Overall; this was such a good journey!! A strong and knowledge female lead, action packed and very addictive story, great romance, amazing art, everything rocked! I keep coming back to this manga and repeating the amazing parts of the couple and their child. I think the only thing bothered me was the ending which felt a bit unsatisfying for me. It kinda felt rushed and not well spaced after the second time skip. I feel like the political aspects of the story could have been handled better at the end but oh well, at least THERE IS A SEQUEL!!!
It's called Golden Time. Just google it with the authors name (Ryu Hyang) and you'll find the next webtoon. It's only at ch. 5 so far and updating a bit slow but so far it's good. The story is about Alex and a girl named Jessica it’s kinda a vice versa version of light and shadow. Give it a chance as well!

THIS. IS. SUCH. A. GOOD. MANGA. The perfect balance of drama, romance, mystery, and action. But why are these chapters so short ╥﹏�
Wow. I never thought I would be this much wowed by the development of a female lead after Yona. Edna is the best!
The basic story is that the female lead, Edna is a girl raised as a man to have a chance on the royal successor. Stuff happens and there are coup d'etat and she has to run away where she has to be a maid and work on some small noble, the story starts here. The noble decides to disguise her as his daughter and makes her marry this 'horrible' duke called Eli but it turns out he's not that horrible at all ;)
Edna is an amazing character because her father, the King, is depraved, insane and absolute trash but even though Edna grew around her father witnessing such cruelty and depravity she still ended up as ok. I feel that normally someone as privileged would lack empathy, be self-absorbed, selfish and uncaring but nope, not Edna. That's not her.
There's a certain, how to say this, a
If you look past 'that' and continue to read on you will find your self forgiving that horrid scene and move on with the story. Just because the series showed something distasteful in that one chapter doesn't mean that's how the series will be.
This story is great and interesting because the characters are well developed and have complex upbringing in a quite cruel environment. Up till now we've at least seen pedophilia, murder of children or using children as baits for dogs just with the previous king (at this level he could almost have come right out of Game of Thrones), so there's cruelty and also loneliness and longing for a loving parent depicted in every character's childhood. However, do not worry. The characters are starting to find see the light the end of the tunnel thanks to each other.
Both main characters are fighters who do make progress despite the challenges they face, and there's even some comedy here and there. Actually, not to spoil anything but, both Eli and Edna's presence is nothing but a mirror image of each other defines the title really well.
There are only two things I don't like about this webtoon really;
1. The chapters are hella short.
2. Are all the fathers in this story just plain assholes? I'm so ticked of right now! Even if they throw themselves to the dogs, they won't eat such garbage. Poor dogs will get sick instead. I'm disgusted by these fathers! (╬￣皿￣)�
To sum up; the story starts really tragic, there are still tragic elements here and there (both leads had horrible childhoods thanks to their dads) but otherwise, the story is incredibly addictive.

I would've loved to have started the new year by reading a physical book with more words than pictures, but alas this one enticed me before I could even start any novels.
I have no complaints tho.
This was one of the cutest and most adorable webtoons I have read in a while. The two main characters are absolute angels, I can't even at this point. I've never loved two characters more in my life and they are so perfect.
It was refreshing to read about a headstrong, determined, and stubborn, female protagonist that worked alongside her people. Even though she had a husband that tried to keep her safe b minimizing her involvement, she never took it as an insult. Instead, she saw it as her husband's love for her. (which is fricking beautiful)
Same with her husband. I think both character arcs were super, super well done. Both of their back stories were well thought out and really helped contribute to each of the character's personalities. We actually had a live and living cast here. If anything, the organization of the events could have been a little clearer, just because some of the details and names got a little muddled.
The plot itself, was beautiful. I loved the progression, even though I could very well tell the direction of the plot. So the story itself wasn't anything new. However, for the story that was told it was beautifully and exceptionally executed.
I really loved how the author tried to tie up every loose end. She even went as far as to extend the story a little to complete Cayden's arc as well. Although, I would have loved to see those last two chapters drawn out a little more, just because they really came out of almost nowhere.
The only other thing that confuddled me a little was the marriage between Edna and Eli. Cutest couple, absolutely beautiful. They are two completely compatible people and both are absolute angels. And so, the compatibility of the characters is likely the only reason I think their relationship evolved so quickly from mistrust. The author could have definitely drawn out their relationship a bit more, especially since we rarely see the characters communicate.
The reason for that is because the webtoon focuses more on the philanthropic side of the two characters, and the two characters individually as opposed to their relationship. So, even though I would've loved to see their relationship be better established, the execution was still beautiful.

