The rules were clear: they could date for a week. But someone forgot to tell love!
On a whim, high school third-year Yuzuru Shino asks out first-year Toji Seryo, who is notorious for being a weeklong lover—he’ll date the first girl to ask him out Monday morning and then promptly dump her by the following Monday! The boys start dating, and by Tuesday, the first inklings of attraction hit. Can Seryo put words to his feelings before Monday comes, or are old dating habits too hard to break?
Seven Days: Monday - Sunday written by Venio Tachibana and illustrated by Rihito Takarai is a charming and delightful high-school adventure chronicling a week in the lives of schoolmates Yuzuru Shino and Touji Seryou.
The premise is rather bizarre: every Monday, Touji asks a different girl in the school to date him for the following seven days only to inevitably dump her on a Sunday for not having fallen in love with her. When Yuzuru offers jokingly to Touji to be his date for the week, the two boys start hanging out together...
Despite being devoid of major events - all Yuzuru and Toiji seem to do is eat out, go to the cinema, walk to the school and back home together, attend training sessions for their archery club - the way Tachibana develops their mutual attraction and subtle courting are heartwarming and charming throughout.
In pure manga style, many things are left unsaid and communicated only through the characters' eyes and changes in the setting, especially the MCs' insecurities and confusion when confronted with their blossoming feelings towards each other.
Takarai's drawing style is still a bit unripe in this story and the characters are at times drowned in their too-large school uniforms but they're nonetheless charmingly portrayed. There's a very nice sense of cinematic progression to the way the story is laid out on the page - varying 'shot' lengths, intense close-ups and atmospheric long shots contribute to build up and support the narration.
I personally prefer Takarai as a solo author and I truly like the edgy stuff she's produced since working on Seven Days , this story is, however, sweet and comforting and really worth your time!
Maybe I should have read them as separate volumes because the couple is kind of adorable but just reading this manga their relationship still felt lacking in the end after reading it. At first, while I was reading this story felt like a slow burn but after 100 pages it was okay but the writing was still lacking and so did other characters like that were not the main ones. At times their relationship seemed like it could happen in reality but then sometimes the development of the story just didn't work for me. Like I wanted to go in depth about Toji's past relationship with the girl who is dating his brother like I know that she is mostly the reason why he started dating people for only once a week because he was heartbroken and wanted to see if he could fall in love again but the character's motivation even with all the symbolism just only reached the surfaced just like all the other characters in this story. The supporting characters are barely there, they are so forgettable because they are only mentioned as plot device for the story. I didn't need to know everything about each character but I didn't want them to always be in sidelines and have only two or three scenes with a short and not a good enough dialogue to get to know them with. Also I know the relationship was a week but why does their relationship seem like it is still forced like we know that they will get together and one of them doesn't like deep conversations but maybe they could have talked more during the story instead waiting at the end to express how they really feel than just barely talking about it throughout the plot so that the characters would develop? I don't know, the story is sort of likable but it depends on the premise too much that it never took risks in the story or their characters and never reach the potential that I was hoping for. Anyway, overall this manga was okay so 3 stars is the fair rating.

I have no words for this manga. It was amazing. I loved it from start to end! The premise was so interesting, and I loved the characters! It was so good!!
Seven Days brings a quiet kind of romance in a fake dating trope. Shino has had terrible luck in love - his personality and his image are quite different from each other, so people who have asked him out for his image get disappointed when they get to know him personally. Meanwhile, Seryo, who has a rule where he gives every relationship the chance of one week for some feelings to develop, hasn't had a romance last for more than one week, giving rise to a rumor that he only dates for a week. Shino asks him out on a whim, and Seryo accepts, which makes for an interesting week for the two of them as they get to know one another. The romance is in that despite their differences, they understand each other at some level. Seryo likes Shino's personality, and Shino realizes that he didn't give the guy enough credit, thinking him to be a player only. The two of them are also wary of falling in love, because each thinks the other is not taking the one-week-relationship seriously; Shino thinks he has only one week, while Seryo thinks Shino asked him on a whim so he may not be serious about falling in love like him. Thankfully there is no gay panic or biphobia. There's also a whole subplot about Seryo's past crush on his brother's girlfriend that causes some tension between him and Shino, as the latter thinks he is still not over her. The artwork is nice, and the story progression over the week is neatly divided into chapters per day. Overall, it is a beautiful romance about giving love a chance.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review from SuBLime, via Edelweiss.
In the beginning, I wasn’t exactly sure about my stand on the artstyle, but by the end I was fully loving it. Not only the way Toji was drawn, but also all the silly expressions throughout the volumes warmed my heart. There’s bouts of miscommunication, especially in the last quarter, right when their one week of dating is coming to an end. However, those miscommunications always gets resolved fairly quickly and don’t drag out too long. Unfortunately it doesn’t really dive deep into their characters either, but it’s still enjoyable as a light read. Despite knowing that it’s lacking in one aspect or the other - I really cant help but giving it full stars. The way it was so sweet and so heartwarming at times. I just wish that there was more of their dating life shown after the initial one week, leading to their development as a couple being shown more.
