I've become fond of the light novel subgenre where the heroine dies--often to execution because she's committed a crime--and revives as a younger version of herself, with all her memories intact. (There's a name for this subgenre, but I've only seen the term once and immediately forgot it.) Maybe she was passive in situations where she could have taken action, or fell into a pattern of behavior that eventually led to her committing the crime. In any case, its most appealing aspect is the hope of a second chance for the heroine, who through her own actions and decisions can save her own life and win her happy ending.*

* I assume. I haven't finished one of these yet! :D

I spoiled myself a bit on this one by looking at some reviews of the last volume. Not a big thing, since I got the answer to the question I was mildly curious about. Now that I've read close to halfway through the story, I'm a little surprised that Of course, this still leaves the question open of what might happen when Jie-un shows up.

I like the new characters that have been introduced when Tia joins the knights (not a spoiler, this is what she's been aiming for since v. 1). Sometimes I get the impression that secondary characters have lives or thoughts that don't center around our MC, so that's a plus. For example, Dillon and Lian, Aristia's fellow knights, were childhood friends, and their banter reflects their having long been comfortable with each other.

There are some political machinations going on, but as often happens in light novels, the plotting feels naive and it's difficult for me to take it seriously or even to pay much attention to it. Allen is involved in that aspect of the story, and is also privy to Aristia's secret. I can think of at least four people that's true of, so it's a stretch to call it a true secret at this point. At least a couple of them fully believe her and are in her corner.

Although I've twigged onto some of the tricks Ina is using for her backgrounds--the Monique country estate is very obviously based on a photograph with some smearing effects layered over it, for example--the coloring and effects do a great job of setting the mood, and a decent job of creating a sense of place (well, not everything can be City). Flowers and geometric shapes add a nice shoujo-manga vibe to several of the panels.

This is far too long for a lazy vacation review, so that's it for now. :)

Having a hard time rating this. I'm not going to update rating and review on 1st to 3rd volume on ŷ as I've read it till the end at one go. 330++ chapters. Now awaiting volume 5. 🤔

Phew!! Finally, its done. If people are expecting lots of dialogues, they can forget about it. Mostly are just monologues from 1st pov till u reach Chapter 286. This is where all those confusion stopped and we will get to read on few povs from other characters aside from Tia.

My emotion is definitely affected from Chapter 1 to 7 throughout the book. It sets a cloudy atmosphere throughout the book eventhough situations changed. I cant find happiness and laughter be it shiny day or whatsoever climate change. I simply can't. My mood was sombre throughout. Utterly pensive mood. Haiyah..I'm repeating myself.

All of these started from a misunderstanding between Tia and Rublis created by the Emperor unintentionally. To the Emperor, as a Monarch and Crown Prince, no affection must be displayed, upfront or privately. Ironically, he was affectionate towards Tia openly and extremely stern with his son, Rublis. Apart from the lack of love from his father, it turned out that he was not even the Empress son.

Because of these, it sets the life of 3 people in motions. All due to great misunderstanding, assumptions and insecurity. Ultimately, it led to Tia's execution. Being reborn, Tia's tried harder to redeem herself instead of being her usual cold self due to prepping herself in becoming an Empress (downgrade to concubine because of Rublis hatred) but affectionate privately to those she cares about. She is more responsive with those she cares about. Unknowing to her, Ji Eun was reborn too with her memory intact.

It began from chapter 8 onwards after Tia being reborn. She adamantly avoided the Crown Prince at all cost. However, Rublis was not Rublis back then. Honestly, I have a lot of confusion from reading this. Initially, I didn't understand his hostility towards Tia. Afterwards, I didn't perceived what changed him. And because of this, I disliked him from beginning to end. No redemption here. 🤣🤣🤣

Nonetheless, one thing that stands out is Jena family. I understand that they hated Tia and her family but I simply cannot relate why must it be to the extend of concocting murder. What shocked me is Mirva. I thought he was a pleasant character compared to Lars and Verita. I thought wrong.

