Omg??? I had high expectations for this one, obviously, but I am shooketh it did not disappoint!! (cannot say the same about the first book since that one was a dnf for now). Hunter is by far one of my most favorite Heroes of all time and if Dylan didn’t want him, I’d gladly snatch him up and keep him for myself. But I’m SO GLAD Dylan is not loony enough to let him go 😮� or am I�? Lol anyway, I’ll try to write a more detailed review when I get the time but for now� IT IS A HELL YES for this one 💯🔥

What I'm excited for in this series:
1. Quinn and Lucas' love story
2. Dylan choosing Hunter ♥️ (ugh FOR ONCE, let the intense, quiet, broody guy (aka Hunter) get the girl! And not the mean, overbearing, bullying asshole dude (aka Kade) because quite frankly, that would just be like a remake of and I've already read that book and tons more like it so I would pass if so. It would be so damn boring, predictable, and done-so-many-times if Dylan ended up with Kade 🙄 Besides, Hunter has that intensity and broodiness about him that you can’t help but find so damn hot! 🥵🔥 I totally fell for him in and I am hella excited for him and Dylan to get it onnnn (and I would bet my curvy white ass it would be e.x.p.l.o.s.i.v.e. considering all of Hunter’s pent up energy 😏) and get their HEA 😍.

The Pirates and Rebels are here, and with them comes Dylan & Hunter in this throwback of a feeling story that will keep you on your toes...
So here we are, once again at the spot where it all started. Where started and a whole new universe was introduced by . Only now, we are being introduced to Jared and Tate's daughter, Dylan. And Madoc and Fallon's sons; Hunter and Kade. And my gosh is this the book to bring you back to the OG couples. I squealed every time Jax and Juliet were mentioned, they just brought out the feels in me and made my feet kick back and forth. And here we are in the present, now with the bad ass heroine that is Dylan. I knew from reading , that Dylan was going to be one of my favorites and anticipated her book. Now that it's here, I can officially say that Penelope did her thing, and did her thing spectacularly!
After reading , you know that the twins, Kade and Hunter had a falling out. Which then led to Hunter transferring schools and living a different life than the one he had before with Dylan and Kade. He now attends a rivalry school. But all this time being gone, has made Dylan miss Hunter more and more;
Dylan, being part of the Rivalry Week and Prisoner Exchange program gets to see Hunter once again after a year of being apart. And that's when the games begin. The Pirates and the Rebels... and what a sweet two weeks it is! Counting down until it's time for the final football game between the rivalry schools, Dylan and Hunter learn more about each other and the things that they have kept from each other. Hunter being the one who is pulling and pushing Dylan away and forward with his mixed emotions is what truly made me love his character and the development process he goes through this story. His adoration and obsession with Dylan, even after time being apart, never diminished. His thoughts about Kade and Dylan were just never in the right place until the time that the truth comes to light;
But even though Hunter's inner battles are there, he will never EVER stop being obsessed with Dylan. This kind of writing is the type of writing that I have missed from Penelope. She brings out the darkest of fantasies of all her characters. And we definitely get some kinky scenes in this book. The best kind of steam and action that made me want more. Hunter's WANT for Dylan goes to a level of fire, and addiction. I LOVE IT;
All in all, Penelope has brought out the same feelings I felt when I first started reading the Fall Away series. And bringing the OG characters back to life in this one has made this book extra special. With that being said, I am already anticipating the next book. And you DO NOT want to miss out on the small excerpt she releases at the end of this story. A highly anticipated couple that I am sure a lot of us have been craving for! Penelope, you already know that I need the like now ;)

You have NO idea how happy I am to be back in a Penelope Douglas world. I've missed the Hellbent and Fall Away characters so much! Pirate Girls is a long-awaited sequel featuring Jared's baby girl Dylan, and Hunter, one of the Caruthers twins. It's childhood friends to lovers and my heart was so full the whole time I read reading Dylan and Hunter's romance 🥹 It's messy, angsty, dramatic, but through it all, you know these two are IT for each other.
If you've read Falls Boys (which I highly recommend you read first), then you know Hunter and Kade had a falling out, and now Hunter attends a different high school from everyone. Hunter and his twin are rivals, attending rival schools and eventually they'll play against each other on the football field. There's so much the twins need to deal with and uncover before they can find their way back to each other but first... there's Rivalry Week.
Pirate Girls opens up with Rivalry Week and the Prisoner Exchange, and Hunter's school decides to take Dylan as their prisoner. So for two weeks, Dylan belongs to the town of Weston... and to Hunter. She stays in the haunted house right next to him, where they'll be neighbors for the exchange. He's not going to make it easy for her while she's on his side of town, but thankfully Dylan is just like her father: headstrong, stubborn, and fully capable of standing on her own.
I loved the push and pull between Dylan and Hunter! Technically, they're step-cousins, but I swear there's nothing weird about it lol. From the very beginning, you can feel how much Hunter has always wanted Dylan, how much he's always loved her since they were kids. This was 'he falls first' perfection. But things have gotten complicated and messy over the past few years, and the only way to unravel things is to confront each other head-on. And all I can say after finishing this book is that Hunter has always been Dylan's perfect match. Kade who????
If you're a Fall Away fan, you'll be VERY happy to know we get a ton of the OG cast in Pirate Girls 🥹 Jared being a girl dad is everything I ever wanted and more. Jared and Dylan have their own complicated relationship because they're just so damn similar to each other. She wants to race for her dad, he thinks it's too dangerous, so she starts learning without him. Of course, we also see Madoc and Fallon, Jax and Juliet, and Hunter's grandfather. We get plenty of Quinn as well � Quinn acts like more of an older sister/cousin to Dylan, and she shows up a good amount while she's on break from college. And for the Credence fans, say hi to Noah here!
Overall, I'm so happy that we have a new release from Penelope Douglas. I've missed their writing, their storytelling, and their romances. If you loved Falls Boys, you'll definitely have a good time with Pirate Girls.
...I'm also screaming, crying, throwing UP over who the next couple will be in Quiet Ones 😭 I literally shrieked when I go to the sneak preview of the 3rd Hellbent book! QUIET ONES CAN'T GET HERE QUICK ENOUGH FOR MEEE.

