Alaskan Pebble Gifters #1

A Pebble for Lewis

Rate this book
alternate cover edition of ASIN B081T9LBGY

Lewis has never been kissed.

Omega penguin shifters aren’t allowed any physical contact with an alpha until their Pebble Gifting Season, when alphas present a pebble to their desired mate. Lewis has always followed the rules.

Until he meets Todd. A polar bear shifter.

Everyone knows that polar bear shifters are unreliable players who don’t mate for life. But Todd is breathtakingly beautiful, with a body as big as a mountain and a head of thick, white hair. Lewis can’t manage to look away.

In Anchorage Alaska where penguin shifters and polar bear shifters have been at odds for over a century, even a friendship between Todd and Lewis is forbidden. But as Lewis’s Pebble Gifting Season draws closer, their forbidden friendship turns into a passion neither of them can ignore.

A Pebble for Lewis is a 37,000-word best-friends-to-lovers romance with a size difference, knotting, and MPreg of the penguin egg variety. It’s set in the same world as the Heron Manor series, but it stands alone.

OMG! This is seriously so cute and fluffy and cute as a button! I loved this story so so much! 😍 I mean I enjoyed “Nerds who Knot series so I was so excited when I heard there was a new book coming with a penguin shifter! 😱 I mean how many times do we see a shifter book with a penguin shifter in it? OMG! So worth the wait! 🥰

It was young love at first sight for Lewis and Todd. Lewis was only 17 when he first met the drop dead gorgeous polar bear shifter Todd. It wasn’t a joyous occasion when they first met because Lewis father was removing his bond necklace with Todd’s help but a tentative friendship has blossomed between them. And it later morphed into something so much more. They are each other’s first love but they come from two very different communities. It’s unheard of for a penguin shifter omega to mate with a polar bear alpha. Will the lovers prevail and get their HEA in the end?

Again, it’s so fluffy and cute that I loved every single second reading this story. 💜 This is almost angst free and it was just what I needed at that moment. And bonus point, not only did I enjoy the love and romance between Lewis and Todd, I really really enjoyed reading about the supporting characters in the series. I really can’t wait for Daniel’s story in the series. Lewis and Todd’s love is pure, innocent, sensual and ultimately so heartwarming. And man, they are so hot together. 🔥🔥🔥 Loved, loved, loooooved it! 😍 I really can’t wait for next book in the series. Highly recommended! 👏

When I say, A Pebble for Lewis is without doubt the sweetest , most charming and feel good book, I read this year; it isn't me gushing or/and hyperbolizing ; because if that were the case, I don't have any problems admitting .

So, yes, this story is all that and it also has an interesting, layered, detailed world building and Lore around it. Amy Bellows took all we know about Penguins and Polar Bears , character traits, social structure, mating habits, hatching and created a extraordinary world where penguins and Polar bears shifters exist and mate and prosper. And told so vividly and with such a realism , at one point, I had trouble separating what is real and what is the lore she created.

Lewis and Todd are likeable, sweet characters. Their undeniable chemistry , scorching passion , love, tenderness and need for each other made them a memorable and unforgettable couple.

Throughout this entertaining story, I had a big happy smile on my face and it left me with a happy and content heart.

Received a copy of A Pebble for Lewis through the publisher and/or author and this is my impartial review.

“He’s my alpha. My best friend. My mountain. And the view from his peak is glorious.

This was just the right amount of fluff I needed even though I wanted to stop reading Amy’s books few days ago LMAO. Full full of sweetness, from the beginning, it’s like the first sip of morning hot coffee just when you’re about to start your day. Ceh, now, I am being poetic. But seriously, this felt so much like it.

I love the differences that they share. Despite coming from different cultures, they manage to find each other and respect each other’s needs and wants. They manage to find each other 🥰 And the communication…damn, talk about futures 🥹 they are perfect <3

“Polar bear shifters are the ones who go on and on about the power of love. Are you in love with me or not?

“I am! But I want to be sure I could make you happy. Do you want me to lie to you just so I can get you in my bed? Penguin shifters are the ones who go on and on about planning for success, right? C’mon, Lewis. Plan with me.

Ahhh..”plan with me. I’m melting 🥹💗

Lewis’s character is soo adorable and relatable. He’s a scaredy-cat, shy and giddy. I love him. Todd is overprotective, kind, selfless and soo big compared to Lewis. Big everything. Heart, soul and even his physique. They’re soo adorable together.

