The king of rock-and-roll's #1 hit song "Love Me Tender" is now an endearing picture book,
Adapted from the unforgettable classic song, Elvis Presley's Love MeTender is a heartwarming ode to the special bond between children and the adults who love and care for them--be they parents, grandparents, adoptive parents, aunts, uncles, or guardians. With its simple, timeless message, Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender is destined to join Guess How Much I Love You as a baby shower staple. And the sweet, inclusive illustrations make it a book every family will treasure "all through the years, 'till the end of time."
Elvis Aaron Presley was an American singer, musician and actor. He is a cultural icon, often known as "The King of Rock 'n' Roll", or simply "The King".
Presley began his career as one of the first performers of rockabilly, an uptempo fusion of country and rhythm and blues with a strong back beat. His novel versions of existing songs, mixing "black" and "white" sounds, made him popular—and controversial—as did his uninhibited stage and television performances. He recorded songs in the rock and roll genre, with tracks like "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock" later embodying the style. Presley had a versatile voice and had unusually wide success encompassing other genres, including gospel, blues, ballads and pop. To date, he is the only performer to have been inducted into four music halls of fame.
In the 1960s, Presley made the majority of his thirty-three movies—mainly poorly reviewed musicals. In 1968, he returned to live music in a television special and thereafter performed across the U.S., notably in Las Vegas. Throughout his career, he set records for concert attendance, television ratings and recordings sales. He is one of the best-selling and most influential artists in the history of popular music. Health problems plagued Presley in later life which, coupled with a punishing tour schedule and addiction to prescription medication, led to his premature death at age 42.
Oh, this book was adorable. The words from the Elvis Presley song are beautifully paired up with lively, sweet illustrations of babies and young children with their mothers and fathers, and with siblings. The families are traditional mom and dad and a two mom family, an interracial couple, and the people have some racial diversity. The story, which consists of the song lyrics, is simple, with short sentences and a little repetition.
I liked the details in the illustration which may appeal more to the adults than the children. For instance, the school is named Graceland Preschool. On another page, there's an actual record player and you see a cover of one of Elvis's albums. While the children won't get those details, they'll appreciate the cute pictures depictions of daily life.
"Love Me Tender" was a cute, sweet book that works well with the song it's paired with.
In 2017, the fortieth year since Elvis Presley's sudden passing, two illustrators each released a picture book version of the Elvis song "Love Me Tender" from the 1956 movie of the same name. In this version, illustrator Stephanie Graegin frames the lyrics not as a romantic love song, but one of family devotion for a newborn baby as it grows.
Seeing your baby for the first time is a revelation. You burp the infant as needed, read to him or her, feed and play with the child. Enjoying nature together is a nice way to decompress, and by the time the baby has its first birthday you'll feel you've been together forever. Through activities practical or whimsical, and all seasons of the year, a consistent loving relationship keeps the child's feet on the ground so he or she is confident venturing out and discovering life.
Love is best conveyed through actions. It's more important to behave in loving ways than express lovely sentiments, but when carefully crafted words support one's actions to affirm love, they are a blessing. The recipient of eloquently declared love has those words as reminder of precisely what they mean to that person. It's a gift from the heart and mind, and "Love Me Tender" is a shining example.
The version of the song in this book has a different ending than most people know, but Stephanie Graegin's cute, warm illustrations depict the love of parent and child to exquisite effect. I appreciate the various Elvis "Easter eggs" hidden in the pictures, such as the children being dropped off at Graceland Preschool, and the endnote from Priscilla Presley is a perfect fit. I believe Elvis would be happy to see his music used as it is in this book. I hope it ends up in the hands of many parents and children.
Sweet idea with using the words to Elvis “Love Me Tender to illustrate the love and bond between children and their families. I like the progression of the book, showing the children as they age from newborn to preschool age (and attend Graceland Preschool). However, the book is nothing special, and I think the true sincerity of the lyrics are somewhat lost in attempt to apply it to parents and children. Also not a fan of the book’s attempt to be so inclusive with the illustration of a same-sex couple. I’m not for normalizing that structure in the minds of children.
This is such a lovely lullabye book for babies/a baby rhyme time. I think it could work well for an individual night-time read or a rocking song for (*not wound up) babies. The diversity shown in the families is really wonderful!
This children's book takes the lyrics to a time-honored Elvis Presley song and sets it to beautiful illustrations. They include all types of families giving love to children from birth to preschool. The Elvis Presley album photos, the old record player, and the name of the preschool (Graceland) will appeal to Elvis fans. Overall, a darling little book.
The song “Love Me Tender always made me think of love between two adults. What a narrow view I’ve had! I never thought about the lyrics geared toward your child, but it makes perfect sense. And when you read the lyric as a love for children, the song becomes even sweeter, lovelier.
What a perfect combination of song, illustrations and sentiment. Such a delicate, heart-warming book! I think it’s make me a great gift for parents-to-be.
Lovely book that shows all differnt kinds of families and the special place a baby/child has in their hearts. I'm not a huge Elvis fan, but I was able to sing this (in my head) the whole way through.
Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender takes a playful spin on Presley's Original song from 1956. Much like the hit song, this book focuses on loving someone else deeply. In the book, however, the author shifts the meaning towards a relationship between a child and their parent.
The imagery in the book is what portrays the theme of the story since the words are exactly the same as the song lyrics. The theme of the song/book is that love is unconditional when it's sincere and mutual.
When I read this book I remembered back to when I was a little girl and dancing to this song with my dad growing up.
I highly recommend this book to parents that want to incorporate music into reading. I think the illustrator does a great job of including a child's perspective on the lyrics and making the story interactive. Great book and a fun read!
This beautiful book will warm your heart. It matches lovely pictures with the powerful lyrics of LOVE ME TENDER by Elvis Presley. (There is also an edition of this book in Spanish.) Priscilla Presley has authored an endnote and I like this sentence: "The lyrics to 'LOVE ME TENDER' are simple but timeless, and I hope they will resonate with people of every culture and race, and from every country."
Note: my edition is a hardcover sent by the publisher.
The only good thing I can say about this book is the illustrations show multicultural families. Includes message from Priscilla Presley, but I'm missing the connection between the song Elvis sang and the images in the book. They are two different 'stories' for me!
Kids born at the same hospital are raised by different families: same-sex parents, straight-parents, multi-racial parents, families with siblings... It's simply all about love. Elvis Presley's lyrics are teamed with colorful illustrations, to make it a very soothing and pleasant book to read.
The song Love Me Tender is intended as a romantic love song, but it more-or-less works as a song from a parent to a child. The book has some diversity in families.
Normally I wouldn't put a kids book on my books I've read, but as a fan of Elvis, I thought this was a very cute book when I read it to my granddaughter.
I cried during this book. I of course already know the lyrics but this is the first book I've ever seen that included a lesbian family on almost every page.
Original summary This book was created using the lyrics of Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender, illustrated to depict the bond and unconditional love between a family and their children.
Original review This book is cute and the illustrations really capture the sentiment of the song.
1-2 possible in-class uses This book can be used around Thankgiving where children can be told to write three reasons why they are thankful for their family. This book can also be used to teach the concept of love and have children write a song about what they love.