dylanhunter my babies � I’ve been waiting forever for their book, even if it wasn’t clear who Dylan would end up, I always knew it would be them and they delivered the teenage angst.
Dylan has always seen Hunter, while he has always felt like second best to his brother and never enough. That made me so sad. The mutual pining was killing me slowly. 😭All their scenes were so good.. that shower scene? TRUE LITERATURE IS BACK! That scene will forever and always live in my mind rent free. That’s how you write tension and longing. Alexa play ‘we can’t be friends� by Ariana Grande.
When Dylan got kidnapped and Hunter pretends to be Kade? First of all.. the self sabotage that Hunter did is INSAAAANEE .. the way I screamed at that dumbass. But Dylan saw right through his shit .. she KNOWS KNOWS him 😌
And I have to say that I’m obsessed with the fact that both of them were virgins and each others first. 🥺this trope never gets done in romance books with all the manwhores out there, so this was such a great change for once. And once we get to dylanhunter’s steamy scenes? the mirror scene? the car scene? The make up sex? I love them all.
Dylan & Hunter were so perfect for each other. Both of them feel like the underdogs and lonely in their own way. Dylan, because she’s a girl wanting to do all these male dominated hobbies and Hunter, because he always feels like invisible compared to his twin brother. And they just get each other. Their love is so pure. 🥺👉👈

reading all the flashback scenes what Kade did to Hunter had me seeing red. I hated him and just wanted him to respectfully drown. Unpopular opinion, but after this book I still don’t like Kade.. I tolerate him and I’m happy Hunter has his brother back, but I can hold a grudge ✨�
I’ve been calling the reason why Kade acted like that towards Hunter from the beginning, cause I’ve read too many bully romances and just know the signs when the bully just wants the attention of their victime no matter if it’s the positive or negative kind 😂that loser should have communicate better tho.. as a kid I understand not knowing how, but they aren’t kids anymore. Hunter was not completely innocent in this conflict for not seeing it from his brother’s perspective, but how could he know. As he said he can’t read Kade’s mind. SPEAK UP BOY! 🗣�
The way Hunter felt like Farrow had his back more than his own twin is just sad. So the only Caruthers kid I acknowledge is Hunter and AJ Caruthers. Honestly AJ Caruthers for president I love her already <3
� SIDE CHARACTERS �
Jared and Maddoc as parents ahhh I’m screaming. It feels like a decade ago since I read their books, but seeing them back as parents and still bickering and fighting with each other made me unbelievably happy.
I liked the Rebels a lot. Especially Farrow always had Hunter and Dylan’s back. He was #1 dylanhunter shipper which was so cute. Or everytime he wanted to beat Kade when that shithead was doing sth again to provoke Hunter. Farrow is the best. I hope he gets a book.
� PLOT �
I have to say that I absolutely HATE the plot in Penelope Douglas� book. Not only in this series, but it already started in the Devil’s Night series. What is this mystery plot she always inserts in her books. I don’t give a fuck about the folklore and mystery surrounding these people who disappeared 20 years ago 😭I just want to read my cute little romance books with no plot, only romance and found family. That’s all.. But instead I had to read or better skimmed through so many pages of this stupid rivalry between Pirates and Rebels, the mystery about Deacon, Conor and Winslet. That’s the only thing I complain about this book, because the plot took too much from the book.

dylanhunter, you will always be loved by me! They were cute together 💕 Now, the next couple I’m excited about will be AJ & Christian that will we probably get in 2030 lmao. Please give me all the forbidden romance.

I’ve been calling the reason why Kade acted like that towards Hunter from the beginning, cause I’ve read too many bully romances and just know the signs when the bully just wants the attention of their victime no matter if it’s the positive or negative kind 😂that loser should have communicate better tho.. as a kid I understand not knowing how, but they aren’t kids anymore. Jared and Maddoc as parents ahhh I’m screaming. It feels like a decade ago since I read their books, but seeing them back as parents and still bickering and fighting with each other made me unbelievably happy.
I liked the Rebels a lot. Especially Farrow always had Hunter and Dylan’s back. He was #1 dylanhunter shipper which was so cute. Or everytime he wanted to beat Kade when that shithead was doing sth again to provoke Hunter. Farrow is the best. I hope he gets a book.
� PLOT �
I have to say that I absolutely HATE the plot in Penelope Douglas� book. Not only in this series, but it already started in the Devil’s Night series. What is this mystery plot she always inserts in her books. I don’t give a fuck about the folklore and mystery surrounding these people who disappeared 20 years ago 😭I just want to read my cute little romance books with no plot, only romance and found family. That’s all.. But instead I had to read or better skimmed through so many pages of this stupid rivalry between Pirates and Rebels, the mystery about Deacon, Conor and Winslet. That’s the only thing I complain about this book, because the plot took too much from the book.

