Originally published as part of the USA Today bestselling anthology Eye Candy, Getting Down is a hilarious and hot short story set in the Shacking Up world. Now contains a never before published bonus scene!
Ruby Scott's favorite holiday is here, all she needs is a moderately good excuse to throw a party. With the help of her best friend Amalie--and Amalie's fiance's budget--the two of them throw a Halloween-inspired fundraiser. But no event goes off without a couple hitches...
Helena Hunting is the author of The USA Today and NYT bestselling PUCKED Series. She lives on the outskirts of Toronto with her incredibly tolerant family and two moderately intolerant cats. She writes everything from romantic sports comedy to new adult angst.
➳A novella that lead up to so much emotion, mystery, and "getting down" to the dirty details of what is so captivating about 's writing...
➳Of course, one can never get enough of Bane and Ruby from Shacking Up, and honestly, how can one? They are both two unique characters that I wish I could actually meet in person. They both not only have charisma, but also so much spark that I seriously just want to become their third wheeler, JUST to witness the crazy stuff these two do together. Helena Hunting never seems to amaze me more than what she currently has. She not only brings a new story to the table, and introduces the gentleman that will steal the heart of Amie, but she also gives us steamy, and wonderfully written intimate scenes from Ruby and Bane that I was missing so much. To go into details about this novella, is juts not possible without any spoilers.
➳Expect more to come because Helena is not done with either Ruby and Bane, and also with Amie’s story, coming this year! I am honestly excited after reading this anthology because I can definitely see the spark between Amie and her “finance **wink wink** Overall, I enjoyed this part of the anthology by Helena Hunting, as she prepares her readers for her next, upcoming masterpieces!
I’ve shared the size of Bane’s cock with her. I’ve mentioned my new religion: the Church of Bane Cock. I’ve written sonnets about how beautiful it is. Not really, but I’ve made up a couple of limericks.
Helena Hunting is one of the authors that is ranked HIGH on my favorites list. I love her brand of humor and a number of her cocky and sexy as hell Heroes have stolen my heart. When I found out she would be writing a Halloween themed novella for the characters from SHACKING UP, I knew I had to get my hands on this book. I’m not a huge fan of anthologies but there was no way I could pass up on getting more of sexy Bane and vivacious Ruby!! I loved this couple and their story so much. To be able to spend a little more time with them was a sweet Halloween treat.
The story focuses equally on the sexy hijinks of Bane and Ruby, and also on the troubling relationship between Amie and her fiancé Armstrong. The timeline seems to be around several months after Ruby moves into Bane’s condo permanently. Their relationship is still somewhat new and these two have an insanely insatiable sexual appetite for each other. Bane and Ruby can’t seem to get enough of each other. We get to see a vulnerable side to Bane. The fact that their careers have them working on opposite schedules means that they don’t get to spend a lot of quality time together and there are moments when Bane is jealous of the attention that Amie and even his family get from Ruby. These two are perfect for each other because Ruby never gets annoyed with Bane’s jealous streaks. She is understanding and does whatever she can to show Bane just how much he means to her.
While Amie is incredibly happy for her best friend she’s also jealous over Ruby’s and Bane’s relationship. Amie’s been dealing with an enormous amount of stress over the planning of her upcoming wedding. She’s also upset that no matter how hard she tries to please her soon to be mother-in-law, the woman seems to dislike her for no apparent reason. Ruby has noticed that Amie has lost the special spark in her since she got together with Armstrong. She used to be rebellious and now she’s become a shell of the woman she used to be. Amie knows that her friends don’t approve of her relationship with Armstrong and deep down she knows that she will be making a big mistake if she goes through with the marriage. There’s no spark between them like there is with Bane and Ruby. Their sex life is practically non-existent and utterly bland when they actually do have sex.
