His first novel that was translated into English, Alex, is a translation of the French book with the same title, it jointly won the CWA International Dagger for best translated crime novel of 2013.
In November 2013, he was awarded the Prix Goncourt, France's top literary prize, for Au revoir là-haut (published in English as The Great Swindle), an epic about World War I. His novels Camille and The Great Swindle won the CWA International Dagger in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

This is a psychoanalytic French Noir study of 12 year old Antoine Courtin who in 1999 commits an accidental act that results in the death of the 6 year old Remi Desmedt, who idolised Antoine. Set in the small town of Beauval, where everyone knows everyone, this is a dark literary novel that explores crime and punishment with regard to Antoine. It all begins with Ulysses, a dog that is hit by a car, and is then shot to put it out of its misery. Banned from being with friends obsessed with games on playstations, a solitary Antoine finds comfort and companionship with Ulysses. He is desperately upset and distressed in the woods, where he had been secretly constructing a tree house when Remi's death occurs. His vivid imagination supplies him with fearsome consequent scenarios that would befall him as a child murderer and how it would affect his mother, this drives his decision to hide the body in the woods.
Lemaitre paints a picture of a small community, seething with petty jealousies and resentments, that initially comes to organise searches for the missing Remi. The police are called in, and question a highly stressed boy slowly coming apart as he thinks of running away. Rumours and suspicions abound, fuelled by arrests of a teacher and Monsieur Kowalski, aka Frankenstein, a butcher for whom Madame Courtin works. His mother views Kowalski with contempt, so Antoine feels no remorse for what the butcher has to go through. His concern is for himself as he imagines himself being hauled in for the murder as the community are in the process of searching the woods. Antoine escapes detection as devastating storms and floods splinter peoples lives apart, and the business of surviving and rebuilding becomes the overriding priority and the search for Remi disintegrates. Antoine's life moves on but he can never forget. He becomes a medic and is engaged to Laura when at his mother's insistence he returns to Beauval for a party. A careless drunken sexual act with someone from the past has unexpected repercussions for Antoine as Remi's body is discovered.
Lemaitre displays a real talent in being able to enter the mind of a 12 year old boy and capture the tumultuous feelings, stresses and emotions in a way that feels so desperately authentic. All this is achieved amidst the background of Beauval, riddled with a morass of human frailties and personal relationships with a long history, so some seek vengeance and judgement at the most inappropriate times, displaying their inhumanity in public. All this history shapes the community response to the missing Remi and his family, and their commitment to finding him. This is a story of twists, suspense and dark thrills. It takes as its starting point a 12 year old boy who finds himself committing an act he never meant, and then follows through on its implications, many unexpected, and how they define Antoine's entire life. It raises issues of morality and asks whether what happens to Antoine is punishment enough? Is it too much? What would have happened if Antoine had been honest? This s a psychological novel in the truest sense. A young 12 year old boy, Antoine, commits an horrible act, accidentally but he hides the evidence. Twelve years later he makes another mistake, which will alter his life's path. These two mistakes will haunt him, and it is the chance of discovery of his first act that creates the suspense, his second mistake will help bring things full circle.
I never read this authors first three, highly rated books because from the many trusted reviews I read I felt they might be too grisly for me. This one was close to perfect. Any author that can create such a feeling of suspense, without resorting to untold violence, descriptions of blood and gore, with characters it is easy to dislike, and do it as well as I thought this author did, is a fantastic writer in my book. The feelings of desperation that haunt Antoine at times, trying to figure out what to do, where to go, were fantastically portrayed. How the author ties up the loose ends and brings everything to a surprising close was amazingly done. Was quite blown away by this book, dark yes but a satisfying read. Just when you think you were ready to give up psychologically twisty novels, one like this comes along, and makes one second guess themselves.

A slow book that crawls along but keeps your attention, even if it's hard to like or identify with the main character. Antoine is a man whose life has been shaped and molded by two terrible decisions twelve years apart. As a child, he lashed out in violence... resulting in the death of a six year old friend. Twelve years later, as a man who has never faced punishment for that crime, he cheats on the woman he loves. Both of these actions irrevocably change his life. Considering how far apart these actions take place, you'd think they'd be spoilers... but they aren't. They're both featured in the blurb for the book. This story isn't really about mystery or suspense, it's about Antoine. He's a man who despite everything, has his freedom, a promising future as a doctor, and the love of a good woman... but can he hold onto them?
An enjoyable piece of noir fiction, and a quick read at just over 200 pages. I read it in two sittings. It was quite different from the books I usually pick up, but I'm glad I did. At times the names and characters were hard to keep track of, so I was happy to read an e-book where I could easily highlight and look back. This book won't be for every mystery fan, but if you're in the mood for a slow burn more character driven and a little different, give it a shot.

