The Unhoneymooners meets The Hating Game in this witty, clever, and swoonworthy novel following a workaholic marketing manager who is forced to go on a cruise with her arch-nemesis when they’re up for the same promotion.

Between taking night classes for her MBA and her demanding day job at a cruise line, marketing manager Henley Evans barely has time for herself, let alone family, friends, or dating. But when she’s shortlisted for the promotion of her dreams, all her sacrifices finally seem worth it.

The only problem? Graeme Crawford-Collins, the remote social media manager and the bane of her existence, is also up for the position. Although they’ve never met in person, their epic email battles are the stuff of office legend.

Their boss tasks each of them with drafting a proposal on how to boost bookings in the Galápagos—best proposal wins the promotion. There’s just one catch: they have to go on a company cruise to the Galápagos Islands...together. But when the two meet on the ship, Henley is shocked to discover that the real Graeme is nothing like she imagined. As they explore the Islands together, she soon finds the line between loathing and liking thinner than a postcard.

With her career dreams in her sights and a growing attraction to the competition, Henley begins questioning her life choices. Because what’s the point of working all the time if you never actually live?

Perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Sally Thorne, Shipped is a fresh and engaging rom-com that celebrates the power of second chances and the magic of new beginnings.

Ladies and gentlemen! Make some noise for one of the sweetest, most tempting, enchanting, heartfelt, hilarious, romantic novels I’ve read lately!

And let’s raise our glasses (actually I already finished another bottle during my read: sorry, I got my thirsty when I get excited!) to those brilliant characters: Henley and Graeme - even though name choices are a little strange, Henley is shining like a rock star and Graeme is deliciously charming to consume with marshmallow and dark chocolate during your camp trip!

It’s true this is great mashup of Hating Games meet Honeymooners! I have to admit: it is so much better than the both books because:

- Better approach to frenemies: There is enemies to lovers theme as you may guess but characters are not childish, immature or obnoxious! As soon as you learn more about their back stories, you start to empathize with both of them. And their sizzling, outstandingly hot, smoking chemistry hooks you up and you just find yourself chanting them to kiss and tear each other’s clothes!
- Absolutely better characterization: Henley is hard worker, disciplined but also caring, golden hearted, loyal heroine. She works her ass off to achieve her goals and she always plays fair, does everything to protect her loved ones even though it means babysitting, spoiling her sister. And Graeme was sweet, sexy, smart and emotional hero: a dreamy book boyfriend who always supportive, caring and lovely from the beginning.
- Spectacular location: The cruise to Galapagos with its remarkable nature, memorable views is the perfect choice for growing romance and it also takes your mind away and make you smile so deeply as you wear your ugly pajamas, lying on your couch and holding this digital copy of the book. Even you look miserable, this book takes you places and helps you visualize your postponed holiday plans.
- Best supporting characters Oscar goes to....: Supporting characters are so lovely! In the beginning, I have questions about Walsh: yes she is flirty, spoiled brat who seems lost and no proper idea how to form her life path but at the second half of the book, I enjoyed her energetic, hot blooded, straightforward characteristics. But NIKOLAI STOLE THE SHOW! I laughed so hard at his parts! Especially his dance moves! Okay I gave away too much. I stop right here!
-
Overall: Ultra entertaining, spectacular romcom, a fantastic cruise trip, friendship, sisterhood, women power, hot chemistry, true romance, adorable characters. What are you waiting for! Go and attend that journey!

I’m giving five blazing, breezy, exotic, well-earned stars! This is a brilliant debut and I congratulate Angie Hockman for writing this remarkable journey! I cannot wait to read her upcoming works!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for sharing this incredible ARC with me in exchange my honest opinions.

To compare this book to and is a disservice to what I consider to be my all time favourite romance novels. The fact that I genuinely believed I was going to love this book, makes my disappointment 10 times worse.

In a nutshell, Shipped is about Henley and Graeme who work together, have never met in person before, but are now running for the same position. Their boss assigns them the job to come up with a proposal to increase their sales at their travelling company and to do that they will be going on a week trip to the Galápagos Islands to find some inspiration. Henley hates Graeme, however, when they finally meet and get to know each other better, she finds out that maybe he is not the bad guy she thought he was.

From the first few pages, I could tell I was not going to love this one, simply because it didn’t grip me from the beginning and I wasn’t particularly liking the writing. Regardless, I was still hoping to enjoy it since the premise sounded like a story right up my alley.

I don’t want to be straight up mean and unfair to this book and its author, so I’m going to share the aspects I liked about it first. To start with, the love interest wasn’t a jackass - he was actually pretty nice.

description

I KNOW, SHOCKING, RIGHT?? I’m not kidding though, I made several notes on my ebook saying just that: “OMG HE’S SO NICE. Although that doesn’t really excuse him for being a super bland character in the end, but I'll get to that later. Secondly, this book is kind of funny, I’m not going to lie. I think that’s especially due to Nikolai, who is a guest on this trip and is completely enamored by Henley from the moment he lays his eyes on her.

