He’s That Guy.

You know, the hero in almost every romance novel.

The super-rich, powerful CEO who is beyond sexy. Lives in a penthouse. Is wicked in bed. Has massive…feet. Is kind of a jerk, but really he’s not because he harbors some major secret that, once revealed, explains why he is the way he is—therefore completely redeeming himself and making all the readers who hated to love him swoon.

Yeah. That one.

Well, I found him.

I’m a writer who has spent years searching for the perfect muse.

Now that I know he exists, I have a mission.

To make him fall in love with me.

This should be easy. I mean, I have issues, but above all, I’m a great catch.

Problem is, I did a stupid thing.

And now he hates me.

Unfortunately for him, he’s my That Guy.

And he’s going to love me.

I was asked to read this book by the author who paid me seven goats to blurb it. One of the goats died during shipment and the other six goats arrived as cats. I explained to Kim that she sent cats, not goats, but she said cats were what we agreed on and she can’t help it if I can’t spell “cats right and spelled it g-o-a-t instead.
I kind of feel like I got cheated for the blurb on this book, but I read the book anyway and, while it was funny, I couldn’t help but be distracted by the thought of the six cats that I thought were going to be goats. It made me recall a story my son told me recently. He said there’s this certain type of ELK that is extinct. I think it was the IRISH ELK. Anyway, scientists somehow extracted its D.N.A. so they could clone it. The first cloning attempt was unsuccessful (they put the fertilized egg inside a goat, which is how this story relates to this review, if you’re wondering) but the second cloning attempt was successful. The baby ELK that was previously extinct was born and lived for seven minutes. But then it died, making that ELK the first animal in history to go extinct TWICE.
Think about that.
Five stars.

Crazy, funny, hilarious, but very pathetic heroine with a mega crush on an OTT manwhore male protagonist, who was comfortable and happy enough to use high-class escort to fulfill his sexual needs.

I should have stopped when he treated her like his usual companion or the 1st time they had unprotected sex, but I managed to finish so I could fair-minded rate this book.

I think, that it’s still possible to be sassy, funny girl and have some self-respect and dignity!
It wasn't the case here. Just saying

Someone please ban the phrase "That Guy" from the romance genre asap.

Did I drink resting-bitch-face juice? Did someone shove a stick up my ass? Did I get out of bed on the wrong side? The possibilities are endless. But I just didn't think this book was funny.

Maybe it started already cringy, because "dog shit" was mentioned 6 times just one the first page in different variations and I just wanted to never hear "dog shit" ever again.

More than that I couldn't stand Penelope in the first 20% of the book. It's one thing to take a car ride, because someone mistakes you for someone else. But then go as far as staying at someone's apartment and touching everything, because again the concierge thought you were someone else. No way. I felt it was such a violation of privacy when Penelope was at Jake's apartment, sniffing his clothes, wearing his clothes, jumping on his bed, using his Jacuzzi, going through every room like she has the right. And then she has the audacity to say "You know, I'd be happy to stay for dinner." when Jake tells her to "Get out." Like wtf? Ma'am is your head alright??? That was so creepy and made ma queasy af, imagine I come home in the middle of the night and find some random guy sniffling through my clothes. CALL 1-800-RESTRAINING-ORDER!

After that stunt, I just couldn't find anything Penelope said funny at all, because I was so deep in the 'Anti-Penelope' camp, but she wormed her way slowly like snail-pace slowly into my heart with her quirkiness. Pen's quest for revenge on behalf of her best friend Emily was on of the points that made me like her. If your best friend doesn't collect dog shit to set it on fire infront of your cheating ex-boyfriend's porch, is it really your best friend then? In this house we stan this kind of behaviour (not the breaking-into-a-stranger-apartment-and-touching-everything behavior, THAT we're going to erase).

I love how quickly Penelope bonded with Jake's grandfather at his retirement party. Her friendship with Cam, Jake's best friend, was also one of my highlights. And Jake, well he was alright I guess. I wished he had more of a personality. All I know is that Jake is the CEO of Swagger Corp, that he buys ideas from other people, respects his grandfather and that's about it. Does he have a past? A future? Parents maybe??? It's like Kim Jones put all her energy in writing Penelope's over the top personality, that she didn't have anything left for Jake.