I realised i did in fact disappear for two days lmao but omfds this was soooo good! It had me staying up till five am just for that one last chapter.
DylanHunter were one of my most anticipated ship from Penelope � along with QuinnLucas � after finishing the fall away series and it deliveredddd on the angst 💅💅💅
There were certain scenes where I was like whatever and started skimming � the racing scenes (which happened too much unfortunately) and the “plot� with the mystery twins?? I genuinely couldn’t be bothered with it lollll it kinda ate out a lot of pages which could’ve been used for better development between Hunter and Kade.
Other than that I was eating up the back and forth with Dylan and Hunter. It did get a teeny bit tiring at the end but that’s mostly bc I was over the miscommunication happening every two seconds.
Kade can eat shit for the grief he put Hunter and Dylan thru. Like I genuinely wanted to force a pillow over his face while he slept.
This is definitely a book u have to read in one sitting or within two/three days to enjoy it or you’ll 100% become annoyed with the characters & plot. It’s rlly dense with drama, a lot is happening all the time and it’s so easy to find it tiring so yeah� all that to say, I’m rlly glad I finished it within a couple days lol.

Hunter - I could write a whole ass love letter to this man and still would not be enough to describe how much I loved him. Despite how he has been acting, this boy is the sweetest. He is pure and I can see all the good Dylan sees in him without doubting it.
The mystery of why Hunter left, what pushed him and what has been going on with his twin brother Kade along with Dylan. I know people spend quite a while theorizing the issues and what the end game would be but honestly I was rooting for Hunter x Dylan from the beginning, and I am glad they got their story and their HEA.
I am not going to write the whole plot or summarize everything because this would end up being extremely long.
I'll say that this is one of those books where you need to pay attention to every sentence. Skipping even one can lead to missing out on some key moments and reveals.
Hunter and Kade's relationship have not been the same for years and we see Hunter's POV about what went wrong and how much Kade has destroyed him throughout the years. The constant pushes and keeps Hunter away from Dylan on purpose. Ignoring him and making him the outcast within the friend’s group at school. Also belittling him at every chance he got.
It's a lot. It's even safe to say you will hate Kade a bit, but his reasons will break your heart for the little boy who had to be this way in order to get what he wanted in the end and not let his fears come true.
Kade's reason for pushing Hunter the way he has for years is because he has known for over a decade that Hunter has been in love with Dylan and once they get together, Kade will lose his twin to her. As a child he viewed their moments together with envy and jealousy. He became more erratic with his need to keep them separate and it resulted in his actions.
NOW - Kade has never felt ANYTHING for Dylan beyond the cousin feeling. He does not want her nor has tried anything with her. During the year that Hunter had been gone, Kade barely spent any alone time with Dylan and did not seem to care much about what she was doing.
One thing to keep in mind is that they are teenagers and are immature to a certain degree. The way they go about things is not perfect and it sometimes borders on childishness.
However, everyone’s growth in this book is fantastic to see but it’s Hunter's growth in this book that is beautiful to witness as he came into his own and stopped feeling like he needed to win over Kade at every turn and also Kade’s growth by finally accepting the truth and revealing his faults that makes this story really come together.
Obviously, this is a love story which as so well done as well.
Dylan and Hunter have the slowest angsty moments in this book. She is taken as a ''hostage'' for two weeks per the school’s tradition and spends those two weeks with Hunter....well in the beginning he was an asshole and kept telling her to go home but eventually when he realizes how much she actually wants HIM and not Kade he comes around and wants to show her how much he has craved her too.
Dylan does not want Kade, she has been confused by his attention for years, but it's always been Hunter she yearns for and misses.
THE SEX SCENES: I loved every second. These two were so hot together. The first time anything serious happens (Chapter 15) was just e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g
FYI on Hunter: He is a virgin. Never seen anyone completely naked until Dylan. Never has wanted anyone else or has done anything with others. His entire life revolves around Dylan.
Dylan is in the same boat concerning her virginity and other guys.
There is a funny scene after the brothers get drunk together where they end up sleeping in the same bed as Dylan (nothing at all happens) and Jared walks in lol this was a great scene.
They will be each other’s first and last.
Another thing to be ready to cry about is the essay Kade wrote. It's heartbreaking. It's confusing at first but it slowly makes sense.
Here are some OW/OM drama info:
OM drama: Hunter believed Dylan and Kade have something going on and they are emotionally connected but it's debunked and these two have NOTHING going on and never have. It's all platonic/family feeling.
OW drama: Dylan believes that Hunter has been with other girls, and she also sees ''Hunter'' sleeping with another girl in his room but it's actually Kade messing with them. Hunter has never wanted anyone else.
This is technically an HFN as we only get a 7-months later epilogue, and they are very much in love BUT this series is not over yet and their interconnected stories will give us more info about their future.
There are also other bits of info that was revealed and explored:
- Farrow is revealed to being Hunter/Kade's uncle and their mother’s half-brother. Though he is the same age as them. Nobody else but Hunter/Farrow and their grandfather knows the truth.
- Tommy is going to be fierce and the perfect match for Kade
- Jared needs to go to therapy after all the shit he had to go through in this book and seeing the three of them in the same bed haha
- We get more info about the legend that surrounds the towns about the girl who was killed and the twin brothers. One of the twins died by suicide and the other is still very much alive with *drum roll* their older brother who was also involved in this chaos who happens to be the teacher we meet in this book but at the end he has disappeared...so this mystery has yet to be fully explained and is probably going to last until the final book?
- James is the MM romance in this series and not Kade as people previously thought
- Quinn and Lucas is official and it is the next book. At the end of this book, we get a preview of their book and it's going to be so good from what just got.
Honestly, this book was just a great way to end the series� center focus on their high school years because the next book and the remaining books will focus on them being older and will be set progressively in a few years� time.

AHH THIS WAS GOOD. Dylan and Hunter 😩 don’t even know why I used to want her with Kade. Hunter is literally obsessed and adores her so much. Maybe it’s because it’s been years since the bonus content or maybe I’ve matured, but I would definitely pick Hunter as well. He’s so thoughtful and caring. Ughh he’s such a sweetheart. I also love how he’s always only wanted Dylan. I love how they both were each other’s first too. After reading Hawke’s book, I didn’t really expect any of the other guys to be virgins. But Hunter only ever wanted Dylan. That was really sweet.

