Picked this up as a free rental on Amazon Prime. The premise being a 16 year old girl moves from Georgia to a small town in Massachusetts and finds out she's a witch. Not only is she a witch but she's actually a demigod, daughter of Apollo. The story is about the Greek gods and their descendants. About 5 kids who are destined to save the world after the Olympian comet imbues them with power over the elements and the ability to stop the Titans from taking over the world once more.

I give the plot and premise a solid 4 stars. It's always entertaining for someone to bring ancient mythology into the present day. The plot moved at a steady pace and didn't lull. There was enough back story and action to keep you moving forward.

For character development I'd say it was a 2-2.5 stars. The main character never fully developed for me. She stayed fairly one note, a good girl who always wanted to do what was right even at the expense of doing something stupid. When it came to saving the world her love for her boyfriend was incredibly selfish. The character that seemed to show the most growth was one of the secondary leads. She went from being a rich, spoiled girl with powers who jealously guarded her boyfriend and fiercely fought for her family, to a more well rounded girl. She was smart, funny, sure she was a bit selfish but she ultimately stopped, thought about the consequences of her actions and really tried to save the world. I liked her best. The lead guy was the typical kind bad boy. He didn't have much depth if you ask me.

Overall I give the series a solid 3 Stars, it's entertaining and fun, just don't expect a lot of character development.

Kindle Unlimited, interesting but then again I do have library/learning knowledge of this type thing, just think that the whole chick/teen angst was too 90210 and detracted from the story.

I'm too adult for this book.

If I read it when I was 12-13, I might have liked it.
Perhaps, perhaps not.
I'm not sure, because this book was very immature, and I read a LOT from a young age and read the same books as my parents, so it might be too immature for me even at that age.

This was a great YA series I truly enjoyed and had a hard time putting down. I’m glad I chose the 5 box series so I could get uninterrupted reading. It was quite a rollercoaster ride watching the kids grow and evolve into becoming an amazing team. This book set had a little bit of everything for anyone reading it. My heart broke at some of their failures and soared when they completed their next step. This set will take you through a plethora of emotions from happiness, shock, betrayal, and yes even grief. I think I most loved their first task visiting the land of the lotus eaters. Each book brought to light something new and many discoveries. The book that was not my fav in the series was the one about Medusa, I guess I’ve never really cared for this Greek Mythology creature. Everyone will have their own perspectives so take time to read and enjoy wether you read it one book at a time or the 5 set series. You won’t regret the time spent in these kids world

What do I think?
I think it is flat.
Too predictable..
I needed more mystery, more power.. more excitement.

It was very difficult to even finish the series.
I stopped 68% through, I just could'nt finish, it was too flat.
I really liked the summary, that's why I choose to read the book in the first place.
I must admit I like the way Danielle turned out to be through the storyline.
She is a badass, but Nicole who is supposed to be a demigod.. mehhh

Definitely a middle grade read. I got about half way through the series and put it down. The love story is cringeworthy and the writing is very simple and predictable, which makes sense for a middle grade book. I didn’t realize it was a middle grade book before starting and just wasn’t the correct audience for the book.

I am not leaving a review for this book because I did not finish it. I found this compendium at a used book store, me loving witches and the claim it was Harry Potter meets Percy Jackson! I was in! But I made it bam out 3 chapters and it is just not for me. It dives straight away into the story- which I actually appreciate but on the other hand it doesn’t really redeem itself it’s rushed, everything. It’s like a really bad citcom episode or soap opera. Scene 1 cuts to classroom. Scene 2 points out the obvious love interest. Description “hot guy no hottest guy. 🤦🏽‍♀ yeah this isn’t going to go well! I’m not going to waste my time.

I really think it could have been a good set of stories.. but by the end..I feel like I wasted my time. The blood and gore was really stupid, it seemed like the author decided to add all that after the fact... it just didn't flow with the story. and a few parts were just repetition and filler...I think Nicole is a whiny, spoiled, selfish baby.... OH poor me!!! I love you. I can't live without you, don't leave me, did he not love me as much as I love him?? She is only a teenager...Really? It was a tad bit overboard! I also think Danielle had more class then Nichole.