The romance between Jake and Penelope was not good and not bad, but there was no depth. Their bonding time was to play hide salami all the time. All their conversation are about how weird Penelope is. But they had some very cute scenes together like the time Penelope had a full on panic attack in the elevator when it stopped and Jake had to rescue her.

Now, where is the Cam and Emily novel???

As far as ‘poking fun at romance tropes goes, That Guy did it with flying colors. Well, to some extent. The humor was belly laugh tear inducing kind of hilarious, but it was also a little over the top. It was like the book was trying to be funny all throughout, and sometimes it just didn’t work.

One of the reasons I didn’t rate the book higher was the heroine. I loved her bubbly and charming personality. But she had this innocence about her that instead of coming off as cute or endearing, to me she just seemed naive and immature. The lack of clarity in her career or her life outside this guy also didn’t earn her any points.

The romance was believable but insta lovey? Considering the time the main leads spent together. It was also (surprisingly) very steamy. I actually really liked the beginning when Jake was being all pissed off at Penelope. Then the sexcapades happened that it became pretty much all they did. It was hot until it was just *yawn* and *eye roll*.

I loved all the scenes that happened outside the confines of Jake’s penthouse. Unfortunately, I don’t think there were enough of them. In any case, if you’re looking for a book to make you laugh with not much else going on in the romance department beyond the standard expectation, trust that That Guy will deliver.

Still processing.. but the takeaway from this book is that, humour can only get you that far if you don’t have a strong storyline to back it all up.

I feel like it’s a 4 stars for witty, funny one liners and crazy ass antics but story and romance wise it was underwhelming..

I didn’t care for the romance, as for the plot, after the initial unorthodox introduction there wasn’t anything exciting happening.

Oh, also, the sex talk was kinda cringey, I guess I couldn’t picture Jake saying all that, it came out funny.. but not in a genuine funny way, more like awkward funny.

And Jake, he was bland.. I liked Cam more since he seemed to have a personality.

Lastly, the whole reference to romance novel heroines and heroes got old and stopped being funny halfway through the book.

I guess I can understand what the writer tried to do but in my opinion it failed.. BIG TIME. It’s a shame because it started great, and although the heroine seemed kinda neurotic and just too much.. I liked her.

Overall, I’d say this book failed to deliver to its full potential. I started skimming at a certain point because it was.. just uninteresting.

5+ STARS!!
"That mouth of yours, Penelope Hart, will be my demise."
Yeah, you read that right . . . 5+ STARS!! I'm not even going to pretend to be embarrassed that I LOVED this book so much.

Truly, this is a MUST READ for all lovers of romance and satire.

Why, you ask? Because it pokes fun at every cliché known to contemporary romance. It was a TOTAL RIOT. Then, add a pinch of depth and emotion to the humor and Voila! there was MAGIC.

So, any attempts to explain the plot would be pointless . . . you wouldn't believe me anyway, LOL. Just know that A) the set up for these two characters to find each other was solid, if not completely believable, and B) almost every page will have you in stitches.

Penelope Hart was a FABULOUS heroine. She was sweet, genuine, delightfully trashy, and above all, just a bit cracked. Her inner thoughts kept me entertained like you wouldn't believe...
They don't have chicken wings.
They don't have cocktail weenies.
No cheeseball.
No chips and dip.
Not a single fucking thing wrapped in bacon.
What kind of party is this?
Experiencing her go head-to-head with our ultra-rich, cocky, alpha CEO hero Jake Swagger was so much fun. Penelope, who's a romance writer, thinks she's found her muse in Jake and the way she kept expecting him to be/act like a romance novel hero was HILARIOUS.

Warning : the following quote is not for those with delicate sensibilities...

"In every romance novel, the hero, aka That Guy, always follows up a good backseat fingering with a move that sets the heroine's panties on fire. It ignites those feelings all over again, so that even as she comes down from her first orgasm, she's already anticipating the next one."

He's no longer fighting his smile. "So what did I do wrong?"

"You pulled your hand out of my pants and wiped your fingers on your pants like they were damp due to condensation from your water glass, rather than the sweet, sinful, innocently sexy kryptonite honey flowing from my vagina."
Want to know what move is supposed to set the heroine's panties on fire? You'll have to read this wonderful book!

Of course, I completely get that humor is a subjective thing . . . I'm positive that if you read the sample before you buy this book, that will be enough to tell you whether it'll be your thing or not. :-) Happy reading!!