Ruby and Amie wind up being in charge of planning a huge Halloween gala and fundraiser that Bane and Armstrong’s corporations will sponsor. The theme of the ball is “famous couples real or fictional. Bane and Ruby go as Batman and Catwoman and an unforeseen costume malfunction will be cause for some truly hilarious moments. Amie ends up going as Cinderella without her Prince since a business trip prevented Armstrong from attending. This is quite fortunate because it’s at the gala that we get to see Lex, Bane’s older brother, and Amie interact. There’s definitely an attraction brewing between them and we learn something about how and when they first met. It sheds some light on what could be the cause of animosity between Lex and Armstrong. I’m already putting the pieces of this puzzle together.
Lex is just as sexy and charismatic as his younger brother and I just know that he’s the right guy for Amie. He’s going to be the one to bring back Anarchy Amie and he’ll treasure her for the woman she truly is. HOOKING UP is their story and it was FABULOUS! A definite must-read!!

➦Well, this is a fun little novella. It can be read as a standalone, methinkes. But better if read after book #1 in the series. It doesn't give out spoilers though, as far as I could tell.
➦Ever wonder what fun it would be to f*** Batman? Logistics of it? Like, does he have to, maybe, unzip his suit all the way to get friskeh? Or may be not?
➦Well, this book might answer those very important questions to some extent. Warning, however: this book is not about a real Batman. Disappointed? No problem. You're still guaranteed to have heaps of fun following a story of two friends organizing a Halloween party. It's laugh out loud hilarious and will entertain you for a couple of hours. :) Sealed.
Let's just say I really looked forward to this one, because I loved shacking up!
I loved this so very much! Also the pov from Amie! Can I smack Armstrong against the head? What a effin douche he is.. It made me so sad that I needed to wait for Amie her book! But also very exciting! Now I've read it and still love this little glimpse we got of a wonderful time!
You don’t need to have read Helena Hunting’s Shacking Up to sit back and enjoy this short story, but Getting Down certainly appeased my appetite for more Ruby and Bane. Their relationship may be a bit too oversexed for me here, but they are the complete opposite of Amalie and her uptight fiancé, Armstrong.
Amalie is Ruby’s best friend, and the story follows them planning a Halloween ball for the rich and snooty. I love their friendship. Ruby is quirkier than ever, even as she deals with small cracks in Bane’s armor of self-assurance. Meanwhile, Amalie tries to suppress her bad girl nature to meet Armstrong’s boring expectations.
There’s humor galore in each chapter, and I get the feeling we’ve only touched the surface of Amie and Armstrong’s screwed up relationship. She really does deserve her own story. Lucky for us, she got one! My pump is well primed for more of Amie’s adventures in Hooking Up.
Getting Down originally appeared in the anthology Eye Candy.
*I voluntarily read an early copy of Eye Candy. This does not affect the content of my review.*
If you've read Helena Hunting's that was recently just released, you'll definitely fall in love and in lust with this one. It's the perfect sequel to Bane and Ruby's story and a huge tease for Amie's tale in !
This was told both in Ruby and Amie's POVs. As usual, we get the adventurous and funny Ruby. God, her mishaps were just too epic, there's not a chance you won't bust a lung laughing. And then we get a needy, insecure and jealous Bane which hit a little too high on the sexy scale. But it was Amie's parts that intrigued me the most here. I'm really hoping that this is the giant hint we're waiting for pertaining to her mystery man. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes that the guy I'm thinking of is the right one and who'll be getting Anarchy Amie back. Because for god’s sakes, the dull douche canoe, also known as Armstrong, really needs to be booted out already. Like yesterday! This seriously has me all kinds of pumped up and excited for Amalie's book!
Getting Down has tons of hilarious scenes that we crave from Helena Hunting and there may be some dirty superhero fantasies involved that came true. I mean, costume soirées and all that. After reading this, Ruby and Amie will certainly make you want to play dress up again and you'll get a lot of hot ideas from them on what to wear or be this coming Halloween!
Fun Fun Fun and hot.! more Bane and Ruby, i can't get enough of this two, and we get a glimpse on Aime's thinking. Her book is next and let me tell you I m dying for Lex.
The following is from my original review of the Eye Candy Anthology, which is where Getting Down was first published. It was this amazingly hilarious novella that introduced me to the magic that is Helena Hunting. I have since read and LOVED Shacking Up and Hooking Up and am now a devout member of the #ChurchOfBaneCock ;) I definitely recommend this novella!
