100% Delightful. The tale the grandfather tells the little girl is funny & creative, and the art is appealing and lively. Highly recommended, and definitely not just for classrooms in the southwest. I'm definitely hoping the author wrote or illustrated something else.

The Gullywasher is a heartwarming book about a young girl and her Abuelito (Grandfather). While they take their afternoon walks she asks him to tell her how he got some of his features. He proceeds to delight her with a tall tale of his days as a vaquero (cowboy); specifically, the day the he got
caught in the big gullywasher. I especially liked that this book is written in both English and Spanish and includes a glossary with many Spanish words used in the book to help you follow along. I can relate to the relationship between the grandfather and granddaughter, having spent many of my summers as a child with my grandparents and learning about their history.

I like the Hispanic culture added in the book. My favorite part was when the corn popped in his belly from eating the hot peppers.

I love this book becuase it is bilingual! It starts off with Leticia and her grandfather talking about a storm and the grandfather tells her how he went from a young cowboy to a grandfather.

The illustrations in this book really bring the story alive. It follows a young girl as her grandfather explains how he got his gray hair, big belly and more. I like the Hispanic culture that is tied into the story. It is humorous, creative and very engaging.

A Hispanic grandfather shares a tall tale about his belly and gray hair. It is a story of him becoming an adult. This would be fun to read and ask students to infer, or question; before, during and after.