PS: a HUGE thank you to Josiane for putting this book on my radar. <3

I didn't like the main characters, I enjoyed Cam's scenes, he seemed more interesting than Jake, I think the problem is that we don't have his POV so I felt that he had no personality.

Not my kind of Heroine

I feel like I should write some kind of review because my rating is so much different than all the 5 stars. There may be some spoilers, but I don’t know how since nothing really happens in the book. It’s being kind to say it’s formulaic.

I just absolutely hated the main character. She’s useless, vapid, rude, & immature. What was with all the selfies meant to make her friend, who is struggling through a breakup, jealous? She wants to give a guy an ultimatum after about a week? She doesn’t cook a meal, clean up after herself, seems to have no source of income, or appear capable of managing any form of adulting, yet this highly successful and driven man should fall madly in love with her and be ready to propose after less than a week. What’s to even love about Penelope? She couldn’t even feign interest in his business? She was just an absolute nightmare.

Not that Jake is any real prize. She tells him she expects him to wear protection one day & 2 days later, he decides to go without it but doesn’t bother to ask before he jams it in. She said she wasn’t on the pill! Plus, he sleeps around. Unlike the book, no shaming for that, but ya gotta protect yourselves if you’re going to have several different partners, who admittedly have several other partners. Plus, he supposedly has this monster equipment that leaves her swollen and sore, but he decides he’s gonna keep it rough. Show a little compassion, man! Give a girl some recovery time or buy a bottle of lube, at least!

I could go on & on, but I feel like I’ve hit some of the irritating parts that stick out for me. I want to read about adults. Penelope seemed about 15 years old to me. Her big selling point appears to be her no filter/ outrageous attention-seeking behavior, but I just found her to be a silly and high maintenance gold-digger.

One star cause it’s required, & the second star for Cam in the beginning. He seemed likable until the epilogue.

That Guy by Kim Jones is not your typical Kim Jones book there isn't one sexy biker in sight 😖 but we do get hot sin of a billionaire 😍.
It's a quick, easy, hilarious and exceptionally naughty read.
There are a few moments when you feel embarrassed for Penelope with her crazy actions and run away mouth but there are also plenty of giggles.
If you want a fun naughty read then this book is highly recommended.

I am usually one sick and twisted chick when it comes to romance not a romantic comedy girl at all. That being said, I think this may be my favorite book this year! My God, just the opening paragraph was a "wtf???" I cannot imagine how anyone could not laugh at some (most) of the stuff that comes out of Penelope Hart's mouth or the push pull between her and Jake Swagger. Yep, that's right, the billionaire's name in this book is Jake Swagger and swagger he does. Penelope is absolutely priceless - she's the definition of that phrase "they must've cracked the mold when they made you". He's Chicago royalty, she's small-town Mississippi romance writer with 4,000 likes on her Facebook page (thank you very much!) and together the two of them could not be funnier. Case in point:

Jake: “You tried to lick the enamel off my teeth, Penelope. I think it’s safe to say that you’re the bad kisser here. Not me.

And Penelope: “And I only wanted a fucking chicken wing. Instead, I got this crap and a conversation with you. So I guess we both got more than we bargained for.

And that's what she says, forget about her thoughts:

'I’d have been fine with plain ol vanilla sex—me on my back. Him thrusting and grunting inside me while I moan and claw at his arms. But when Jake Swagger steps up his game, it’s like going from Pee-Wee football to the NFL. Just…one minute you’re a three-foot-tall quarterback, missing your two front teeth, pausing mid-throw so your mom can take a picture, and the next you’re six two with a Nike endorsement, a Maserati, a supermodel to cook your dinner and another to lick your balls.'

Yes, comedy is subjective but it's almost impossible not to laugh out loud at this book. While it pokes fun at romance novels and the usual formula, it also contains heart, characters you can relate to, thorough amusement and a real relationship that is sweet, naturally progresses, and a H & h that you become totally invested in.

It has all the feels tucked in between the laughs and the author does such a damn good job of making you simultaneously laugh while also making you swoon. Not to mention they can be hot as sin when they're together!

Kudos to the author for such a completely satisfying read and 5 totally cracked stars!

Finger snap.
Finger guns.
River dance.

This book was the funniest book I've ever read so far. Everything that came out of Penelope's mouth made it difficult for me to keep my face straight while reading this book in public.

"It's the appropriate medical term, Jake." I don't know why, but every time Penelope said that, she made me laugh out loud.

