Hugo Huesca is a science fiction and fantasy writer. He has been reading avidly for the better part of two decades and writing fiction since he was ten. He is a swimmer, a tequila drinker and a fanatic of ridiculous science fiction book covers from fifty years ago.
Some quotes on Hugo Huesca from those who know him:
"Are you rich yet?" A family member, one day after Hugo self-published his first short story ever. (The answer is no.)
"He's the devil." A College professor.
"What do you mean there were TWO dragons?" His D&D group before a TPK.
"What are you doing in my house? No, I'm not giving you a quote for your biography, please leave before I call the police." Some random person.
To be honest not my favorite in the series. I was expecting so much after the second book and probably had very high expectations. It is still good, the author is a very gifted story teller. I again finished this one in one day, just couldn't stop turning the pages. To anyone that hasn't read the two previous books I highly recommend you to go and read them, they are amazing.
SPOILER ALERT
Now, my issues for this book is that I expected so much more to happen after the ending of the second one. The idea of a translation mechanism between two civilizations and the mysterious message from the alien one left me wanting for so much more. However, the book quickly deviates from this storyline and goes into a version of The Matrix 3 ( probably my least favorite in the series) and then provides an ending similar to the epilogue of Harry Potter (that which should not have been written). However, from the three books in the series, I feel this may have had some of the most entertaining scenes. The fights are so well documented that I could perfectly picture what was going on to an incredible level of detail. The descriptions and attention to detail was outstanding, just enough for me to picture the scene but not oversaturated by ineffective repetitions pretending to be Tolkien (cough cough George R. R. Martin). To summarize, it is a very well written sci-fi book with a little less inventive and satisfying story as the ones from the first two books. You would be mad not to read it.
I thought I was loving the book but that last chapter had me tearing up and smiling so hard my face hurts. Well done Hugo, I'm excited to read more Rune OR a new story from you. Can't wait!
