With Chicago winters in the rearview mirror, Chloe Jackson is making good on a promise: help her late friend’s grandmother run the Sea Glass Saloon in the Florida Panhandle. To Chloe’s surprise, feisty Vivi Slidell isn’t the frail retiree Chloe expects. Nor is Emerald Cove. It’s less a sleepy fishing village than a panhandle hotspot overrun with land developers and tourists. But it’s a Sea Glass regular who’s mysteriously crossed the cranky Vivi. When their bitter argument comes to a head and he’s found dead behind the bar, guess who’s the number one suspect?
Ìý
In trying to clear Vivi’s name, Chloe discovers the old woman isn’t the only one in Emerald Cove with secrets. Under the laidback attitude, sparkling white beaches, and small town ways something terrible is brewing. And the sure way a killer can keep those secrets bottled up is to finish off one murder with a double shot: aimed at Chloe and Vivi.

In this first installment in Sherry Harris's Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series, Chicago children's librarian Chloe Jackson has temporarily moved to Emerald Cove, Florida, to help her best friend Boone's grandmother, Vivi, run her business after his death in Afghanistan. Vivi is not the frail old lady Chloe had been picturing in her mind. She's attractive, feisty, and independent and wants nothing to do with Chloe. When a bar patron is found dead behind the bar, all signs point to Vivi being the killer. Chloe doesn't think that she is guilty and decides to do her own investigation, but soon becomes the killer's next target.

I thought this was a charming and entertaining read. I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, the plot, and the setting. The author's rich descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning and made me feel like I was right there on the beach, and I could practically feel the sun on my skin and hear the gentle roar of the ocean waves and smell the salty air. Chloe was a very enjoyable character. She was smart, caring, down to earth, and strong. I felt an instant connection to her and was rooting for her. I can't wait to see what's in store for her and how her relationship with the other characters develop in the upcoming books, particularly with Vivi, Joaquin, Ann, and Rhett. The mystery was well-crafted, with plenty of twists and red herrings to keep you engaged and guessing until the exciting reveal.
Overall, I absolutely loved this book and eagerly await the second book. This is a delightful cozy mystery, with a touch of humor, an intriguing and enjoyable cast of characters, and a gorgeous setting.

FROM BEER TO ETERNITY by Sherry Harris is the first book in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon cozy mystery series. I am a fan of this author’s Sara Winston Garage Sale cozy mystery series so I was excited to see she had another series starting. The story is largely set in a small town on the Florida Panhandle between Panama City and Pensacola.

Chloe Jackson had promised her late friend that she would help his grandmother if something happened to him. Therefore, she packs a few of her things, heads from Chicago to Florida and gets a job at the bar owned by Bonne’s grandmother, Vivi. What could possibly go wrong in this beautiful location?

Chloe is definitely a protagonist that you can root for and she had good depth for a first book in a series. The internal and external conflicts were well defined and believable. There was enough at stake to keep me turning the pages. The pacing allowed for the scenes to progress and flow with effective transitions. As always, this author did a great job of world-building. I got a clear sense of the town and the area around it as well as the people. While the reveal of the antagonist was not a complete surprise, there were plenty of twists and turns to get there.

Overall, this was a well-done mystery that was engaging, entertaining and a great start to a new series. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. If you enjoy well-done cozy mysteries, then this is an author that I recommend.

I won a digital copy of this book in a Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ Giveaway. Thanks go to Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ, Kensington Books and Sherry Harris for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

From Beer to Eternity by Sherry Harris is the first book in the new cozy Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series. As with most cozy mysteries each book in this series will feature it’s own mystery that is fully solved within the book leaving each to be able to be enjoyed on their own. There will be character development that carries over from book to book however for those that enjoy the entire series from the beginning.

Chloe Jackson is a children’s libraian from Chicago who made a promise to her best friend when he enlisted in the military. If anything were to happen to him Chloe promised to head to Emerald Cove in the Florida Panhandle to see to it that his grandmother would be OK after his passing. What Chloe didn’t expect was the feisty Vivi Slidell who runs the Sea Glass Saloon. Being far from the elderly grandma Chloe thought she’d find she isn’t sure of staying on but a promise is a promise.