Difícil meterle mano a este libro. El planteamiento es simple, en teoría. Tenemos un protagonista que vive angustiado en todo momento, por una terrible acción que comete con sólo 12 años.
Los acontecimientos se van sucediendo, el tiempo pasa, la culpa permanece, pero no aparece el castigo.
¿Qué pasa? ¿Es todo un cúmulo de felices casualidades? ¿existen hilos ocultos que manejan situaciones que nuestro protagonista no conoce? ¿por qué no lo pillan? Ni él mismo lo entiende.
En un entorno provinciano opresivo, los silencios, las medias palabras, a veces ocultan más de lo que parece.
Quizá en el caso de nuestro protagonista, en el pecado lleva la penitencia, aunque esta no parezca excesiva para el pecado cometido.
El final es espléndido y sube muchos puntos la valoración del libro, por lo menos en mi caso. Permite entender lo que solo te atrevías a sospechar.
No es el mejor Lemaitre, pero merece la pena leerlo.

What happens when a bright and imaginative twelve-year-old boy, in an act of rage, accidentally kills a little boy several years younger than himself? It had all started with the death of the dog next door - Ulysses had been run over by a car and shot by its owner, a scene that Antoine unfortunately saw. As his mother would not allow pets, he had come to love Ulysses as his own. Antoine repairs to the forest where he had been building a tree house. Little six-year-old Rémi adores him and follows him to the tree house where Antoine is venting his anger and frustration by destroying all of his handiwork. And this is where the horrible event happens. He decides to push the little body into a nearby ravine.
All of this happens right at the beginning of the book, and takes place in 1999 in a village in France. I don’t want to reveal too much of the story, except to say that by 2011, the second part of the book, he is finalising his studies to become a medical doctor, with the view of working with his girlfriend in humanitarian aid. In the final section of the book Antoine is back in Beauval and has taken over the old doctor’s practice. Due to another impulsive act he has once again derailed his life; beware what you wish for!

Pierre Lemaitre deftly captures the confusion, fear, anxiety, guilt, sorrow, remorse and panic of the twelve-year-old. Plagued by nightmares he sometimes wishes just to get it all over with, to confess and be done with it, but he knows that it will cause a lot of heartache to his mother as well as unwanted media attention, etc. He imagines entire scenes of what would happen. As the years go by he works hard and he thinks more about himself and what he wants in his life.
Lemaitre focuses on the inner life and mental state of Antoine, and he does so superbly. He reveals the maelstrom of emotions that threatens to overwhelm Antoine. There is never a dull moment, and he constantly ramps up the tension with only brief respites in between. He even uses the weather to great effect: a comprehensive search for the child starts in the forest, but they are unable to continue the next day as two cyclones and torrential rain unleash their fury and just about destroy the town. It is almost as if the elements are objecting to the sudden violent death of the little boy.

One of those books that I went blind and was immediately hooked. I really did not want to stop reading it.
The storyline, although slow, is so good, so well developed.
The translator did an amazing job. I don’t think that he missed a word, or the most important, the emotion.
The despair was unbelievable!
To be in a 12 years old boy’s head showed that the author have a great insight of human nature.
The best part of the book is definitely during the protagonist’s young age.
There is a part where there is a storm that was so detailed that I felt that I was witnessing one, but perhaps that part could have been shorter.
The whole book was fascinating.
Such a dark and haunting story.
What a treat!