I get she’s a different writer now w different ideas and what she once had excitement & passion .. it probably drifted over the years with other books and ideas and just not being in the mood for it anymore I get it things change.
But I just think authors shouldn’t write second gen series if they really � don’t have any interest in it and are only writing it and finishing out the series bc they promised the readers. I think one upon time back when pen first teased abt all of these characters she was excited to write this. but like she said many times in her group it gets harder to deliver promises or ideas she once spoke abt. & then start writing the series� 6 years later. I get she’s a different writer now w different ideas and what she once had excitement & passion .. it probably drifted over the years with other books and ideas and just not being in the mood for it anymore I get it things change.
But I just think authors shouldn’t write second gen series if they really � don’t have any interest in it and are only writing it and finishing out the series bc they promised the readers. I’d rather read a Quality book than a run of the mill book where I couldn’t give less of a fuck abt the characters bc the author obviously didn’t either.

Look Dylan and hunter don’t have any kind of problems or issues imo they are boring together & boring apart.

I was so excited to read a Dylan/Hunter book after reading the first in this series. I did like this one much better than the first, but for some reason it dragged for me. I wish it was faster paced or shorter, but overall it was a good listen.

March 21, 2022I'm even more excited about this than I am for the story of Quinn and Lucas. It doesn't matter to me who Dylan ends up with. However, after reading that Fall Away Christmas bonus scene, I'm leaning towards Hunter. Simply because he gave something to her. His red and black St. Matthew’s Knights shirt and a cassette tape with a note underneath that says "My colors would look good on you, Pirate." Idk, but reading that part just did something to me 🤧

3.75 felt too low for how much I enjoyed it. The rivalry, tension, fighting for dominance, battling insecurities, and jealousy were so well written and kept me hooked but 4 stars felt slightly high. The intimate scenes didn't hit the way the first book did. The pacing slowed down in the middle but the plot suspense, parents scenes and HunterKade confrontation was everything.
I'm really curious about the plot. There are a few theories I came up with but everything seems so confusing and I love this thing about the author, you can always count on PD to write a gripping plot.
And of course I'm the only one who shipped DylanNoah 😭.I really love them so much. He was always there for her when she needed it.

Team Kade for me, but I won't be terribly upset if it is Hunter either... I just feel what is known so far shows Hunter as a best friend rather than being the soul deep love for Dylan.