After the funeral Chloe came up with the small white lie that she was having car problems and needed to wait for a part to come in before she could head home. With this excuse Chloe managed to get Vivi to give her a job at the Sea Glass Saloon where she could keep an eye on Vivi. Unfortunately for Chloe one morning she stumbles upon the body of a patron out behind the bar, and not just any patron, one that Vivi had words with the night before making her suspect #1 leaving Chloe no choice but to investigate.

From Beer to Eternity was a lovely opener for this new quirky cozy series set in a wonderful location. The main character was actually rather likable and her personality fit that of an out of place libraian. They mystery in this opener was also a solid one to follow with Chloe not getting too far out of her element and remaining believable in her tasks. I’ll look forward to seeing what this series will bring to the readers in future installments.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Chloe Jackson was devastated by Boone’s death; his wish that she stay for awhile with his grandmother, Vivi, in Emerald Cove and help with the running of Sea Glass, the bar which Vivi owned was an easy one to grant. Chloe was a librarian back in Chicago, but a leave of absence meant she was free to work with Vivi and Joaquin in the bar. She wasn’t exactly sure why Boone had wanted her presence, but she had promised him, so it was easy to fulfil.

When Chloe found a dead body around the back of Sea Glass early one morning, she recalled the argument the previous evening between Vivi and the victim. And when the police took Vivi in for questioning, Chloe wasn’t surprised, but knew she needed to find the killer to prove Vivi’s innocence. But Chloe’s questions to various people; her attendance at the many bars amid questions, stirred someone up. Secrets were obviously being kept - were Chloe and Vivi next in the firing line for the killer?

From Beer to Eternity is the 1st in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series by Sherry Harris and I quite enjoyed it. Light, entertaining, plenty of twisty bits a nice start to a new cozy series, and also a new author to me. Thanks to a goodreads friend for the recommendation I will pass that recommendation forward 😊

With thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

This was an ok read. It needed more cozy all around. Chloe needs some good quirky secondary characters. Although I did like her friendship with Joaquin. The other quirky character I was becoming fond of...turned out to be the victim. Vivi was on the cusp of being mean...I like spitfires, and even humorous grouchy characters, but not mean in my cozies.
The scenery was amazing and spot on as I live in Florida myself. The mystery was engaging, and I was guessing up till the end.
I will be checking out the second book to see where this series goes!

When Chloe Jackson promised her friend Boone she would help his grandmother, Vivi, if something happened to him, she never expected she’s have to follow through. But after his untimely death, she heads to Emerald Cove, Florida, to help her with her beach side bar. Things get complicated when Chloe finds one of the regulars dead behind the bar one morning. With the police looking at Vivi as a suspect, Chloe has to figure out what really happened. Can she do it?

Picking up this book, I was immediately transported to the beach, a place I love. The setting was fantastic, and I would love to visit in person. The mystery was a little slow to get going as we were introduced to the characters and setting, but once it did, I was fully engaged. There were plenty of twists along the way. The climax was a bit rushed, but it still answered all of my questions. There are several times where Chloe seemed to have more time in her day than normal, and one chapter with a wonky timeline, but none of this impacted the plot in a meaningful way. Chloe had been working as a children’s librarian before this story started, so I loved the occasional references to children’s books. She leads a group of fantastic characters, some of whom already feel like friends. I will definitely be back for the next round.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book.

I could practically taste the tang of salt air and feel a cool ocean breeze off the coast of Florida as I sipped a frozen daiquiri served to me by waitress Chloe Jackson at the Sea Glass beach bar. Quirky bar patrons, each absorbed with their own problems—some leaders, some followers—have recently become a part of Chloe’s daily routine. Happening across the corpse of a regular customer is a shock! Vivi Jo Slidell, owner of the Sea Glass Saloon and part of the local Heritage business group, is hard to get to know and doesn’t know the real reason Courtney is there and why she sought work at her bar. So....the Mystery-solving begins.

This new cozy series is my favorite of 2020! The tiki bar workers are great! The detailed scenes are refreshing, and the plot is original. Beach settings are always a favorite of mine. As truths are revealed, emotions thaw, and the author sets up a grand ending. A fabulous new series to add to my auto-buy list!

I honestly reviewed a digital arc provided by NetGalley and Kensington. Thank you.

