Great, great book! I was truly willing to read the English version and I could finally find one. The author wrote in a way that the reader becomes more and more enthusiastic to read the book to the end. The language is awesome and explanations are easy to understand. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a good way of learning about sociology.
There were parts of this book that I thoroughly enjoyed, and parts that I actually despised. Joel Charon seems to have many good ideas, but in my opinion can get a bit egotistical at times in his writing, which tends to throw me off. The section about human freedoms is worth a read.
I'm so grateful to have read this book, Charon has opened my eyes to the study of societies. He delves into the concept of socialization, social trends surrounding religion, the impact of an individual and many more interesting topics I hope to explore further. Charon is an eloquent writer presenting complex ideas in accessible ways. I definitely recommend this book to those looking to learn more about the construction of the world around us and our inner biases.
Very interesting way of covering such questions as is organized religion necessary in society, is deviance necessarily deviant, and so on. Wonderful author.
