For half a century, Sesame Street has helped kids grow smarter, stronger, and kinder through its messages about inclusiveness, kindness, and, of course, literacy and numeracy.
Eighteen different illustrators bring their considerable artistic talents to bear here in a visual tribute to Sesame Street. Since Sesame Street has reached its fiftieth anniversary, the project features the lines of the ubiquitous Sesame Street theme song, accompanied by the artwork. Not only are the artists a diverse cast of characters, so are the images and youngsters featured here alongside some of the show's favorites. Thumbnail sketches of the artistic contributors are provided in the back matter. It's simply astounding to consider how long this show has lasted and how many youngsters have learned their ABCs, numbers, and maybe even a little bit of kindness toward others by watching it.
This book includes illustrations from eighteen talented artists, and the results are incredible. This is a beautiful way to celebrate fifty years of Sesame Street.
This picture book celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Sesame Street and it's catchy theme song. You can hear the tune in your head right? "Sunny day, sweepin' the clouds away..." It's one of those tunes most kids will know for a lifetime. Combined with the lyrics from the theme song are a collection of illustrations by an incredible group of artists. The range and diversity of the pages matches that of the Sesame Street world with all it's color and beauty. This is a book that generations will adore.
A beautiful book featuring illustrations from different authors. It was a blast from the past to read, and it was equally fun seeing old illustrators I love and new illustrators I discovered from this book.
A preschool and up picture book of the theme song of Sesame Street with various artists creating the artwork for each page. Nice afterward about each illustrator.
This book is pure joy. The text is just the Sesame Street theme song, but each page is illustrated by a different artist. It is colorful and happy and made my heart sing.
I love that this is an illustrative collaboration; it's great to see so many different styles in one book about a show that's all about inclusion and being a good neighbor.
In 2019, Sesame Street celebrated its 50th anniversary. 50! The classic theme song for the ground-breaking TV show for kids was composed by Joe Raposo, Jon Stone, and Bruce Hart. It's a classic in children's music for preschoolers. A diverse group of eighteen contemporary illustrators were given one line from the song to illustrate. What a splendid job they did, each in their own style. They flow so nicely together, just like the song. Contributors include: Christian Robinson, Roger Bradfield, Ziyue Chen, Joe Mathieu, Tom Lichtenheld, Sean Qualls, Selina Alko, Emily Winfield Martin, Joey Chou, Kenard Pak, Rafael López, Pat Cummings, Brigette Barrager, Vanessa Brantley-Newton, Mike Curato, Leo Espinosa, Greg Pizzoli, and Dan Santat.
Seek this gem out and enjoy it! I double dog dare you to try to read it without either singing it aloud or in your head.
Highly Recommended for PreSchool-K and fans of the series - that means everyone!

The dust jacket, book case, endpapers, title page and interior double-page pictures are illustrated by a gathering of renowned artists in this tribute to the song which accompanies this show. You'll be singing the song out loud as you try to figure out who created each picture until you get to the end where all is disclosed. In a word---wonderful.
I was such a huge fan of Sesame Street when I was kid--and still am a fan today.
There was no way I was going to pass up on a book that celebrated their theme song published during their 50th Anniversary.
Iconic picture book illustrators appear in this--with each illustrator reimagining a line from the song.
It's so great seeing some of my favourite illustrators' work in this book and discovering new illustrators as well.
The fact that this picture book presented different styles of illustration from a diverse group of artists is a great way to mirror what Sesame Street is all about--learning and inclusivity.
This book was very fun to read, heartwarming and definitely nostalgic.
A must have for any Sesame Street fan!
Now, could anyone of you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?
The text of this book is the lyrics of the theme song that opens episodes of Sesame Street. Each illustrator gets a single page spread. The book celebrates diversity. As a bookseller, I enjoyed the challenge of identifying each illustrator and have yet to convince myself that I have solved the puzzle. I believe the illustrators are listed in the order that they appear, but I would have to double-check that. The text works best, I think, as a sing-along, but there was a verse that neither I nor the young parents at my story time remembered.
