I AM…SHURI? A little Wakandan magic, a little astral projection and a very confused tree. Shuri cast her mind into the depths of space in a desperate bid to find her missing brother—and instead she landed in the mind of Groot! Who’s about to become a crunchy snack for a huge, energy-sucking alien! Rocket Raccoon’s best guns won’t get them out of this one. Is Wakanda about to lose its only remaining heir to the throne?!

It’s been many years since I’ve read comics, so I have to get used to reading them. So, forgive me for thinking that this is one of the most craziest episode I’ve ever read... in a comic.
So...from last time, Shuri is dream traveling into space. Somehow, a young girl who is a member of the Elephant Trunk was nearby the majestic baobab tree named, Groot.
So, she was also sent out into space. This whole part was so confusing, I didn’t understand what was going on.
While I'm not totally clear on the whole spirit projection thing, it was cool to get to see Groot and Rocket in their own little cameo. I feel like this issue didn't further this plot that much. The art is still spot on, and in this case, it perfectly blended the style of this series and the style of Guardians. Shuri has so much potential to be truly great, and it's on track to live up to that potential.
Magic, space opera , Storm , bugs, humor. Nnedi appears to be having fun writing this. The difference between the cover art and interior art is a bit jarring though
I try to give every new series a shot, but I absolutely hate this issue of Shuri. If I hadn't had the next issue right next to me, I would have stopped reading here. It just felt like it sucked all the momentum out of the series for me. Why transport Shuri into the body of Groot? How does this move the plot forward in any way? In short, it doesn't. It only serves as a comedic filler issue of Shuri interacting with Rocket, which is fun but not worth this issue. Also, I guess it gave a reason for the later big bad, but even that feels tacked on at the end. Guys, do better than this. Give Shuri interesting things to do, or don't even write a Shuri series.
I really enjoyed this mashup, and the art style really worked for me when the characters were in space. I've liked the pace of the series. Every issue, it feels like the plot is moving forward, and I learn something new about the world. Next issue looks like we'll see our first major antagonist.
I went into this issue not expecting much, sorry if that sounds harsh. But the idea of combining Shuri and Groot…well it sounds like a bit of a goof, right? And admittedly it did absolutely have its humorous moments. But it also had a lot more going on than that. This is one of those plots that’s difficult to talk about without spoiling it all. I will say that it was more interesting than I had expected, and that the series did justice to all of the characters involved. And bonus points: it laid the groundwork for another, bigger problem.
Good color artwork. One of three hundred comics marvel gave out on national read a book day, Sept six. Shurri teams up with guardians of the galaxy? Good be worse, corporate could have insisted she team up with Deadpool! Grootboom is an interesting name for a baobab tree.
This was the low point of the first collected volume for me. I bounced off it, hard. Astral projection into the mind of Groot, while being attacked by a giant bug. It's not interesting, it does nothing to forward any character work, it's just... I'm sorry, but there was nothing I liked about it. Spectacle over substance.
i wasn't that into this, i guess just cause i find the guardians a little annoying. i love my rag-tag sci-fi found families but... not this one. mansa is cool though, reminds me of one of the unstoppable wasp girls.
I like the Aretha Franklin shoutout but didn't care for all the screen time devoted to Groot. This one wasn't my favorite storyline but I'm definitely committed to the series. Bring on #4
This one started off pretty good, then added characters from guardian of galaxy, but what they tackled in the read was a bit silly. Aside from that, I enjoyed the artwork and subscious-ancestral concept.
