I tried to like Furious more tgan 2 stars. But I can't. The writting is sloppy. The wording needs editing. The story is too plain.

The chemistry is cold and miss Mathewson fails to bring the swoony feeling. It really nothing to feel in the story.

F*%k no. The teaser at the end of first book this hero is another massive dickhole who also likes to call women bitches.
Now I wonder if men in this author’s life have always called her bitch?
Verbal abuse is not cute. Its disgusting and disturbing that at this point readers are finding this cute.

I hated the name Pookie

He called her Pookie one too many times for me. First time it was funny but by the 50th one I was over it. This book was good but not as good as her neighbors from hell books. It had cute moments and by the end I really loved the hero. Sloane was amazing too. I loved her from the beginning. She was just too cute. Chase was a fireman who had been seriously injured trying to save some children. He was unable to move his legs and in a wheelchair. That was heartbreaking. He had totally stopped living and was just sitting around drinking beer and eating Doritos. Lol she made him want to live again and walk again too. She totally forced him back to life. He didn't want to love her because he was afraid he'd lose her. But it all ended well and the epilogue was great.

This was such an enjoyable story and an incredible love story of Sloane and Chase.

Yes, Chase was a total ass through the beginning of the book while Sloane just took it over and over again. But she persevered and incredibly wiped the anger from Chase and showed him that love was possible again.

3.5 stars rounded up

I didn't love it but I liked it a helluva lot.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't a fan of the beginning of the story because it felt... idk, kinda clunky to me.
Plus, all the other characters made me somewhat confused but I guess that's my fault as I didn't read the first book in the series.

But once I got past that, I must admit that I inhaled it in one sitting because I actually enjoyed the story and I liked the characters.
Plus, the steam was good.
And I loved the ending so I'm rounding it up.

This is my first read from this author but I gotta admit that I am intrigued.
The writing didn't floor me but it was actually pretty good.
And so I need to read more books from her asap. :)

Representations: Hero was in a wheelchair for a majority of the novel, a side character is also in a wheelchair

Overall: 2.75/5 stars

I understand why a lot of people would not enjoy Furious; the Hero spends the first ~20% of the novel verbally abusing *everyone* (men and women) he comes into contact with. While not condonable, after reading his perspective, I understood. He’s been in his wheelchair and dependent on the help of his in-home nurse for months before meeting the Heroine. And, he alludes to how many of those nurses took advantage of their position and went out of their way to abuse him, fully aware he couldn’t protect himself. It was sickening.

A few reviewers were annoyed how the relationship between the MCs became very similar to those seen in her Neighbor From Hell series. I liked their banter and how silly they were together, but I, too, got annoyed that the superficial jokes were prioritized over a deep connection. They never talked about his ex-fiancée or the fact that his best friend betrayed him. Also, there was never a discussion about the kids he lost in the fire that injured him.

While the romance was sweet, and I liked how the Hero wasn’t fixated on his ex-fiancée anymore, I got angry when the Hero got the Heroine fired from her job. He did it so that she wouldn’t have anywhere else to go after he refused to admit his feelings for her; he, therefore, had time to make a grand apology 🙄. But he didn’t consider how losing her license would mean everything she worked for since graduating would be ruined: she’s now blackballed in the industry for having a sexual relationship with a patient, and who would hire her knowing her past? It doesn’t matter if she hated her job! Getting any jobs in the medical community would be challenging if she has this label on her file. Sure, she gets a position at the therapy centre she was volunteering at—but it meant being reliant on her boyfriend’s word to get a job. She’s lost autonomy. She could’ve easily quit without ruining her reputation.

Finally, I get that the author wanted a funny bit between the Heroine, Hero and all the kids they come in contact with throughout the novel (both their nieces and nephew and the kids at the treatment centre) *but* telling the kids the Hero got his scars from the Heroine beating him was just not funny. It was supposed to be a joke, but it came across as inappropriate, especially when I discovered two of the treatment centre kids have a history of parental abuse. No wonder the girl hated the Heroine—she’s *lived* through what the Hero was joking about!

