Silex and the City est sa premi猫re s茅rie, saga familiale pr茅historique et satire implacable de notre quotidien d'hommes modernes.
Excellent!
In this adventure, Lucky Luke meets Auguste Bartholdi, the French sculptor who created the statue of liberty, while he's traveling across America, to find some money for the completion of the statue. The legendary cowboy joins him in his journey, since things aren't going very smoothly, due to the involvement of Locker, an American prison owner, who wants to build a security prison, at the exact place where the statue is supposed to be raised. So Lucky Luke helps Auguste raise the necessary amount to finish the statue and also follows him in Paris, to protect the statue overseas, from Locker's people. This was a pretty fun read. 础肠丑诲茅 and Jul are able to create a story that captures the spirit of Lucky Luke very well, even without Morris of Goscinny's involvement. That being said, their absence is still visible, maybe not in the artwork or in the basic story, but due to something else that's almost impossible to comprehend. The Lucky Luke comics by Morris and Goscinny had some kind of magic, that these later issues lack. But I might just be a bit biased, since these comics where a huge part of my childhood, so they have a huge sentimental value to me. The writing in this story is pretty good. Lucky Luke's personality is consistent with his classic comics, the story is very interesting and fun and there are some very good jokes, that actually made me laugh. Also, it has a lot of real history, combined with fiction, which is a crucial part of Lucky Luke's stories. Furthermore the villain, Locker, is certainly very unique, especially compared to most of Luke's usual antagonists. His character is quite one dimensional, but his motives are quite interesting and Jul did a great job in making him very unlikable. Moreover, something else that I really liked in this comic is how it plays with the themes of freedom and captivity and their antithesis. It perfectly shows people's instinctive need for freedom and how some people try to go against that. At the end of the day, this was a very nice Lucky Luke story that's certainly gonna be very enjoyable for every fan of the legendary cowboy of the west. The artwork by 础肠丑诲茅 is very similar to Morris' work and at some technical aspects it's even better, but it's lacking at others. A place were 础肠丑诲茅 is certainly lacking is character design. Established characters like Lucky Luke, Calamity Jane and the Daltons look great, but new characters like Locker look pretty bad. Also, while there's a lot of humor in this comic, 础肠丑诲茅 isn't particularly great at visual comedy, which is an important aspect of the Lucky Luke comics. Overall, this was a very fun read and even though it wasn't as good as the older Lucky Luke comics, it was certainly not bad. 7/10
I normally wouldn't track my reading of a short comic like this on 欧宝娱乐 (also cause I normally don't read any) but this is the first full 'thing' I read in German so it's a memorable occasion.
The premise feels rather wasted, given that it takes half the pages before Luke finally boards the boat to France, and he neither sees nor does all that much in there - a brief few pretty images of Paris only tease what it could have been. The artwork feels weird, dropping straight into the uncanny valley of trying so hard to imitate Morris's style yet not nailing it.
I always like the shadow gag when it shows up, but it was too little too late as far as this story was concerned.

脡 divertido, mas n茫o 茅 inesquec铆vel.
My best experiences of french culture has been through graphic novels. Scotland and France. But Asterix and Om-Pa-Pa are better than Oor Wullie and The Broons. This is a series I'd had a little experience of a while ago but decided to pick up another now for some background reading to try and boost the french signal in my brain and temporarily suppress the portuguese one, at least for the duration of the holiday. The conceit - the building of the statue of liberty being delayed by a guy who wants to build a prison on an island in New Your Harbour - is a pretty good one, although it gets a bit lost in in-jokes to really remain coherent.
This FrancoBelg duo does justice to their inherited title better than any others that I've come across. I don't like when a new artist tries to put their spin on the look of things and the art is as Morris as I can imagine! The writing follows the same conventions and such but I give some leeway there to add to it- in this case I love all of the educational asides that have been in there every album.

This book was really fun to read. It kept me wanting to read more and more! And the depictions were great, of the characters! Good going!! I recommend this book!

Plein de r茅f茅rences 脿 la pop culture et beaucoup d鈥檋umour. Belle petite lecture :))
