4.5 stars, this was a whole puzzle of a book, the best kind, a maybe too perfect coming to a full circle kind but idc I enjoyed it so much, like instead of making me fall asleep I'd end up awake for hours and hours bc I had to know what happened next. I love my petty dysfunctional king Ji Yushi, the almost too cringily earnest if he wasn't massively cool captain song and their team of lovable lightbulbs ?? this was a ride from start to finish, I love time travel stories

Xu Tangzhou, at 22, is an omega who has recently debuted in the entertainment industry. His latest project: a reality game show that will pair him with a senior at his company, a super-hot super-popular alpha singer whose recent crass comments about omegas have landed him in some hot water with a need for image rehabilitation. Xu Tangzhou has been a fan of the singer, Ling Che, since before he can remember -- literally, as he suffered a traumatic injury several years ago and has no remaining memories from middle or high school.

But after waking up in the hospital he found his room at home filled with limited and signed editions of Ling Che's earliest albums, and, well, he's weak for Ling Che's face. Even if Ling Che appears to be the kind of asshole alpha who says things like "omegas can't choose partners on love alone" and "they're slaves to pheromone compatibility." It's especially a shock to those fans who speculate Ling Che's first hit single "Asteroid" was about an omega who broke his heart, but maybe that's the reason he's still so bitter. Xu Tangzhou is not only a fan, he's a budding professional: he's happy to play nice and get along for the week the show will be filming them. He tells Ling Che so, when they meet.

To which Ling Che replies: "Oh, you're pretending we don't know each other? ... whatever, Zai Zai. I'm not here because of you, and this isn't about our past."

Xu Tangzhoug: "..................!?!?"

More like 3.75 stars -- I can't lie and say I didn't enjoy reading this one... because I really, really did. But as sweet and smooth as it went down, left something of a yucky aftertaste.

The problem is that, as irresistible and fun and ridiculous as the premise is (and it IS, and it is DELIGHTFUL) I can't help but feel I've seen a lot of what's done here, done better.

Let me be real: a lot of this was really reminiscent of &濒迟;诟病&驳迟;, currently being translated as Morbid Attachment, aka one of my all-time favorite danmei titles. Morbid Attachment also features a gong character who is an insanely famous singer and a not-so-famous actor shou. In Morbid Attachment, the gong also has information about their relationship the shou lacks, and is the one who got broken up with but never got over the relationship, which happened before his fame. There are also a lot of superficial similarities, like how an individual's pheromones have distinct scents that mix with marking, or the reality show setting, or the singer gong hiding a love confession in musical notes. But most crucially, both stories are A/B/O verse where the lead couple is wrestling with the issue of biological incompatibility.

In Morbid Attachment, that's an alpha/alpha romance. But in this novel, translated under the title Asteroid, it's the idea that pheromone compatibility is calculated and affects whether or not alphas can permanently mark their omegas. (Which was also the issue with an alpha/alpha romance in Morbid Attachment.) Permanent marks, in both books, are a big fucking deal which can make or break a couple. Even if you love each other, without a permanent mark the relationship will suffer (for varying reasons, according to the world building of each book).

Now, these are popular tropes and a lot of books share them, even if the amount of similarities in this case is higher than usual, or more specific than usual. Truthfully, I have no idea which was written first! But what I mean is: I'm not down on this novel because one of my favorites is similar; I picked up this novel because this is the shit I love, on and on, without end. And, initially, I felt like there were more than enough differences (like Xu Tangzhou's amnesia, or that they fell in love as teenagers, or just the fact the character personalities were very different) that I was happy to expect a very different story, beyond the switch from alpha/alpha to alpha/omega romance. I'm like, hey man, I love entertainment circle romances, I love second change romances, and even A/B/O when it's treated as serious worldbuilding and not a way to fetishize the gong/shou dynamic. I will order that meal every day I can get it.

................. yeah, about that last requirement.