Most annoying moment:

Overall, I can see this book being well-received *and* not enjoyed. The romance was cute. I debated rating the novel 3-stars because of the sweet romance, but I realized while writing this review that there were too many little details I found problematic.

Safety Rating: Safe with Exceptions

I'll just dive right in.
PRO :
- The writing. I will always love the way R.L narative voice sounds like. This was the main reason for the 3 stars.
CON (maybe small spoilers) :
- I expected not another Bradford story, but more then 50% of the book felt like I was back reading the Neighbor From Hell series. Don't get me wrong, I love NFH, but I wished R.L Mathewson took another approach to this book
- I didn't connect with the h . In the beginning I was intrigued by both of them and really wanted to see their journey, how the characters grow and how the storyline unfolds but in the end i was disappointed to discover that the h is the typical good girl, with the hart of gold that is full of insecurities, takes immature decision and is unable to have a serious conversation with H about them, their plans and future even though she is 29 years old.
- The H was the hurt man that gives up on life. It took maybe 2 weeks for him to start changing back to the man that he was because of h. And he became acting like another Bradford man. He was also uncappable to have a serious and mature conversation with the woman who lived with him for months. They were almost 24/7 together and all they did was have sex, eat, glare at each other, h siting in H's lap (it annoyed the crap out of me) and always thinking about how great it was bwtween them and coming out with reasons ( stupid ones) to not have a real relationship .
- Didn't like the hole Amy plot. If it was to justify H's insecurities about commitment, it could've been better executed
- Didn't like how his sister had just 3 mentions in the book. Supposedly the sister and H had a very close relationship before the accident but even after when the H made some real efforts to overcome his problems, he doesn't reach out to his sister or nephews (he was there for their births)
- I would have loved to see more of her brothers and his old firefighters partners
- Didn't like the verbally abuse in the beginning
- NO to the Hell for the stund H pulled with h at the airport scene
Overall it seamed like it was put together from different scenes written separately and glue togheter by a predictable plot line. The time jumps didn't help.
It can be read as a stand-alone.
This book was not great for me but I think it will be another success for R.L and I will continue to read anything that she writes.

Okay so while I do enjoy these books a lot, I feel like I miss something. The book skips past a lot of moments that make the relationship make sense but we go from the characters feeling one way or doing one thing and LEAP into 'the next step'. One minute these two are fighting and the next she's on his lap and they're asking "what is this?".

This happened more in this book than the last and it really broke the story up for me between what I felt should be happening vs what was actually happening. It was still enjoyable but I felt we were moving full speed ahead without any indications at all.

A firefighter and a home healthcare nurse...

Chase, a severely injured firefighter, has some major anger issues coping with his new circumstances in life. Sloane is his last resort nurse before his family resorts to a nursing home.
The biggest difference between this and the previous anger management novel is the h being almost unfailingly positive. Her joy, optimism, and determination can be almost felt through the words of this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found myself smiling at it more than the humor.
As a side note - I am the wife of a firefighter. I avoid books about firefighters. They are often so unrealistic that it drives me crazy. Yours isn't.
My husband was injured at one time, but not as severely as this. His year and a half unable to work drove him (and me) crazy. Ms. Mathewson got the despair and anger I know he would had if he was in these circumstances just right.
On an even more important note, my husband has also been unable to save babies in the line of duty, and the nightmares haunt him. Ms. Mathewson, I know you likely had trouble getting everything that you did about the anxiety and depression a firefighter has over something like that into this book, but you did a really good job without making the book depressing. Thanks for handling it the way you did.

The beginning was really bad, calling women bitches just because he's angry is not sexy ... I really do feel for his situation and i know that it's a fact that a lot of handicaped people got treated like garbage. But insulting others just when you meet them ... yeah it was awkward and not good.

