Phenomenal, Christ-Inspired Novel!!

“Pride goes before destruction. How well he knew. But how painful was the lesson. He needed to clear his head and help the other team members before fear overtook and claimed them all.

Mistakes happen, however when that mistake is against the forces of darkness God’s army must listen to the voice of the Elite Commander and not get ahead of His timing. The Emissary has been called back to God’s heart and he knows his job is to train God’s “Precious Team to prepare for the battle against The Lord of the Night and his second in command Apollyon. Truly a battle of good versus evil as 5 Ohio towns must be freed from the forces of evil and restored to the light. The Elite Commander has more to reveal, but not yet. We’ve all heard of the Avengers, superheroes galore, as kids cheer for their favorites. However, one will find, within this novel, these superheroes are more powerful than can be imagined these are the called superheroes of God.

Let me begin by saying if you haven’t read book one of this series stop right now and start at the beginning of this powerful, Christ-packed novel. I found myself not only lost within its pages, but I was born and raised in Ohio so the battles become real and alive for me. Like me, readers will find themselves reading their Bibles and Ohio history as they read this page-turner. When I read book one I felt that it was “Left Behind, “The Screwtape Letters and “This Present Darkness all rolled into one epic novel and my thoughts haven’t changed only intensified. My mind’s eye played the battle scenes, as I read. I sat at the table as the team planned. I was on my knees in prayer with the prayer warriors. In other words, this book is more than engaging it is alive. It is more than fiction it is truth. Yeral has sounded the battle cry. As a Christian, I couldn’t just read, I became a part knowing we are up against the forces of darkness and one cannot read this well-written, God-inspired book and not walk away changed. I for one was blown away and can’t wait for more. If you are a Christian you have to read this phenomenal series!!

The Hero Within series continues with the entry, Power. As with the first, this book still continues the struggle between good and evil, light and dark. The battleground is waged in our world but from spiritual sources. Yeral Ogando continues a pulse-pounding book that has shed some of its more literary roots in the first and embraced more thriller elements and adventure. In some ways, the novel is better served by this and is a much better read than the previous entry. All around, it seems that Ogando has improved upon the first book in the second and continues with another action-packed Christian fiction story.

We follow our heroes from the first book and watch as they become increasingly transformed by the light of Christ and their faith. This series is becoming more apparent as a must-read for Christians of any stripe. The battleground is a few towns in Ohio that have become captured by the Enemy and it is up to our heroes to free them. Ogando writes with crisp, fun prose that it makes this book a no-brainer when it comes to turning the page.

Of course, this is a recommended read to fans of Christian fiction, but if even a casual reader can get through the first book, then Power will be a pleasant surprise, given how much there is to enjoy. There is plenty for the Christian to devour and be utterly edified by prose that engages the Christian tradition, but there is also enough action and story that does not exactly remain Christian enough for the casual reader. The story is still weighed down by a lot of different characters, whom Ogando feels are all necessary even if the reader is not convinced.

When it all comes down to the brass tax, Power is a more than satisfying follow up to Awareness. The real question is if there will be another book in the series, which seems to be the most obvious choice considering the world Ogando has built and the precedent already representative in Christian fiction, such as Ted Dekker’s Circle series.

All I can say is that I hope there is more!

Started Off Well, but Ended Contrived and Poorly Constructed

The book was started off very well like most of the other books in this series, but the last several chapters felt both contrived and poorly constructed. I hope that the next one is better!