I really liked this series, and I read all 5 books in a weekend. So I'm only doing a review as the whole series target than each book separately.

Elementals is a mix of witchcraft, Greek mythology, and teenage angst.

Mild spoilers.

The characters were pretty cookie cutter; new girl, hot popular guy, spoiled rich girl, smart girl best friend, and nerdy sweet guy. These 5 come together under a comet and are imbued by elemental powers. Oh, and they are all descendents of a different Greek god or goddess.

Some of the characters developed better than others, I actually liked the way Danielle developed from in the first book being kind of bratty and using grey energy to the end where she really is friends with everyone, and she gets a special romance arc of her own.

Nicole, our main character, doesn't really grow as a person very much. She hides her magic from her parents, then hides her feelings for the guy, then hides her "extra powers"

I do think some of the story line could have been drawn out more to build the world a bit better, but with each book we learn a little more and by the end, it is actually enough. I would have liked to see more about Jason and Hypatia Wink wink

All in all, though, it's a very well thought out story. The "missions" all make sense in the grand scheme of the story line and the ultimate mission, and I'm excited that she is starting a new series that will happen after this series "Elemental Academy". I can't wait it.

I am almost 70 years old and have read this type of genre off and in all my life. I am absolutely Delighted to have found this amazing author, and her amazing books! What a joy! In a world right now of so much darkness, hurt, racial division, political divide and sickness, I have been able to escape to a wonderful, exciting, and believable world to forget my troubles and worries all because of the imagination and writing talent of this creative artist! Thank you. Thank you for less worrisome nights and days, and providing me with an outlet to be able to insert myself into your stories and ~pretend~ I am actually there, along for the ride! I have now read every single book this lovely author has written and I only hope there are many more coming soon. Again, and from my heart, Thank You. Relieved but also heartbroken.

This series was amazing. It has it all. Love, betrayal, heroism and sacrifice. It was heartbreaking when Chris and Hepathia both died fighting Typhon. Everything was great when they got Kate back and then they had to stop Typhon. The kicker then was either Blake or Danielle had to go to Kerberos to bind the portal to ensure that it was sealed forever. That meant whoever went would be stuck there forever. Hard decisions have to be made and will they be made in time. I highly recommend this book and series.

I am a sucker for greek / roman mythology current-day stories. I felt there was a fair amount of over-simplification of the tasks they need to perform and some SWEEPING promises made that were just asking to be broken. Also, perhaps I'm just old now but who spends time making out with someone when other people are dying (and you have the power to possibly save them)?

As expected

Fun read for when you’re bored. The story line is nothing that hasn’t been done before. Teenagers going on a quest to save the world with some PG love worked in.

One thing I found quite irritating was that at the beginning of each book the previous one is summarized. Other than that it was ok.

Kept me reading till the end

As a teen novel this was a surprisingly good book. There were parts where the ages of the character got irritating due to their behaviors which was made up for the rich involvement of Greek mythology. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fantasy and Greek mythology with a dash of romance.

Elementals, written by Michelle Madow, presents readers with an enticing plot that effortlessly weaves together mystery, romance, and a touch of mythology. While the overall storyline captivates readers and keeps them engaged throughout the series, there is potential for further character development. Additionally, in certain parts of the series, particularly the fourth book, the plot tends to drag unnecessarily, which somewhat detracts from the overall experience.

First and foremost, Madow's ability to construct an intricate and action-packed plot is commendable. The series follows a group of four friends, each representing a different elemental power, who possess the ability to manipulate various elements. The concept is fascinating and provides a fresh take on the paranormal genre. The author succeeds in creating an intricate world where elemental powers exist alongside ordinary human beings, and the dangers and consequences associated with these powers are cleverly explored.