After that the story picked up annnd we fall back into a Neighbor from hell style book. I mean the story AND the vocabulary. You guessed it, if your familiar with this author work, all these words are back and repeated a hundred times by chapters : absently, mumbling, yawning and many others... And the "new" thing here was the h spending her time on the H lap.

I mean some things can be cute, but i feel like it's always the same thing from this author, to the point of having "déjà vu" all along the book.

I suppose it's a mark of fabrick but now, for me her books are just a distraction, something to read to kinda entertain when i want to read something very familiar and not think ... But please, a little evolvement in the vocabulary would be great, or at least not that many repetitions.

I really wasn't sure about this one at the start, Chase was such an ass and Sloane didn't seem like she needed that in her life. I liked that she was determined to help Chase, because honestly he needed it, needed someone he wouldn't steamroll over and to push back when he was an ass. Things didn't change over night, but slowly they did. I think the way that Sloan treated Chase helped, she treated him like a normal man, one who had some extra challenges.

I liked when things changed for them, first to friendship, then to more. I hated it when towards the end both Chase and Sloane were too afraid to say how much they loved the other, too scared to loose what they had, yet by not acknowledging things that is just what happened, both lost big. Quickly though Chase managed to get his head out of his ass and go for Sloane, which led to them getting everything they ever wanted and more.

I loved this book! I am not sure how RLM manages to make her assholes so likable but I have to say I think Chase was far less of an asshole than Hunter (AM#1).

Chase is disabled after a building collapses on him during a fire when he is rescuing two children. They . He is angry, filthy (literally) and in danger of being placed into institutional care by family when Sloane is the last one standing at an interview to be his home carer.

He warms to Sloane fairly quickly even if it was just the joy he got in making her life miserable but she never seems all that fussed by it (probably having so many older brothers helped!). As they grow closer, it seems to become almost a running joke about how torments her but honestly, it never seems vindictive which is the saving grace I think for RLM - her assholes are assholes predominantly by circumstance rather than out of a motivation to just be cruel and humiliate the female MCs. The way he got small children to hate her was actually kind of hilarious.

It got 4 stars from me and would have gone to 5 if there had maybe been a bit deeper exploration of why Sloane was so gun shy about love and .

I can't wait for Grey's book!

After an accident leaves Chase broken and shut off from everyone, his sister decides she has had enough. She gives him the choice either to have a live in caregiver or send him to a place he will despise.

Sloan is not a push over, in fact she gets down to business right away despite Chase's best effort to get her to quit. They form a friendship of sorts over time and Chase begins to realize he has more to live for then he thought. The only bright spot in his life has come from Sloan, he wants her, he needs her but will his battered heart let him love her?

I was not sure how the second book in the Anger Management series would go because I loved the first book so much it had such a bar to follow up to for me. Let me just say this exceeded my expectation and I so hope there is a book for some Sloan's brothers, loved her family. This had heartbreak, humor, and inspiration especially where Chase is concerned. Would reread again today it was that good.

Once again R.L. Mathewson wrote a book you can't put down until you turn the last page

Chase a Firefighter had become a recluse after a horrific fire he was seriously hurt in and losing two children he was trying to save. Sloane was the home nurse that took on the job to help Chase come back to the living after everyone else was afraid of Chase and his bad attitude. As Sloane ignored Chase's deteremation to quit living and learning to help himself slowly she wins his trust and his heart even as he denys his feeling for her. Sloane realized her feelings for him will cost her the job she was hired to do. This book was so good. I laughed, cried, felt Chase's frustration and just enjoyed the hell out of this story! As usual Ms. Mathewson includes interesting others characters into the story you want to read about in their own books. Loved this book and love this Author

I had a lot of problems with this book, I was really looking forward to reading it, but I end up a lot disappointed. I even took a long break from it because I thought about DNF it, but I managed to get back into it and finished it, and I still hated soo much about this book.