الرواية جميلة وفكرتها جديدة، لكن القارئ يشعر أن هناك فراغات في الرواية، وبالملل من السرد المُسهب لمعاناة إنطوان. في الجزء الثاني من الرواية تحمل إيميلي بطفل من إنطوان. يستغرب القارئ متى حصل اللقاء بينهما حتى تحمل منه؟ يقرأ الرواية من جديد لعله سهى وقت القراءة، ليتضح له لاحقًا أن المترجم حذف المشاهد الجنسية بناءً على رغبة الناشر.
يقول المترجم غسان لطفي: “لق� حذفت أو اختصرت أو عدلت العديد من المشاهد الجنسية، بناء على رغبة الناشر�.
هل يحق للمترجم أن يخون النص الأصلي للرواية بحذف أو اختصار المشاهد التي لا تروق للناشر؟ هل يحق للناشر أن يكون مراقب أخلاقي نيابةً عن القارئ العربي فيحذف ما يشاء من مشاهد لا تروق له؟

برای آنتوان، که در دل این ماجراها بود، همهچی� با مرگ یک سگ شروع شد، اولیس. دنبال دلیل نگردید که چرا صاحب این سگ، آقای دسمد، نام قهرمانی یونانی را روی آن حیوان دورگه� سفید و حنایی گذاشته بود که از لاغری وقتی روی پنجههای� میایستا� شبیه میخ میشد� این کنجکاوی فقط معمای دیگری به داستان اضافه میکن�.

به بند بالا که بیانگر مرگ سگی بر اثر تصادف در حضور پسری دوازده ساله به نام آنتوان هست دقت کنید چون همه چیز از آنجا شروع می شود،خشمی لحظه ای که عواملی دیگر به تشدید آن کمک می کنند و باعث بروز یک جنایت می شود.

داستان در سه برهه زمانی روایت می شود، بعد از پایان کتاب هرچه فکر کردم متوجه ربط اسم کتاب نشدم ولی بعد به ذهنم رسید که لومتر هر دوره را به مثابه یک روز نگریسته و در پایان زندگی ای که هنوز ادامه دارد.

کتاب سراسر پر از هیجان و تعلیق. مگر پس از شروع کردن آن می شود زمینش گذاشت، اگر برنامه ای که برای خواندنش پیش بینی شده بود، نبود، یک نفس تا انتها میخواندمش تا به حجمه ای از سؤالات بی جوابم پاسخ داده شود. ولی در پایان با مشخص شدن همه چیز شما می مانید و انبوهی از سؤالات که لومتر آن را به عهده ما می گذارد تا بر اساس نگرش و برداشت خود جواب بدهیم. کتاب یک جنایی محض نیست، ملغمه ای از فلسفه و جهانبینی در آن موج می زند. نحوه واکنش و رفتار انسان در برابر گناهان و کنار إمدن با نیرویی درونی به نام وجدان. پایان کتاب شاید می توانست بهتر باشد اگر نمی خواست پند و اندرزگونه باشد و حاوی پیامی روشن و آن هم عشق و عشق. عشق مادر به فرزند، عشق عاشق به معشوق، عشق زن به شوهر.
ترجمه بسیار روان و خوب بود ولی یک مورد خیلی توی ذوقم زد و آن هم جایی از متن مترجم از امتحانات پایان ثلث استفاده کرد، "ثلث" اولا که عربی است و دوما اصلا خود کلمه ترم که ما آن را از زبان انگلیسی وام گرفته ایم بهترین عبارت برای توصیف آن موضوع است، غیر از آن همه چیزش خوب و به جا بود.

گاهی اوقات یک لحظه� فوقالعاد� کوتاه بطور کلی مسیر زندگی ما رو تغییر میده.�
وقتی در نوجوانی و دوازده سالگی دستت به خون یک کودک شش ساله آلوده بشه دیگه هیچ چیز مثل قبل نیست و مهمت� از همه اینکه به تنهایی تعیین کننده� مسیر پیش رو نیستی. مجبور به انتخاب مسیری هستی که کمترین اصطکاک رو با این قتل داشته باشه. اما این راهکار کافی خواهد بود؟
درگیر دوری از این حفره هستی و ناغافل اون داره بهت نزدیک میش�.
از این به بعد حتی از سایه خودت هم میترس� و خواب میله های زندان مرتب آزارت مید� اما زندگی همچنان جریان داره و باید با این مدل جدید خو بگیری ولی آیا رنج در گذر زمان عادی خواهد شد؟
آپدیت: بلافاصله فیلمش رو هم دیدم. نسبتا ضعیف بود درمقایسه با کتاب چون داستان روی احوال روحی آنتوان متمرکز شده و ولی در فیلم خبری از این مورد نیست و فقط خط داستانی رو روایت کرده.