Moreover, Madow has a knack for building suspense and tension throughout the storyline. Each book in the series seamlessly connects to the next, with cliffhangers that leave readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. The well-executed mystery elements keep readers invested and guessing until the very end, with unexpected plot twists adding to the intrigue. The blend of romance and friendship also adds depth to the story, allowing readers to connect emotionally with the characters.

However, where Elementals falls slightly short is in character development. While the plot is engaging, the characters themselves often lack the depth needed to truly connect with readers. Although each character represents a different elemental power and possesses unique attributes, their personalities sometimes feel one-dimensional and predictable. They could benefit from further exploration, allowing readers to delve into their backgrounds, motivations, and personal growth. Developing the characters more vibrantly would enhance the overall reading experience and make the plot even more impactful.

Another aspect to address is the occasional pacing issues that arise in the series, particularly in the fourth book. At times, the plot seems to meander along unnecessarily, and certain events feel stretched out beyond what is essential to the development of the story. This slower pace may cause frustration for readers seeking resolution or more rapid advancement of the storyline. While a thorough exploration of subplots can breathe life into a narrative, too much can detract from the overall momentum.

In conclusion, Elementals by Michelle Madow stands out for its enthralling and imaginative plot, filled with mystery and romance. The concept of elemental powers beautifully intertwines with ordinary life, creating a unique and compelling world. However, the characters would benefit from deeper development to establish a more profound and lasting connection with readers. Additionally, in certain parts of the series, particularly in the fourth book, the pacing felt unnecessarily prolonged. Despite these areas for improvement, Madow's series still manages to leave readers eager for more.

I enjoyed this book, a lot of different things going on , I loved the very beginning of the book when Nicole gets her schedule and sees that she is honors classes and tells the front office that there had to be a mistake. The lady said come back at the end of the day and we will fix it.
The expression in her face was priceless when she went to her classroom, the way Michelle Madow writes her books the characters come alive, it's like you are there in the story with her.
This series is a page turner and if I didn't have to prepare our house for Hurricane Irma then I would of been done reading this a lot sooner!!!

I hope there are other spin off books to this series or continuations one with Danielle , and one with Blake and Nicole. I was hoping to see or read about Nicole coming home, or hear about her adventures with Erebus. And for Nicole and Blake ~ I would of loved to have read a little more about there relationship, and her family... and how Apollo and her were getting along, did she finally get to have her talk with him ?!? Did she finally tell her mom Abbott her bio-dad?!?! I was also hoping that they might have found a way to bring Chris back since his soul was in the Underworld, because of all the sacrifices they made to save the world, if there was a way to restore him, so that Kate could live happily ever after, maybe he could come back as a god, since Kate is a goddess. That would make sense.... ♥️❤️😍♥️💙 True love always wins in the end!!!

Other than that this was amazing-- well I'm off to read "Elementals: The Wrath of the Fury"
Let's see what happens here !!! Hopefully, some of my questions may even be answered and then I will need to re edit this post !!!

Witches, Magic and Greek Mythology Come to Life in This Awesome Series

Nicole thinks she is a normal teenage girl until she moves to a new town and discovers that she is a witch descended from gods. Luckily, her powers emerge along with a small group of four others, who call themselves the Elementals. They soon discover a new magical world, that, unfortunately, also has a dangerous prison world of Kerberos that contains a lot of very dangerous monsters. The Elementals find an ancient prophecy to save the world and end up going on the ultimate scavenger hunt type of adventures. Each of the Elementals has a unique power and Nicole’s power to heal holds a much darker side that she hope she never has to use.

As the veil to the portal to Kerberos begins to weaken, the Elementals rush to fulfill the ancient prophecy and save the world. Throughout the five books, they fight drugged up islanders, sea monsters, lotus-zombies, Medusa, Hydra and many, many other dangerous, yet interesting, monsters. They also have typical teenage battles between the group (Blake used to date Danielle, but is now interested in Nicole) while battling their typical young adult, roller-coaster emotions. As they get stronger as a group, learn to work together, get a little help from the Gods, they take on battles that no mortal could win, let alone survive.