I thought it was gonna be a book about a man in a wheelchair & him learning to accept his new life in his wheelchair, but it literally doing everything I hated about books like this. I was afraid that it was gonna turn into him learning to walk again by a miracle and be "cure" which sent a message that I hate. I was really looking forward to it, but it making me a bit angry and annoyed.

I really wish I could give it more stars... but no..

SPOILER

Recommendation: No, Overall I hated it, I hated so much about this book, so that is why I only gave it 1 star, I keep hoping that it would be better, but it just never did, it actually did become worst at some point, would I recommend this? NO definitely not, special not if you are in a wheelchair. Just do yourself a favor and don't pick it up. The worst part overshadows the good part so much that it is not worth it, cause there was some good part in the book, but the bad part was on like on 10 out of 10 and the good part was like on a 2, maybe 3 out of 10 sometimes. so it never gets even out.

“She wanted him, probably more than she’d ever wanted any other man, but she’d never been any good at this. She didn’t even know if she could handle something like this and she wasn’t sure that she was willing to risk what she had with him for something that might not last past the morning. She just wanted- ‘What if the only thing I want is what you can give me?’

Late 20 something year old Sloane Maxwell has returned home to Florida in hopes of getting a paying job to stay awhile. Her family wants to put her up, but she prefers her space. Even if that means being a live in nurse with a difficult client.

The hero was awful. He was just plain mean. Sure he had some bad shit happen, but he took out on everyone. The heroine was amazing. It was hard seeing her put up with the jerk. He didn’t deserve her. The storyline pops around a little bit. It intertwined with book #1 in a way that I didn’t super like. It’s almost like the storyline wasn’t enough on its own and familiar characters were brought in to bridge the gap.

Cliffhanger no (book #2 in series)

This is one of the few books by Ms. Mathewson that I haven't enjoyed. It reminded me of the historical book with all the pranks. To me, pranks are mean spirited and they don't make me laugh, which is what I read a R.L. Mathewson book for. The characters were missing the insouciance that marks her writing. Furious is a contemporary about a man who has had his life stripped from him and is in despair at spending his life in a wheelchair. He has turned that despair into anger and has become a miserable human being to be around. The heroine is a nurse who comes to take care of him. She is good and persistent despite being the butt of the hero's pranks. I thought the sex scenes were unlikely unless he was doing it all with his stomach muscles.

In summary, it's a reasonable contemporary novel, but not a good R.L. Mathewson one.

I forgot to review this one. Mathewson is one of my go to authors, I love the way she writes her men, moody, cranky but still very sweet at the core.

I liked this book, the only thing she misses in most of her books is a good conflict or more angst. Some of her books have it, this one and the other one in this series didnt. Its not too bad cuz sometimes u need the lighter stuff.

This one had a beautiful comfy dynamics, great female hero who is a nurse that lives in to help care for the male hero who hates his current state.

Furious is book two in the Anger Management series by R.L. Mathewson. It's also another great read.

Summary:
Homecare nurse, Sloane Maxwell needs to keep her new job. Too bad hating the patient really works against that end goal. She needs to view this as just another job. But she can feel herself becoming a little too involved with her patient's outcome. This could very well be the case that destroys her. In more ways than one. Chase lost everything in the blink of an eye. Since that one heart shaking, body breaking moment, he's struggled to go on or even want to fight to go on. He hates who he's become, the memories that won't let his mind rest, and the knowledge that the life he envisioned for himself is longer within his reach. In the year since his life was blasted apart, only one thing has given him hope. Or rather one person. He can have her for a while, but Sloane is the one woman he can't keep. He can't take the risk of losing her and his life crumbling once again. Can he?