This was a really fun read for me, especially since I live on the Emerald Coast of the Panhandle of Florida where this story takes place and. "Emerald Cove," a tourist town, is home to a small community of shops and businesses right next door to Destin and is fifty miles from Pensacola to the west and fifty miles from Panama City to the east. Chloe Jackson lives and works in Chicago but is on leave in Emerald Cove because her best friend from college, Boone, asked her to go help his grandmother Vivi run her bar if anything happened to him in Afghanistan. She stayed after Boone's memorial service to work at the Sea Glass Saloon for a few weeks. Vivi really doesn't want Chloe around but that's too bad because she promised Boone. Things get more stressful when another business owner is found dead behind the Sea Glass and the Sheriff's office thinks that Vivi is responsible. Chloe decides to do some sleuthing on her own and puts herself in the thick of things and brings danger to her doorstep.
The setting is great where the beaches are sugar white sands and emerald colored waters. The author did a great job describing the area, not just the actual physical description but the sense of patriotism where we have three Air Force bases with Eglin and Hurlburt Field between Fort Walton and Pensacola and Tyndall in Panama City where we like to hear the "sound of freedom" as the military planes fly over, not to mention a couple of Navy bases in the area. The Red Bar is a great place to eat with a unique atmosphere and just reopened after a fire. There is a cast of realistic, likable characters with small town closeness as well as some shady characters, small town politics, and secretive activities. The mystery kept me guessing because so many different people were suspect and I was surprised with how it turned out. I am looking forward to reading the next book and hoping to see another great mystery and maybe a little romance.
I received a complimentary copy from Kensington Books through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

Chloe set off for Emerald Coast Floriida on a mission. To help her best friend's Boone grandma Vivi. Vivi had a bar Sea Glass. It was a secret that Chole was keeping that Boone asked Chloe to help Vivi. Jaquin was the bartender there and Chloe and him were becoming friends. Vick seemed not to like Chloe. Chloe ( she was a Liberian in Chicago) really did not know how to mix drinks but she was starting to learn from Jaquin . One of the regular customers was soon found dead with a knife in him. There are some shady people but who really killed him and why. I actually liked this book because it had where I live in Florida Destin, Pensacola, and Fort Walton. I have been to all the these city's They even talk about Crab Island that is around 1hour where I live in Crestview Florida. Crab Island is a hot spot here. I will be reading these books

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I am so excited about Sherry Harris’s new series. Don’t worry, there is a new Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery coming in December.

In From Beer to Eternity, we meet Chloe Jackson, a children’s librarian in Chicago who has taken a leave of absence to fulfill a promise she made to her best friend Boone who was killed in Afghanistan. She promised that if anything happened to him to go help his grandmother in the Florida Panhandle with her business, the Sea Glass Saloon. Short on details, Chloe uses a few white lies to get Vivi Slidell to hire her as a cocktail waitress so she can find out just what help this seemingly very competent woman may need. Chloe never expected she would be working to keep the woman out of jail after one of her regulars is found dead behind the bar. Chloe soon finds that something is clearly brewing in the town of Emerald Cove and her questions could land both her and Vivi in the line of fire.

Ms. Harris has introduced some very strong characters in this story and fleshed them out nicely in this first book while leaving them plenty of room to grow in future installments. I loved that Chloe found common ground with the sometimes cranky young children she usually works with and the overindulging patrons at the Sea Glass Saloon. Handling both in the same way successfully. She is smart and can think on her feet. Dealing with Boone’s death is hard especially when she finds out his true feelings. Vivi is a strong, independent woman, and nothing like Chloe expected. She has run her business successfully for years. Bartender Joaquin befriends Chloe quickly and is a great buffer between Chloe and Vivi. These main characters are surrounded by a great supporting cast.

The setting for this series is positively divine. A place I would go to and probably never leave. As in her other series it is set near military bases, Elgin Air Force Base and the nearby Hurlburt Field and there are Navy bases nearby too. Her descriptions of the area were fantastic and created wonderful imagery. She took us to several places and I really felt like I was right there with her.

The mystery was well done, complex, and intriguing with plenty of suspects. I couldn’t really hone in on any person fully because they all seemed a bit shady with secrets or hiding something. The mystery reveal was a bit rushed for me although very exciting. I was on the edge of my seat.

As the book came to a close the ending wasn’t much of a surprise but this series is off to a fine start.