Getting Down by Helena Hunting read the most like a regular book to me. Truth be told, I have not read Shacking Up, but I completely fell in love with the characters (Ruby and Bane are freaking amazing!) and didn't feel lost at all while reading this. I definitely plan on reading it now though and am excited to read Amie's story next in Hooking Up. This was an entertaining read and a great way to set the stage for the next book.
3.5 stars Wow ... reading this little novella is like experience a hot and cold shower. While Ruby's and Bane's chapters will leave you all hot and bothered, whereas Amalie's and Amstrong's chapters are like balloon loosing its air.
Getting Down is the perfect book to bridge between Shacking Up (Ruby's story) and Hooking Up (Amalie's story). It's nice to be back again with Ruby and Bane and getting some heads up and hints on what to expect with Amalie's story.
Be prepared to read mostly some very hot and steamy scenes from Ruby's POV and get really frustrated by reading Amalie's POV. You start to question, why she really is going to marry this guy, there is no chemistry at all. But hey, don't get me wrong, there is some really hot and sparkling chemistry popping up, but not where you expect them. ;-)
This was such a good novella! We got to see our favorite characters from Shacking Up along with being introduced to some new ones. This was funny as hell and I’m still giggling just thinking about it.
We did get a bit of Amie’s POV and that makes super excited to read her story next!
I read this last year in the Eye Candy anthology. This was a great look into Bancroft and Ruby after their book and a great sneak peak into Amelie's before her book. It was hilarious and made me want to read both books, which I hadn't at the time.
4 stars. Great novella. I felt awful for Amelie here. Seeing the things she has to do deal with her fiancé, he's just the absolute worst. It was nice getting her p.o.v here because I do think she's a great character and I'm really looking forward to reading her book because she deserves a HEA. On the flip side, we also got Ruby and Bancroft which was great because those two are wonderful. This was funny, smutty and very entertaining. I don't think it's an absolutely necessary read but it was a lot of fun nonetheless.
Oh my gosh I loved this one! So great to catch up with everyone from the other two books. Loved the multiple POV. Plenty of LOL moments & just the right amount of heat. Such a fun read.
Getting Down by Helena Hunting was originally included in Eye Candy, a Halloween anthology, and itdrew me in and left me completely satisfied despite it's short length. Taking place inthe Shacking Up world, it is a small morsel of deliciousness that cranks up the heat but also supplies the sweet stuff just in time for Halloween.
We first met Ruby and Bane in their book,, and now they are back and better than ever. Ruby and her bestie, Amie, plan a Halloween party and we get two stories in one - Ruby and Bane's amazing relationship and Amie and Armstrong's caustic one.Clever, sexy, and hilarious, thisnovella is an entertaining and wonderful interlude between Shacking Up and Hooking Up,Amie's story. Included are greatcharacters, hilarious situations, fantastic banter, and a nice blend of sugar and spice.
Ruby and Bane are awesome. They are still madly in love and their relationship is wonderful and imperfect making it heathy and believable. The are real with each other and when they reveal insecurities, they talk through the challenges and deal with things as a functioning couple. They are also insatiable in (and out) of the bedroom and it is hot!
I love that we get so much of Amie in this novella. Best friends with Ruby, they have an easy friendship that is true and real. She is just as funny as Ruby and I loved watching her wild side make an appearance no matter how quickly it disappeared. When her past meets her present, I was literally laughing-out-loud.I can't be more excited for the set up of Amies story, Hooking Up,releasing November 7, 2017.
It was clear in Shacking Up that Amie and Armstrong are not meant to be.This novella does a great job illustrating how wrong Amie and Armstrong are together. We get a better idea of the dynamics of their relationship and we see what she's missing.I love that we get to meet the hero of Amie's book in this novella. He's swoony, sweet, and oh, so sexy. I can't wait to get my hands on him.
Sure to get you in the Halloween mood, grab Eye Candy today!