I devoured this series in one day (yes, all five books) as I was home sick in bed and needed something to make me feel better and all five books are an easy read. I could not get enough of this series. It has Greek mythology, lots of action, typical teenage angst, and a sweet romance as Nicole falls for bad-boy Blake, another Elemental. Kerberos is a fascinating, amazingly well described dark world. Even though the characters are messy teenagers with lots of young adult emotions, I truly cared about them, especially as a group, wanted them to succeed in their mission, and wanted to know what happened in the next book. Thankfully, Elementals 5: The Hands of Time, brings the series to an exciting, action-packed conclusion. Appropriate for young adults and up! I highly recommend this enjoyable series!

Not for me

I only read the first four or five chapters of the first book and not sure what it is but I can’t get into it. Given the synopsis, it seems like a series I’d like, but

The writing isn’t bad, per say. A little bland maybe. I dare say amateurish in style? Perhaps that’s the problem. There’s nothing about it that grabs my attention and holds it. It’s also written in first person perspective, which is far from my favorite because it’s a difficult perspective to write and there are very few authors who can pull it off well. In my experience, badly written first POV can seriously ruin an otherwise good story.

The plot so far is also amateurish and cookie-cutter predictable. New girl moves to town. Goes to new high school. Finds out she has special powers she had no idea she possessed and is descended from the gods. Girl meets “bad boy at the same time. Girl warned to stay away from boy. Girl of course ignores warning. Pretty sure the girlfriend will find out the next chapter or two and issue her predictable stay-away-from-him-or-else warnings which will also be ignored. Main character will probably spend most of the series in-between actual plot lamenting about how hot boy is but he’s dangerous and she should stay away, but he’s SO HOT so she’s drawn to him so she can’t stay away

Honestly, it feels like Twilight crossed with Percy Jackson or something. I’d use character names here except I can’t even remember any of them, and there’s only been like three of them introduced so far.

At any rate, if you like Twilight, or Percy Jackson, or pretty much any of series in the YA supernatural fantasy genre, you might enjoy this series. Just be warned that it gets off to a slow and predictable start and there is so far nothing about it that sets it apart from any other series already published. Good luck.

Honestly? The book was just MEH for me. There wasn’t ANYTHING inherently wrong with it, but it fell short and felt flat to me. And I can’t even put my finger on why. Maybe just not enough emotional depth to any of the characters? Also, not REALLY enough mystery to keep up any suspense and keep the reader engaged. Not sure. But if you agree, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The relationship with Nicole and Blake was just bland. I didn’t feel ANY of it. Ever. And despite the fact that there were some losses (for lack of a spoiler), I just didn’t care. :-/ I guess I never felt connected to ANY of the characters. With the exception of the following...

Although I didn’t like Danielle in the beginning because we were supposed to identify with Nicole and because she was kind of nasty, snarky, possessive and rude to Nicole, she honestly didn’t do anything that some other ‘strong heroines do in other YA novels. Over time, she became one of the strongest characters. She was the only one who didn’t impetuously run into things. She wasn’t a whiny cry-baby. And she was STRONG. My favorite part of all 5 books? Her & Erebus in book 4. (I’d love to see a novella from Danielle’s POV starting from Kerberos to the end of book 5...and beyond.)

Also, the epilogue for book 5 was kind of lame. I mean...I like that it was there. I get why the author did that. She was trying to tie up loose ends and what-not. But like everything else, it fell flat. She was almost trying to force an emotional reaction/satisfaction that I just wasn’t feeling.

Recommendation: Go ahead and read it, but know it won’t knock your socks off.

Read this series a while ago and forgot how much I enjoyed the series till last night. Okay you caught me this morning (were in quarantine I can’t sleep so trying to find books).

I loved this series as a whole and would recommend to anyone who enjoys young adult supernatural fantasy genres.

I 1000% recommend the series though it’s not one of the best ones I’ve read. However it is definitely up there for me. It was so different and refreshing when I read it. I hadn’t read many books, if any that are similar to this one.