anywayssss... long story short this was amazing. it had everything i needed and wanted. penelope douglas is an amazing writer. i love how they can just write character dynamics and tension mixed with exciting plot so well. literally their writing is so unique and enticing that it just hits so well ya know. i cannot wait for the other books in the series BECAUSE I'M JUST SO EXCITED. DYLAN AND KADE ENDGAME I’M BEGGING YOU PEN (2021)
Ese comentario lo puse hace mucho tiempo, es hora de aceptar la realidad: CAÍ ENAMORADA DE DYLAN Y HUNTER, Taylor Swift escribió Midnight Rain pensando en ellos dos. Muchas cosas de las que hablar, pero primero, la quote:
“I love her. She’s social. I’m not. She loves crowds and noise. I don’t. She hates school, and I could keep going forever. She’d risk her life just to feel a rush, while I consider my choices too much. She’s so much like Kade, but she fits my heart like she was cut from it. It’s always been hers.�
Bueno bueno buenooooo debo decir que Penelope lo hizo, ME HIZO DYLANHUNTER shipper. Este es un libro que me costó MUCHO ponerme a leer, no quería, estaba completamente negada a este ship, yo queria a Dylan y Kade juntos a muerte, me parecian una pareja que re podía matchear y me habia quedado enamorada de ellos cuando eran chicos, igualmente nada me va a sacar de mi teoría sobre que Penelope cuando escribió Fall Away pensó en Dylan y Kade juntos, después con el tiempo fue cambiando de opinión pero se justificó todo muy bien así que no me quejo.
Estaba tan empecinada con Dylan y Kade que incluso llegué a odiar a Dylan, no es chiste, en Falls Boys me acuerdo que se me hacía insoportable. Incluso estaba rogando para que no haya nada rari, ni sentimientos Dylan-Kade, no trios ni nada (Penelope más vale que este universo siga siendo extra monogamico), por suerte escribió el libro perfecto y no tuve problema con eso, para Dylan siempre fue Hunter y para Hunter siempre fue Dylan.
Imaginense mi sorpresa que este libro me encantó desde el principio, ya desde el primer capitulo estaba 100% adentro, amando a los personajes y re metida en la historia, Dylan es por lejos uno de los mejores personajes femeninos que alguna vez leí, una reina.
Como dije recien, Dylan ME ENCANTÓ, tenía las ideas MUY claras con todo, de verdad me sorprendió MUCHÍSIMO su personaje, amo que haya sido toda una bad bitch y dentro de todo la “brooding� de la relación. Es un personaje que se anima a todo, no le tiene miedo a nada y tiene claro lo que quiere y no tiene miedo de conseguirlo i mean la chica estuvo viviendo con esos dos turbios sin darse cuenta (me dio un miedo cuando leí ese capitulo). Pero en fin, Dylan Trent TE REZO, perdón por haberte odiado, no entendía NADA. Ayudó mucho el hecho de que haya dejado claro mil veces que no estaba interesada en Kade igual, las cosas como son.
Hunter Caruthers, puedo tener un Hunter en mi vida? LO NECESITO, es el chabon mas bueno que leí en mi vida, es todo lo que esta bien y este comentario viene de alguien que siempre va a elegir al chico brooding y no al golden pero Hunter- me conquistó, me enamoró. Me dio tanta ternura que se haya guardado para ella, fue un hermoso childhood friends to lovers, perdon por haberte menospreciado Hunter, no super valorarte pero DIOS QUE HOMBRE osea entienden que estaba dispuesto a dejar de lado su felicidad y lo que queria con tal de que Dylan fuera feliz? ESTABA DISPUESTA A ENTREGARSELA A KADE, nono Hunter Caruthers el hombre definitivo, te amo muchisimo. Su lugar DEFINITIVAMENTE es Weston y creo que les hizo bien a todos que el se fuera durante un tiempo, el espacio era lo que necesitaban para darse cuenta que de verdad se querían. Hermanas, le hizo una playlist que se llamaba “Pirate Girl� ya está, de verdad es el hombre definitivo, encima me mataba que el le habia dicho “te amo� como dos veces Y ELLA SEGUÍA SIN DECIRSELO, igual era obvio lo que sentía, se amaron desde toda la vida.
A Kade quise zamarrearlo un par de veces durante la historia, cada vez que me enojaba o me frustraba volvía a leer la carta que le escribió a Thomasin porque la verdad que a veces hacia cosas que me daban ganas de pegarle. Es un fuckboy de pies a cabeza que se garcha todo lo que pase, NO PUEDO ESPERAR a que caiga a los pies de Thomasin. Casi lloro con la carta que escribió para que Hunter entrara a la universidad, el solo quería a su hermano para él y no sabia como expresarlo en palabras, tengo la sensación de que Kade va a ser escritor en un futuro. Pero de verdad me alegro de que haya podido recuperar su relación con Hunter, solo necesitaban HABLARLO, se llevan tan naturalmente bien, me encantó verlos como verdaderos hermanos. Estoy muy ansiosa por conocerlo de verdad, a el en primera persona y no a través de los ojos de los demás porque más allá de que algunas actitudes de él no me gustaron en esta historia, fue el primer personaje de Hellbent que captó mi atención.
Farrow� no entendí mucho por qué meterle tanto misterio a él si al final ese tema quedó en la nada, Fallon merece saber que tiene un hermano, ah y btw, era demasiado obvio que era hijo de Ciaran y me molestó no ver cómo se desarrollaba eso, por qué Hunter sabía? Como que quedó muy abierto ese tema y dudo que se toque en Quiet Ones. En fin, amé a Farrow, quiero tenerlo de bestie. Lo que me lleva a otro tema: QUIERO SER UNA REBEL, algo que diferencia a los Rebels de los Pirates es el sentimiento de comunidad que tienen, Hunter y Dylan se sintieron más en casa ahí que en Falls Y CON RAZÓN, sé que Aro tenía una vida de mierda ahí pero de verdad fue hermoso ver como todos se apoyan entre ellos y lowkey me pone un poco triste no volver a ver tan de primera mano el otro lado del rio, espero que con el libro de Tommy se puedan retomar las historias de ellos, aunque Tommy ahora sea una Pirate pero bueno, de corazón es una Rebel y yo tambien quiero ser una.
Con respecto a la leyenda� me da la sensación que es algo que va a pasar durante todo Hellbent, yo pensé que se iba a cortar acá pero no, me molestó que le diera ese “final�, dónde fue Bastian? Qué pasó con ellos? Se fueron de la casa? Quedó demasiado abierto ese tema para mi gusto, encima no me gustó que hayan hablado de Quinn, A QUINN NO ME LA TOCAN. Pero volviendo, me gusta mucho el contraste de la historia de los protagonistas per se con la leyenda urbana, un muy buen plot twist hubo con lo de Manas, no me lo esperaba, aunque lo de Bastian un poco me lo veía venir aunque pensé que era Conor pero EN FIN, necesito saber que le pasó a Winsley aunque claramente no era ninguna santa, debo admitir igual que ese capitulo narrado por Bastian/Manas me gustó osea no porque la Winsley se cogiera a los dos, sino porque fue inesperado y saber que estaban viviendo con Dylan #miedo.
Me encantó vivir la Rivalry Week, me encantó volver a ver a mis personajes favoritos de Fall Away, a Aro y Hawke, Kade, Tommy, Quinn, los amo MUCHISIMO a todos, incluso a James que está bastante estupidizado ahora de chico y a A.J. que se nota que va a ser un personaje con mucha personalidad. Me encantó también que Jared FINALMENTE confíe en Dylan y la deje correr en motos y que Farrow y Noah la ayuden, mi reina merece ser la mejor corredora de motos, periodooo. Pero volviendo, amé como se desarrolló la historia y la relación de Dylan y Hunter, estaban destinados a estar juntos y se dio todo de manera muy natural, me encantó eso, no se por qué evité tanto leer este libro, me estaba perdiendo una joyita y me está matando el hecho de saber que tengo que esperar (con suerte) hasta el año que viene para volver a verlos, quiero saber como siguen las relaciones de todos y viendolos vivir su mejor vida, me quedé enamorada de la relación y la confianza que se tienen Hunter y Dylan, no super ver el potencial de la pareja pero Penelope si y me convenció al toque de que ellos eran meant to be.
AHORA, dos cositas más:

TODO EL PUTO LIBRO ESPERANDO UNA INTERACCIÓN THOMASINKADE, ese final� TENES QUE CERRAR EL ESTADIO. La única escena de ellos dos fue cuando Hunter y Kade estaban manejando al baile y la vieron en el puente y Kade le dice todo serio “Get. Down.� diooooos yo dije nono ESA no puede ser la única escena así que quedé gratamente sorprendida cuando la ultima escena de todas fue de ELLA. Dylan dijo que Kade necesita una chica que sea una santa o que rivalice con su personalidad, creo que ya sabemos cual de las dos va a ser Tommy, LO QUE NECESITO el libro de esos dos, me emocionan un montón, tienen MUCHO potencial.
La segunda cosa Y LA MAS IMPORTANTE:
“Lucas Morrow and I are too old to play together now.�
QUINNLUCAS NADIE LOS AMA MÁS QUE YO. Debo admitir que apenas tuve Pirate Girls en mis manos me fui a leer ese adelanto, lo leí hace meses y lo releí BASTANTES veces más. LUCAS ESTÁ DE VUELTA EN FALLS Y MÁS VALE QUE NO SE VAYA. Al fin van a estar los dos en un mismo lugar y ya siendo adultos, Lucas com sogas� nono estos dos PROMETEN. Además espero que ya para su libro le digan a Quinn sobre Carnival Tower, a fin de cuentas está en SU pastelería. Hermanas lo que grité con la gorra, esta pareja promete MUCHISIMO y me entusiasma un montón leerlos, este ship y thomasinkade es por lo que sigo viva, le imploro a Penelope que se apure para escribirlos porque NO AGUANTO MÁS. Me encantan, Quinn está enamorada desde siempre de Lucas, incluso en Pirate Girls Dylan también lo dice. No pueeo esperar para leerlos.
En fin, estoy MUY sorprendida con todo lo que me gustó este libro, tenia expectativas muy bajas pero Penelope Douglas lo hizo de nuevo, es por esto que es una de mis autoras favoritas, su manera de escribir, la quimica de los personajes, las historias de misterio que involucra en la trama, los lugares que crea, es todo impresionante y me vuela la cabeza, te rezo Penelope. Los amo Dylan y Hunter, espero seguir viendolos viviendo su mejor vida a lo largo de todo Hellbent, se lo merecen.
Ese comentario lo puse hace mucho tiempo, es hora de aceptar la realidad: CAÍ ENAMORADA DE DYLAN Y HUNTER, Taylor Swift escribió Midnight Rain pensando en ellos dos. Muchas cosas de las que hablar, pero primero, la quote:
“I love her. She’s social. I’m not. She loves crowds and noise. I don’t. She hates school, and I could keep going forever. She’d risk her life just to feel a rush, while I consider my choices too much. She’s so much like Kade, but she fits my heart like she was cut from it. It’s always been hers.�
Bueno bueno buenooooo debo decir que Penelope lo hizo, ME HIZO DYLANHUNTER shipper. Este es un libro que me costó MUCHO ponerme a leer, no quería, estaba completamente negada a este ship, yo queria a Dylan y Kade juntos a muerte, me parecian una pareja que re podía matchear y me habia quedado enamorada de ellos cuando eran chicos, igualmente nada me va a sacar de mi teoría sobre que Penelope cuando escribió Fall Away pensó en Dylan y Kade juntos, después con el tiempo fue cambiando de opinión pero se justificó todo muy bien así que no me quejo.
Estaba tan empecinada con Dylan y Kade que incluso llegué a odiar a Dylan, no es chiste, en Falls Boys me acuerdo que se me hacía insoportable. Incluso estaba rogando para que no haya nada rari, ni sentimientos Dylan-Kade, no trios ni nada (Penelope más vale que este universo siga siendo extra monogamico), por suerte escribió el libro perfecto y no tuve problema con eso, para Dylan siempre fue Hunter y para Hunter siempre fue Dylan.
Imaginense mi sorpresa que este libro me encantó desde el principio, ya desde el primer capitulo estaba 100% adentro, amando a los personajes y re metida en la historia, Dylan es por lejos uno de los mejores personajes femeninos que alguna vez leí, una reina.
Como dije recien, Dylan ME ENCANTÓ, tenía las ideas MUY claras con todo, de verdad me sorprendió MUCHÍSIMO su personaje, amo que haya sido toda una bad bitch y dentro de todo la “brooding� de la relación. Es un personaje que se anima a todo, no le tiene miedo a nada y tiene claro lo que quiere y no tiene miedo de conseguirlo i mean la chica estuvo viviendo con esos dos turbios sin darse cuenta (me dio un miedo cuando leí ese capitulo). Pero en fin, Dylan Trent TE REZO, perdón por haberte odiado, no entendía NADA. Ayudó mucho el hecho de que haya dejado claro mil veces que no estaba interesada en Kade igual, las cosas como son.
Hunter Caruthers, puedo tener un Hunter en mi vida? LO NECESITO, es el chabon mas bueno que leí en mi vida, es todo lo que esta bien y este comentario viene de alguien que siempre va a elegir al chico brooding y no al golden pero Hunter- me conquistó, me enamoró. Me dio tanta ternura que se haya guardado para ella, fue un hermoso childhood friends to lovers, perdon por haberte menospreciado Hunter, no super valorarte pero DIOS QUE HOMBRE osea entienden que estaba dispuesto a dejar de lado su felicidad y lo que queria con tal de que Dylan fuera feliz? ESTABA DISPUESTA A ENTREGARSELA A KADE, nono Hunter Caruthers el hombre definitivo, te amo muchisimo. Su lugar DEFINITIVAMENTE es Weston y creo que les hizo bien a todos que el se fuera durante un tiempo, el espacio era lo que necesitaban para darse cuenta que de verdad se querían. Hermanas, le hizo una playlist que se llamaba “Pirate Girl� ya está, de verdad es el hombre definitivo, encima me mataba que el le habia dicho “te amo� como dos veces Y ELLA SEGUÍA SIN DECIRSELO, igual era obvio lo que sentía, se amaron desde toda la vida.
A Kade quise zamarrearlo un par de veces durante la historia, cada vez que me enojaba o me frustraba volvía a leer la carta que le escribió a Thomasin porque la verdad que a veces hacia cosas que me daban ganas de pegarle. Es un fuckboy de pies a cabeza que se garcha todo lo que pase, NO PUEDO ESPERAR a que caiga a los pies de Thomasin. Casi lloro con la carta que escribió para que Hunter entrara a la universidad, el solo quería a su hermano para él y no sabia como expresarlo en palabras, tengo la sensación de que Kade va a ser escritor en un futuro. Pero de verdad me alegro de que haya podido recuperar su relación con Hunter, solo necesitaban HABLARLO, se llevan tan naturalmente bien, me encantó verlos como verdaderos hermanos. Estoy muy ansiosa por conocerlo de verdad, a el en primera persona y no a través de los ojos de los demás porque más allá de que algunas actitudes de él no me gustaron en esta historia, fue el primer personaje de Hellbent que captó mi atención.
Farrow� no entendí mucho por qué meterle tanto misterio a él si al final ese tema quedó en la nada, Fallon merece saber que tiene un hermano, ah y btw, era demasiado obvio que era hijo de Ciaran y me molestó no ver cómo se desarrollaba eso, por qué Hunter sabía? Como que quedó muy abierto ese tema y dudo que se toque en Quiet Ones. En fin, amé a Farrow, quiero tenerlo de bestie. Lo que me lleva a otro tema: QUIERO SER UNA REBEL, algo que diferencia a los Rebels de los Pirates es el sentimiento de comunidad que tienen, Hunter y Dylan se sintieron más en casa ahí que en Falls Y CON RAZÓN, sé que Aro tenía una vida de mierda ahí pero de verdad fue hermoso ver como todos se apoyan entre ellos y lowkey me pone un poco triste no volver a ver tan de primera mano el otro lado del rio, espero que con el libro de Tommy se puedan retomar las historias de ellos, aunque Tommy ahora sea una Pirate pero bueno, de corazón es una Rebel y yo tambien quiero ser una.
Con respecto a la leyenda� me da la sensación que es algo que va a pasar durante todo Hellbent, yo pensé que se iba a cortar acá pero no, me molestó que le diera ese “final�, dónde fue Bastian? Qué pasó con ellos? Se fueron de la casa? Quedó demasiado abierto ese tema para mi gusto, encima no me gustó que hayan hablado de Quinn, A QUINN NO ME LA TOCAN. Pero volviendo, me gusta mucho el contraste de la historia de los protagonistas per se con la leyenda urbana, un muy buen plot twist hubo con lo de Manas, no me lo esperaba, aunque lo de Bastian un poco me lo veía venir aunque pensé que era Conor pero EN FIN, necesito saber que le pasó a Winsley aunque claramente no era ninguna santa, debo admitir igual que ese capitulo narrado por Bastian/Manas me gustó osea no porque la Winsley se cogiera a los dos, sino porque fue inesperado y saber que estaban viviendo con Dylan #miedo.
Me encantó vivir la Rivalry Week, me encantó volver a ver a mis personajes favoritos de Fall Away, a Aro y Hawke, Kade, Tommy, Quinn, los amo MUCHISIMO a todos, incluso a James que está bastante estupidizado ahora de chico y a A.J. que se nota que va a ser un personaje con mucha personalidad. Me encantó también que Jared FINALMENTE confíe en Dylan y la deje correr en motos y que Farrow y Noah la ayuden, mi reina merece ser la mejor corredora de motos, periodooo. Pero volviendo, amé como se desarrolló la historia y la relación de Dylan y Hunter, estaban destinados a estar juntos y se dio todo de manera muy natural, me encantó eso, no se por qué evité tanto leer este libro, me estaba perdiendo una joyita y me está matando el hecho de saber que tengo que esperar (con suerte) hasta el año que viene para volver a verlos, quiero saber como siguen las relaciones de todos y viendolos vivir su mejor vida, me quedé enamorada de la relación y la confianza que se tienen Hunter y Dylan, no super ver el potencial de la pareja pero Penelope si y me convenció al toque de que ellos eran meant to be.
AHORA, dos cositas más:
“Sorry, Dylan,� Thomasin says, wiping off the water under her chin. “But I think I’ll let Kade have his fun, after all.�
She slides the glass door shut and walks away, letting out a long breath.
“I’ll be fun, too, someday,� she whispers.�
TODO EL PUTO LIBRO ESPERANDO UNA INTERACCIÓN THOMASINKADE, ese final� TENES QUE CERRAR EL ESTADIO. La única escena de ellos dos fue cuando Hunter y Kade estaban manejando al baile y la vieron en el puente y Kade le dice todo serio “Get. Down.� diooooos yo dije nono ESA no puede ser la única escena así que quedé gratamente sorprendida cuando la ultima escena de todas fue de ELLA. Dylan dijo que Kade necesita una chica que sea una santa o que rivalice con su personalidad, creo que ya sabemos cual de las dos va a ser Tommy, LO QUE NECESITO el libro de esos dos, me emocionan un montón, tienen MUCHO potencial.
La segunda cosa Y LA MAS IMPORTANTE:
“Lucas Morrow and I are too old to play together now.�
QUINNLUCAS NADIE LOS AMA MÁS QUE YO. Debo admitir que apenas tuve Pirate Girls en mis manos me fui a leer ese adelanto, lo leí hace meses y lo releí BASTANTES veces más. LUCAS ESTÁ DE VUELTA EN FALLS Y MÁS VALE QUE NO SE VAYA. Al fin van a estar los dos en un mismo lugar y ya siendo adultos, Lucas com sogas� nono estos dos PROMETEN. Además espero que ya para su libro le digan a Quinn sobre Carnival Tower, a fin de cuentas está en SU pastelería. Hermanas lo que grité con la gorra, esta pareja promete MUCHISIMO y me entusiasma un montón leerlos, este ship y thomasinkade es por lo que sigo viva, le imploro a Penelope que se apure para escribirlos porque NO AGUANTO MÁS. Me encantan, Quinn está enamorada desde siempre de Lucas, incluso en Pirate Girls Dylan también lo dice. No pueeo esperar para leerlos.
En fin, estoy MUY sorprendida con todo lo que me gustó este libro, tenia expectativas muy bajas pero Penelope Douglas lo hizo de nuevo, es por esto que es una de mis autoras favoritas, su manera de escribir, la quimica de los personajes, las historias de misterio que involucra en la trama, los lugares que crea, es todo impresionante y me vuela la cabeza, te rezo Penelope. Los amo Dylan y Hunter, espero seguir viendolos viviendo su mejor vida a lo largo de todo Hellbent, se lo merecen.