This story jumps one year to another until Lewis turn 23 for the Pebble Gifting Season (Mating Season) and every year they shared was swoony and heartwarming. It was entertaining, honestly. I couldn’t stop reading and couldn’t stop going back. It was so much fun! I love the relationship development, journey of them getting to know each other as friends, and then turn into something else in secret, and then mating, finally, the kids! Their love devotion and those sweet moments they share together are so memorable <3

Without a doubt the most adorable, sweet and just lovely m/m love story I have read. Lewis and Todd are totally wonderful and they way they come together despite such wide cultural (penguin & polar bear) is pretty awesome. Loved how once they realized they wanted to be more than friends, the first thing they did was openly discuss how they would need to understand each other's culture and decide for each step how to proceed together as a couple. Anything that happened before that didn't matter, once they were together it sure would have and I liked the way the author handled that. Some other readers have suggested that they thought Todd cheated on Lewis, but this was long before they were a couple. Just an incredible job by Ms. Bellows!

Oct 2024 - 4 stars

Re-read on audio and would not recommend the audio unless you're keen on the peppy-American style of narration. It's not for me and I really struggled, almost quitting on the audio.

Dec 2023 - 4 stars

This held up well on the re-read. I once again appreciated their long friendship and bond, the respect they each have for the other's cultural traditions, the hilarious nesting scene. I found Lewis to be a great example of a character who's soft without being a doormat. I did still find that the ending of this one fizzled out, while the terrain was set for the following book, which is disappointing.

This book was on my mind because I came across a post I wrote a year ago saying I didn't like omegaverse (since proven to be false). I thought this was the first omegaverse book I read and figured I should re-read it. It turns out it was actually the 2nd, but regardless I don't know why I dove in here and would probably not recommend this for someone who doesn't already know they like omegaverse or mpreg. I mean...it takes more than eggpreg to phase me these days but I'm not sure why I ever thought this would be a good entry point to the genre. See my confusion about my feelings on eggpreg in my initial review below and take heed.

Feb 2023 - 3.5 stars

A sweet omegaverse/mpreg/shifter story with some pacing issues.

Todd and Lewis meet at 17. Todd is a polar bear shifter, known for their short-term mating and promiscuity. Lewis is a penguin shifter, who mate for life and have strict rules and ceremonies to respect during the process.

They become online friends because they don't think their friends and families would understand, and don't see each other again until 2 years later. The story doesn't dwell on the earlier years but gives just enough background for the reader to understand their relationship. I love stories where the couples have known each other for years.

I did find though that the time skips were a bit abrupt, and I think this would have worked better if it had been fleshed out just a bit more.

This story was a nice exploration of the difficulties of a multi-cultural relationship. The extra lengths Todd took to respect the traditions of Lewis' pebble ceremony were so sweet. And I'll admit my heart did a cute little leap when

The birth scene was weirdly erotic? I don't want to kink-shame anyone, but it was a lot, and this isn't really my usual thing. Actually, maybe I did enjoy it? I was definitely very confused about the whole thing. The nesting/pillow scene was hilarious though.

I was enjoying this a fair bit, but it kind of went off the rails at the end which is the main reason I've rounded this down. It ends quite suddenly, and we lean straight into setting the scene for the next book which I thought was quite disappointing. I guess Todd & Lewis will feature heavily but I feel like we didn't get closure on their story.

Reread/Relisten: February 2023

Same as before, I wanted to go back in to this world and so glad I did. Forgot how sweet these books are.

3-3.5 stars July 2022

this book just made me smile, it is just a sweet little shifter book about penguins and polar bears, two shifters i haven't read about before. I loved Todd he was the sweetest bear ever, Lewis was sometimes annoying but i let it go since they were adorable together haha.

i think the next book will be interesting with Lewis's Dad and Ansel. In this book both Todd and Lewis were perfectly fine with Daniel (Lewis's dad) and Ansel's relationship right off the bat which i was shocked about haha.

Mpreg, shifters, Polar Bear and the Penguin ! A light-hearted look at a new set of mating shifters.

