Pykh #1

Human Omega: Discovered on the Slave Planet

Rate this book
How does a bad day get worse, you ask? Well

How about being squished between two huge, naked dudes with their meaty schlongs hanging out and everything?

It's all a matter of opinion, but Carter's day is going pretty badly. He's an engineer captured by bug aliens, now depending on his large, muscled, naked cage mates for food and warmth. They seem sentient, so that's good. But they're also handsy. Which is complicated.

The military isn't looking for him. Slaves taken by the bug race never come back. Yet, Carter is very much alive, and if he wants to stay that way, he'll need to trust Pykh and Siel, two affectionate aliens with claws, teeth, and size.

Funny and Kinky Aliens!!

I had no idea what to expect from this book. What I got was simply WONDERFUL!! It made me laugh, and giggle, and engaged my imagination in picturing cat-like aliens with prehensile tails lusting after a human omega while attempting to escape the clutches of enormous insects!!!

It was AWESOME! This one ends with a lovely ménage and a cliffhanger, so be prepared to read the next one.

This was my first book by this author and I was so very entertained and impressed!!!!

Reread March 2024

Reread to refresh my memory before tackling book 4 that’s in so excited for.

I’d forgotten how dark and sad this was but I sure do love this series.

Originally read August 2019

I really enjoyed this. These three have been through so much. Their world is a bleak place with the invasion. Their masters are cruel and disgusting. My heart broke for Pykh knowing he was raised the way he was...he didn't know anything different.

Of course, there's the communication barrier so there's misunderstandings. Some quite hilarious. But I also felt this had a "dark" vibe. Siel was obviously depressed and had given up hope. It was sad that they felt they had to "save" Carter by killing him. But there are funny moments interspersed so it's not too depressing. I'm looking forward to seeing how these three continue to survive.

Weird but quite sweet alien romance

That didn't go where I was expecting it to. There's lots of great world building here, but not as much alien sex as the title might give hints towards.

Instead, what I got was quite a good Sci-Fi story with a hint of menage and a whole load of communication issues and a bit of an action adventure.

I'm probably being really lenient with the rating but screw it, I liked this book a lot. Between the inability of the 2 Slave MCs to communicate (literally) with the human, the way they deferred to him (inexplicably) as an "Omega" (as Omegas are to be obeyed and followed in their society) and the presence of insect-like slave masters - well, what was not for me to like? Also, hey, the characterization was really well-done and the action sequence had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails because I wasn't sure they'd pull it off. I did a bit of an eye-roll at finding all the hidden supplies in that cave, but the rationalization did make sense.

I'd totally read a sequel if there is one in the making since the tale was HFN with plenty of room to continue... (EDITED TO ADD: There is one! Totally loved that one as well.)

Y'all! This was too cute! Two adorable alpha alien slaves (adorned with tails, claws, fangs and quills going down their backs) protect a new slave (human) because they considering him as their omega and treat him like a little lord.

No eggs in sight. :)

This was fun!
A smutty adventure on an alien world, Eileen Glass' writing style might be rough around the edges but the world building and originality of the story is both intriguing and entertaining. It hooked me in just as several of her previous books have. Not immediate this time, as I tried the sample months ago and wasn't convinced the book was for me. Luckily, it went on a discount a short while ago and I'm glad I picked it up.

There are several alien species in this book, and I much enjoyed that they are quite alien in appearance (rather than almost-human looking which is so common in sci-fi romance). The insect-like invader species was not just a distant sideshow to enable the smexy scenes, but pleasantly made a major part of the story.

Mpreg in this book?

Already started reading the sequel. :)

Space Cats!

I had such a great time listening to this! Joel Leslie is sublime, with great character voices, timing, and pacing, and then he ups the ante with such perfectly timed humor.

This book made me laugh out loud so many times. The reaction of Carter, a human captured by an alien bug-like species, to his cage mates Siel and Pykh (who are also aliens, but picture 7 foot tall giant tabby cats with enormous quills down their heads and shoulders) and the way only Siel and Pykh are able to communicate with each other and how they're all trying to understand what they're saying is a blast.

