This isn't a regular book in the Noragami series but a side shoot called "Stray Stories" and it remains unclear whether there will be another volume, or not. To read the book chronologically it would be placed between volumes 8 and 9. I'm much further along in the series and some of the characters have changed since they appear here but not so much that the situations and humour found here is a fun break from the ongoing series. This is a collection of short stories most feature Yato but each also focuses on a different character. We learn information about things that don't really come up in the telling of the main series such as: how shinki find their jobs, the gods get yearly employee satisfaction/non-satisfied surveys every year and Yato has a few cases to solve. Not as good as the series proper but a perfectly fun diversion for fans!
I only recently discovered that Kodansha has taken on the daunting task of translating Noragami into English. This volume was an entertaining addition to the saga, though I do wish that it might've been a bit longer.
My friend got me this for Christmas and I don't know what's going on. I think it's because there's an entire manga series of with a main plot and this manga is just a bunch of for-fun stories. I gave it a 3 stars because I don't know what else to rate it.
These short stories are fine, but nothing that can hold my interest. Or much of my memory as it turns out. I dimly remember images and some story elements and plot points, something about a goddess of misfortune and some complaint mail by serving gods and all, but that is about it.
1 - A Story if a Fallen Man Pretty funny, and of course it turned out to be
2 - A Story of Exploring the Mind of a Shinki Loved it- Yukines loyalty despite Yato being difficult is so sweet ??
3 - A Story of Mutual Deception Facepalm ???? how does Yato get up to this kind of stuff?
4 - A Story of Doing Business by Whatever Means Necessary Oh no I wasnt a fan of this, had me facepalming again ????- just why though?
5 - A Story of the Other Side of the Screen A bit random, but hey?
6 - A Story of Conforming to Temporary Stereotypes Absolutely hilarious! It really was very typical of the characters ?
7 - A Story of a Nameless God Making His Way Up in the World Oh no Yatos up to it again ????
Loved the additional sketches at the end.
I enjoyed some of these stories a lot, with the second one being my favourite, though I wasnt really a fan of the whole thing. The over-sexualisation was frustrating at times too, but I guess these where diversions from the story for a reason. Ill probably stick to the main story in the future.
Given how serious and dark the main series has gotten, this was a nice diversion with lots of nostalgia for how the series started. I'd forgotten how hard I laughed the first few times Yato and Bishamon interacted, and it's a refreshing break to read this now amidst all the Crafter and Yukine stuff going on. If I had read this way back when...I probably would have rated it a bit lower since it would've been more of the same comedy without much substance, so waiting worked in its favor. ;) So a cute collection and a good addition for a fan of the series.
I didnt realize when I started this manga that its not part of the actual series (and is actually a diversion manga). Even though Id read the first three volumes a few years ago and had mostly forgotten it.
The stories are fun to read and mostly slice of life. They add some more color to the characters and backstories and are generally low stakes. In an anime this would be usually part of filler content. Still, they were fun to read and I mostly enjoyed them.
Always love coming back to this manga series. I love seeing all the extra art the authors and artists share with us! It's always a nice change to see from the seriousness the original series can bring with it.
My heart needed it. Since the current storyline is a heart-wrenching one, it's good to laugh at Yato and the gang a little. If you have seen the anime and the OVAs, you'll know the stories but they are still enjoyable.
My second time reading. This volume is very cute and has some very funny short stories, took me just over an hour to complete. My favourite was Exploring they kind of a Shinki - Yukine is the best boy ??
Really good book by an amazing author! Really good start to the series. The characters are fun and well created with a lot of personality. I highly recommend this book to manga fans.
These super fun short stories were almost all part of the anime, minus the one with the online god Keke and Yato applying to be one of the seven gods of fortune.

Yusuke tries to commit suicide after his company goes bankrupt and Kofuku won't return his love. Yato gets a crazed stalker who tries to kill him and write about it in his murder mystery book.

The usual cheeky Noragami humor, it's ridiculously fun to read if you're a fan of the series and have no problem reading absurd side stories. I laughed more than I should.