From Brew to Eternity feels like more than a cozy mystery. While it has all the cozy elements, amateur sleuth, small-town setting, humor in all the right places, etc. Chloe deals with the loss of Boone and that adds an extra serious element. I am eager to see where the author takes this series.

From Beer to Eternity by Sherry Harris is the first book in a new cozy series set in the Florida Panhandle. Ms. Harris is a "new to me" author and the setting of this mystery was also unknown to me. I found both to be an enjoyable reading experience for me.

Ms. Harris' writing is smoothly paced and her description of Emerald Cove made the different businesses and people come alive for me. I confess that I didn't connect with Chloe through the first few chapters; but as her character became more developed, I began to like her and appreciate her determination to help Vivi. Emerald Cove and it's small town tourist appeal is also a character in itself and I would love a visit to get to know the town better. The reveal was a total surprise and action packed as Chloe races to the rescue. I will be looking for the next book in the series as I want to know more about Vivi, Ann and Rhett.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

I adore Sherry Harris's Garage Sale series so I was super excited to find out she had a new series coming out. This one is just as great. Chloe is younger and not as together as Sarah but just as likeable. She takes a leave of absence from her job as a librarian in Chicago to spend what's supposed to be a few weeks in the Florida Panhandle after her childhood best friend dies working at his family bar. Before he passed, he asked her that if anything happened to him, to make sure his grandmother is okay.

And when his grandmother, who isn't the stereotypical sweet gram who spends all day baking cookies, is a suspect in a murder outside her bar, Chloe takes her promise seriously.

There's a great love interest, a layered backstory, interesting reveals and some hysterical laugh out loud lines.

Definitely check it out if you love cozies and want a beach read...set on a beach.

As a fan of Ms. Harris' Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mysteries, I was excited to see that she has started a new series based in Florida. From Beer to Eternity is the first book in the Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series, and Ms. Harris has hit the ground running. This book is everything fans have come to expect from this author. Chloe is a wonderful main character. She is inquisitive and caring. Having lost her best friend Boone, she makes her way to Florida to take care of his grandmother Vivi; only Vivi doesn't really want her there. I loved watching these two dance around each other as independent women, connected by their love for Boone. Chloe and Vivi are accompanied by a great cast of secondary characters that are diverse, quirky, and fun - especially Joaquin and Rhett.

The mystery is well done, as readers have come to expect from Ms. Harris. It is complex and engaging. Because of where the victim is found and his history with Vivi, she becomes the chief suspect. Of course, Chloe jumps into sleuth mode and starts to ask questions to see who else could have committed this murder. The author provides us, as readers, with many viable suspects and moments where we hold our breath as Chloe finds herself in jeopardy resulting from some of the questions she asks. I was completely surprised by the identity of the killer (although that is not unusual). This person was not on my radar at all and is revealed in a climactic fashion.

Ms. Harris has created a new series that her fans are going to love. Her writing is smooth, the plot is engaging, the mystery is well crafted and the characters are entertaining and enjoyable. I am certainly looking forward to more to come in this series and will definitely be back for more.

I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy, provided to me by the publisher, Kensington, through Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own we were not influenced by the receipt of an ARC.

A new series from Sherry Harris has readers jumping for joy. From Beer to Eternity, the first book in the "A Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery" saloon series, is a true wonder. Chloe would not be anyone's idea of a hero, but she steps in when her best friend, Boone, dies while in the military to help and protect his grandmother, Vivi. However, Vivi is unlike any grandmother Chole has ever known or expected. She is feisty, smart, and puts up with no-nonsense from anyone.

The characters in this new series are already well-rounded, with distinct personalities and weaknesses. They ooze charisma and diversity. From Chloe herself to Joaquin, the bartender, to what is hoped to be Chloe's love interest Rhett, these characters will keep readers enthralled. The setting of a saloon, which isn't a saloon as she imagined it would be but a beach side bar, has a charm all its own. Readers will yearn to sit on a beach and sip a cocktail while people watching.

The murder victim is found behind Vivi's saloon, and none other than Chloe and Rhett find the body. It doesn't take long for Chloe to suspect Vivi may have had a hand in the man's death, or fo the police to think the same. She feels it is up to her to clear Vivi of the suspicion as quickly as she can while keeping her promise to Boone before returning to her home of Chicago. Not that she has a home to return too. The suspects all have sensational motives, but only one of them is a killer. After a hair-raising chase and heroic action by Chloe, the killer is exposed.