پس چه بهتر از این دوران برای نویسندگان و کارگردانان که بیایند و عصاره ی ترسناکش را استخراج کنند. سه روز و یک زندگی هم در این میان بی نصیب نماند و ترس این دوران را یادآور شد .
{ یکی از نمونه های خوب برمیگردد به یک فیلم کمتر دیده شده به نام سال های خیلی تاریک، فیلم در مورد چندی جوان و نوجوان است که کاملا اتفاقی گردن دوست خویش را میشکافند و ادامه فیلم بیشتر از آن که در مورد توانایی آن ها برای لاپوشانی حقیقت مرگ دوست خود باشد در مورد چگونگی دویدن و فریاد کشیدن آن هاست برای اینکه در این دنیای تینیجری در حال خفه شدند اند }

سه روز و یک زندگی اثر پیر لومتر جنایی نویس فرانسوی ترجمه محمد نجابتی.ددرسال ۱۹۹۹ پسر ۱۲ ساله ای اتفاقی کودکی را به قتل میرساند و.......در حین خواندن تصویر راسکولنیکوف جنایت و مکافات از ذهنم خارج نمیشد تا درپایان جایی دیدم لقب جنایت و مکافات مدرن به کتاب داده شده.

E mai degrabă 3,5. O carte parcă prea scurtă pentru subiectul ales. Am simțit nevoia (culmea!) de mai multe detalii, dar totul a curs atât de rapid, de parcă autorul era limitat în privința numărului de pagini.
O carte despre vină, inocență, noroc și ghinion, despre ciclicitatea vieții și despre coșmaruri care te urmăresc. Finalul ridică mult cartea. Adică ultimele 5 pagini. 🙂

Yo conocía a Pierre Lemaitre de libros como "Vestido de novia" o "Alex", es decir, thrillers "quematramas" con giros locos.
Esta novela no es así. "Tres días y una vida" es más seria, menos thriller, más realista, más "novela". A diferencia de los otros libros de Lemaitre, se puede releer (en sus thrillers no tendría sentido, una vez averiguado el giro no tienen más misterio ni más profundidad).
Y sin embargo, a mí me ha gustado menos que las otras novelas de suspense precisamente porque yo leo a Lemaitre como pasatiempo, por sus giros totalmente locos que bordean la suspensión de la incredulidad. Yo leo a Lemaitre como divertimento y "Tres días y una vida" no es tanto eso. Es más reflexiva, e incluso te deja con peor cuerpo. Porque es más verosímil, es una historia posible, puede ocurrir de verdad. Habla de cómo todo el mundo tiene que vivir en el mundo creado por sus propias decisiones. Sí, incluso aunque el azar pueda tener un peso en tu vida, en lo que te pasa, siempre habrá un momento donde tendrás que tomar una GRAN decisión, y tras haberla tomado todas tus decisiones restantes serán pequeñas (cada vez más pequeñas) y estarán directamente mediatizadas por esa gran decisión. Habla de eso, y de la culpa, y de cómo racionalizamos no ser buenas personas del todo, y de cómo reacciona una persona y una comunidad al crimen, y de por qué alguien puede guardar silencio sobre cosas que la ética nos compele a revelar.
Esta novela sigue teniendo algunos elementos de los thrillers de Lemaitre, aunque no tiene giro sorprendente. Sí tiene una especie de revelación al final, pero no es tanto para sorprender como para reforzar el tema de la novela. Sigue siendo, eso sí, tan fácil de leer como siempre (lo leí en un día y podría haberlo leído en menos tiempo incluso).
Así que sí, "Tres días y una vida" es mejor novela que los demás libros de Lemaitre que he leído, objetivamente lo es, pero ha mí me ha gustado menos, porque yo leo a este autor por entretenimiento y luego olvidarme de la historia y esta vez no ha pasado, esta vez lo que cuenta me ha afectado más y yo no tenía el momento para leer algo así.