Most unexpected is Ji Eun. Before I get to her pov, I hated her. Later, I realised that she was just a misunderstood character. I questions her motives. Transmigrated and reborn few times. I began to empathise with her only to certain extend as I felt that she didn't strive hard enough to understand the Imperial conduct and policy except to live a life comfortably. She expected gender and citizens equality. From Crown Prince pov, she seems to be a self absorbed person which I found to be true. She was having difficulty in accustoming herself to that period and chose to lead life the same way as she lives in modern era. She was just the same in modern era. Thus it cost her life multiple times.

While those 3 people struggled against their insecurities and regrets, someone was plotting treason. And the reason for Treason..why do they need reason to overturn a country?

On another note, no matter how loving Rublis was towards Tia, I found it to be utterly bland. No spices or magic in their romance. The salvation from my opinion is their children. Especially, Diana who brought sunshine to Allendis, Sein, Tia and Rublis. 🥰

This is one of my favorite webtoons. It's beautifully drawn, and the character development is incredible. Aristia is a joy to read about, and the evolution of the story from episode 1 to episode 145 is constantly entertaining, with humor, sadness, and every emotion in between. I absolutely loved reading this, and would definitely recommend it. 5 stars.

:c capitulo 145, capitulo final

Season 4, chapters 118-145, Abandoned Empress series completed.

I really like the start of the series. Aristia was headstrong in her determination to not love Prince Ruve, but at some point, her conviction to that statement became like an excuse for her to just hide. I really really hated her indecisiveness. She's make her decision and then be glad it wasn't followed through and then continue on making the same type of decisions over and over. Honestly, Jieun had a better resolve than Tia ever did. Jieun served her part well in this second life and I think she's much happier in this life now too.

It was an overall acceptable ending though it seemed very rushed the last 10 chapters. It touched up on all the major plot points and all the characters reaped what they had sown.

3.5 stars

A child of prophecy, Aristia was raised to become the future emperor's wife--until it turns out the true prophesied girl was accidentally raised in another world, falling back into her "true" world just in time to disrupt Aristia's marriage, which eventually gets Tia executed based on lies. As an apology for fucking up so bad, the gods (or god?) of the world sends Tia back in time, awakening her at age 10 but with her previous life's memories intact. This time, she decides, she'll untangle herself from the royal family and do things her way.

This series is definitely much better when you can read multiple volumes at a time (or, I assume, can binge many episodes on its original website). By the end of volume four, two years have passed and Tia continues walking the line between being seen as a precocious child and delicately attempting to prepare for the day when that schoolgirl will fall from the sky and displace her--so she's carefully building skills and connections that should allow her to continue her own life, away from the royal family.

There are many bits that won't be a surprise to anyone familiar with the genre or even romantic fantasy stories, but that doesn't mean they're bad: sure, everyone in her usual circle finds Tia charming, but she does put effort into being kind and likable. There are currently 3 potential love interests, but at least two of them are enmeshed in the tightrope-thin plot Tia has to balance to eventually save herself.

Visually, the story continues to be great, with full-color illustrations and good-quality, glossy paper.

This is the final season/volume of the Abandoned Empress, and I have to say it left a few things unsaid or unexplained and the ending felt kind of rushed. We finally get some answers as to what happened in their alternative life, and see why many of the things that happened, happened that way, and we understand the characters better. Not that anything would justify everything Ruvellis did in his previous incarnation, but at least we kind of see where he was coming from and the extenuating circumstances, but it also makes his new incarnation better, because he is a more mature and empathic version.

I felt it was unjust of our time travelers to keep punishing people for things they did in another life, but at least they managed to get some clarity at the end and do the right thing. I feel bad for some of the characters at the end, and I would have liked to see more and get my happy ending for them. I like that the main character, Aristia got her happy ending, but what about the others? She did a lot to change the world around her during her second incarnation, but she didn't see how she was affecting some of them with her actions. I get it, just because someone loves you, you don't owe him anything, but still, I wish them a happy ending at least, for they helped her in her journey and deserve the best.

I heard there is a novel, wish I could see if it has a better ending.

This was supposed to be a quick story. I first saw it was already finished and thought: “This is too good to be true. There are not many manghwas like these that are finished. This must be a blessing.

It was not.

