I hereby announce this showdown of my two rival gay boys was even better than I could’ve hoped—Ms. Pacat, I salute you for improving this series with every damn issue!

The feels.

It’s so adorably heartbreaking to see how lonely both of these idiots are (not that I’m saying loneliness is adorable or anything—wouldn’t wanna romanticise pain and have y’all chase me down with pitchforks, now would I?), and I really, really wish Seiji would stop dismissing everyone and everything to escape his damned feelings. This little addition definitely injected some hope into my heart—I mean, HE GAVE NICHOLAS RESPECTABLE FEEDBACK I’M DEAD.

But, like, can we just—THE CHEMISTRY.

There is more chemistry in these pages than there was in my entire highschool chemistry textbook—back in the good ol days of highschool, that is. More than anything, I appreciate how Seiji and Nicholas’s connection extends to even their fencing and we watch rile one another up, pushing the other to do better, be better.

Gah, if only Seiji wasn’t so obsessed with another certain boy as Nicholas is with him. Life’s so effing unfair I wanna throttle someone. My little otter Nicholas had nothing and it’s time life get in the business of paying back.

And to mention other cute gems: the diverse, beautiful families. Harvard the benevolent, wise leader. Tanner the spiky, loyal, caring angry hedgehog trying to keep his friends together.

Ah, my heart. I love him. 🥺 THIS

I think that’s enough ranting for now. You guys are probably bored out of your brains and are hoping I’d just zip it and stop reviewing every single one of these damned little comics. Well, I’m not even a little bit sorry to report I’m more stubborn than that. I WILL REVIEW THEM ALL YES I WILL.

12 down, 4 more to go.

”But whatever happens I liked fencing you. I thought you should know that.

AWWWW!!
I think I’ll never get over the ending of this issue! <3
So damn cute! I love how perplexed Seiji was when Nicholas told him he considers him to be his friend and ahhh them both talking about their parents, plus the ENDING!!! THE FREAKING ENDING!!!

Plus it was so cool to see the families of our favourite fencers! Very sweet how they all supported their children and friends! =) I can’t wait to see how this all unfolds! There finally seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, because those last two issues were amazing! =))

The only problem I still have with this series is: THAT THE ISSUES ARE TOO SHORT!!! *lol*

Yes, I’ll never get tired of mentioning it! ;-P

P.S: Did it surprise anyone that Aiden’s mom is sexy too? XD

Nicholas y Seiji vuelven a enfrentarse.

I think the pacing jumps between low burn romance and faster pacing. I wish it was more consisting! It is good but becoming predictable.

SPOILER ALERT

"This is the potential I saw at regionals. Individually, Seiji and Nicholas each have talent. But when they're together... Something extraordinary happens."

Ahhh, s0 many things happen here.

The start breaks my heart a little bit because we get to really see a bit of the hurt that Nicholas inside of him, and I mean, how could he not? But you really see it, and it's raw and painful and full of desperation and... glorious in execution.

Seiji and Nicholas' match was powerful and what we have been waiting for since the beginning. And that ending with both of them is exactly what I wanted to see for a long time and seeing the build-up to that moment... I can't, I just can't.

"Whatever the outcome of the match, it feels like...Something has changed."

NICHOLAS BLUSHING KING, RISE!

Will they finally face each other? Or will they get in trouble for fighting? Oof, that would be bad.

Nicholas have finally earned some sort of respect from Eiji after managing to get 1 point against him. The two boys seem to have some things in common, like a barely existent family.

The sweet boy considers his roommate his friend! (Internal scream !!!) Well this only took 10 issues, how long will it take for more?

★★★★ 5 Stars!

Some Thoughts:

1.) I really feel bad for Nicholas and his issues with his father. As someone who doesn’t have the best relationship with their father as well I can find it quite relatable.

2.) Also the loneliness of Nicholas and Seiji when everyone has their family around made me feel bad for both characters. Everyone deserves someone there to cheer them on in life.

3.) The ending scene between Seiji and Nicholas was just perfection. If this series ends with them being a couple I think they will become one of my favorites. But if not I really want them to be at least good friends. They compliment each other whether it’s a friendly or romantic way.

I’m crying that ending was the sweetest thing!!! Nicholas is so precious 😍😭😭

Things I loved:

•Listen it’s practically cannon that Tanner and Kally are boyfriends. Tanners whole family showed up to support Kally with Go Kally t-shirts!!

•Tanner and Kally supporting Nicholas.

•That whole ending!!! Poor Seiji.. he just wasn’t expecting that.

•Bobby!! Bobby’s family😍😍

•Ha. Aidens stepmom!

•Kally has two mums!!! My lesbian heart rejoices.

This is the one where Seiji and Nicholas finally have their highly anticipated fencing match. It’s intense and exciting, especially in all the ways they push each other to be better.

And, regardless of who comes out victorious, they may even be friends by the time it’s all over.

This was a memorable little addition, but I fear I’ve lost my momentum, having put this aside mid-series for nearly three years. That’s on me—but also on the publishers, because I simply couldn’t afford to pay such a hefty price for such little stories, comics or not.

This one was really wonderful. Even though I knew Nick could possibly not win yet against Seiji, it was still thrilling to watch their match. It was just on another level and I felt that everyone was quite emotional about it. Nick’s resolve to make Seiji not compare him to Jesse felt so visceral, it just reflected off the page.