Lo leí pensando que era una novela negra, dadas las etiquetas que le puso el propio ŷ y sufrí un poco el efecto que produce el llevarte a la boca lo que crees agua y sentir las chispitas burbujeantes de la Coca-cola. La primera reacción es de rechazo ante el sabor y la textura inesperadas... pero luego me atrapó... después me perdió, pero no del todo.
La infancia de pueblo pequeño de este chico está muy bien narrada, así como el punto de vista de un niño en edad de empezar a plantearse alguna cosa. El accidente convertido en calvario y sus consecuencias a lo largo de toda una vida.
Todo lo del niño acosado por los acontecimientos que lo cercaban me encantó, aunque no fuera lo que esperaba cuando abrí el libro, pero la parte adulta ya no tanto. Da la sensación de que el niño que describe debería haber evolucionado a un adulto más complejo, pero seguía siendo ese niño solo que en la situación de un adulto. El niño con bigote de feria. Eso hizo toda la parte adulta algo floja en relación a su infancia.
En conjunto lo he disfrutado, aunque no esté para mi gusto, a la altura de otros Lemaitre. GL (Lamaitre negro)

This one is very, VERY different from Lemaitre's previous books. Reviewing it was actually so difficult -- I review every book from a crime reader perspective, and this book most likely won't be the right choice for crime readers. It's better understood as an interpersonal drama and a portrait of a man growing up under the burden of a terrible secret from his childhood. I highly recommend Lemaitre's backlist for crime fiction readers (BLOOD WEDDING is absolutely brilliant!), but definitely read my full review before purchasing this one.

De nuevo Pierre Lemaitre con una excelente novela publicada en 2016 que ha sido la segunda en tener el honor de ser llevada al cine. La película se estrenó en salas francesas en 2019.
La historia se desarrolla en un pueblo donde vive Antoine, un niño de 12 años. Este chico es bastante solitario, vive con su madre ya que su padre hace mucho tiempo que está en Alemania y lo ve muy poco. Prefiere estar más veces sólo que acompañado salvo con un perro, Ulises. Un desgraciado accidente acabará con su fiel amigo y con la estabilidad de Antoine.
A partir de ese momento, una serie de acontecimientos va a hacer temblar al chico que ve como su mundo se viene abajo. Lemaitre nos hace entrar en la mente de Antoine, nos hace participe de su angustia, su desesperación, sus planes como si fuese una persona mayor, su refugio en si mismo, sus temores, o su rabia. Es fácil que el lector tenga empatía por el chico a pesar de lo que está ocurriendo.
A pesar del drama, Lemaitre siempre deja notas de humor por toda la historia introduciendo diálogos graciosos y situaciones un tanto cómicas, como una misa a la que va todo el pueblo y en la que el cura se luce.

Encore une fois Pierre Lemaitre avec un excellent roman publié en 2016 qui a été le deuxième à avoir eu l'honneur d'être porté au cinéma. Le film est sorti dans les salles de cinéma françaises en 2019.
L'histoire se déroule dans un village où vit Antoine, un garçon de 12 ans. Ce garçon est assez solitaire, il vit avec sa mère car son père est en Allemagne depuis longtemps et il le voit rarement. Il préfère être seul plus souvent qu'en compagnie, à l'exception d'un chien, Ulysse. Un malheureux accident met fin à son ami fidèle et à la stabilité d'Antoine.
A partir de ce moment, une série d'événements va secouer le garçon qui voit son monde s'écrouler. Lemaitre nous fait entrer dans la tête d'Antoine, il nous fait participer à ses angoisses, à son désespoir, à ses projets de vieillard, à son refuge en lui-même, à ses peurs, à sa rage. Il est facile pour le lecteur d'éprouver de l'empathie pour le garçon malgré ce qui se passe.
Malgré le drame, Lemaitre laisse toujours des notes d'humour tout au long du récit en introduisant des dialogues amusants et des situations quelque peu cocasses, comme une messe à laquelle tout le village assiste et où le prêtre sort de son quotidien.

Man sollte auf keinen Fall einen Thriller oder Mystery Roman erwarten, denn es ist ein sehr ruhiges Buch, dass sich nach dem Verschwinden des kleinen Rémi fast ausschließlich um die Gedanken und Gefühle des 12-jährigen Antoine dreht. Dessen Leben verändert sich durch diesen dramatischen Vorfall grundlegend und seine Gedanken kreisen unentwegt um dieses eine Thema. Auch weil er sich niemandem anvertrauen kann.
Das kann ermüdend und langweilig wirken, weil alles spannende bereits in den ersten 50 Seiten geschieht und die darauffolgende Gedankenspirale von Antoine wenig Abwechslung bietet, aber genau das fand ich gut. Denn die Geschichte zeigt ganz unerbittlich, dass Antoines Leben an diesem einen Tag im Wald zerstört wurde obwohl ihm selbst gar nichts geschah. Diese toxische Mischung aus Schuld, Angst, Mitgefühl und Trauer überschattet sein gesamtes weiteres Leben und beeinflusst vieles das ihm widerfährt.
Beim Lesen bekam ich das Gefühl, dass sich dieses Buch gut als Schullektüre eignen würde um das Thema Schuld zu bearbeiten.