For so long I wanted to dive into reading manhwa, and light and shadow being the first one, I've to say I love LOVED it far more than I'd expected.
Edna is one headstrong, badass, stubborn yet kind character who I can't help but STAN. She reminds me so much of another manga/anime character, Erza Scarlet from the Fairy Tail series.
The only thing which I found a bit disturbing would be the few panels from the first one or two chapters. I wish Edna and Eli's relationship didn't start off with that note but if I look at the period the story is set, I kind of understand why it had to happen. That's totally my take on it. But that's still not good enough reason to invalidate the feelings victims of sexual abuse might have once they read those panels.
Now about the side characters, can I just say how much I love them? If it were possible for the writer, I'd want them to write and illustrate standalone series for the side chars itself!
Ria's and Chris' backstory absolutely broke me. And even for some of the supposed antagonists, I couldn't help but feel sorry for them.
I'd love nothing more than to come back and read this again.

I read this nonstop and it was amazing. I was hooked from start to finish. I literally couldn’t stop reading. I had to take a nap this afternoon when I finished because I was up till 1 am and then had a busy day. Worth it!
Edna and Eli were great together but Edna stole the show for me. She was this amazing woman warrior that kept surprising me and all the people around her. It was great to see a woman have so much grace and power and at the same time be so kind and dedicated to the people she loved. It was full of romance and fighting and war. But it also had a lot of heart. It was cheesy at times and a little comical. It was a fun read full or romance and adventure.
The one complaint I have is at the beginning, please skip the first two chapters of this webtoon. The serves no purpose. Seriously, it could have been taken out. It didn’t add to the story it just made me want to not read it. Thankfully I continued reading because it was a great story.

I can not make myself give a book, or in this case a webtoon, more than two stars because the sexual assault. It was unnecessary.
The main female MC, Edna, is raped by her soon to be husband, Eli. She clearly doesn't want it, she says no, and still he pushes it. She gives in to save herself from her identity being exposed and being killed. (I wont explain those two reasons, because they are big spoilers.) Yet even i f she gave in I don't understand how someone could sleep with another person if they show they are in pain and not enjoying it.
Our two MC obviously fall in love and Eli only regrets the rape after he starts caring about Edna and because she was a virgin. His apology is literally "oh, sorry about that. " Yes, she laughs it off.
Anyway if you want to look past the rape and pretend it didn't happen then you'll actually enjoy this webtoon. Edna is smart, strong, and caring. Eli is adorable and awkward. (Which makes me question why the creators even thought Eli was capable of rape.) The story is entertaining and despite your morals you will begin to ship Edna and Eli.

I love Eli and Edna so very much.
I did not think this story was going to become so dear to me, but damn, I love this one so much!!! The arc developments, the romance, the fighting, EVERYTHING!!!

Je suis tombée dessus par hasard, et j’ai beaucoup aimé cette jolie romance historique à l’ancienne, même si ça va trop vite parfois (mais bon pour une fois que le manga est court, je ne vais pas trop me plaindre).

Read this on a binge because it was just that good! I was hesitant to continue with this when I first began, but considering the feudal system, I proceeded further. I’m happy to admit that the story and the characters fledged out well and plot developed spectacularly. I always find it tough to find the right kind of romance to read, but this had all the other elements to make it a good read � drama, complex pasts, strong characters, humour, intensity� basically, it kept me wanting to go on until the end.

Strong female lead poses as a boy to learn to rule, then when a coup to overthrow her parent Eden dies and becomes Edna. Light & Shadow is a story about a girl who swears to wear the blood of her enemies in later years and the results of her journey. It is also about Eden’s relationship with her husband and living with his dark past. It’s pretty epic!