From Beer to Eternity is a spectacular beginning for what will be a remarkable series. Readers expect nothing less from Ms. Harris, and she delivers. I can't wait to read more of Chloe's adventures and learn more about Vivi and her saloon, not to mention Rhett and Joaquin's stories. I am overjoyed to recommend this book to readers who want a great read with memorable characters and a setting that will leave them breathless.

This first-in-a-series by seasoned author Sherry Harris was a refreshing trip to the beach, the bar, and a beguiling set of characters who intrigue. You'll want to crack open a cold Pilsner or pour a hoppy IPA as you settle into read her story set in fictional Emerald Cove in the Florida panhandle. I laughed, wept, and was on the edge of my seat as I read - all the marks of a great mystery. Highly recommend!

Pretty good start to this series. I think I had higher hopes for it because I love the Sarah Winston series. It wasn't as good, but the characters are likeable enough to create a long series with. I liked Chloe and Rhett's chemistry. Vivi was a fun character as were the other townies. I like how they all work together with stuff. I do look forward to reading about this town again!

There is so much to like about this book, I'm not sure where to start. I guess I'll start with the main character. Chloe is such an interesting and likeable character. She is witty - love the euphemisms. Her devotion to Boone was very touching and sincere. And I admired her determination to get to the truth behind the murder, no matter what. And the part about her misunderstanding as to what "handywoman" Ann's job was really about was hilarious! I found Rhett to be an intriguing character. And am looking forward to finding out more about him in the future. I enjoyed reading about the Emerald Coast of Florida and about all the different drinks that were made in the saloon. Didn't much care for Vivi through most of the book, but towards the end I found myself understanding here a bit more and warming up to her. Great murder mystery that had me guessing who the guilty party was right up to the end. Looking forward to reading book #2!

Chloe Jackson has temporarily moved to Emerald Cove Florida after the death of her best friend Boone. She had promised to help his grandmother Vivi run her business if anything ever happened to Boone. But it turns out that Vivi owns and runs a bar and is no one's idea of a frail little grandma. When a patron is murdered behind the bar, Vivi is the number one suspect and Chloe keeps her promise to Boone by trying to find the real culprit and clear Vivi's name. The plot is solid and there are plenty of suspects, along with quite a few quirky characters. Chloe is very smart and likable. There is a potential romance brewing with a charming guy named Rhett. I really enjoyed this and am going to jump right into the next one.

is the first book I’ve read by author . It won’t be the last! This is about a promise Chloe made to her best friend Boone before he left for a tour of duty to the Middle East, the grandmother he loved and the Gulf coast bar that was in is family for generations. I loved the images the writer could conjure up of a beach town paradise with a little bit of murder. I found the main character, Chloe Jackson to be likable and believable. Joaquin, the bartender at the Sea Glass Saloon is a good character, too. The kind of guy you’d want to have as a friend. I thoroughly enjoy this story!

The first book in Sherry Harris’s new series, Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mysteries, isn’t even out and I am anxious to read the next one! From Beer to Eternity isn’t quite what I expected from the title, but it gave me everything I want and expect from a book by Ms. Harris. I loved it!

The well-plotted murder is as complex as any in that field that falls between cozy and traditional amateur detective mysteries. Chloe handles most of her investigation intelligently although there was one time I wanted to grab her and tell her, NO, but her judgement worked out, so I forgive her this time. Hitting that balance with an amateur investigating murder has to be difficult but Ms. Harris has done an outstanding job of allowing her protagonists to use their brains as they walk a dangerous line.
Since From Beer to Eternity is the first book in a series, I first missed the sense of comradery and community that I enjoy so much with the Garage Sale Mysteries, but Chloe’s connection with the people around her develops throughout the novel and I foresee strong ties in the future. A future I will be following avidly. I first discovered Sherry Harris through her Garage Sale Mysteries and from that first book, everything she writes has become a must-buy.
Chloe made a promise that she never expected to have to keep, but it led her to take leave from her job as a children’s librarian in Chicago and spend time in the Florida panhandle. Her decision not to share her reason for staying left her in a bit of an awkward position, but she dug in and got a job at a bar owned by a late friend’s grandmother. That lady Is NOT her idea of a grandmother who needs help, but it turns out that there is a lot for Chloe to do when the woman comes under suspicion for murder.
There are many characters that I liked but the two that I loved are Joaquin and Michael. They seem to be Chloe’s version of the D’Angelos. For those of you who are new to Sherry Harris, the D’Angelo family is a reference to special people in her other outstanding series.
As a serious Sherry Harris fan, I requested an ARC of From Beer to Eternity although I had already pre-ordered a personal copy. Who wants to wait when something great is around the corner. My friends and followers will be hearing me shout about this just-right mystery as they have heard all about her other books.