I'm not going to lie, this isn't my usual go-to genre, and I also don't usually gravitate towards menage relationships, but I was really pleasantly surprised. The writing and narration drew me in and kept me glued.

Side note? Yes, this is a ménage "mates" relationship, but it's not erotica, there is real relationship progression, not just sex, but good character development, and a nice twist on how Omegas are treated.

Multiple POV, sci-fi fantasy, alien romance, with great world and character building, lots of humor, and a cliffhanger ending.

Joel Leslie made this an absolute pleasure to listen to, and I definitely will be grabbing Human Omega: Trapped in the Alien Jungle (Pykh #2), because I absolutely need to know what happens next! 🐾👽🛸

Absolutely recommended for listening!

Story: 3.5 stars, Narration: 5 stars; Total: 4.25 stars

The characters were very flawed yet still mostly endeared themselves to me.

Siel is arrogant, dismissive, frequently condescending towards Pykh. He's also very depressed, and his pride has been badly damaged by his predicament and further so by his inability to protect the omega.

Pykh is innocent but selfish and sometimes seems wilfully ignorant. It slowly becomes apparent how limited his life experiences are, and how growing up a slave has impacted his worldview. This excuses much though his obsession with sex was a bit much.

Carter, I really liked. He's resourceful, determined, clever - though did we need to be told more than once that he has "near genius IQ"? I appreciated how he mostly just rolls with the punches and liked how he thought of Pykh & Siel as big alien kitty cats once he realises that they only want to protect him. I mean, they purr, so it doesn't seem wholly inaccurate.

The inability to communicate was frustrating at times but thankfully Carter, as an omega, is valued and so not completely dismissed. The forcing on how to treat him initially really got on my nerves but as the story develops the aliens realise how strong Carter is and come to respect him in a different way.

The worldbuilding is intriguing, and I do like the fish out of water trope.

This was perfectly enjoyable though not very impactful; I will still read the sequel.

Joel Leslie is not a narrator I usually enjoy, but I do think he did a great job here. The accents he uses are varied and identify the different characters very clearly. His dramatic tone works well with the style of the book.

re-read 07/02/2021: My first review might give the wrong impression about this series, so let me correct that by saying I love that the story is balancing between sweet, funny and sometimes intensely heartbreaking. Maybe at first read the sweet and cute parts stood out the most for me. But now I'm really seeing all it's different components.
Even the writing, which seemed wonky to me back then, might be purposely primitive in places to showcase one of the characters' lack of knowledge about the world in general.
Them boys are precious to me. :) I might have enjoyed it more the second time around.

_______________
Cinnamon roll is right! :D This is so sweet. Pykh is so damn cute, but it's so sad he grew up in captivity and considers that normal. Siel's pov was a bit sad, coz he wanted to give up so many times.
But most of all I liked how they thought Carter is a delicate flower who needs protecting. Which he did, but it was a team effort, they all needed to protect each other.
I shouldn't have liked this to be honest, because of the insta-love. But it was so damn cute and funny.
There wasn't much sex, which was surprising to me. Alas, I'm not sure how I feel about alien-human sex yet, good thing I already own book 2, so I'm off to find out.

3.5 stars :)

This was a fun quick read. I like how everything is not solved quickly, that all three MCs work together to just stay ‘above water. Does it still need some editing?...yes. However, the story was kept my attention enough to where it didn’t annoy me as it usually would. Just an FYI, there is a plot cliffhanger.

A different type of M/M/M romance. I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did.

What I Liked:
* The characters are well-developed overall. Pykh is naive and intuitive by turns, and his upbringing in captivity lends credence to the way he views the world and those around him. He isn't stupid, and I really loved the balance between his childlike innocence and his adaptability and earnest drive.
* Siel broke my heart as his grief and depression are believable, and the protective love he has for Pykh was layered. Their relationship was fascinating for its complexity. Carter's backstory was perhaps the only part of his character that felt a bit minimal to me, but we get just enough to understand where he's coming from and how he wound up a prisoner like the two aliens who comes to protect him.
* The enemies were likewise bare bones in what we actually learned of them but that didn't diminish their effectiveness as a threat. They were strange, sadistic, and the parts of the story that centered on them were chilling.
* The heart-pounding finale and the clever ways Carter was able to connect/work with Pykh and Siel.
* The language barrier opened the door to a lot of creative interactions, and I'd say that's the biggest thing I'm looking forward to reading more about in Book Two.
* The love scenes were well-done and never felt overused to the point of absurdity. These were characters surviving in dangerous circumstances and one way they could find strength and comfort was in each others' arms.
* Even being repeatedly described as physically smaller/weaker and an omega to be cherished and fussed over, Carter wasn't made the designated "coddled damsel"-type, which I greatly appreciated. He was still able to kick ass and contribute to the plot equally.