Harika bir yolculuğun sonuna gelmişken doymuş bir kedi kadar mutlu, sevilen bir tavşan kadar enerjik durumdayım. Japon çizgi romanı olan Light and Shadow, Işık ve Gölge serisinin ilkini bitirmiş olmanın huzuru hakim üzerimde.
Seri isminin hakkını veren güçlü ve bir o kadar güzel başrol karakterler ile vedalaşması ise biraz zor oldu benim için. Neyse ki devamı var ve çevirisi de bölüm bölüm yayınlanıyor. Işık ve Gölge serinin ilki, devamında ise çocuklarının hikayesini okuyacağız Golden Time, Altın Zaman da. 😍
Konu, karakterlerin geçmişi, ilişkilerin uzayıp tadının kaçmaması hızlı ilerleyen kurgusu ile müthiş bir seri. Aksiyonu bitmiyor, dramı yerinde, gizemi bol, kendine mühürleyen romantizmi de var, ee daha ne olsun ama değil mi?
Konusuna gelecek olursam; Edna'nın, kraliyet yönetimi üzerinde söz hakkına sahip olması için erkek olarak yetiştirilmiş ama tek sorun Edna'nın bir kız olması. Kralın elbette düşmanları var ve günün birinde darbe oluyor, kraliyetteki çoğu kişi bu baskında hayatını kaybediyor. Gizli geçitten kaçırılan Edna hayatta kalması için farklı bir kimlikle yaşamaya devam etmesi gerekiyor. Okuduğum çoğu manga ve webtoonlarda karşıma çıkan karakterlerden çok daha direyetli ve güçlü bir karakter Edna, her ne yaşarsa yaşasın asla kendinden ödün vermiyor, içinde olduğu durumu iyiye çeviriyor. Enda gibi Eli de karşısına çıkan zorluklara göğüs geren, her şeye rağmen ilerleme kaydeden bir dövüşçüdür. Birbirlerine ayna olmuşlardır, kendilerinden başka güvenecek kimsenin olmadığını bilerek elleri birleşiyor ve tünelin sonundaki ışığa beraber kavuşuyorlar.
Trajik başlayan bir hikayeye sahip Işık ve Gölge (Light and Shadow), babalarından müzdarip sevgisiz büyüyen iki karakter, buna rağmen kendini yetiştirip gelişmiş kişiler. Aralarındaki güçlenen güven, zamanla büyüyen aşk, temeli sağlam atılan güven öyle hissedilir ve güzeldi ki ben çok sevdim. Bir de yer yer karşımıza çıkan komik sahnelere sağlam güldüm. Galera vamos falar sobre essa história que poderia levar 3 estrelas de boas, mas por conta dos dois primeiros capítulos se sujeitou ao fracasso e o abandono (com razão) de diversos leitores. Vamos lá, spoilers e trigger warnings necessários: a principal é estuprada nos dois (ou três) primeiros capítulos pelo personagem principal. Aí você me pergunta, "então ele é do mal?" Não! É o interesse amoroso da história. "Tem algum motivo?" LITERALMENTE NÃO!
A autora literalmente fez ele estuprar a principal como uma tentativa de deixar a personagem principal com medo dele. Literalmente mostra ela chorando de dor, novamente, qual foi a necessidade? Nenhuma, porque do nada o principal vira uma pessoa extremamente doce e boazinha com a principal. Não faz sentido nenhum. Ela poderia ter feito tantas outras coisas para tentar assustar a personagem principal, contasse uma história dele na guerra matando todo mundo, sei lá. Ridículo.
Depois da catástrofe dos primeiros capítulos, a história é bem sólida, não shippei os principais por motivos óbvios, mas eles se tornam um casal normal. A principal é fodona e forte, o que é legal. Os capítulos são bem curtos, o que faz com que a história passe muito rápido, mas tem horas que para a quantidade de plots de o manwha tem, parece passar rápido demais e parece que falta de desenvolvimento. Os vilões da história são meio frouxos e as coisas eram resolvidas com tanta rapidez que nem dava para sentir raiva. Honestamente, nos últimos 20 capítulos eu já estava cansada, mas eu já estava no final, então, persisti. A realidade é uma história que tinha tudo para ser ok e mediana para mim, mas o começo me tirou qualquer vontade de me aproximar dos personagens.