From Beer to Eternity by Sherry Harris has Chloe Jackson, a children’s librarian, visiting Emerald Cove, Florida for the funeral of her friend, Boone Slidell. Chloe promised Boone that if something happened to him, she would help his grandmother. The caveat is that she cannot tell Vivi, Boone’s grandmother, of his request. Vivi is not what Chloe expected. She is a stubborn, feisty, well-dressed woman in her seventies who has taken a dislike to Chloe. In order to stay, Chloe told Vivi that her car broke down and she needs to earn money for the repairs. Vivi reluctantly gave Chloe a job at her beach bar, the Sea Glass Saloon. One morning, Chloe discovers Elwell Pugh, a bar regular, dead behind the bar’s dumpster. Evidence points to Vivi as the killer. Chloe begins asking questions to learn who else could have wanted Elwell dead. The killer is not happy with Chloe’s nosy nature and sets out to eliminate her. From Beer to Eternity is the debut of A Chloe Jackson, Sea Glass Saloon Mystery series. I found From Beer to Eternity easy to read with steady pacing. Chloe Jackson lives in Chicago, Illinois where she is a children’s librarian. She has taken a leave of absence so she can keep her promise to Boone. I like that the author took the time to establish Chloe’s character as well as Vivi, Joaquin Diaz, and Rhett Barnett. I can tell Sherry Harris is familiar with the Florida panhandle from her descriptions of the town, bars, restaurants, and tourist attractions. I liked the number and variety of attractions that Chloe visited. I enjoyed the book references especially the Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind. The mystery was thought out with multiple suspects. Chloe begins asking questions around town and eavesdropping so she can clear Vivi off the suspect list. Of course, the killer is not happy with Chloe’s sleuthing. I liked the unique murder weapon and the various nefarious activities. I was disappointed that the resolution was not concrete. I like the resolution to be based on fast instead of supposition. I would have preferred fewer references to Rhett’s looks and Chloe’s hormonal reactions. I enjoyed the humor scattered throughout the story. This cozy mystery will have you longing for the beach where you can relax with a good book and a cool drink. From Beer to Eternity is an engaging cozy mystery that will delight fans of Sherry Harris A Sarah Winston Garage Sale Mystery series. From Beer to Eternity is a fun cozy mystery with stentorian snoring, the redneck riviera, flaming fires, deficient drinks, a horrid hat, and a bookish barmaid.

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Harris has another hit on her hands! We meet Chloe, a children's librarian from Chicago on leave. Her BFF passed away and she had promised to help his grandma if that ever happened. So to keep that promise she heads to Florida to start working on grandmas bar. This would be easier if Vivi wanted help and she had somewhere to stay. Instead she is sleeping in her car determined to win the old lady over. This gets hard when a regular customer is found murdered and Vivi is the main suspect. Chloe wants to clear her name so she starts asking questions which leads to all sorts of interactions leading to a surprising ending. A well written introduction to life in a seaside town full of eclectic characters. The mystery keeps you guessing while being entertained at the same time. Cozy readers are sure to enjoy this new adventure. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.

This is the first book in the Sea Glass Saloon mystery series. Chloe Jackson has come to the Florida panhandle from Chicago to keep a promise to a friend. Chloe has come to "help" the owner of the Sea Glass Saloon after her grandson dies. The catch is that Chloe is doing this secretly. After the murder of a prominent and eccentric resident of Emerald Cove, Chloe decides that she needs to clear Vivi's name. Chloe not so subtly questions long time business owners. When Chloe becomes a target, she begins to look at everything in a new light.