I don’t doubt that not many would share this opinion of mine, but it was just exactly what I needed to read right now.
So I read 'Date Me, Bryson Keller' and really enjoyed it only to find out it was a rip off of this and then a lot of the reviews bigged this manga up stating it was so much better the 'Date Me' but I don't think that's necessarily true. Don't get me wrong, what the author of 'Date Me' did is incredibly wrong but the story was so much more developed then this. Going into this with all this hype from fans did not help. The premise is good and the art is lovely but is there even character development besides some basic surface level stuff? Whenever I thought they were going to talk about a topic and reveal some detail... they didn't. I still liked this but just nowhere near as much as I thought. I would reccomend this but I would be sure to not hype it to much.
No. Es simple. Sencilla, cliché y no es lo busco. Pero no es mala. Simplemente no es lo que yo quiero leer ni lo que considero que sea un romance.
All the girls say that a week is plenty long enough to live a dream. For me this one week... was all I needed to fall in love.
I've been in a serious short manga/manhwa mood lately and this was one of my favorites. Such a simple story of two high school boys falling in love in a week with the most high school appropriate miscommunication and insecurities. It wasn't anything deep but very enjoyable, they were adorable.
Edit: screw it, I'm giving this five stars, I was just simply so endeared by it.
I didn’t like this book. The whole concept, the characters and their thought processes/decisions. Wasn’t for me. None of it made any real sense. I couldn’t wait for it to be over.
(I've read both Volumes so sharing the same review here!)
This was a sweet, light-hearted manga, I easily read Vol 1 & 2 in couple hours! It's a Boy's Love/ MM romance between 2 High schoolers, with a little over the top but curious fast-paced plot. The art style is ok, reminiscent of 2000s era, seeing as this is released in 2007-2009. I never thought I'd read a manga that old, but I'm glad I gave this a chance (a good rec from CHAT GPT lol).
I do recommend you read Vol 1 & Vol 2 back to back (as I did).
Vol 1 : Monday Thursday
Touji Seryou is popular in HS, & goes out with anyone who asks him on Monday Morning. He's a good guy & a great, attentive bf so why doesn't he do more than 1 week?
Yuzuru Shino is Tou's archery club upperclassman, elegant at archery but otherwise a funny, normal high-schooler. If someone loves him, they'll have to love all of him, not parts is #relatable! Him asking Tou on a date was a joke, but Tou took it literally & it became real. BUT only for 1 week.
These 4 days of Vol 1 became days of growing closer, new feelings & a dash of jealousy! Ah the drama with ex named Shino! Like Goddamn Tou, WHAT. That story line was a lil complicated & fucked up on its own 😳.
When the week ends, will these 2 be together still?
Vol 2 : Friday Sunday
This was the rollercoaster ending of Yuzuru & Touji's story!
The whole story (Vol 1 + 2) happen in a single week, so the story is fast paced (with insta love) as a lot happens in little time.
The "Joke but real but are we really real?" Boyfriends charade was funny to see haha. All the girls simping on em, tho personally I like Yuzuru's art more.
The 2 boys are idiots but sweet together, I'm glad we got kisses! (FYI, nothing more, It's wholesome). The love & happy ending is cute!
I disliked the ex Shino-girl, she's weird! But she did give us the jealousy scenes, which are always fun lol.
Comic rating (Vol 1+ Vol 2): Overall - 4.25
1) The Characters: 4.5/5 2) Story feels: 😳🤨😏😌😝🤣😩🤗🥴😤😶🥰 3) Art: 4/5 (not colored) 4) Sexy/Steamy scenes: N.A.
so this is my 2nd time reading it and it's still really cute as fuck. plot: third year Yuzuru learns of a guy in first year, Seryo, who only dates people for a week. dumps them on sunday and then dates the first person to ask him out on monday. curious as to why all these girls who date him only for a week have nothing bad to say about him, Yuzuru asks out Seryo and his week long date begins.
I remember i bought this on a whim at dymocks (bc i wanted to spend my first pay check) and was really drawn to the art. the art is stunning. IMMACULATE. if a manga has ugly art...sorry i just can't bring myself to read it. the story is really light-hearted and super cute but it's way too short and the characters lack depth. I've read shorter mangas that give me more character development than this.
on my way to find my next manga. gyaru goodreads girl x
Cool, aloof Seryo is known for accepting the first person who asks him out every Monday, but he'll only date them for one week and on Monday the cycle starts again. Shino asks Seryo out on a whim and is surprised when he accepts, and again when feelings develop.
