The book is more of a journey the author takes us on along with his psychiatrist, a journey into the depths of beautiful Africa and the depths of the human soul. A number of themes intermingle in the book, presenting a distinguished picture of life in Africa: the struggle between the whites and the original inhabitants of the continents, the injustices the latter suffered from, the destiny awaiting those who try to stand up for justice. The book also tackles the theme of hereditary doom as it depicts the misery inflicted upon those who are born to a white father and a black mother, and in so doing, it gives a detailed picture of how white immigrants viewed African women as mere sex objects whose bodies they colonized just like they colonized their land. It's a story about humanity vs its enemies.