P.S. Fifty Shades of Grey references were a bonus. 🤭

Ohhhh boy. I really really really wanted to love this book.

I'm very much in the minority here so you know, maybe ignore this review because everyone else was apparently rolling around on the floor laughing.

The humor in this book just missed the mark for me, it was barely a step above toilet humor and don't get me wrong I'm not above saying "that's what she said" from time to time but the inner monologue from Penelope read like a bizarre stand up comedy act....in her head. It was one liners after one liners and it felt relentless. Could she have one serious thought? Could she not act like a teenage girl with her first crush?

I could go on and on about things I didn't like about Penelope, honestly she was so annoying, rude, childish, dumb...is she actually an author? I have no idea.

2 stars are for:

Jake wasn't terrible, he was a pretty cookie cutter billionaire asshole H. Big dick, filthy mouth, misunderstood, actually a sweetheart, really really good at fucking.

The sex was also really hot when Penelope shut her mouth although my GR buddy Renee would be appalled at the lack of a BJ because apparently a guy going down on you 20 times is fine but don't expect the favor to be returned.

“Loving you is the easiest thing I’ve ever done

Characters
Jake (CEO of his own company, Venture Capitalist):
The following words/phrases were used to describe hero: sexy, hot, Rich, Single, Works too much, Takes life too serious, Controlling, Ambitious, Secretly generous, driven, Independent, Loyal, confident, powerful, authoritative

Something to know about Jake:
- Jake’s last name is Swagger. Cheesy?? You bet. But, after I got to know him I couldn’t imagine any better last name. He definitely had a swagger that would make panties melt❣️

A quote about Jake:
“He exudes confidence. Radiates power. Emits authority. There’s precision in his every step. Every breath is controlled. Too bad he’s not very intuitive or he would know I’m over here about to lose my shit.

Penelope (author):
The following words/phrases were used to describe Penelope: sassy mouth, eccentric, mischievous, country bumpkin, hillbilly, carefree, charismatic

Something to know about Penelope:
- She has published one novel that brought her a bit of success (and don't forget about her 4000 followers on Instagram thank you very much! 🙂)

A quote about Penelope:
“I’m from a small town in the south. We have snakes and bears and Bigfoot. I can handle some snotty rich people.

My Thoughts:
The following are my thoughts about this book:
- Right from the opening paragraph I knew I was in for a ride. 😂. Penelope was a true BFF! LOL. She has no concept of personal space, and it cracked me up
- Penelope's signature "river dance, finger snap, finger guns move...🤦‍♀️. I could totally picture it in my head
- Jake...omg, so many swoony moments. ❤️❤️
- The sexy striptease 😂 So typical of Penelope......“I hook my thumbs into the waistband of my leggings. Only when they’re to my knees do I realize I forgot to take my boots off. So I attempt to use the toe of one boot on the heel of the other to take it off. When that doesn’t work, I hop around on one foot. Seventeen hours later, I’ve managed to remove the bastards from my feet.
- Good flow and kept me entertained
- I really did love Penelope. She had an innocence about her that wasn’t childish (which probably doesn’t make sense). But, her well intentioned actions (skewed as they might be 😉) resulted in funny mishaps.
- I am picky about my Rom Coms. If it’s stupid humor, the humor feels forced or it’s over the top, I will give the book a low rating or even DNF. For me, there’s a fine line between a book being stupid and one that’s funny and a lot of authors just can’t get the combination right for me. This author hit it out of the park!
- I want a book for Cam!!❣️
- My favorite type of couple is the quirky heroine and the straightlaced, no nonsense, alpha-male hero. This couple hit all my favorite buttons. I loved them. ❤️

’He speaks words to me I’m not meant to hear. They’re meant to fall on deaf ears. They’re meant to be said to a woman who is asleep. But they’re said in a whispered tone laced with such conviction and sincerity, that even if I couldn’t hear it with my ears, I’d hear it in my soul. Because that’s where I feel him most. Where I know him best.

Overall:
- POV: dual POV
- H likable? Yes
- h likable? Yes
- h virgin? No
- First time they kiss: 27%
- First time they sleep together: 49%
- steamy? Yes
- OW/OM drama? No
- H/h cheat? No
- Did I skip pages? No
- Big secrets? No
- Did I cry? No
- Did I laugh? Hell Yes!
- Cliffhanger? no
- Epilogue? Yes....from Cam’s POV
- Recommend? Yes. I will definitely reread this, and I don’t say that often.