This was one of those 'hook, line and sinker' kind of books. I had to get used to the fact that the story is solely told from one perspective but that didn't take long because I really felt like I couldn't read fast enough, couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out how life would turn out for Antoine, knowing fine well that there was something lurking in the dark ... I actually laughed when the ending unraveled, simply because I was so surprised! A very good read, not as dark as I feared and original in plot and character development!

Empiezo a pensar que este señor puede escribir la guía de teléfonos y que a mí me va a parecer maravilloso también.
Refleja muy bien los dos momentos en la vida del protagonista, preadolescente y ya con veintipico años. Y la vida en sitios pequeños con la importancia de las apariencias.
Recomendable.

Διαβάζεται απνευστί!!! Μια τραγική υπόθεση με την οποία το βιβλίο ξεκινά και ξεδιπλώνει σταδιακά τον ψυχισμό των πρωταγωνιστών. Ένα ανέλπιστο τέλος, αλλά τελικά ήρθε η λύτρωση?

I'm having a little bit of a struggle coming up with the words to describe how I feel about this one. Clearly, I enjoyed it, but I can't quite work out what it was about it that I liked so much, and then how I can get that across in my review. Let's go through this one step at a time...
This book is very much about neighbourly relationships. It's based in the small village of Beauval where everyone knows everyone, there are friends in the village and there are enemies. They live everyday surrounded by people who know everything about them. There are a load of books about the small-town-mentality at the moment, it's clearly a very "in" thing for authors at the moment. Some of them I like, others I find boring or distressing. This one was just perfect for me!
We begin the novel in 1999 and this is where we get most of the small-town vibes. We meet Antoine and his mother, whose only worry is to keep up with appearances. We meet the neighbours, the Desmedt's and Mouchottes. We meet the town butcher, Monsieur Kowalski. We meet the Weiser's - the mayor and his son Theo. We meet a lot of different people, but they all have a very important role to play within the story.
It's the 23rd December 1999 and little Remi Desmedt has gone missing. There are plenty of the theories as to his disappearance, but we know what's happened to him, and we know where he is. What follows is a slow paced novel about the effects of Remi's disappearance on the town and the theories and judgments each villager makes on anyone suspected of having taken the young boy.

It was enjoyable to follow the story through Antoine's mind-set, who is 12 at the time. But as we move through the story, we meet Antoine again in 2011 and then again in 2015, but these parts of the book aren't as enjoyable to read.
As we progress through the novel, Antoine keeps coming up against challenges he needs to overcome. Will he do the right thing, or will he do anything to keep his secrets close?
Like I said before, this novel is slow paced, but I quite like that in a books sometimes. This is advertised as a thriller but I wouldn't think of is like that, this feels more like a general fiction novel to be honest. This was also described as "suspenseful", but again, I'm going to disagree with that. See what I mean about not being able to describe my feelings on it? I'm at a loss for words on what I feel this books was like! What I can say is that I love Lemaitre's way of writing. It really sucked me into the story and for this reason, I'm definitely checking out his other stuff!
Something I also know is that I enjoyed this book, for the most part. If it hadn't been for the 2011 and 2015 chapters, and the direction they took, this could have been a 5 star read for me.
This book is very much about neighbourly relationships. It's based in the small village of Beauval where everyone knows everyone, there are friends in the village and there are enemies. They live everyday surrounded by people who know everything about them. There are a load of books about the small-town-mentality at the moment, it's clearly a very "in" thing for authors at the moment. Some of them I like, others I find boring or distressing. This one was just perfect for me!
We begin the novel in 1999 and this is where we get most of the small-town vibes. We meet Antoine and his mother, whose only worry is to keep up with appearances. We meet the neighbours, the Desmedt's and Mouchottes. We meet the town butcher, Monsieur Kowalski. We meet the Weiser's - the mayor and his son Theo. We meet a lot of different people, but they all have a very important role to play within the story.
It's the 23rd December 1999 and little Remi Desmedt has gone missing. There are plenty of the theories as to his disappearance, but we know what's happened to him, and we know where he is. What follows is a slow paced novel about the effects of Remi's disappearance on the town and the theories and judgments each villager makes on anyone suspected of having taken the young boy.