Não recomendaria essa história porque assim, né? Pra que recomendar relacionamento abusivo? Triste, uma história com potencial estragada pela autora por zero motivos.
Galera vamos falar sobre essa história que poderia levar 3 estrelas de boas, mas por conta dos dois primeiros capítulos se sujeitou ao fracasso e o abandono (com razão) de diversos leitores. Vamos lá, spoilers e trigger warnings necessários: a principal é estuprada nos dois (ou três) primeiros capítulos pelo personagem principal. Aí você me pergunta, "então ele é do mal?" Não! É o interesse amoroso da história. "Tem algum motivo?" LITERALMENTE NÃO!
A autora literalmente fez ele estuprar a principal como uma tentativa de deixar a personagem principal com medo dele. Literalmente mostra ela chorando de dor, novamente, qual foi a necessidade? Nenhuma, porque do nada o principal vira uma pessoa extremamente doce e boazinha com a principal. Não faz sentido nenhum. Ela poderia ter feito tantas outras coisas para tentar assustar a personagem principal, contasse uma história dele na guerra matando todo mundo, sei lá. Ridículo.
Depois da catástrofe dos primeiros capítulos, a história é bem sólida, não shippei os principais por motivos óbvios, mas eles se tornam um casal normal. A principal é fodona e forte, o que é legal. Os capítulos são bem curtos, o que faz com que a história passe muito rápido, mas tem horas que para a quantidade de plots de o manwha tem, parece passar rápido demais e parece que falta de desenvolvimento. Os vilões da história são meio frouxos e as coisas eram resolvidas com tanta rapidez que nem dava para sentir raiva. Honestamente, nos últimos 20 capítulos eu já estava cansada, mas eu já estava no final, então, persisti. Overall
This webtoon/manga was very engaging from the get go. On its surface it seems that everything is pretty standard for an adult fantasy manga, but after a few chapters is reveals itself to have depth and plot twists that are engaging. The characters are endearing, although Edna and Eli get off to a rough start, I just fell in love with them. Shipped hard, as it were. Edna is an amazing protagonist and it was refreshing to have a woman enjoy being a woman and powerful in her own right. Eli was the more honest of the two and straight forward, which made some of his early decision easily forgiven. The supporting characters were fantastic. You even get a lot of back story, which was awesome! Only complaint was the sudden jump in the timeline and some of Edna’s choices…to foolishly hide.
The art was beautiful and enriched. It showed improvement in grace as the series progressed, melting away any earlier stiffness in the characters. Totally rocked the expressions!

I remembered I paid to read this and thought at the time, it's worth it. I was fangirling so hard throughout the story. It's Korean manhwa which meant bromance and oppa. And I wasn't let down. For me, it was perfect in everything.
The story is the first in a trilogy and it took three years for this one to be done and another year or so for it to be fully translated. Can you feel my frustration? But like I mentioned, totally worth it.
The first story focus on Edna and Eli. At first it sounded like any historical romance story. Edna was a slave where she was forced to replace her master's daughter to marry a man that was known as a War Butcher. That alone has captured my attention.
As the story progress, there's more to it than just meet the eyes. Both Edna and Eli had their own secrets. Did I mention it was worth it? Please support the creator by reading it at the proper channel. Yes, you'll have to pay but, I'm sounding like a broken record here, it's worth it.

Well this was quite fun! Loved Edna/Eden as a character and I wish she had more badass fighting moments! Damn but I lived for those moments when she got to fight in the thick of things! How freaking cool is her whip by the way???
Also Eli was just the sweetest! I had qualms about him because of his actions in the first chapter but he never does that shit again and even apologies for being an ass. And well, I just love him as the supportive husband!
Wish Edna had taken over the crown at the end. She really has a knack for ruling and inspiring loyalty in people but I guess she wanted the quite life more. The ending 10 chapters or so were so very rushed. So much plot happened in the space of a few chapters really should have just slowed down a little.
Overall its a fun read if you're in the mood for some historical webtoon with badass heroine! 3 stars.