I didn't want to put this book down. I was pulled into the story from the first heartbreaking word, and enjoyed every minute as it unfolded. Chase was not nice in the beginning. Not at all. I hated him then, but I also understood. He was angry, in pain, had been betrayed, and felt worthless and inadequate because of his injuries. Do I think that excuses his behavior? No, but it explains it. After getting to know Chase, I liked him more. He was hardworking, dedicated, caring, and loyal. All that was just hidden under a layer of asshole and grief. Sloane was amazing. I loved her determination, caring, and confident personality. She truly cared for her patients, wanting them only to succeed. I also loved her approach to helping Chase. She wasn't a pushover, but she also didn't make him suffer unnecessarily, giving Chase no choice but to be buoyed by her optimism. Together they were cute, a little devious, and funny. I think Chase surprised Sloane in that she never expected to find what she didn't know she was looking for. As for Chase, Sloane was everything he'd always wanted and thought he had, but didn't. I also liked that their relationship was built on a friendly form of torment. Overall, Chase and Sloane's story had everything I look for in a book. There are some heartbreaking parts, some humorous parts, some steamy parts, and most importantly, some inspirational parts. Chase had a lot to overcome and I think Rylie did an amazing job of portraying his feelings of anxiety, depression, and fear for someone in his situation. Being a nurse, I connected with both Chase and Sloane, understanding the hardships they both faced. Rylie's goal with this series was to show how people who have gone through hell, can still find and learn to love, coming out the other side to be happy, but doing all of this staying true to who she is as a writer. She succeeded above and beyond that goal, and I cannot wait to read more in this series as well as hopefully see a spinoff for a few of the side characters (ahem...Sloane's brothers).

Steam Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This was an enjoyable read. At first, Chase was the biggest a-hole and it was unbearable how infuriating he was, however, even though there will never be enough excuses as to being a jerk, you'd begin to understand where all his anger, hopelessness, and despair were coming from. It was really delightful to watch him come out of his shell and become, or at least be close, to the man he once was—which was a genuinely good man. A hero.

Sloane was honestly the best. She was exactly what Chase needed at the lowest point in his life. She was strong, never letting Chase treat her like a doormat, and very caring at the same time. She teased and bantered with him so easily, and sometimes gave him the hard shove that he needed while treating him the best and helping him not only physically but also to go on in his life. I also loved her chaotically fun family.

I adored how Sloane and Chase started to become close and affectionate with each other. Their relationship smoothly transitioned from being filled with hostility, indifference, and to that very warm affection, care, and love.

Though Chase was still very much stubborn until the end, I felt happy for him through his journey and how he overcame the challenges that he once thought he would never escape from. I'm just left with a smile with how they both ended up living the life that they deserve and finding happiness with each other.

Also, can I just say, the covers of the books in this series do not do them justice. There's more depth in them than the smexy times and the rock-hard abs. Lol

Funny but emotional too!

No cliffhanger
Standalone though part of a larger series
Told from multiple POVs
Love, loss and laughter.

I absolutely love this author and how she is able to write such compelling, beautiful love stories while also cracking me up. Very rarely do you read books that can make you laugh out loud and ugly cry too.

Chase is a fire fighter fighting for his life after being hurt during a rescue. After months in a coma he awakens to find out that nothing is at how he remembers it. His fiancé left him for his best friend and he might never walk again. After months of stewing and giving up on life his sister hires a live-in nurse to help him get his life back in order...whether he likes it or not.

Sloane is that nurse and she doesn’t care what Chase throws at her, she needs this job and doesn’t plan to go anywhere.

After months of anger and rage, Chase starts to find joy in making Sloane’s life a living h**l. That spirals into an odd friendship of pranks, and hysterical banter.

Finally living his life again, Chase’s attraction to Sloane grows and eventually boils over, but he refuses to ever love a woman again. He knows he would never survive losing someone else in his life that was supposed to love him.

I don’t want to give anything else away but if you are looking for a book that will touch on all your emotions and has a beautiful ending, this is the one!

I can’t wait for Grey’s book!

Pfiewww, that was crazy ! I can't count the number of times I cried 😭 this series ENDED ME !!

FURIOUS was FANTABULOUS 😍 !!

" Don't touch her ! "- Chase.