Our Polar Bear is Todd, the gentle yet wild, Jewelry Store owner on the Polar Bear side of town. Lewis and his father are there to get his Dad's "pebble necklace" removed, because Lewis' Dad ran off, and his Dad, Daniel, doesn't want to be "claimed" anymore. When Lewis and Todd meet, they are attracted to each other strongly, like "mates" deep. TODD

They are both 19, and adorable Lewis must wait until his Pebble Ceremony when he's 23, so the guys begin to hang out, playing video games and are fast friends, but deny themselves anything more... for quite awhile.
LEWIS

Polar Bears do not mate for life as the Penguins do, so we have that twist to deal with.
We have time spans, until we finally get to see the guys sexy times, firsts for Lewis, and the passion is wild.
Each man finds out each other's species routines, and ceremony details, so when the time comes, Todd can present his pebble for Lewis to accept.
We learn all of the rules, sequence of events, and then watch as Todd, who has done his homework, presents his pebble for Lewis.
The pregnancy and egg laying and more are shown, and we see a HEA, plus the promise of another fun romance.
ENJOY !

This is not something that I'd normally read. A romance between an alpha polar bear shifter and an omega penguin shifter? Yeah... if it werent for the enthusiasm of a new GR friend I definitely wouldn’t have given it the time of day. It being less than 150 pages also helped. And you know what? I actually liked this story. It was very sweet and the main characters really grew on me. The shifters were usually in their human forms so it wasn't as strange as I thought it would be.

I plan on continuing the series. 3.25 stars

Todd is just the sweetest! Honestly!
"C’mon, Lewis. Plan with me. Isn't this the most romantic thing?

And he reassures him about the most unhinged things... "But don’t worry about it, okay? I’m sure whatever body hair you have is lovely.
💀What an unusual worry.

This guy, though! A masterclass in romance.
“You don’t understand. I don’t want to get by or coast. I want your Pebble Gifting Season to be so good that when we’re a hundred years old and can’t remember a damn thing, you still remember how I wooed you.
մǻ🥹🥹🥹

Also, penguin shifters are so logical with romance because wdym "We share our Pebble Gifting Portfolios. You can look up templates online. It’s a lengthy document. It has a full outline of our finances, family tree, genetic tests, life goals, and grades—
💀???

Men call us gold diggers for wanting to know their financial status but PENGUIN SHIFTERS ARE GETTING NOTARIZED BANK STATEMENTS FROM THE PROSPECTIVE ALPHA MATES SO YOU SEE? YOU SEE?!

Four years later, he's still so nervous! Even after all this time.
'One million butterflies in my stomach. Check. A heart so full of love for Lewis that I won’t survive if he turns me down. Check.'

Now, I won't lie, the laying of eggs was a path I had not anticipated. But it was handled in such a cute and funny way that it stopped being odd.

I really giggled at the stabbing of pillows to get stuffing for the nest.
'I hear him talking to someone. Maybe he’s called a pillow man to bring us dozens and dozens of pillows so I can harvest their insides for my nest.' 💀💀💀

“Well, I assume that’s why you made a phone call. Obviously, I need more pillows. Tell the pillow man that a dozen should be fine.
Imperious Lewis is my favorite Lewis.

'Todd suggests buying a heat lamp, but I calmly tell him that no egg of mine will be warmed by a lamp.'

If you're ever in the mood for a low angst fluffy feel good romance with nesting, I highly recommend.

Adorable.

I loved how both of these guys didn't fit the mold that most of their shifter-kin expected them to fit into. Lewis was much more adventuresome and Todd was much more steadfast and romance minded.

That scene with Ansel was a bit cringe...because it made Lewis doubt himself and his "worth" as a potential mate for someone who seemed to be less permanently inclined to one partner. But it did serve to show how Todd just didn't want to have sex with anyone but Lewis, that he was already emotionally invested and I think he needed that wake-up call to actually put the romance into motion. From that point on there was no doubt...and he worked really hard to be the kind of mate Lewis deserved. Also, Ansel becomes their biggest cheerleader and friend, paving the way for them with the other Polar Bear shifters - and also maybe into Lewis' dad??? (next installment) - so he's redeemed in my eyes. (Not that he really needed it; evidently Polar Bear shifters have a sort of heat every month and since they don't tend to form permanent romantic attachments it's typical for a friend to help them out, and Todd has helped Ansel before.)