Pues... me decidí a leerlo porque los anuncios del móvil no dejaban de proponermelo y encima con imágenes provocativas XD

Estoy acostumbrada a leer manga pero no manwha, por eso me parece que el manga pese a ser en blanco y negro, es mucho más elaborado, y en parte lo prefiero porque el dibujo suele ser bastante mejor. Aun así, aquí el dibujo y el juego con los colores es bastante agradable.
Suelo leer shounen y esto se supone que es un seinen o josei (algo mucho más maduro, con giros impredecibles y que no tiene porqué acabar con un final feliz). Pues... asó parecía. Es verdad que la historia empieza con temas maduros y controvertidos: violaciones, suicidios etc...
Pero el final es super happy y solo hay una muerte en toda la historia del bando de los buenos, y de un personaje terciario (no llega ni a secundario).
Además, la historia se desarrolla muy deprisa y demasiado fácilmente. Y la guerra final se soluciona de manera absurda. Incluido el asunto del trono y la sucesión. Me parecieron terribles, demasiado convenientes.
Me gustó mucho Edna, y que la historia se centre sobre todo en ella. Que fuera capaz de hacer cualquier cosa por los suyos y por su familia. Es una mujer fuerte, una auténtica heroína que no se atormenta por los crimenes de su padre ni por su herencia. Ella busca siempre lo mejor para todos, lo más justo. No le falta carácter, no le falla el pulso a la hora de combatir y vencer (matar incluido... pero solo a tiranos XD) y sabe usar el látigo y la espada.
Eli, pese a que es bueno con los suyos, siguió pareciéndome hasta el final, un bruto y un salvaje.
Lo que no me gustó nada de nada, fue la primera noche de Edna con Eli y lo fácilmente que parece que se les olvida a los dos que la forzó. En cierto modo la obligó a acostarse con él (Edna esta dispuesta a sobrevivir), ella misma admite en la segunda noche que le dolió... Y como que no pasa nada. Enseguida se enamoran... pues no. No y No. Solo por eso se merece una estrella. Pero es cierto que la historia engancha y tiene buenos giros.
Lo peor es el final, demasiado edulcorado.
En fin, 3 estrellas sobre 5 porque le falla el final y por la escena forzosa de la primera noche y lo poco que parece importar (y ya puede dar gracias de no llevarse solo 1)

Manhwa pertama yang aku baca. Edna dan Eli pasangan saling mendukung satu sama lain demi kemajuan kerajaan mereka. Edna tipe female lead yang tidak pantang menyerah, cerdas, dan berani. Eli pun memiliki karakter yang sama dengan Edna, cerdas dan keras kepala.
Kekurangan manhwa ini di adegan pertama, ada pelecehan seksual yang dilakukan oleh Eli. Walaupun sudah menikah, dalam berhubungan seksual juga harus ada consent dari pasangan. Untuk teman-teman, adegan awal di manhwa ini mengandung pelecehan seksual.

I haven't read manga for years, and it's not usually something I go for when looking for something to read, but I was so invested in this and it really pulled me out of a reading slump. I came across an ad for it online and read a sample chapter and I was straight-up hooked. The story was cute, funny, romantic and had a strong female lead. The side characters were also all very strong and well plotted. I loved the illustration, and this has inspired me to include more manga in my regular reading. It was all wrapped up nice and neatly at the end, but in a cute and satisfying way, and it was really just exactly what I wanted to read for something light and easy.

It frequently come to my mind her first night at the Eli's castle and the sex to which she was forced to. Besides that i must say Edna is freaking badass and i love her. I was enjoying reading that plot wasn't something unexpected but hte love of this two harased by life people was sweet and i can't force myself not to like them

It had a very sketchy start (tw: dub-con) but I ended up enjoying this graphic novel. It had more twists and depth than I thought it would. The plot ideas were pretty cool, though the execution and dialogues a bit simplistic at times.
Especially the revelation twist between Edna and Eli felt a tad bit weak and I was disappointed. Still it was a fun read and the art was pretty.

J'ai vraiment apprécié qu'une femme soit aussi forte voir même plus forte qu'un homme sur le plan physique et d'autant plus à cette époque. La relation que Edna et Eli est très touchante et j'apprécie énormément leur relation (même si ça n'est pas parti du meilleur pied.)