This book had a good mystery and introduces an interesting cast of characters. Chloe is very adventurous, but not as mentally quick as I would expect a 28 year old. Her misunderstandings get old after a while. Of the supporting characters, I enjoyed Joaquim and Michael the most. I figured out a lot of the mystery ahead of Chloe and discovered the mastermind when she did.

I listened to the audio and found the narrator, Nancy Wu, lacking. Her over the top fake southern accents were annoying.

Chloe Jackson travels to the small Florida Gulf Coast town of Emerald Cove to fulfill a promise made to her late best friend. Boone was killed in action and she had promised to help his grandmother Vivi run her beach bar, the Sea Glass Saloon. Almost immediately after Chloe's arrival, a long-time local is murdered right behind the bar and Vivi becomes the prime suspect. After Boone's will is read, Chloe and Vivi's relationship becomes entangled, providing her more reason to help exonerate Vivi and solve the crime.

This debut book is a great start to this series set in area known for its quiet beaches and quaint small towns, outside the party atmosphere of Panama City and I was fortunate to have spent some quality time there. The author paints a detailed setting and I feel like I'm back there enjoying the beach and foods. Chloe is a strong character, loyal to Boone, but now struggling with the loss of him as well as memories of a traumatic childhood event. She's brave, resourceful and stubborn--qualities also shared by Vivi. The reading pace was comfortable and the number of characters was easily manageable. Her friendship with co-worker Joaquin provided a realistic insight into local, tight-knit community who are naturally suspicious of the Northern newcomer. The book also reflects the tensions many beach communities face between long-time residents and newer ones regarding development and how much is too much. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thanks to NetGalley and Kensington for a copy of this book. My review is voluntary.

Kobo edition, NOT Kindle. Well, now I have another favourite series! Love Sherry Harris's Garage sale series and this series didn't disappoint! Love the beach setting. Love all the characters.

Chloe Jackson went to Florida for the funeral of her best friend Boone, who was killed in Afghanistan. He made her promise if anything happened to him that she would stay and help his grandmother Vivi run her bar, the Sea Glass Saloon. But Chloe finds out that Vivi is perfectly capable of running the bar on her own, yet her promise to Boone is important, so with her leave of absence from her job in Chicago, she makes up an excuse to get a job at the Saloon, and is now their waitress. It's also apparent that Vivi doesn't really care for Chloe and doesn't trust her; but at the urging of the bartender Joaquin she allows her to stay.

At first, Chloe's been sleeping in her car but now while spending the night on Boone's boat, she's discovered by a local named Rhett, who promises to keep her secret. The next morning, while running on the beach, Chloe discovers the body of a local man who's been murdered. With Vivi as the main suspect, she knows the woman didn't do it and wants to find the killer.

But there's more in store for Chloe, and she's in for a big surprise of her own, along with surprises from the locals that keep her on her toes...and running from a killer...

This is the first book in a new series, and I must say that in the beginning I almost put it down and walked away. It began that slowly, and I didn't get the fact that she'd been sleeping in her car for days yet went to work and no one noticed the 'human scent' that must have been there, and I began wondering where she was changing her clothes and showering. But I continued on, and then the story line began to grab me, and I kept reading to the end (as I've said often, I pay attention to details, and these are details that bothered me).

After I started to get into the story, I enjoyed it quite a bit. You have a twenty-eight year old woman from Chicago who's found herself in strange waters in Florida, trying to fulfill the wish of her deceased best friend without his grandmother knowing about it. I do like Chloe quite a bit, even if she does take risks she shouldn't, but not so many of them that I'd call her stupid.

Vivi is another story. I don't get why she's cranky at all: she has a thriving business and plenty of money, so she pretty much has the freedom to live the way she wants. What's to be cranky about? You'd think she'd have a nicer personality, but I guess we'll see in future books if she's warmed up at all as a person.

Watching Chloe try to figure out who killed the man brings her in contact with many of the locals, and they're starting to warm up to Chloe while spilling their own pasts to help her in her quest to help Vivi. It seems everyone likes the woman and no one believes she's guilty. When the stakes are raised and Chloe becomes a target of the killer, she knows she must be getting closer to the truth. When it finally dawns on her who the killer must be, she ignore the danger to herself to help the woman.

It's an interesting climax and I do like how the story played out. I enjoyed this one so much that I look forward to the next in the series. Recommended.

I received an advance copy from the publisher and NetGalley but this in no way influenced my review.