The heroine: Dylan Trent - she is the daughter of Jared and Tatum Trent from Bully. Dylan is a senior in high school and rivalry week is about to start, though it technically lasts two weeks. She races motorcycles, though her parents don’t know about it, and she would like to keep it that way since her father (who owns a cycle racing team), doesn’t want her racing motorcycles. She grew up next door to her Uncle Jax and his wife and kids. Her best friend Aro lives next door as well and dates her cousin Hawke. She grew up in Shelburne Falls whose rivals are Weston. Shelburne Falls is the wealthy suburb, while Weston is inner-city and filled with kids who grew up in rougher situations.
The Heroes: Hunter Caruthers - Hunter goes to Weston while his twin Kade goes to Shelburne Falls. Kade can’t wait to face his brother on the field during rivalry week. They are cousins with Dylan Trent, though they don’t share any blood. The brothers grew up with Dylan, their fathers are stepbrothers and Hunter hasn’t been around since he moved and enrolled in St. Mathew’s, a Weston school. When they were together at Thanksgiving, Hunter wouldn’t even look at Dylan and rarely speaks to his brother Kade.
The Story: The rivalry between the Shelburne Falls Pirates and the Weston Rebels is exciting and crazy and includes a prisoner exchange. Each school sends a prisoner to the rival school for two weeks. Weston wants Dylan as their prisoner and when she finds out they have a motorcycle she can use, she agrees, though they tell them that Hunter left Weston and doesn’t go there anymore, when Kade asks for Hunter in the prisoner exchange. Dylan is the first woman Shelburne Falls traded since the girl that never came home, story was that she was tied up in the trunk of a car that went over a bridge and she drowned.
I liked this story quite a bit, there were definitely a lot of references to the Fall Away series as Dylans parents were a big part of that series. Hunter and Kade’s parents were Madoc and Fallon, so were a part of that same series. Not to mention the prominence of racing which was a huge theme in that series. I loved that series, so I liked all the references.
I also liked this couple, it was so obvious from the beginning that they had been in love with each other for years, but Kade was in the middle of it, which caused issues with both of them. The only thing I didn’t really like is how innocent both of them were. I wish that Hunter would have been a bit more self assured, and it would have been nice if they both were more sexually experienced.
This audiobook was done in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Shiloh James and Axel Bosley. Shiloh has a nice voice which is soft yet clear and is a good narrator, though not one of my favorites, but she definitely sounded age appropriate for this story. Axel Bosley doesn’t sound age appropriate at all. He sounds too old, and his voice isn’t deep like I like male narrators to be. It was extremely annoying.