What I Didn't Like:
* There were more than a few spelling and grammatical errors throughout which became distracting, to the point where I had no clue what one or two sentences were even meant to say. I hope this gets corrected because it gave the story the unwanted feel of an unpolished fanfic.
* As I said, the story provides just enough backstory and context to make things work, but its sparseness certainly won't be for everyone and there were some times I wished it had given a little bit more depth to things. Fingers crossed that happens in the next installment.

On the whole I'm really glad I stumbled upon this alien-human M/M/M book and am looking forward to the sequel.

The title of this book, Human Omega: Discovered on the Slave Planet, is certainly a bit of a mouthful.

It has an interesting sci-fi world that we jump right into, without info-dumping. The romance is between three guys, two alien and one human. Carter's introduction into the relationship is very insta-love. He's an omega, not that he's aware of it. I wish we got more info on that and how it works in this context, but maybe the author is leaving if for future books.

Our main characters are Pykh and Siel, the aliens in this relationship, and Carter, the human. They all meet under dire circumstances. They're the prisoners of a bug alien race. Pykh has been there the longest. It seems he was born into slavery as when Siel is taken prisoner, despite them being of the same alien species, Siel has to teach Pykh their language and things like that.

The story kicks off when Carter is captured and completes the trio. What's really interesting to see is that as Pykh has been there so long, he's not only resigned to his fate, he accepts it as his normal. He can understand the bug alien speech and teaches Siel the status quo. Even though they both start a romantic relationship, it's not until Carter's arrival that he starts to question his situation and eventually try to escape while protecting his lovers.

I haven't read many sci-fi romances, but in the ones I have read there is always some sort of communication between the aliens and humans. But that's not the case in this book. Pykh and Siel have no communication with Carter outside of some hand gestures, that are more often than not misunderstood. I feel like this was cute at points but it definitely stifled the romantic potential for me.

I saw Human Omega: Discovered on the Slave Planet on Audible Plus and decided to give it a try. While I didn't connect with the romance elements as much as I wanted to, it was still an enjoyable read.

I was very surprised to discover this little jewel. Imagine a science fiction m/preg novel? Especially involving an MIA army engineer who is captured by his arch enemies that are sentient insectoids. He ends up in a cage of two tall, strange hedgehog-like humanoids who bring him on board with them in order to keep him alive throughout a very lethally cold night for his own species. He finds himself sandwiched between these two, realizing that they are both males, and his homophobe tendencies come out in full force. Really strange? Just read it. It's very unusual, and I'm always on the prowl for a new a different plot line. This book was worth the purchase!

Ok, so much more than I was hoping for.
Omegaverse books are hit and miss for me, but this one is so original.
First off, we're dealing with 2 aliens and 1 human...no shifters here. Carter is taken as a slave by the malevolent "bugs". They dump him on their slave planet and he ends up in a cell with Pykh and Siel. These guys are amazing and despite the lack of communications, they all develop a deep bond.

Please take a chance on this book...

aliens!

This was my first alien book and I got to say I like where it’s going. I love the playfulness I love the serious I love the miscommunication all around because they don’t understand one another. I love that they are going to have to figure it out. Can’t rate the diversity because we are o my in contact with one human. And as you can see from the cover that. We haven’t really gotten into smexy times so it’s an ehh. And no side characters besides the ones trying to kill them.

Being unable to communicate with other alien beings is one my favorite tropes and it was done awesomely well here.

The two aliens seeing the human as a weak omega was hilarious.

The way the human interacted with them made me laugh out loud.

Joel Leslie killed the narration and made the story better.