The series as a whole keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are many twists and turns and your always wondering what’s going to happen next. You start liking some characters you hated at the start and as the series progress you learn to love them and see yourself in them. There’s moments where you want to cry and laugh along with your favourite characters as well.

*Trigger Warning: Self Harm (sh)*

I travel a lot for work and was able to listen to this whole series on Audible!

I really enjoyed the storyline as it was very interesting to delve into the world of Greek mythology! While the plot was interesting and moved quickly throughout the books, I agree with other readers that the character development was lacking.

Another thing to note is that there are some parts in each book that could be triggering for readers who struggle with sh. I am someone who struggles with sh and some parts were hard to read and I definitely had to stop listening and slowly go back to it.

I am not the type of person to leave reviews for anything, but I felt like I had to add this for others who are struggling.

Overall, I would like to see what happens next in the story with a series picking back up from the end of the last book with new character perspectives along with the continuation of the 5 elementals young adult storylines!

Much as I wanted to get into the story, the constant breaks with super short paragraphs and chapters just proved to be distracting. The whole five books was a very fast read but for me it felt like it was because there wasn’t much on the page to connect with, allowing me to just flip through the story quickly. Sadly, felt more like a children’s book than a young adult one because of it.

I did recommend the series as I enjoy the concept of elemental magic and was interested enough in the general world to see how the whole story played out. I liked the use of Greek myths to build a background and “correcting a few of the tales to bring them into the history needed for this world. Overall, the idea is a good one, but unfortunately it was only the idea of the world that kept me engaged.

I had a fantastic time reading this series. It would be perfect for anyone who loves zero profanity, adventure, and Greek mythology? I also liked that not everything works out perfectly, the characters make mistakes along the way, just like any other normal human being. These young adults/kids are a mixed group thrown together by fate to stop monsters, mythical beasts and the Titans from being released from another dimension. All the characters have realistic fears and emotions as they travel along from adventure to adventure. It is easy to get sucked into this story line and hard to break away; I finished this series in four sittings. (Had to snow blow the driveway some time during daylight hours!)

All the feels

This series will make you laugh, make you cry, make you mad and make you reflect. Lots of greet life lessons in this crazy journey. Would classify this as a young adult series. This crew goes that help and back literally and not all will make it home the same.
Nicole, Blake, Kate, Chris, and Danielle are witches chosen by the gods to undertake an insane mission to close a portal monsters are escaping to Earth. It's and singing task for high school kids who just came into their new powers in the same week the portal weakened. Lots of challenges, fights, quests. There is an HEA, but not for all of them. It was hard won and caused huge sacrifices. You will cheer them on, but this book will also break your heart. Worth it, great read.

Pretty darn good!!!

I have now read almost all of Michelle Madow's books. I have really enjoyed them. She puts a different twist on her stories and characters. She lets the good guys do bad stuff and the bad guys do good stuff. I like the way her stories flow. I'd have given a 4.5 stars if I could. I'm a slow reader, so I catch mistakes. So Michelle, since you use some words a lot, I would like to see them corrected in your fall 2020 series. Past tense and participle are sometimes wrong: shined should be shone, kneeled should be knelt. And doesn't Nicole have blond hair? Michael Anderle spoiled me with his covers matching the story. Otherwise, you have written some pretty darn good stories. Thank you Michelle!!😉🤗

A thrilling blend of magic, mythology, and young adult adventure, Elementals combines the charm of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson into a fast-paced series. Nicole Cassidy’s journey from a nervous high schooler to discovering her Greek god lineage is filled with engaging twists and relatable characters.

The Olympian Comet adds urgency and danger, while the prophecy-driven plot keeps the stakes high. Romantic tension and intricate relationships, especially between Nicole, Blake, and Danielle, add a layer of drama.

Although some elements feel predictable, the rich mythology and captivating pacing make this series hard to put down. A perfect binge-read for fans of magical adventures with a touch of romance.