4.5 (I go back and forth between 4 and 5 so here we are)
This book was nothing that I was expecting! Yes, there is a romance, but there was also this really interesting dynamic with the brothers as well. Once, I got into the book, I couldn't put it down. To avoid spoilers, I am going to leave it at that.
What did I love:
-Dylan is so much like her dad, and I am sucker for a heroine who is her own person. I love that she found a place of belonging in her book.
-Hunter's evolution as a character was really amazing. I loved the revelation he comes to at the end. It was poignant and really impactful.
-Kade, what a little sh!!!T, but I loved him even when I wanted to throttle him.
-The Weston crew. I loved them all, and I know it is an author's worst nightmare to see this, but I want books for them, Fallow particularly.
- Any cameos of the parents. I live for them and eat them up. Reminds me so much of why I love them.
-I really loved this idea that the your happy ending can look different and change. Your goal and dream will evolve as you evolve, and I think sometimes we hold onto something we think we want vs. considering what we really want. I also love the idea of POV matters. How one person sees and event and feels about it might not be how someone else sees the same exact thing. Both sides are valid and communication is important.
-Pen's writing as always is amazing. There were so many lines that just hit me in my soul and have me being like YESSS, this. I love that they write unique characters and storylines, and their diction and syntax are just always so well done. I will read anything they write.
What I needed more;
-It took a bit for the story to get going. This story is very character / relationship driven vs. plot driven, and while it takes place during rivalry week, I did expect the events to play a bigger role in the story.
-I wish the mystery they are solving or researching was playing a more prominent role. It feels a bit like it always is like the last ending piece. It is really interesting to me and how it connects the two towns, but it doesn't always feel like a part of the story, more a secondary storyline that runs separate from the main couple story.
Pirate Girl solidified what I already knew, I LOVE this world, these characters, Pen's writing. I am already dying for the next one they tease at the end of Pirate Girl.

Reading a new Penelope Douglas book us always so nostalgic and I just love feeling like I was in the Bully and Corrupt worlds again. We have high school kids causing all kinds of antics and the heroine wanting her best friend to talk to her again. So she is "kidnapped" by the other school to see him again and has to spend two weeks on their side of town and going to their school. I really loved this relationship dynamic and how things progressed. I will say there were soooo many characters and it was sometimes hard for me to keep track of them all, but the vibes of this book were so good. There are no rules and the characters just cause all sorts of mayhem. The brother dynamic was adorable in the end and I just had so much fun reading this one!!

January 30, 2023Okay maybe I'm way way off. Maybe this won't even happen, but do you guys remember the story Hawke was telling Aro about the twins who shared the same girl and that's how the rivalry week was created? This book would be brilliant if the story just repeated itself