Chase :

He had become the shadow of a man he once was. After losing the ability to walk, being abandoned and betrayed by the woman he loved alongside his best friend, he simply lost his will of living. Chase stopped caring for himself, and cut all ties with people he used to call family. He was angry 24/7, and couldn't help but hate and pity himself. But everything changed, after a certain personal care attendant appeared, igniting a flame in him he thought long extinguished. Angry at the WORLD ! But not at her 😍

Sloane :

She was fierce and always up for a challenge. It was no surprise when she accepted the job, because she KNEW she could handle it. She was certain she could make the grumpy guy stop feeling sorry for himself, and start changing his life. Sloane had just the right method to push the right buttons, and her efforts paid off pretty well. But what can you do when you start caring for a patient, and get involved with them more than you should ?

I literally sobbed during the last few chapters 💔 this book is a MASTERPIECE that deserves more recognition ! My favorite parts were when Chase would tease Sloane for his own entertainment 🤣 he was PURE EVIL lol AND the One Bed Trope is included as well, so that's a bonus

Furious by R. L. Mathewson is the second book in her Anger Management series and to say that I was excited for this book is an understatement, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint, in fact, it was AMAZING!

Oh Chase, sweet, angry, grumpy, curmudgeon of a Chase. My heart went out to him and I just wanted to give him the biggest hug even though he'd scoff and act like he didn't want it.

And Sloane, I adored her, her fierce and feisty attitude, the way she didn't put up with anything but still had so much love and warmth to give.

This story had me sighing, growling, swooning, grinning, and so much more, taking me on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster ride of a journey that I loved every single minute of, even the frustrating ones! I just wanted what was best for Chase and Sloane, even when they didn't know what that actually was.

If you're looking for a book that will keep you on tenterhooks, leave you desperate for more, and that will absolutely put a smile on your face with all of the crazy antics, Furious is absolutely the one for you! You won't regret it!

P. S. LOVED seeing some more Hunter and Kylie!

P. P. S. Please tell me we will get Grey's story at some point? Pretty please? Also, I am intrigued by Nikki!

Loved this book!

No plot spoilers
There are a couple of potential triggers relating to fire and trauma but they are sensitively handled.
There are some sex scenes and some swearing
There are no grammatical or editorial errors that I can recall
At times the writing style feels a little clumsy, but it absolutely doesn't affect the storyline or enjoyment.
I adored the dialogue between the characters, it made me laugh at times and the author clearly had a plotline well mapped out.
I read in a previous review the male lead 'suddenly ' walks again towards the last of the book and that the reader felt the story was rushed and I absolutely refute this.
Maybe the reader who left the review skipped some of the book because his fight to walk again is an intrinsic part of the plotline and is evident right throughout. The ending is not rushed in the slightest, it pushes forward but every thing is explained and detailed.
It's a HEA romance, I have no idea what the reviewer was expecting but having read the previous book in the series I knew the author likes to dot every I and cross every t.
I enjoy this series and will continue to read it.

If you are looking for a good read with an atypical romance, enjoy sarcastic, combative humor with some profanity for additional spice, this book and others by R.L. Mathewson is for you!

I, personally, thoroughly enjoy R.L. Mathewson's humor, the characters she creates, and the way she pulls you into their feelings throughout her stories, therefore I was quite happy with the unexpected surprise release of this book because after reading the intro for it in Devastated (Anger Mgmt #1), I've been wanting to read it for the past year.

Chase and Slone's story and the thoughtful way it is told in this Furious (Anger Mgmt #2) book has all the characteristics that have made R.L. Mathewson fans of many readers. The reappearance and connections in this book to the Devastated (Anger Mgmt #1) characters Grey, Hunter & Kylie is nicely done to tie these books into this series without causing a reader to miss anything if the books are read out of order.

[If you happen to just be discovering R.L. Mathewson, I highly recommend her "Neighbor From Hell" series of books.]