This is a very gentle, sweet BL manga about two boys developing gentle, sweet feelings. The premise is a bit contrived but it's fine. I just really enjoyed the mood and pacing of this and the art is nice. Not much 'happens' but there's such a nice rhythm and flow.
Seven Days was an interesting read. It wasn’t exactly what I was expecting and I think that’s a good thing. It’s definitely not a typical love story.
I really liked that Seryo and Yuzuru were able to find each other through this. I liked that Seryo was able to find someone he connected with. And I liked that Yuzuru was able to find someone who loved him as he is rather then who they thought he was. It was really nice. I think the only thing that I didn’t like about this manga was that the characters seemed to get so jealous and possessive over each other after such a short amount of time.
Overall, Seven Days was a cute manga with a great art style. This is getting four out of five stars.
Seven Days was cute, but not absurdly cute. I was a bit confused with the art initially, I was mixing up who was saying which dialogue. And the characters could've been fleshed out more. But this is supposed to be a light-hearted manga so perhaps I'm over analysing. Good for a one time read.
I liked that Yuzuru Shino was able to look beyond gender, and wanted to be with Toji Seryo because he simply Seryo because of who he was on the inside. I also liked that Seryo was able to accept Shino for who he was, faults and all.
In all, a very sweet manga, with nothing explicit beyond a shared kiss or two.
(On a small aside, I did have concerns that it was going to be one of those manga that "converted" boys into switching preferences, and while there was a small hint of that, it was still not too overt.)
Okay I hate to be the one to say it, I do not like the art in this manga. At certain angles their faces look funny and I think it took away the impact some of the scenes would’ve had on me but I don’t think that takes away from the overall story! The middle was very boring and I didn’t care much about their dumb misunderstandings but I am a sucker for cutesy shenanigans
I've recently been listening to Marie Kondo's Magic of Tidying Up - and she talks about sparking joy. Do you want to know what sparked joy for me? THIS MANGA.
Seven Days was an absolute joy, I had to stop myself reading it in a whole fell swoop because DAMN I could easily and I wanted to. I had myself just read Monday first of all and I went to bed smiling into my pillow because it's just so damn cute.
We have one of our main characters Yuzuru Shino who asks out Toji Seryo after hearing he will say yes to whoever asks him out first on the Monday and give them a week before ending it on the Sunday. Yuzuru is a bit of a player himself and can't settle and asks Toji (who is two years his junior) out as a joke. And then yeah, you go from there from Monday - Sunday. There's the joke asking you out trope at first but that turns into a rather wholesome love as we go through the days. The characters are so chill in comparison to the fact we're really not with them for long but it's so clever that we really get a sense of them as people, separate and together. They're both incredibly flawed and I found that refreshing; rather than either of them fall into the Mary Sue trope.
I can't tell you the joy this manga gave me. I really loved Rihito's artstyle as it grabbed my attention from the first board and I couldn't stop. The characters really felt alive and the art design on their expressions was so subtle but so powerful you didn't need many words to accompany them.
I honestly would give this six stars if I could, it's just so so good. The pace is fantastic, having that week deadline really worked to keep you on your toes as a reader, but sad as you saw the days ticking by so fast! I know this was released in like 2007 but seriously Venio & Rehito - can I have a second volume please? Just another week?
If you want a lighthearted manga that just makes you want more and more and more then please pick up Seven Days. You'll be grinning into your pillow too as you fall asleep and really isn't that the best feeling in the world?
This was not perfect by any means but I really enjoyed it! To be honest Yuzuru Shino and Toji Seryo were both bit annoying sometimes... But at the end this story was really cute and it ended perfectly!
Allow me to explain this five star review because I feel a lot of people would disagree with it.
I have so many nostalgic feelings attached to this manga. I get teary-eyed at the end and I'm anxiously running through it, waiting for all of the miscommunication to get cleared up and all the jealously to fly away. In a more objective view, this story is relatively simple. It's a lot of dialogue, a lot of the main characters not communicating properly and misunderstanding their complicated emotions. We see this a lot BL manga and when it comes to it, Seven Days probably fits into all the other BL manga out there that use "communication issues" as their overarching conflict. On top of that the art is okay at best. While the art is done by the wonderful Rihito Takarai (author of Ten Count) this is her very first published work so the art is outdated.
All the same, I love this manga. It makes me so happy to read through it, to see Seryo and Yuzuru attempt and fail miserably to understand why the other is upset or angry. And the end of it gets me every time. It warms my heart and--at the risk of being cliché and sounding so incredibly jaded--it makes you believe in love. This is the kind of love I think a lot of people seek and Seven Days manages to capture that.
Do I recommend this manga? Absolutely. Do I think people will like it as much as I do? Not at all. Even so, give it a read.
Side note: If you pay keep up with (English) voice actors I can heard Max Mittleman as Yuzuru and Xander Mobus as Seryo (yes, Ryuji and Joker).