Το «Τρείς μέρες, μια ζωή» είναι το πρώτο βιβλίο του Pierre Lemaitre που πέφτει στα χέρια μου. Ένιωθα κάπως παράξενα όταν το ξεκίνησα, είχα ακούσει τα καλύτερα για τον συγγραφέα αλλά είχα καιρό να διαβάσω γαλλική λογοτεχνία και δεν ήξερα εάν ήταν του γούστου μου πλέον. Τώρα τελευταία έχω αρχίσει να αντιλαμβάνομαι πως οι προτιμήσεις μου στα βιβλία έχουν αλλάξει και φοβάμαι ότι αυτά που κάποτε θα τα λάτρευα τώρα θα με αφήσουν αδιάφορη. Στην περίπτωση του μυθιστορήματος αυτού η αλήθεια βρίσκεται κάπου στην μέση. Ναι, μου άρεσε αλλά δεν με συγκίνησε όπως θα έκανε άλλοτε. Πάντα στις κριτικές μου � ή όπως θέλουν να τις αποκαλούν μερικοί απλή έκθεση των απόψεων μου � προσπαθώ να δώσω τόσο τα θετικά όσο και τα αρνητικά στοιχεία του βιβλίου όσο πιο ξεκάθαρα μπορώ.
Ο Pierre Lemaitre έγραψε ένα βιβλίο που δεν ταιριάζει ξεκάθαρα σε ένα είδος λογοτεχνίας. Είναι κοινωνικό, με στοιχεία μυστηρίου αλλά και suspense. Ο κεντρικός ήρωας είναι ένα 12χρόνο παιδί με το όνομα Αντουάν ο οποίος μας χαρίζει στιγμές πολύ έντονες και κλειστοφοβικές. Τον βρήκα αρκετά συμπαθητικό και θεωρώ πως η επιλογή του συγγραφέα να μας εξιστορήσει την ιστορία σε τρίτο πρόσωπο βοήθησε πολύ σε αυτό. Βλέπεις το χαρακτήρα του να εξελίσσεται μέσα από τις δραματικές καταστάσεις στις οποίες εμπλέκεται και βιώνεις συχνά μαζί του τα διάφορα συναισθήματα που γεννιούνται μέσα του. Είναι ο μοναδικός χαρακτήρας που πραγματικά δέθηκα μαζί του, όλοι οι άλλοι μου φάνηκαν κάπως άνευροι, χάρτινοι, τέλος πάντων δεν τους ένιωσα πραγματικούς.
Η ιστορία χωρίζεται σε δύο μέρη, με το πρώτο να είναι αρκετά μεγαλύτερο και στο δεύτερο κομμάτι της ιστορίας ο Αντουάν είναι ενήλικος. Το πρώτο κομμάτι μου άρεσε αρκετά πιο πολύ, θεωρώ πως τα γεγονότα που διαδραματίστηκαν έχουν πολύ περισσότερο ενδιαφέρον όταν βλέπεις πως τα χειρίζεται η ψυχολογία ενός παιδιού. Αλλά σίγουρα έχει και ενδιαφέρον να δεις πως αυτά επηρέασαν και τον ενήλικα. Το τέλος είναι κατανοητό, συμφωνώ με τα συμπεράσματα που βγήκαν στο τέλος. Η ψυχολογία ενός ανθρώπου, το ένστικτο της αυτοσυντήρησης..όλα αυτά έπαιξαν τον ρόλο τους πολύ όμορφα.
Υπήρξαν κάποια στοιχεία μέσα στο βιβλίο που δεν μου άρεσαν, προς το τέλος κυρίως. Μερικές φορές γινόταν πολύ μονότονο, ήταν να σα βρίσκεσαι σε ένα δωμάτιο χωρίς παράθυρο· γινόταν πνιγηρό. Ήταν αρκετά καταθλιπτικό!
Σε τελική ανάλυση μετά από δύο βδομάδες που το διάβασα σχεδόν έχω αρκετά θετικά να πω και συνεχίζω να θέλω να το προτείνω σε ανθρώπους, όποτε ήταν μια ευχάριστη αναγνωστική εμπειρία!

