the wrong to a demon sect leader had such a promising start only to fizzle out during the last half. this danmei certainly isn’t super deep or heavy—on the contrary it basically gives you second hand embarrassment for all 80+ chapters. there was politics at play but the chapters were sooooo short that i really never felt boggled down by everything.
the premise of this danmei is pretty straightforward and the whole story doesn’t stray from that. what exactly happens when the ‘hero’ is tasked with ‘seducing’ the demon leader for plot related reasons? chaos. obviously. lots of shameless flirting that would make you cringe up. even though this was basically a netflix-esque wuxia romcom full of misunderstandings and cliches, there wasn’t…enough romance for me. we had little quotes and moments that made me excited the MC (zhao jiangui) & ML (ji han) were going to give me that ?scene? that pulled me in.
it never quite happened, at least not in the way i wanted it to but you know what? that’s fine!!! the wrong way to a demon sect leader was entertaining. i didn’t want an over complicated historical where i would struggle with a bunch of character and all the political scheming. i just wanted a bite sized wuxia romcom that was low stakes & silly.
if you don’t feel like investing a lot of time or emotions into something definitely check this out!!! zhao jiangui and ji han are my favorite dumbasses. they aren’t even enemies to lovers they are something way better (moronsexual4moronsexual)
This was a straight up comedy. Zhao Jiangui (MC) and Ji Han (ML) were two of the most powerful characters in the story but when it comes to matters of the heart, they're both equally dumb as heck and oblivious to each other's feelings. Their interactions and corny dialogues were too funny, especially in the beginning stage when they were beginning to know each other -- where ZJG was following the script in order to seduce JH.
Eventually, these two idiots figure out what they both mean to each other and have a happy ending. The side characters also aided in adding to the chaos that is ZJG and JH's relationship because they were constantly making them feel awkward and misunderstanding their intentions.
The novel was short so everything had to happen quickly, but I think it suited the tone of the story.
3.5/5 Snort-out-loud funny and quite wholesome and cute, but could have been more fully developed. The premise is deliberately silly: There’s a war between the Vast Alliance and the Demonic Creed, and a spy supposedly discovers that the new Creed Lord, Ji Han, is gay and has a crush on the Alliance’s champion, Zhao Jiangui. So, the Alliance begs Jiangui to go and seduce Ji Han and save his people. You'd think this all turning out to be a misunderstanding would put a damper on things - especially since Zhao is terrible at flirting, doesn't think he likes men, and is mainly going off a script book of cringy pickup lines - but Zhao is a Hero, and heroes never back down from a quest! Overall really fun, and may even contain some commentary on shipping culture, especially when applied to real people: The MCs are totally mortified to discover some of the other characters have been writing/reading spicy stories about them, when in reality the only thing they've established about their relationship is "we don't actually want to kill each other, and I'd prefer if no one else murdered you either"! However, some details of the world-building and some of the character descriptions could have used a little fleshing out.
The first half of the book is PURE COMEDY ,I love it , then all stops to start the serious business and the action . It has happy ending tho ?!
The story is about this number one swordsman that get the mission about faking to be in love with the new Demonic creed head so the alliance can found the secrets of the place and beat them. But all went WRONG WRONG from start!! Really, all the begining part is hilarious ?
“Zhao Jiangui thought for a minute. ‘None of the people downmountain look as good as you.’ ‘…’ ‘Even if they gave me ten trunks of gold, I would never run off.’ ‘…’ ‘I want only one persons heart, to never separate even in old age,’ he declared, with sudden adoration. ‘… Shut up’ And yet, [Ji Han] allowed his hand to be held like so. ‘And I’ve gotten him,’ Zhao Jiangui finished.”

I really thought my one word review of this book was going to be “insane” but then it got really quite sickeningly sweet and quite serious?? Like don’t get me wrong, the beginning was insane and very funny but it came to treat itself much more seriously than I thought it would and I actually really enjoyed it.
After the main arc (in the bonus chapters??) the action and plot definitely started to get more rushed and squished, but was still very enjoyable!! Honestly, just a good time and fast and short enough to be what I needed at the moment.
This book was pure gold. I haven't laughed reading a book in so long. Reminded me why I love reading. For those gems where you feel like you have entered world of theirs and you get to witeness scene from their lives. Couple was amazing, plot was fine, side characters were gold, from maids fangirling to Little Tree and awesome family that MC has. Two dorks meet, split one brain cell and share it, fall in love. Was gonna be 4 stars because in was too short but 1 star is for making me cry during egg scene and for MCs perfect, cringe-worthy seduction and perfect personality. My man has face of steel for saying some of those lines.
Although I love misunderstandings, it's hard to find good stories where they aren't annoying. This one is ridiculous, cute, and incredibly funny. And the most unexpected: short!!!!! I really wanted to read danmei novels again but all the ones I have pending are too long and halfway through I lose interest.
Not a perfect story, but a good romcom between two idiots.
Omg I loved it. A lovely light hearted and hilarious book about tricking your enemy through the arts of seduction (and obviously accidentally falling in love with them instead). Those cheesy one liners though... they had me WHEEZING.
It was a short and fun read, and one of the few books that have actually made me laugh out loud, but god the times I got second hand embarrassment from these two... Would 100% recommend to anyone though.
HELPPP this book is so funny zhao jiangui's pickup lines are the best. also the ending is *chef's kiss* finished it all in one go, and mtl'd the extras (which are basically a sequel at this point)
This is an extremely dumb book about two extremely dumb people. It's also a very fun book. The story it tells is unserious. It's light and funny and a nice read, but not much else. I picked this up because I was feeling depressed and wanted something that would make me smile, and this book was a good choice for that. It's not the smartest or funniest danmei, but it's earnest and enjoyable.