It was nice to see all the families for the first time. Having everyone together shows how casually diverse this series is and most of the parents were so supportive. It was especially funny to see Tanner’s whole family wear Team Kally shirts coz he made them. They are just such great friends. And it definitely wasn’t surprising to see just Seiji and Nick’s family missing. But what happened next will always remain my most favorite scene of this series 😍😍😍

”We’re friends, aren’t we? has to be the sweetest thing Nick has ever uttered and Seiji’s shock wasn’t surprising 😂😂😂 And they were actually civil to each other. Even Coach realized that they are great for motivating each other and I think that final scene proves that this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Finally, my binge has ended and I have to wait more than a month for the next issue and this is going to be very agonizing... Why did this have to end on such hope and anticipation 😲😲😲😲

Woah, I loved this issue so much! It was spectacular and breath-taking to see Seiji and Nicholas fence! They have so much more in common than I and also they would have thought. I mean, they share the same dream, they both feel kind of lonely and/or separated and they both are pretty stubborn XD

Let’s be honest here, the result of their bout didn’t surprise anyone but that one point, that ... Am I overrating it when calling it a miracle? Maybe. Maybe it was earned and deserved since Nicholas trains really hard. Seiji simply is a million classes ahead of all of them but still... That growing friendship between Seiji and Nicholas (which, in all honesty, at the beginning wasn’t of interest for me) turns out to drive both a them to a better. I think it were Seiji’s expectations from Nicholas which caused him to hit that one time. Of course, those expectations drove him nuts but it also made him try harder and harder until it was good enough for a second. And then Nicholas knew he could do it. Even though he might not make the team and might have to leave Kings Row, he’s still grateful for what Seiji helped him to accomplish and for the possible improvements Seiji still sees in him and this is why we got the chance to witness Nicholas repaying him. As diligent readers we’re aware of Seiji’s secluded position at Kings Row and in general, about his daily life and that he actually only lives to fence on highest standard. He’s a loner and Nicholas simply changes this, not even needing permission or approvement. This really was on of the most precious scenes in Fence yet! And it’s not only the two of them: Nicholas also includes Bobby and that’s seriously the sweetest thing he could do. There’s no denying it, Nicholas is such a good friend to anyone he befriends! (This sentence sounds stupid...) I might become a fan of this trio~

Oh, and also let’s take a short moment to breathe in the fact that everyone’s family came to cheer for them, mothers, fathers, grandparents, siblings and Dante who of course was there for Bobby ^^ Pls, look at how Bobby’s abuelita eyes Dante!

I also loved all the other families! Tanner has a bunch of siblings and now I think I might understand a little bit why he’s so... out-going (?). I mean, it’s surely not easy XD Plus, he made them cheer for Kally. Okay, you can’t be more obvious, boy. //both thumbs up// I actually squealed a bit when I learnt, Kally has two moms. These three looked so lovely together and personality-wise Kally seems to swing after them. Harvard’s mom and dad were as great-hearted as their son is and Eugene’s siblings were the sweetest, everyone going “Gene! Gene! Then, there was Aiden’s..... umm... ......there was Alice.

At first this one panel made me laugh out so loud. Of course, he can’t even remember the name of his dad’s new girl. But thinking about it, I assume his dad changes his lovers almost as quickly as Aiden does. Maybe this is why Aiden behaves like this and doesn’t value love too much, maybe doesn’t even believe in real love. This thought made me feel sad for him and I seriously hope, Harvard will teach him there is true love.

Finally, there’s that bit we see about Nicholas family. Like Seiji, he’s alone. No one came to root for him and he’s not even surprised. Neither am I. Besides, we didn’t see his mom yet, so who knows what’s wrong with her, what’s her attitude towards her son? To be honest, I find it strange that there are so many thoughts about his father and Jesse on his mind but nothing about his mom. Hm. Am I the only one who thinks so? ... Back to Nicholas and him being alone. His thoughts depict how actually hurt he feels to be neglected and what hatred and jealousy he feels towards Jesse. Jesse, his half brother who seems to get everything Nicholas wishes for. Their dad (and his love and attention), the glory and fame as being the top ranked fencer (trained by their father), the praise and Seiji?! (〇o〇;) ギ

”I’m not going to let him take Seiji, too.

Oooooookay.... (¬‿)

Oh I loved this so much! I love the relationships/friendships that are being developed in these comics and how everyone’s backgrounds and thoughts are represented.

This was by far one of the most fun ones to read and I really can’t wait to continue on with the series!

4.5 stars, review is for the whole of volume 1, as I had read the whole thing before I knew it. And now I have to wait for more. *sigh, story of my friggin life, waiting for a book, LOL*

Really enjoyed this, much more than I expected. This was basically my first experience with a graphic novel, though I did read comics aeons ago when I was young. Also, I'm not counting skimming through my son's Naruto or Dragonball Z books. I wasn't exactly interested in those.

This hooked me fast, and after this first episode, I went ahead and bought them all (thank goodness the first volume was done!) and it felt like I finished them in the blink of an eye. No real relationships yet, but oh the groundwork is laid for things to be mighty complicated in several directions later.

Same for angst though that has the potential to be pretty damn explosive as well. And I'm not going to lie, the pretty graphics totally pulled me in as well. I've always been visual but it impacted the story more than I expected it to. Awesome way to finish out 2018 reading, trying something new, though I expected nothing less than awesome from C.S. Pacat.

Now I wait for Volume 2. :)