The story follows a cliche of returning back in time after being neglected. Our FL is basically sent backwards by god’s power; and I loved how it started. I really did. Until they had two seasons of her being a “Bella Swan and never choosing anything.

Ruve, I know you could have been a bad guy, but I actually loved you more than anything. You did not give up. I’m adding you to the list of unattainable men I dream of often.

Our FL is somewhat of a disappointment and a change up. She is not suddenly this feminist “I can do it all and neither she is completely taken care of. Good balance. Yet, she is indecisive, she has her reasons, for too long. Even when JiEun appears, she is just doing nothing after all she has learned in the future.

I loved the ending tho. I cried like I was watching Titanic and was so fucking happy that I now am thinking of where to use the wallpaper of the last panel. Yes, priorities.

Anyways, I give this saga a solid 3 stars. It could have been four if Tia would take a risk for once.
But art style 10/10
Complex politics 10/10
Ruwe 20/10
Worldbuilding 9/10
Ending 9/10

I am starting to think a few different theories now.

1) The prince somehow was the cause (accidental) of tia’s mother’s death.

2) that she was not in fact reincarnated but instead granted the memories of her older life. That there’s legitimately the scorned ghost of herself ready to cut a B**** out there.

3) gods a pussy and should, in fact, be torn down from the sky like a curtain with a rabid cat on it.

4) while the prince of the other timeline deserves all the shit he could get this one is still relatively innocent. That Tia by rights could crunch Jiuen’s “divine ordainment under her foot if she chose.

5) currently the only viable, not messed up, option for romance is carsein. Either you have Trauma.JPEG, the streets are lit by gaslight: the boy, or carsein who’s just a rowdy boy with poor manners. Hopefully something shifts in the dynamics.

And finally 6) dear god I hope I’m wrong but tia might be related to the royal family somehow. As the prince’s mother is shown but has zero desire and disappears off into milk land I think she’s simply a placeholder. It’s also weirdly implied that both the king and Tias father are impotent now?? Or have always been? The prince also seems to have a weird connection to tias mother.

5/5 estrellas

I would literally never recommend this thing to anybody. why? because she had options ( carsein 🥲) who would die for her, WHO WENT BLIND FOR HER, WHO TAUGHT HER SWORDMANSHIP but she went ahead and chose the same man who gave her pstd. sure, he killed her baby, cheated, killed her dad, had her licked his shoes off in front of peeps in the palace while she was the empress, forced himself onto her and killed her all under the influence of a drug but still, she has someone like carsein by her side and this mf fumbled? i cant even. i can see it if the author might want to make tia forgive ruve after doing all that because of the drug that he was fed, but for her to marry him? the reason why he was so brutal with her back then also linked back towards his inferiority complex towards her like carsein is SO MUCH BETTER.

the first few volumes were good. but then she became a damsel, wasting those years she had worked so hard to become a knight just so the plot could “redeem ruve.

read this if you want high blood pressure

Less doom, more hope, and a pinch of moe

Oh, Allendis, why do you hurt my heart so?! The way you're acting, I can't keep you as my fav.... 🥲

Ahem.

After our MC princess recovers from major soul searching, (and some weird prince flashbacks that make me very confused about his character,) or heroine is finally making some progress in changing her fate. The drowning depression/despair has quieted down with new hope and acceptance. I'm looking forward to volume 5!

...OK, I mean, come on, Allen! WTF! Why are you suddenly super creepy?! Can we get some sort of clue why he's obsessed?! Or is it just a case of genius bordering insanity? Dunno...

Oh, and I am a little peeved about the prince. Is he really that blind to how he treats her? Or is he so tsundere that he turns yandere in the original timeline?

I am so done with this story.

Tia was a great character at the beginning. I could really empathise with her and I thought she was great, but now, the romance has really made her lose all her strengths and likeableness.
So much so, that I took her off my "kickass mcs" list.
I think this would have been way better as a women empowerment story than it was as a romance.
There were some really great side characters, but now its all about the romance and though I don't like the main love interest, I can stand to read it. What I can't stand to read is Tia's back and forth when it's plain obvious she's gonna end up with you know who.
So much for what could have been a great story, it's really sad.