The story itself follows a himbo swordsman who is sent to seduce a tsundere demonic sect leader, and through a series of comedic misunderstandings, the two actually fall in love. It's very funny and pretty cute.
I liked the characters and enjoyed their interactions, though they aren't particularly well-written. Their personalities are clear, but no one in the story has a character that is in any way complex, and character development is nonexistent. However, for what the story is, that isn't much of an issue. This is just a very silly, light read. I would have probably liked it a lot more had the characters been more complex, but again, for what this is, what we were given is fine. The relationship between the two men itself is also pretty okay; the development felt organic to read, and their dynamic is decently compelling.
I also thought the humor was pretty good, though I don't know if I ever laughed out loud. The fact that a lot of the humor hinges on misunderstandings and miscommunication is also something I didn't mind, though that's normally something I hate. I found a lot of the stuff genuinely?funny, and the miscommunication only really began to bother me near the end, when it just became too much, because at that point, I expected these two grown men to be a little more mature and less emotionally stunted. But other than that, I didn't have an issue.
The only thing I really did have an issue with is the execution?of the plot. Most of the first half of the book is just the himbo trying to seduce the tsundere with his terrible guidebook, but around the fifty percent mark, some actual plot things start happening. However, these are wrapped up very quickly, with little depictions of the fighting involved or an actual emphasis on the stakes. It reads as if the author realized they should probably have added in some real plot, and so did so, but then tried to get through writing it as quickly as possible so they could get back to the good stuff. I do understand why there aren't lot of action scenes described, since this isn't really an action-based book, and it doesn't need a lot of fighting, but I do think that this still speaks to a larger trend of glossing over and not fully developing the more serious parts of the story. I would have preferred these parts to have been more fleshed out, and the transitions to the more comedic parts more smooth.
However, complaints aside, I did have fun reading this. It's light and silly and just a nice, fun time. I liked it.
I would like to read more comedic danmei like this in the future, though I think I'd prefer something more along the lines of Scum Villain, where the story and characters are a bit more complex and the humor is more satirical. So if anyone reading this review has any recommendations, please let me know...
Anyway, if you would like to read this novel, here is the link to the lovely, free English translation:?.
in general, it was a good story with the right elements, without romanticizing the r*pe, kidnap, mistreatment, and negligence. The love between the MC and ML was natural, with its ups and downs, like any relationship nowadays. Oh, and I loved that the author added a fujoshi in her story, which was nice and different from other Wuxia novels, in which women are pictured as mere cannon fodder who can't read the room and always pursue the gay men. That's the opposite of reality, women will be thrilled to make friends with gay men. Throughout the novel, you can sense that the author wants it to be a fresh, fluffy kind of story with simple narration and short paragraphs. I would highly recommend it to people who just finished some heavy novels such as 2ha, yuwu ...
However, I think if the writer invested in the relationship between Jin Beiguo and the Twin Elites, it would be more appreciated. To illustrate a beautiful, non-toxic polyamorous relationship, because in reality, we don't have those, besides , and that's sad.
The English Name of the novel is: ??? ????? ??? ?? ? ????? ???? ??????
A cute, fun read to get you out of your reading slump which also makes you laugh.
Now About The Story:
The MC was tasked to seduce the demon lord and infiltrate his heart?? Lol, sadly he's as dense as they come and takes help of various reading sources to try and seduce the demon lord with the corniest dialogues ever.
Don't let the low-rating fool you, I loved this story. Light, fluffy, and easy-reading, it was exactly what I needed after finishing Faraway Wanderers and Lord Seventh back to back.
(I read Chichi's translation for all three, do recommend)
I just desperately wish we got more in this universe. The side characters and dynamics were so compellingly sweet, but not very fleshed out since it's obviously such a short work. I'm yet to watch the drama either, but I definitely will be.
If you want something brainless and fun, this is the novel for you. Just don't go into it expecting anything world-shattering or thought-provoking.
LOVED IT. I read this in anticipation of "The Birth of the Drama King" and was extremely engrossed from the beginning. It's not a long read, but funny and heartwarming. I have watched the first episode of TBOTDK and it certainly is not 100% accurate thus far, but is also quite funny so I am not disappointed yet.
literally so funny and sweet and delightful!!!!! reading it gave me such a serotonin rush and i’ll definitely go back to it whenever i need a feel-good read <3 if i were being super stingy about ratings, as i'm wont to do, i guess this would technically be a 4.75 star; however, i do, in fact, have lil cartoon hearts flying around my head every time i think about this novel.
A fast paced and easy read! It's really cute because both of them have no idea what they're doing and it's filled with awkward situations.
Summary: The number one swordsman gets begged by the elders of the righteous sect to seduce the lord of the demon sect because their spy learned that the demon lord was gay and had the swordsman's picture hanging in his room.
I know this is a more comedic story. Even so, it didn't fully capitalize on the comedy as much as I would've loved to see it do. It reads effortlessly, is short and has an easy to follow plot, and therefore it could've been so much more than it is.
No need to be lengthy about this one, consider it a light read and it's fine. I just wished it would've remained that way, but at some points the joke book is put away and it reflects. The serious plot isn't bad, but it's also not deep or very consequential.
Though I will say, it's absolutely fantastic how a short novel like this manages to have more engaging side characters and dialogue than many other 'serious historical' danmei.