Yup still absolutely obsessed with this series and the audiobook is just divine! Jumping into the next Audiobook now 🥰
****
Updated Again 2023: It was time for a Reread of one of the most memorable series I’ve ever read. I Love this Series So Much! I’m So Happy to see that the Author is Actively Writing Book 4 on her Patreon, I’m so excited for it! ❤️

****
Starting off the New Year, with a reread. This world has become a comfort, Nibbler is so precious, he’s a very memorable character and is the reason why I wanted to listen to this series again (even though is it still unfinished). So good! I’m amping up the rating from 4 stars to 5. Because you have to do that if you go back to a series over and over again 🥰

I Give this Book a 5/5 Star Rating.

Formats Read: Ebook & Audiobook, Audiobook Review at Bottom.

Cliffhanger(?): Yes
Relationship Type: MMM
Heat: 3.5/5
Romances: 3/5
Pacing: Mid
Drama: 3/5
Suspense: 3.5-4/5

*Due to the Many Various type of Language Barriers I will put them in One of Three Categories.
Language Barrier(?): Yes.

Language Barrier - Temporary, Semi or Permanent(?): Permanent as of right now, but it then goes to Semi.

*Permanent is where >both main characters/significant others< speak their own languages but cannot understand each other so they have to rely on using either various basic words, sounds or gestures to get a point across, and there is no mechanical solution or it’s unable to be used.
*Semi Permanent is where one or both teach each other their language and can at some point speak near fluent and may or may not have a mechanical solution at some point, but in the end can go without mechanical help but the option is there.
*Temporary is where there IS a mechanical solution to fix the language barriers between significant others permanently. No future issues.

Audiobook Review:
Overall: 4/5
Story: 4/5
Performance: 4/5
Narrator: Joel Leslie

I own the books of this series, and I wanted to wait it out till this series was finished but lately I’ve been reading so many posts for this series again and I just needed to jump in.
I’m familiar with Joel, but I’ve never listened to any book he’s narrated and he did a really good job in this one, his voice (for me) is something I definitely Need to get used too, but the way he inflicts emotions and ‘need in the voices is definitely addictive, I’m going to jump into the next book ☺️

After listening to this series again, I truly appreciate the passion Joel put into the characters, it’s so captivating! ☺️

Ok. This is not my normal read. One: I tend to stray away from MMM. and Two Sci fi featuring aliens (with non-human traits) and humans isn't usually on my must read list. Why did I pick this one up? Well Rachel Reid , author of the Game changers series I love, recommended it as a fun read. She was right.

This book is fun and different. All 3 MCs start off as slaves to an alien bug race (gross) and end up in the same cage. Pykh has been a slave since birth. Siel is a more recent addition as Pykhs cage mate, but has still been in captivity for a number of years. They are both the same species, which I am not even going to try and remember how to spell, but Siel is the only one who knows the way of their people as he has had a life outside being a slave. Last of all there is Carter. Carter is the snarky human who was very recently captured and has just been thrown into a cage with two aliens he has never seen before. Oh and did I mention neither know the others language?

Thankfully the book is told from the point of view of all 3 in alternating chapters. I enjoyed getting everyone's take on the some of the same "conversations" because each of them are just so different, even Siel and Pykh. Carter's snark is hilarious and his descriptions of how the human race has changed in the distant future is interesting. He is an engineer so he is well versed in much of the new tech that exists.

Much of the book is spent with these three fumbling around, trying to communicate with each other. Carter is still trying to decide if Siel and Pykh really mean him no harm, but he doesn't have much of a choice in the end because he needs them to survive. The night temperatures are freezing and our two aliens are extremely warm bodied. The snuggling isn't minded one bit by Siel or Pykh because apparently Carter smells like an omega of their kind. Omega's are to be cherished and protected above all. They should never belong in a cage. Carters appearance is just the motivation these 3 need to work together and change their fate as prisoners.

So you hear slaves, seven foot tall cat like aliens, and ant-like slavers, and the last thing on your mind is an adorable and often times funny read, but that’s what you get here! It is still tense at times, and there’s definitely some action and less than happy moments, but I was expecting that given what I knew about the series. What I was not expecting was the absolute delight that is this story.