Quotes
“You’re like a goddamn fungus!
I smile. I can’t help it. “Because I’m growing on you?

“You tried to lick the enamel off my teeth, Penelope. I think it’s safe to say that you’re the bad kisser here. Not me.

“I do a little heel-kick river dance, snap and point my finger guns at him. “What’s up?
“First. Don’t ever do that again.
I do it again.
He’s not impressed.

“I can handle myself. But, I promise, if I see an opening for a damsel-in-distress moment, you can bet your ass I’m going to seize it.

“You’re losing your shit, sweetheart, he mutters around his smile.
“Yeah. I know. Cause that’s Ed Sheeran. Like, right there.
“For fuck’s sake, Penelope. Don’t point.
“You think he’ll let me get a selfie?

Fucking Ed Sheeran.
Right. There.

With reckless fucking abandon.

“Undressing Jake Swagger is like unwrapping the Christmas present you’ve waited all year for. One that you’ve already unwrapped and rewrapped so you know what’s inside. But it doesn’t make unwrapping it a second time and playing with it any less exciting.

****Just as fucking hilarious the second time around - amazing audio****

Okay, so I'm rewriting my review because this book needs to be brought in to the light more. I can't believe that S.M. Soto took 5 scenes from this book and basically copy/pasted them into her book The Season of Callan Reed.

You guys, if you haven't read this book, you fucking need to. Its been almost a year and I can still laugh my ass off at this book. It was so good and funny.

This book defines the way my brain works. I'm pretty sure I say to my husband at least once a day "In my book, it would have happened like this....."

This book is kind of like a mock on Romance Books, but not. If you don't laugh your ass off there is seriously something wrong with you.

And the limo scene, I mean.. It does not get better than that - please if you have read this comment about the limo scene below. My husband legit asked me to leave the bed at 11 pm because I was shaking trying to hold in my laughter.

I loved this book from beginning to end. It had me from the bag of dog shit all the way to the end.

“For fuck’s sake, Penelope Hart…you’re making me fall in love with you.

I will definitely have this on my revolving book door.

This book was EVERYTHING I hoped it would be...and then some!!!
description

I could gush for a thousand words about how much I LOVED it, but honestly, I just want to thank Kim for writing it and making me smile, laugh and swoon constantly during a week when, well... I really needed it, in RL.

Truly, she is the Queen of funny, snarky, quirky banter and an outstanding storyteller. I've read and loved every single one of her books - but for me, this one was the BEST.
LOL hope she's always blessed with that box fan!!

I've got to note too that I know I can get bitchy as hell on here when authors use Pretty Woman/Dirty Dancing quotes as an excuse for not having anything better to say of their own, but for once, (and thank fuck for it!!) Kim used them PERFECTLY - I actually wanted more, every single quote was brilliantly written in. I'm so happy that we have That Guy : )

Cam and Emily's book needs to come out soon!! Again, it's going to be EPIC!

PRE-REVIEW:
I think I'm in shock that Kim Jones is writing a non biker book!!

I really liked this book.

I need to admit that I am a bit dissatisfied with the events towards the end. This book could have been a 5 stars review for me, were not for a couple of simple things. The first half of the book is really funny. I laughed a lot, and had a lot of fun reading it. After that, the romance developed nicely and I enjoyed it a lot. Where it felt short for me was at the very end. The end was very abrupt, forcefully dramatic and it left me unsatisfied. The conversation that creates the conflict and drama in the end seems out of place and unjustified. It is there to create that break on the characters, and based on their trajectory up to that point, it feels artificial, an easy way out to resolve the relationship. To me, it was unbeilable, unjustified and poorly done. The story was going so well, that to botch it right on the very last 20 minutes is tremendously disappointing and frustrating. Also, I felt like I needed more story, more book from right before that moment on, there was simply no context to end the book so quickly. It needed and actual conflict written and developed in the story with a coherent resolution, not a patch at the very end.

Besides that, the book was pretty enjoyable, the romance was cute and I loved it.

Hysterical ⭐️

I don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard while reading a book!

I gave it a 5⭐️ just because:
I loved the heroine, even with her numerous shallow comments about that guy being so rich.
I got enough Pretty Woman & Fifty Shades of Grey references.
I think I might have peed myself laughing at the crazy things Penelope was thinking or saying most of the time.
There was some serious smutness, but even those scenes were hilarious.
Last, but not least, that heroine is my type of girl. At some point in my life I think I used to be like that.