I adored all the little things Todd did for Lewis, and how he tried so hard to honor the Penguin traditions with the Pebble Gifting Season activities, from finding and presenting the pebble to Lewis to having a seriously prepared portfolio to show his worth as a potential mate to Lewis' dad. I also loved that there were Polar Bear shifter traditions and expectations and that it didn't matter that Lewis wasn't one of them, Todd still needed (and wanted) to fulfill his obligations. I too could get on board with the daily foot rubs and hand-massages!!

I'm putting the next one on the TBR (well, I will when it comes out) because, while I'm interested in how two "omegas" might make a bond, I'm kinda hoping there will be more on the two kids and their dual-shifter status. Not something I've read before, I don't think...

Although I kept thinking that I should find this book ridiculous, I really enjoyed it. I was telling the plot to my husband and he stared at me like I am crazy. So don’t let a penguin shifter and a polar bear shifter turn you off. I recommend this as a totally sweet low angst read.

This was a really cute start to what seems like an adorable series.

I am use to reading the enemy to lovers troupe, however, this was so different. Secret best friends who turn into lovers.

Lewis and Todd were so freaking cute together. I loved how Todd was so determined to prove himself to Lewis and his dad that he was dependable and was not like other Polar Bear Shifters.

The delivery scene was fascinating to me, I have read many MPreg books and that was a first for me and I was impressed.

I am very much looking for to reading Daniel's and Ansel's book.

I am DNF-Ing at 8%.

A drunk 19 year old and his virtual 19 year old boyfriend who tells us that “a drunk Todd is his favourite is not something I would equate with neither cute nor sweet .

The fact that teenagers can drink is not a shock to me, especially so because I am European. But I live in the States now and the story is unfolding in the States, so let’s say I have certain expectations from the books set in the US. Besides, drunk people of any age are not generally attractive.

First person narrative is not called for. The writing is awkward. Times gaps during which important things happen shows me that the author does not want to do serious work.

1 star for the first 8%.

Oh now this was just adorable. So soft and sweet! I'd seen this book recommended a few times, but I don't typically go for shifter books. I decided to venture from my usual tastes for a discord reading challenge and picked this because it features unique shifters. I'm so glad I did because it was a light, quick read with all of the warm fuzzy feelings you hope to get from a story like this. I really enjoyed it!

PENGUIN AND POLAR BEAR SHIFTERS ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That was my first thought when I heard about the Alaskan Pebble Gifters series - um, yes please, give me the most cutest possibly shifter books ever? And A Pebble for Lewis absolutely delivers - it's short, adorable, and incredibly interesting as Amy Bellows outlines all of the differences between penguin and polar bear shifter culture. HIGHLY recommend this series if you like omegaverse and want something a little different!

Gah, I'm still so giddy about how cute this book was. Lewis and Todd are childhood friends, but they are hesitant to become anything more despite their obvious attraction to each other because they come from totally different worlds. Lewis, a penguin shifter, was brought up to wait for his perfect mate that would stay with him forever. Polar bear culture, however, assumes that all bonds are temporary, and while sometimes polar bear shifters for longer term attachments, nothing is forever. However, Todd is intent on ignoring polar bear shifter wisdom and courting Lewis that way he's always dreamed of - including giving him a VERY special pebble during his highly ceremonial Pebble Gifting Season. Despite their differences and some setbacks, they end up being incredibly happy with each other, subverting both of their cultures to find love together.

I absolutely LOVED all of the quirky, interesting facts about the different shifter cultures - and why was so much of it so cute! The writing was great, the spice was incredible - basically this was everything I wanted from a shorter read. I cannot wait to read more of Amy's shifter series, especially the ones based on cute animals - NEW FAVORITE THING!

Polar bear shifters can commit of course, only... mostly just for a few years.
Penguin shifters commit for a lifetime. If they find their mate it’s for a lifetime.

Lewis and Todd are friends from when they were seventeen. Now in their twenties, they have heavy feelings for each other. The difficulty is how to convince both their communities besides all their differences, they are made for each other.

“Apparently, I have a million nerve endings on every inch of my body

Yah I’m a big fan of shifter and mpreg shifter stories and this one didn’t disappoint! It was so enjoyable!

It was original and emotional just how I like it, their possessiveness was awesome!
Very engaging way of writing, smoothly flowing sentences and all at a steady pace.
I love their shifter worlds, their habits, their rituals immensely.
The author did a wonderful job, humor, earnest, sexiness, friendship and deep-rooted love all combined in one delicious story full with only awesomeness!

Ps Can’t wait for the free short story, what a great perspective!
