This is easily Liu Cixin's best work. It has the regular Liu signature of a fair amount of relevant and accurate scientific jargons, interesting and somewhat unique plot with an array of Chinese characters.

I cannot stress how interesting this story is. An advanced life form coming to Earth to prevent a group of scientist to create a vacuum death that would wipe out the universe as well as providing background information on the universe and offering the cosmic truth in exchange for their life (even though it was not its idea). This story has it all. It easily stands out from the dozens of other science fiction works that I've read. In this story, Liu's incorporation and explanation of quantum mechanics were quite fascinating and unexpected. Though Liu's explanations of vacuum death sounded a bit off in my opinion.

The whole idea of why people mustn't attempt to understand unified field theory felt very appropriate and logical. The ideas and themes explored in this allegory were pretty unique and thought-provoking. I couldn't help but wonder what questions would I have asked in exchange of 10 more minutes of being. I also can't stop wondering about the brilliance behind the one question that has no answers. That even the cosmic beings couldn't answer.

I especially enjoyed the debates over whether or not it's worth it to give your life for the answer to cosmic truth, especially when the families and the world leaders weighed in. My position on the matter changed many times as different characters offered their opinions. Though ultimately, I agree with the actions of Dr. Ding, but I also completely understand all the reasons against his actions and sympathize with people on both sides.

Again, this is a really interesting and unique story and an allegory that I will definitely reread over the years.