So I don’t care about the clichés, the length of the story - i had a moment were I thought it’s a little bit dragged, or anything else, besides the fact that it made me feel really good and I should thank Melanie for putting this book on my radar with her awesome review.
You’ll read it and might think i’m crazy for giving it 5⭐️, because it might not deserve them, but again, i don’t really care. 😋

OMG! This is like my 5th or 6th really good book in row. I'm almost scared to pick my next read. This streak can't last.

I literally ate this book up. I could not put it down. It's funny and sexy and the perfect book for all of us romance readers as the author pokes fun at the concepts that we love of the genre. I loved it!

***WARNING: DO NOT CONSUME BEVERAGES WHILE READING THIS BOOK. IF YOU MUST, MAKE SURE TO ONLY CONSUME WATER BECAUSE CARBONATED DIET COKE BURNS LIKE A BITCH COMING OUT OF YOUR NOSE FROM LAUGHING SO HARD AND IT ALSO STAINS YOUR COUCH***

Kim Jones now holds the title for funniest romance I’ve ever read.

This book is FUNNY!!!!! Like, I’m-laughing-every-single-page-type-of-funny.

The heroine, Penelope, kinda reminds me of that girl in this movie that I can’t remember the name of. It was one where the best friend is the super hilarious comic relief that’s a little much at times but you love her anyway. Not Bridesmaids. I forget the name.

Sidenote: I suck at remembering the names of movies and actors (and books, which is why a lot of stuff I previously read has not been recorded on GR). Whenever I try to reference a movie or actor, the conversation usually goes something like this:

Me: “You know that movie with that guy in it? (mentally replays the scenes from the movie I’m thinking about while staring at my husband, assuming he knows exactly what I’m talking about.)

Husband: (Audible sigh) “No, not really.

Me: (Ignores audible sigh) “Yes you do. You know, the one that was [insert some vague reference to the movie playing in head].

Husband: (narrows eyes in confusion as he searches his brain to figure out what the hell I’m talking about) “No.

Me: “Yes you do. You know, the one where the guy looks like that guy from that other movie.

This scene repeats about 2-3 more times until my husband is able to decode my poor descriptions because he is well accustomed to this routine and has a gift at knowing all things movies.

Obviously, I will never be selected as anyone’s teammate on the $25,000 pyramid game.

But I do kick-ass at Family Feud from the comfort of my couch. Seriously, I’m really good. (I’ve already picked out the family members I want on my team and ruled out the ones that would crumble under pressure. Sorry mom.)

ANYWAY.. back to That Guy..

description

Penelope’s humor carries the book. She is witty as hell and does a great job poking fun at the romance novel formula. And I'm not hating on that formula. In fact, I often love it. Romance novels are awesome and I can't believe I waited so long to start reading them, but at the same time, lots of clichés exist in romance novels and I think the author did a great job making light of them.

While the humor was on point, some of the storyline was not. I wish the connection between Penelope and her billionaire was developed more and not just based on humor and sex. Also, the hero wasn’t my cup of tea (or coffee I never liked drinking tea). I thought he was pretty mean and his crummy behavior went unexplained at times.

I also got a little tired of all the winking that the men did in this book.

One more thing:

The book begins with a Penelope getting into a limo to escape being chased and then is mistaken as a hired escort for the hero. It turns out, the billionaire hero is too “busy and “emotionally-absent to have real relationships, so he hires escorts to accompany him to work-related events (and then has sex with them). And, his friends and relatives know about this setup and disapprove. sort of.

While the derogatory comments from the characters regarding escorts were not unexpected, they were disappointing and unoriginal. I don’t know anything about the sex-trade business other than what I’ve read in fictional books and heard on random news stories, but I have a hunch that some prostitutes and/or escorts are not working in the industry because it is their dream job, but rather because of extenuating circumstances (some of which, are really terrible). So, in the spirit of not kicking others when they are down, and being a decent human, I wish the author had just had the hero date really vapid and selfish women. Then and everyone around him, (including Penelope) could judge those women for their lacking personalities. Penelope would still end up on her pedestal but not at the detriment to sex workers.

There, that was my beef.

Otherwise, really funny book!