Asteroid absolutely falls into that trap, and it brings the whole thing down in my estimation. It started off with seemingly good intentions. Early on there's a lot of stuff about a side couple who is alpha/beta, and how that affects the way their relationship is treated by both society and fans. There's also some interesting probing at how secondary gender affects one's perception in society and relationships, or the biological issues different genders have to face. Plus there was that calculated lack of basic compatibility between Ling Che and Xu Tangzhou: could they overcome how it would affect them? Did biology even matter in the face of their feelings? This was all delicious, amazing, I loved it.

But then it all kind of falls apart when

So that was all disappointing. Not as disappointing as some other recent titles (looking at you, MTSF), though, and I cannot deny I devoured this novel within a matter of days. It was tightly-plotted, with an intriguing premise and really likeable characters. I just wish it'd been a bit braver, and stuck the landing, and maybe taken a page out of The Missing Piece when it comes to focusing on the shou's strength in recovery from trauma, rather than having all his struggles subsumed into fascination with the gong's strength in becoming his protector.

I still read over that premise and sigh with happiness, because it hits so many of my buttons... but yeah, in the end? The author and I like very different things.

English name: Asteriod

I don't usually read ABO novels, but this sounded cute and it's set in the entertainment world, so I decided to give it a try.

It follows the MC, an omega called Xu Tangzhou, as he enters the entertainment world as a newcomer. He used to model as a teenager due to his mom's influence, but it's been many years since then and he wants to start afresh since he doesn't remember his modeling years. He got into an accident and suffers from amnesia, so he doesn't remember anything after the age of 12 until he woke up from his coma.

As his first activity, XTZ joins a reality TV show that sends 3 pairs of people to a tourist island off the coast of Africa and compete to see who has the most amount of money left by the end of the week. The kicker is that XTZ's partner for this show is his alpha ex (though he doesn't remember it), Ling Che. In the past, the MC abruptly broke up with Ling Che and kinda left him traumatized, so obviously they get off to a rough start when they first meet. Ling Che continues to treat Xu Tangzhou coldly until he eventually learns that the latter suffers from amnesia and doesn't remember their relationship at all, and then he starts treating XTZ a bit more nicely and the sweetness finally starts. It was a bit painful to read up to that point though.

**Warning: Spoilers Ahead**

Overall I enjoyed the story and thought the romance was super sweet once it eventually started, but I do have some issues with the story. For one, I'm not sure how Ling Che didn't pick up on Xu Tangzhou's amnesia at all based on their interactions. He only found out much later, and if he really knew XTZ as well as he claims, then he should've gotten at least a bit suspicious.

Their communication could've been better too, since Ling Che just assumes things without letting XTZ know. XTZ got himself in trouble with Ling Che because he didn't realize they were dating after the temporary marks, but to be fair, it wasn't obvious at all and it came as a surprise to me as well. I was also quite frustrated with the MC's small lies which added up and resulted in a very angry Ling Che when he finally found out. Once the MC learned that he broke up with Ling Che because of their shockingly low pheromone compatibility rate of 18%, he should've come clean to Ling Che and worked together to figure something out, rather than straight up lying about it. The most painful lie had to be the one he said when he first broke up, about finding another alpha with 80% compatibility. That was a terrible excuse for the break up and had Ling Che messed up for the entirety of their whole separation.

The best part of the story for me came near the end, after Xu Tangzhou came clean to Ling Che about all of his lies and the air is completely cleared up between them. Then I finally started enjoying all of the sweetness, like Ling Che's confession at his concert and all of their secret visits to each other.

I enjoyed the side stories focused on them, especially the ones about how they first met and became friends, but I skipped the ones about the two other side couples as I didn't care.

A/B/O story revolving around cold Alpha x amnesiac Omega

It was an interesting read; lots and lots of misunderstandings that I felt could be resolved by talking or communicating, but of course the book probably wouldn't be that long with that. Started to get a little frustrated with how one-sided their love story seemed (to me) though: the Omega would do anything and everything to keep the Alpha content and stay with him, and just generally stay in an inferior position in their relationship. I haven't finished the extras just because I feel nothing much can change in their relationship/no sudden "character development" will be made

a 4/5 read

kayaknya aku kena demam CP Zero Sugar wkwk
manisnya kebangetannn
