To support the broadening spectrum of project delivery approaches, PMI is offering A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) Sixth Edition as a bundle with its latest, the Agile Practice Guide . The PMBOK® Guide Sixth Edition now contains detailed information about agile; while the Agile Practice Guide , created in partnership with Agile Alliance®, serves as a bridge to connect waterfall and agile. Together they are a powerful tool for project managers.
A dry book that presented valuable information, that it contains, in the worst possible structure. I was obliged to read it for the usage in my work. Some others I know are reading it for the certification. If you want to just get the basics of project management only look for other books not that one.
This is awesome book I've ever read to get many knowledge from fundamentals to advances in Project Management. With enrolling to the specialization "Introduction to Project Management Principles and Practices" on , I also got more useful case studies as well as great links and materials from these courses... to consolidate great knowledge what I got from this book.
Totally recommend. You just need to fight through the sleep it induces and it being poorly written and structured. Definitely the most boring book ever but full of gems.
That's right! For the first time, the PMBOK contains information about Agile approaches to project management. The PMP exam is also being updated Q1 2018.
The first three sections include some new information about tying projects to the organization's greater strategy.
There's a new chapter about the role of the PM.
PI(ntegration)M --> New process "Manage project knowledge" PS(cope)M --> Talk about relationship between PM and business analyst PQ(uality)M --> Replaced "Perform Quality Assurance" with "Manage Quality"
PC(omm)M --> difference between communication and communications PRM --> Lots of changes. Addressing overall project risks not only event-driven risks. Added new risk response called "escalate"
Project procurement management --> More international based Project stakeholder management --> Shifted view from stakeholder management to stakeholder engagement.
A good guide that works as a textbook base for project management a lot of useful information and technic that define project management as a scientific method rather than a tacit knowledge that can only be taught through experience.
However, these technics and knowledge are surrounded by tons of unuseful nonsense that increased the number of pages to the double. Also, there is a lot of repetitive statement and information.
- The book is a good guide forbest project management processes and practices.
- It contains a hude compressed data spread along 13 chapters, each represent a separate major field of knowledge that has lot of sub branches and applications.
- It is a real nightmare to remember all of that and keep them in mind till the exam moment.
- Unless I had to attend the exam, I will never ever thajbk to read it.
This information is useful. It is very dry. The PMP exam changed format earlier this year and used this 6th edition as the textbook. The material included in the exam prep materials provided by PMI was organized in a more intuitive manner (according to how the exam is organized as opposed to the linear style shown in this book). Overall, this is dry, but it tells you what you need for the exam.
It is a perfect book for someone who is preparing for the PMP examination. It gives you clarity on the fundamentals of project management but has repetitive issues in some topics. You may find it very hard to read as there is more technical and dry information. It will be hard for any beginner to remember all you read in this book and may only come in handy for the management examination. You will find it to be an ample source of knowledge for management, but due to complicated and methodical explanations without links, it is a tough read.
This is a reference book. It is meant to be used as a tool for the PMP exam and nothing more. I recommend reading the Kim H. study guide with the Pmbok. She does a great job of connecting the dots. Other study guides are the pmbok with a couple of examples. I only rate it 4 stars because some material that may be on the exam is not in the pmbok. Nothing to cause concern.
Read this for my Fundamentals of Project Management class. Good book, full of insightful information. Does get slightly repetitive, but it is more of technical guide than anything else, so I can forgive it for that. Definitely recommended for anyone who is interested in Project Management as a career or as a new endeavor in their current employment.
I read it to take my exam, I'm counting it! Good source for quick look ups and overviews of "official" project management practices. Great study tool. It remains to be seen how much I reference it in the future since real world practices can deviate (and that's OK) from the standard.
It’s an educational read. Details all concepts clearly, has an abundance of appendices, references, and glossaries and great if you need something to refer back to. Read this 6th edition in preparation for my PMP exam on 9/28/19.
It is the book on which the PMP certification is based, it is very complicated to read because of how the chapters are described. Very methodical but without links. A book to study, but not enjoying while you read it.
When doing the PMP exam, you HAVE to read the PMBOK, but I strongly recommend using other sources as well! Thinking that this book alone would bring you through the exam successfully might be a mistake.
Read it once, skimmed it a second time, used some study guides, took some practice exams and passed my Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification Exam! Happy to put this well-worn hefty book on my shelf for future reference.
The information is valuable, but the presentation is extremely repetitive because of how the inputs, tools & techniques, and outputs are detailed for every knowledge area. Learning to skim past the repetitive content is essential for gleaning the takeaways.
Fantastic source of information, but very dry reading material. I may have fallen asleep…several times…while studying. Best used as a reference in conjunction with an online training program.
I read the PMBOK 6th Edition without the Agile guide. The book could be 3/5 as long and provide a more succinct description of Project Management. It also has a few typos. It hammered home that I need to compartmentalize projects and have a time horizon for the implementation of many processes. I would not suggest this book to others for learning.