Was für ein Reinfall!!! Ich hatte mich so gefreut, weil dieses Buch doch eigentlich ganz gute Bewertungen hat.
Leider hat es sich für mich so dargestellt, dass es durchaus reicht, die ersten 3-4 Kapitel zu lesen. Danach passiert einfach nichts mehr, was die Geschichte voran treibt. Ich bin dran geblieben, weil ich auf ein Knaller-Ende hoffte - aber leider Fehlanzeige. Der Schreibstil ist dermaßen belanglos, dass er zum Überfliegen geradezu einlädt.
Den Protagonisten kommt man nicht wirklich nahe, da ein Erzähler alles aus der 3. Person erläutert. Man springt oft sehr wirr zwischen den Personen, sowie deren "Hätte-Könnte-Würde"-Gedanken und der Realität hin und her - aber nichts führt zu irgendeinem Ziel.
Ich hatte das Gefühl, ein langweiliges Leben eines unauffälligen Durchschnittstypen zu verfolgen, dem in der Kindheit etwas wirklich Erschütterndes passiert ist.
Das Komische ist aber, dass ich tatsächlich glaube, das weitere Leben dieses jungen Mannes wäre nicht anders verlaufen, wenn das Ereignis nicht stattgefunden hätte. Wirklich enttäuschend.

In my (humble, of course... ) opinion, naturalness is one of the most important qualities for a writer. Some of them are artificial, superficial and foreseeable and quite a few are genuine and unpredictable in their thread. Lemaitre it's quite a Master in this area and excepting perhaps the happy-endings, his books have all you wish for.
So, try this one and you will love the author...

الرواية جميلة وفكرتها جديدة، لكن القارئ يشعر أن هناك فراغات في الرواية، وبالملل من السرد المُسهب لمعاناة إنطوان. في الجزء الثاني من الرواية تحمل إيميلي بطفل من إنطوان. يستغرب القارئ متى حصل اللقاء بينهما حتى تحمل منه؟ يقرأ الرواية من جديد لعله سهى وقت القراءة، ليتضح له لاحقًا أن المترجم حذف المشاهد الجنسية بناءً على رغبة الناشر.
يقول المترجم غسان لطفي: “لق� حذفت أو اختصرت أو عدلت العديد من المشاهد الجنسية، بناء على رغبة الناشر�.
هل يحق للمترجم أن يخون النص الأصلي للرواية بحذف أو اختصار المشاهد التي لا تروق للناشر؟ هل يحق للناشر أن يكون وصي أخلاقي نيابةً عن القارئ العربي؟

Domas par pirmo franču rakstnieka Pjēra Lemetra latviski tulkoto grāmatu man ir grūti ietērpt vārdos. Stāsts ir par 12 gadīgu zēnu Antuānu, kurš apstākļu sakritības dēļ kļūst par slepkavu. Briesmīgi, vai ne? Tomēr autors ne brīdi netiesā un neizdara secinājumus mūsu vietā. Tajā paša laikā katrs vārds tik precīzi atspoguļo to domu un emociju virpuli, kurā nonāk viena jauna cilvēka dzīve.
Sev uzdevu jautājumus - kurā brīdī nodarījums kļūst par noziegumu? Atzīšanās ir beigas vai tikai sākums? Vai cilvēka likteni veido apzināti pieņemto lēmumu vai tomēr netīši pieļauto kļūdu kopsumma?
Fonā Antuāna dzīvei bērnībā un pēc tam pieauguša vīrieša vecumā - mazs Francijas ciemats un tā iemītnieki, kuri tāpat kā Antuāns izdzīvo gan cilvēcīgu vājību radītu intrigām caurvītu ikdienu, gan katastrofu, kura burtiski sagriež gaisā visa ciemata dzīvi. Cilvēciskai traģēdijai vienmēr ir vairāk nekā viena seja.
Stāsts ir izstāstīts, netrūkst arī pāris negaidītu pavērsienu - tomēr atbilžu patiesībā nav. Tās mums kā lasītājiem ir jāatrod pašiem.

Otra vez más, Lemaitre nos lía. Narración "pequeña", muy intimista... Pero con un giro final insospechado, que sorprende y hace encajar, de golpe, todo lo expuesto en las páginas anteriores.
