined to be a good alpha, just like his grandfather, and run all the family businesses, and the magazine, and be married to Cole, who is supposed to be patient and support him at the same time.
Not. Happening.
Cole is as impulsive as ever. He realizes that Evan would become the pack alpha at some point, much later in their lives. But when it happens right after their wedding in London during a business trip the wedding nobody has been told about and interrupts their honeymoon, Cole is at a loss. He feels selfish for wanting to see more of Evan than he does, but only a little. Mostly he has no idea what being a pack alpha means for Evan, or for himself as the alpha’s mate, nor does he understand how families work human or werewolf since he never had one of his own that was worth mentioning. Cole struggles with his role in Evan’s life, the lack of attention from Evan, and the fact that he has no idea how to build relationships with all the people in the pack.
They end up fighting. A lot. Using sex to make up no longer works, and they need to figure out how to deal with the new stress in their lives. Not an easy process, I can tell you that much. Cole is as stubborn as Evan, and the passion they used to pour into physical activities is now devoted to emotional outbursts, fights, and accusations. What a ride!
If you like Cole and Evan and want to see what happens when they get married, if you want to see how Evan deals with a serious loss and how Cole learns about family, and if you’re looking for a read that is as emotionally intense as it is ultimately hopeful, then you will probably enjoy this novella as much as the first two in this series.
NOTE: This book was provided by the author for the purpose of a review on .
Book #3. Werewolf Evan, strong, sexy and gorgeous, loves dear Cole, who's annoying, sarcastic, but a hugable human. The guys marry in London, and Evan's goal is to keep his mate,Cole, safe. In the aftermath of the violent attack, we see therapy, hot lovin' from our sizzling Alpha and enthusiastic Cole. There is more family interactions. I really like our guys; they balance each other, which is wonderful to see. At home, everyone is rocked to hear the sad news. Evan must step up and it's overwhelming. Evan has plenty of pack members to delegate to, but he's not thinking straight yet. There are family issues, and another pack with a conection, plus we see alcoholism, where parts of the abuse/violence are described.
Cole gets himself in trouble over a different case. The bottom line is our men are getting better with each other, this lively episode, and I'm on to the next one ! Each can stand alone. ENJOY !
Gott sei Dank.
I hate to say it, but this is probably my least favorite of the series so far. It was just surprisingly angsty, and I hated the lack of communication between Cole and Evan. Evan was a bit of a jerk, although they both have blame on letting things get the way they were.
This is still a fun series, and I could definitely read more, I think I just enjoyed the last book a bit more than this one.
Cole Morgan and Evan West decide to elope while they are in London, but everything is cut short when Evan’s grandfather dies and Evan becomes the new pack alpha. As Evan deals with his grief, he also assumes to role of alpha. Cole knows as the pack alpha’s mate, there must be certain expectations, but he finds himself unable to fall into his new role. With their marriage cracking, the two must learn to handle all that as well as sticking together.
I enjoy these two together. They are opposites in some way and yet it works for them. Evan got a bit lost for some time, working too hard and trying to do everything. Cole was his usual snarky self but needed Evan to make things perfect. Many things for them to work out newlywed status, changes in the family structure and both taking on new jobs that caused problems Evan as alpha and Cole as alpha mate. A bit sad at times but still fun to read. I hope there will be more in this series.
Cole and Evan decide to elope during a trip to London. Their joyous times turn to sadness when they receive word that Evan's grandfather, their pack Alpha, has died, making Evan the new Alpha. His new responsibilities place strain and difficulties on their relationship, with both of them not handling things as well as they should.
But here's what I really enjoy about all that. Even when the two of them were letting their anger and frustrations get the best of them, it wasn't drawn out to achieve more angst. The two of them, with a little help from others, were able to see their part in the difficulties and worked to come to a compromise. A realistic and healthy relationship, which I so appreciated in the MCs of what book I am reading. Gains are also made with relationships between Evan and Cole and some secondary characters.
Definitely going to read the next book in the series, .
Rating: 4 stars. I want to start off by saying that I read the first book in this series and skipped the second before reading this one. I don't feel like I missed anything by not reading the second book in the series. There were probably one or two events that happened in this that might have been explained in more detail, but really the author gave enough background that it wasn't really necessary. I really liked Evan and Cole as a couple. That being said neither were perfect. I found myself siding with Evan a bit more than Cole in this book. I did like that Cole was very self aware to his own faults. Probably a bit more than Evan. I thought that the conflict in this story was very well done. I would recommend that you at least read the first book in the series before this one. Both were really good.
The book itself was not as dark as I feared after reading the blurb, but overall I'm a bit disappointed. The first two installments felt rounder to me, the writing superior. Even though it was slightly angsty, I liked the story and how it turned out. But there were quite a few things that bothered me. The editing was awful. I often had to reread a sentence, because something was off and I stumbled across words or sentence constructions. Also, there were quite a few repetitions. It was mentioned several times how lucky Cole felt with being with Ethan, since he isn't a great catch and Ethan is such a hot guy or something along those lines. In total, I had the impression that the book was a bit rushed and no one checked it properly, before it was released.
Kind of the typical after tragedy not enough time for your partner. Trying to take on the world instead of letting people in.
Evan tries to run grandpa's businesses, be alpha, run magazine, be a husband. Something is bound to fall by the wayside. Add in the fact that control freak Evan doesn't like Cole discussing their problems with others to make sense of it and you get a volatile relationship going through ups and downs.
Super plus note, I thought the sexual aspects were good, especially the no hands approach. Kind of primal to put your hands up and get to that plateau with no extra help.
Like I already said dor the precedent volume, it's get better! I really loved the characters development and how the author write about the difficulties to live together. a good and pleasant story, hope to read a sequel someday.
This is the third book in the series and goes back to theme of the first book and focuses on the relationship of Cole and Evan, rather than odd subplots from the second book. However, this has the dreaded miscommunication and supporting angst that goes with the territory and it did drag in places.
I wish there had been more page count available to answer much needed questions that in my mind are still hanging around family issues. Overall though, it was an entertaining read with a sweet ending.
