"They’re here to learn about my mistakes as well as my successes.
In fact, it may be more important for them to learn about my mistakes."
Once Solved by Blake Pierce.
Well well well. This was a short read..no..make that a tiny read..but it was SO good. I really did not think that it would be because of the short length.
Now I want to read all the Riley books...and I'm not even a series person!
She kind of reminds me of Olivia Benson from Law and Order SVU. I give the writer credit for getting that much character development done in such few pages. I really do.
I am going to read other Riley books. I loved this!
4 Stars for Once Solved: Riley Paige Short Story, Book 0.5 (audiobook) by Blake Pierce read by Elaine Wise.
This is a interesting start to the series. It looks like the main character is teaching FBI recruits how to catch serial killers. But Riley Paige is going to have to deal with all of her past trauma to be able to pass on all of her expertise to the next generation.
A short story about Riley Paige, a detective with a haunting past !
I never knew about this author before, but found this one in Kindle for free. So thought to give it a try. So apparently she is a author of the series with the detective as a protagonist.
And this short story/companion story feels like a teaser to indulge the reader to read the series. It doesn't actually have much content in it. Just like a teaser is supposed to be.
I really didn't care about the character and her past much because it felt too predictable. Even the narration (I listened to the audiobook on Scribd) was bland and felt pretentious.
In this shortest of short stories, our indomitable Riley Paige faces a class of agents in training as they ask her deeply personal questions. She recalls a harrowing scene from early on in the series.
I am a tremendous fan of the Riley Paige series but find that I care little for the prequels and short stories.
This story is free on Audiobooks. I did not care for the narration at all but am always glad to have a free book! The first book of another one of his series, "Left to Die," Adele Sharp Book 1, is also free on Audiobooks.
Just a short, quick in between Riley Paige story. Riley is coping with severe PTSD, and is now instructing instead of working in the field. This short story is Riley's cross roads.
Riley is training new agent students—NATs, they were called. She is teaching them and telling them what it was like to be an FBI Agent in the Behavioral Analysis Unit. When she was asked a question about her time in the field the question triggered a memory from her past when she herself was held captive by the killer. She’s here to share her mistakes for the incoming agents so they wouldn’t make the same mistakes.
Narrator: Elaine Wise is a UK voice artist. She brought her British voice to Once Solved. I really enjoy listening to her performance. While her British voice is stunning to listen to it isn’t necessary to the story. Riley’s character works for the FBI which is located in the US.
Overall: It’s 21 minutes of 2 chapters listening to Riley train new agents. It is what it is. Could’ve be included in anyone of the other books. This didn’t need to be a separate short story. Could’ve been a prequel or a epilogue. Either way it’s a few extra scenes into Riley Paige’s character.
Just a lead-in to the next book. Riley is teaching a class at the BAU for want to be FBI agents. During her discussion she realizes that she is not through with her work, and she still has many years until she is forced to retire!
This was a free audio in iBooks. Sounded like it would be a good series to start at some point. This was a short story introduction to the series featuring Riley Paige. I don’t really care for it and won’t be reading the series.
When I chanced upon , the of of and many other crime thrillers, I did not imagine I will start liking his writing. In this short story, a teaser to his first book in the Riley Paige series, , veteran FBI Special Agent Riley Paige, one of the FBI’s most brilliant and decorated agents, has devoted her life to hunting down serial killers. Suffering from PTSD, she now spends her time teaching other FBI agents, offering a window into the mind of serial killers. Battling her own demons, plagued by memories, she is ready to pass the baton and retire.
It sounds interesting, and I might read more of this Riley Paige.
I read this to see if I would be interested in reading the series. I definitely am. The opening was one that immediately demanded attention and interest. The fact that the opening was the truth at all made it even more intriguing. I find that stories involving the FBI’s BAU often capture my imagination, since I love abnormal psychology and criminal justice. I loved the line, “in fact, it might be more important for them to learn about my mistakes.. Definitely going to check out this series if I can. My list is getting a little too long so I don’t know when I’ll get to it but it’s on the list. It had one of my favorite quotes in it as well. People sometimes fail to realize how hard it is to prepare someone for a career in a field that shows you the worst of others. I’m not just talking about criminal justice either. Therapists, police, search and rescue, fire fighters, pretty much any first responder. I like how this short story brought this up.

This was an excellent start to the Riley Paige series! It gave you a little bit of story on Riley and gives you an understanding of where she's at in her life prior to the series beginning! I will definitely be interested to see where this series goes but this novella gave it great promise!
This really was a short story...I think only about 30 minutes long, but I think it got across the point that it wanted to get across and that's all that matters!
Elaine Wise narrated this short story, as well as at least the majority of the other stories in the series and does a great job! I think she's a great Riley Paige fit!
This is actually just a short chapter or more like an intro of the female protagonist. But i would agree it has been written beautifully. The idea of getting inside the thoughts and mind of the serial killer was pretty amazing, because i have always been a fan of psychological thriller stories where the main lead tries to understand and get hold of the killer's mind.
In Conclusion, This book is pretty much just an intro to the main lead. So its not really neccesary that you have to read it. The reason i read it was because i had to read something but couldn't find anything last night so decided to read it. It was good but not really useful or worthful.
I got the sample of the book 'Once solved'. I have a bad habit. If a book doesn't get me into it in the first 2 to 3 pages, very rarely I continue further. I should say this sample was amazing. Amazing sounds not enough to describe my feelings. The way the story is built from the beginning until the knowledge of the gift that Riley possesses and wanting to know what happens next or how this supernatural gift is portrayed. I want to read all the Riley series books and I hope the author maintains the same thrill throughout the books.
Very short, perhaps a chapter long at most, yet a great sneak glimpse of the amazing character, writing, and mystery that is to come in the upcoming book. I see this much like the preview clips when you go to the movies before a movies release or an ad you may see on TV for an upcoming show with only certain clips from scenes letting you get a feel for it to gage if you're interested enough to watch it even it comes on or go back to the theater and watch the movie when the movie is released.
I tried this short story to see how I felt about the series before diving into it.
Riley Page is teaching new recruits while she recovers from PTSD from her work catching serial killers. This short story captures the moment in class when she decides she needs to be back in the field doing the job she is so well suited for. I’m very eager to begin reading the Riley Page mysteries now that I read this.
Quick little intro into the new series I’m starting featuring Riley. If I’m honest it was too short to get a real feel for her and with it being set in the classroom I didn’t get a feel for her as an agent. Still I’m looking forward to starting a new series and have enjoyed Blake’s style of writing so far. 3 stars free download from Amazon.
