Time travel is real . . .

A cave in Eastern Kentucky contains a portal that leads to a hotel in 1950s Paris. A particular prison chamber in the palace of China’s Yongzheng Emperor leads to Manila during the Philippine-American War, and a basement in a 1970s Chicago tenementÌýbuilding will take you directly to the labs of the ISD (Isochronic Securities Department), a top secret branch of the United State Government. Since the early 70s, the ISD has traveled these “tunnels,â€ protecting them from Interlopers—illegal travelers. Molly Gardner, an agent for the ISD, has spent her career tracking illegal travelers. But after encountering a particularly dangerous Interloper, she discovers nothing about her life is as it once seemed.

"Recursion Part 1: Interlopers" is the first in a series of interlocking novellas. Each story will take you to unique settings, time periods, and characters, all centering around Molly Gardner's epic journey to reclaim her fate, a journey spanning over a century, from 1950s Paris to a post-apocalyptic future.

Potential, but missing ends of words and whole words in places let this down.

* I received a free copy of this novel as part of the Dominion Rising launch event on Facebook. This is an honest, unbiased review.*

Phew! I felt breathless after finishing this book!

You jump right into the action from the first page and the furiously fast pace doesn’t let up until the sudden calm of the final, epilogic chapter. This definitely classes as an action thriller as well as a sci-fi.

The sci-fi element is time travel via discovered ‘tunnels. I liked the concept that people discovered such tunnels accidentally during times of extreme duress, as in the case of our main protaganist, Molly, who falls (floats?) through one underwater during a traumatic car accident. I found the idea that the phenomenon is linked to personal emotions rather than just being a scientific/natural occurence.

The story is told in the first person, with flashes back and forward (naturally…time travel!), often punctuated by periods of unconsciousness. Molly is a competent and decisive agent and the reader has automatic trust in her, which is good because you can’t trust any of the other characters! There is plenty of espionage activity here, related to control of the tunnels, although everyone’s motives are still unclear at this point in the wider story arc.

The novel reminded me of the film ‘Inception, in both content and style, especially in the uncertainty about what is real and truly happened, and what is purely in the character’s mind: is she married to James? Does the top fall? There are questions about the nature of our memories and how much we can trust them; the morality of ‘meddling in events that have already happened or are going to; loyalty and how well we can know people

This book sets up the questions, but doesn’t answer many of them, as it is obviously the first in a series that will explore both the technology and the characters shadowed pasts in a future installment. Instead we get a quick guided tour of the factions in play, the technology available, and the issues to be explored, at whirlwind speed, then a pause at the end to catch your breath and regroup before starting Book 2.

If you like your reading to be non-stop action with a sci-fi twist then this is definitely the book for you. Be prepared to read it in one sitting!

What a cool book 1 of a time travel series. It is a thriller full of action scenes mixed in with a mystery. Why does it seem like "they" are chasing Molly. I liked the concept and the writing kept me on my toes. The book ended with enough of a twist that I did not see coming, besides the fact that "they" really were after Molly, that I was left with burning questions. The mythology is set up enough to intrigue me that I want to check out the next book. My honest review is - if you like action thrillers that are full of action and a clean story, check this one out.

A good start to a series with potential. I do think this book was too short to introduce so many characters and concepts. It goes by so fast you don't really have time to get any decent character development or learn much about the story. It would be disappointing if I didn't know there were more books right after and I am hoping the rest of the books have better pacing for the story, which I do feel like sets a good groundwork for an interesting tale.

Kindle Unlmited and about to be released and yes that means got one of my ARCS which is free, early, and don't have to review it but if do then all my own thoughts etcetera and nothing other than book.

TIME TRAVEL IS REAL And more dangerous than ever.

The blurb is close enough to 'spoiler' for my tastes, which is spoiler free, but 5 starts for time travel type story, that's enough to say.

Time travel stories can be tricky but very entertaining series. Although it's just the first part, there's plenty here with strong characters and an interesting story with some very intriguing twists and turns. Time travel elements are well thought through, with some appropriately mind-bending elements that really add a lot.

This book kept me turning pages just to figure out what the heck was going on. I got all the way to the end without ever feeling satisfied. Well written but the plot is convoluted and doesn’t make much sense to me.

Fast-paced, action-packed, and bursting with twists and turns, Recursion features some really fun world-building for what looks to be a great series.

A bit of time travel, a bit slow at times. Not bad.

2 stars. DNF. Short and confusing. Not the plot, the ability of author to describe events; action was lacking

I'm not much of a time travel book reader, so this started out slow for me. I will have to say by the time I read half the book, I could not put it down wanting to know what happens next. We end with back to the beginning in time again. What will happen next? Will Vic and Molly save the world or relive the same world.

I can’t stop thinking about this book and the premise of a recursion in time. Time travel has rarely been explored like this and the time continuum may never be the same. I also feel that the book made some valid inroads to what it means when we experience “bad or “good events and how did those things appear to others? Would you really want to miss out on what came next or could you have the constitution to weather the storm again in anticipation of a better after? This book didn’t leave when I closed the last page, it peers at me through time and memory.

Time travel stories can be tricky to pull off, but Interlopers is a great start to what promises to be a very entertaining series. Although it's just the first part, there's plenty of meat here with strong characters and an interesting story with some very intriguing twists and turns. And the all important time travel elements are well thought through, with some appropriately mind-bending elements that really add a lot.

Walton seems to have put a lot of thought into the world building but everything is backed up with excellent writing and there's a lot of potential for a really cool series of books. Based on the quality of this one, I'd be happy to read a lot more. Definitely looking forward to the next book.