Getting Down is a short, hilarious novella that takes place between Shacking Up and Hooking Up. It was perfect because it’s told from the dual POVs of Ruby and Amie, letting me spend a little more time with Ruby and Bane while also setting up the history between Amie, Armstrong, and Lexington that plays into the next book. The plot centers around a Halloween party that Ruby wants to throw that gets taken over by Bane and Armstrong’s mothers and turned into a charity ball complete with bachelor auction. It has some of my favorite scenes in the series, “I have a ferret that needs to be played with and the Batman/Catwoman costumes. I don’t know how this would read on its own or in a different order, but I loved it as the perfect continuation of Shacking Up and a build up to Hooking Up.
Helena Hunting bring us the characters from Shacking Up. I loved Bane then and I love Bane now. The chemistry between Ruby and Bane is still smoking hot as you will see in this story. Playing dress up is sexy AF. And we got to see more of Amie in this as well, I'm hoping from what I saw in this story we will get an Amie and Lex book.
Forgettable. Also, it’s hard to feel bad for a woman choosing to be so blind her fiancé not caring about her. I don’t understand characters who chose to be purposefully oblivious or ignore HUGE signs. I’m still interested in the series as a whole but I really hope she gets her head on right. I’d hate to read a whole book where she makes excuses and ignores big issues.
Bane could be a whiner at times, “well, they need to go. They’re obstructing my ability to rub my huge, hard ***k against your ***, he complains." I loved seeing Bane and the gang again.
There’s definitely a lot of getting down in this book, as the title suggests ;-)
I loved the characters interactions, both between couples and friends and the incongruous awkward funny situations, typical of Helena Hunting’s writing style. However there was too much sex for my liking. Ruby and Bane seemed to always get at it, and there were no other activities nor moments shared between the two, except for sex.
Ruby Scott's favorite holiday is here, all she needs is a moderately good excuse to throw a party. With the help of her best friend Amalie--and Amalie's fiance's budget--the two of them throw a Halloween-inspired fundraiser. But no event goes off without a couple hitches...
Review : I loved this short it was cute so it's set around Halloween and Ruby and her best friend Amalie are practicing Halloween makeup when Bane her Amalie dick fiance comes back to the aparment for dinner he keeps telling Amalie to change what a dick . So Ruby decides to say they should throw a Halloween party but Armstrong is like it should be fancy ugh . But Ruby and Bane dress up as Cat women and Bat man and they get a bit frisky in the closet and her outfit kinda splits very cute .

Quote : Jesus. It looks like you blew a unicorn. I motion to his cock, then use the counter to pull myself up. “So does that mean it looks like you fucked a unicorn? “I feel like I need to retract the whole unicorn statement, because I really don’t want that image in my head before we have sex.
“I have a ferret that needs to be played with! Bane comes barging through the door. I expect him to be holding Francesca, their pet ferret, who has been penned up in her cage because it’s not safe for her with all the pins and stuff. But apparently Bane isn’t referring to his pet. It’s the one in his pants he’d like Ruby to play with. And I’m looking at it right now. “Holy mother! I bring my hand up to cover my eyes because I’m unable to look away. I think I might be having a hot flash. All I managed to get a glimpse of was the head, because Bancroft’s enormous fist is covering the entire shaft.
“Bane, put that away! You’re scaring Amie! I’m actually not sure if he’s scaring her at all. She has her hand up in front of her face, but she’s clearly peeking through her fingers. I’ve shared the size of Bane’s cock with her. I’ve mentioned my new religion: the Church of Bane Cock
Lex flipped up his skirt thing. At my confused expression she fills in the blank. “He wasn’t wearing underwear. “Oh! As that news sets in I ask what I assume I already know, based on the reaction of the women in the audience. “I assume that means he’s . . . ample. “Well. Amie gulps half of her second glass of champagne in one swallow. “I sincerely hope he’s a shower and not a grower, otherwise we should consider renaming him Vlad the Vagina Impaler. I snort. “You’re exaggerating. “Oh no, I am not. He could destroy someone with that thing. Her cheeks flush,
My Batman, my Bruce Wayne, my filthy-mouthed Prince Charming.