While the text of this story is just the Sesame Street theme song, it is still a great book. The text is simple in nature but the pictures are what makes this story great. The book is filled with illustrations from different artists and each page is in a different style. Each page depicts a different scenario with almost every page containing Sesame Street characters. The book also showcases a lot of diversity by showing people of different races and different religions. This book is entertaining not because of the text, which is familiar to a lot of people, but because of the amazing illustrations.
This makes my heart so happy; thank you for this slice from my childhood and all the different illustrators. Yes, I sang along as I looked through (though I remembered slightly different lyrics towards the end with the whole "it's a magic carpet ride part...); okay, now I will have to Google and see.
Update: well, I was wrong, but I was right, but I was wrong. What is written in the book was not the original lyrics. And I filled in the lyrics wrong when I was a little kid. In the original Raposo left us hanging: "To happy people like you/Happy people like" Okay, like what, Joe?
I saw this book and I knew I had to read it! I grew up watching Sesame Street, which a lot of us did, and tt’s so nice to see the song turned into a book. This book brings back so many wonderful memories and seeing old characters that helped shape my childhood. This is a book that definitely needs to be in everyone’s personal library. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. WARNING! It’s really hard not to sing along as you read it and the song will be stuck in your head all day! You’re welcome.
As I read this I was singing the song in my head. This is the theme song down on paper to Sesame Street. The song makes for great lines to a book like this.
The artwork is amazing. Each page spread is done by 18 different artists. Many of them that I follow are in here like Dan Santat or Kenard Pak. Each page's artwork is distinct and a different take on a neighborhood filled with children's laughter. I love this concept. So many different things to love.
A fun book young kids might enjoy if they know the show.
Was dying to get my hands on this because Christian Robinson, Emily Winifieled Martin, Kenard Pak and Sean Qualls were all in the same place! Pros: illustrators are obv great and the concept is cute and nostalgic butttt there's one fail. It's pretty difficult to determine which illustrators did what (illustrator's names aren't listed in corner of works and there's no table of contents--you can find illustrator bios in the back.
So I have to admit, it's been a long time since I have heard the Sesame Street theme song. So it didn't flow off my tongue as readily as I liked. But what did I love: ALL of the different illustrators who brought their unique stamp to the project. Christian Robinson, Tom Lichtenheld, Dan Santat, Greg Pizzoli.....the list goes on and on.
It definitely is an excellent tool to show that Sesame Street crossed ages, genders, and demographics
obviously not containing much textual substance if you are already previously familiar with the sesame street theme song lyrics. however, the art and the book design is BEAUTIFUL. even the book cover and hardback. great variation and broad span of many different and lovely art styles. some modern, some classic and all beautiful. stunning! plus bert and ernie hugging each other always puts a smile on my face.
So awesome how they did this with a variety of illustrators, one for each spread. A couple people I'd never heard of, a couple that were easy to tell who they were, and some surprises! I wish it came with a CD with the song, though I guess for just one short song that would be not much for a whole CD. Maybe there's an audio version?
Various powerhouse illustrators bring Joe Raposo’s iconic and beloved Sesame Street theme song, “Sunny Dayâ€, to life in this sunny picture book, bursting with bright colors, diverse characters, and lots of joy. Will have smiling little readers singing along again and again!Ìý
I liked seeing how a variety of artists chose to illustrate each spread of the Sesame Street theme song. Some were familiar and others new to me. Each illustrator has a brief bio at the back of the book.
Sang the song as I read the book, then went back and matched illustrators to the images. It is so fun to see the variety of illustrations and how they come together so well. I love going to Sesame Street.
The text is essentially the lyrics to Sesame Street's theme song. The illustrations are completely different styles on each page spread, and pay tribute to the show we've loved for decades. Little Miss loved it.