This book is hysterical! I was laughing so hard that tears were streaming down my face. I nearly dropped my iPad in the pool from giggling so hard. Ah!!! Kim Jones has written a one of a kind, unrestrained, over the top, side splitting romance. I couldn't get enough of this book- Penelope is my "spirit animal". If you need a book to lighten your mood, one that will lift you up, make your sides hurt from laughing so hard, or just a fun/mindless read, then this is your book. I have never read anything by the author before but if she continues writing rom coms (**wink wink, MY girl**) I will forever be a fan! I highly recommend it for anyone who loves a romantic comedy!

This book contains everything I love in a novel: A fun, sassy, uncontrollable heroine with a mind of her own and the mouth of comedian. A dark, brooding hero who doesn't come out of his shell until the heroine SHOWS him how much fun life can be. A cast of secondary characters that I NEED to hear from in another book. Overall, everything I have hoped for and wished for in a romantic comedy since reading The Chocolate Lovers series from Tara Sivec and the Virgin Romance Novelist series from Meghan Quinn.

This book is about Penelope and Jake. How they meet is unconventional to say the least, and if I get into details you may either not believe me or think it's too over the top. So I won't go into plot details because it's something you need to experience to understand. I will say that this is one of the best rom coms I have read in a long time, and features a heroine who is trying to discover the perfect "That Guy" from romance novels. You see, she is an author herself so... And Jake? He's the dark, mega rich CEO that has no time for anything BUT work. Until this filthy mouthed woman LITERALLY crashes his bachelor pad... Gah! This book is fantastic and a total MUST HAVE!!!

This book was hilarious. So if you are in the mood for some unpretentious & just some funny read, this is the book. I admit Penelope is not for everyone so you will either like her, or she will annoy you. I liked her. She is like so many of us romance readers. The side characters were very much amazing.

This was just what the doctor ordered, at the moment after some emotional draining reads, so I enjoy it. So many laugh out loud moments....
If you need some ridiculous, feelgood & fun reading time..this is it...

Cheers!!

2 stars. Is there a such thing as an actual funny romantic comedy book with a heroine who isn’t an annoying airhead or am I asking for too much? Jesus this book was painful. Unfunny and try hard.

I hated the characters. Penelope isn’t someone I relate to at all. She had the mentality of a 16 year old girl experiencing her first crush and I hated that every time she even thought about Jake she pretty much went into heat. Even when he was treating her and talking to her like garbage she was was still wanting to hump his leg. Like, girl, calm your ass down. She never felt like a grown woman at any point in the book. She didn’t take responsibility for her dumbass actions and everything out of her mouth was very tumblr-esque and I wanted to punch her so bad. She broke into the guy’s house and catches an attitude with him and tries to flip on him?? Nah. That’s just dumb. You’re on his property acting entitled? I can’t even.

I hated Jake Swagger on the simple fact that his name is Jake Swagger. Didn’t help that he had no personality besides being the typical, rich alpha a-hole #3748340348393408.

Also, the romance between them was very unbelievable. It didn’t seem like she was even his type. He insults her earlier in the book by implying she’s a dumb country bumpkin and then “generously (his word) rated her looks a 6 out of 10. Jesus be some self esteem.

The only positive I can say is that the writing is good and I like the cover. That’s it. I’m done reading ‘romantic comedies. I’m just not having any luck with them.

This was fun, playful and just what I needed to get me out of my slump. I adored Penelope. She was quirky and the star of this book. She’s silly and she made me smile a lot.

Jake was a jerk at first. I didn’t like him, until I did. The more he fell for Penelope, the more I fell for him.

The best friend, Cam was just as enjoyable in the story. I hope his story is next. That ending was a complete tease!

I did the audiobook from audio escape and would highly recommend it. The narrators were awesome!

Qual’ l’uomo ideale che tutte le lettrici compulsive, strafogatrici assidue di romanzi rosa cercano? Signore e signorine ecco a voi “quel ragazzo

“La sua mascella ha tutte le caratteristiche virili che le autrici descrivono con parole come scolpita, forte, squadrata, ricoperta-da-un-filo-di-barba-vecchia-di-un-giorno.
Labbra strappate direttamente dalla bocca di Tom Hardy. Un naso che non si può definire perché chi è che sa come cazzo si descrive un naso sexy. E quegli occhi? Blu come l’oceano forse.

Dita-pistole.
Passo di danza.