A perfect example (a quote from him) follows:

I am like vodka. It is, on first taste, not everyone’s favorite. But after a few sips, you may find you like it.

description

Might sound creepy, but I swear in context, it's funny, especially when you imagine him saying it with a Russian accent, which he has.

And that’s it. That’s all I liked. Now, moving on to my rant. Grab some popcorn because this is going to be a long one.

description

My biggest issue with this book is the main character, Henley. OH MY GOD, HOW ANNOYING AND UNGRATEFUL CAN A PERSON BE?!?? I swear, at first, I really tried to give her the benefit of the doubt since she seemed to have a reasonable reason to dislike Graeme. But I could not endure her annoying ass self as she continues to grasp at straws for more reasons to hate him and be an asshole, after realising she had the wrong impression of him all along.

description

A comprehensive yet incomplete list of examples:

1) She skips breakfast to take care of her sister who ended up tagging along for the trip and got sick. Graeme notices, offers her his snack because they’re going for a long hike not too long after and she immediately flat out refuses. No “thank you”s, no “you don’t have to do that, nothing, zilch! But can you guess it? After a few lines of dialogue, she begrudgingly accepts it. As if SHE is doing HIM a favor. Ok, maybe you don’t think that’s a big deal. Sure, she was a bit rude, but so what? Well, don’t worry, I’m just getting started! :)

description

2) Graeme starts taking photos of the wildlife and nature they have on the island to kick start his proposal idea for the promotion, literally just doing his job, like they were supposed to, since that’s the whole reason they’re on that trip in the first place and this woman literally says “If this is how Graeme is going to play, I need to step up my game. What GAME IS HE PLAYING THOUGH????? He’s just doing HIS JOB!! She acts as if he has this whole plan to take her down, as if he’s shown any real indication of that throughout this entire novel, as if hasn’t been nothing but friendly and kind since they met in person for the first time, when, in fact, she’s the one who’s acting vindictive and vengeful. I mean, she literally writes in her notes, calls it a TASK, to defeat Graeme. Her. Literal. Words. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

description

3) They go snorkeling and Henley has an intense fear of bodies of water due to a traumatic experience in the ocean when she was a child. Graeme quickly realises she isn’t too keen on the idea to go snorkeling when the idea is first brought up a few chapters back. So when they do finally go snorkeling, he joins the beginners group along with Henley, although he isn’t really a newbie, since he’s worried about her. Henley tries to snorkel on her own, fails miserably because, like I’ve mentioned, she’s terrified of being underwater. Graeme at first goes to do his own thing, but then sees Henley struggling, offers to help, she reluctantly accepts it, and guess what? He’s able to get her to relax and they go snorkeling together. It’s great, they have an amazing time. But then what happens? Graeme lets it slip that he’s not a beginner and Henley just about freaks the hell out. She has a full on outburst about it saying she could have figured it out on her own and his help was useless. And, to add to that, freaking leaves him alone in the ocean, gets on a boat and goes back to the island. What the HECK is wrong with her????

description

4) She is constantly comparing her relationship with Graeme with the one she had with another guy at her old workplace who basically screwed her over. Look, I get it, it makes sense for her to be more hesitant about her relationship with Graeme, but that’s not an excuse for her to be a total bitch to him as well as constantly flipping back and forth on whether or not she wants to be with him.

Of course, we could always talk about how much of a bitch she is to her sister, or how she says Graeme doesn’t deserve the promotion because her idea is much better, even though it really isn’t the best in the context of what was asked for her, in my opinion (I know that, in the end, her boss turns out to be a complete dick and was planning to steal her idea and that’s why he chose Graeme’s proposal over hers, but, honestly, I agree with him when he says he didn’t think Henley’s was the best given the task required), but we’re not going to do that.

Since I briefly mentioned it, I guess we can talk about that last three chapters because what the bloody hell was that??? (yes, I have turned British) The drama was so unnecessary for this story, I couldn't care less. Why would I give a flying crap about her boss and how much of a jerk he is? I get it that the author was probably trying to take a stance on the injustices that many women face on their male-dominant workplaces on a daily basis, but how is that relevant to a ROMANCE novel???? Maybe if this was women’s fiction or an adult contemporary, but this a ROMANCE novel, I’m reading this book because I want ROMANCE. I feel like it’s pretty self-explanatory. Sure, you can include other themes, the story doesn’t have to be ALL about the main relationship. But waste THREE chapters on this useless conflict, ESPECIALLY the LAST chapter where I would expect the relationship to be consolidated and have a proper resolution to (instead of the protagonist and her love interest being on an Uber and the latter referring to the former as his girlfriend and her being like “oh really? I’m your girlfriend? and that’s how THAT happens???)?? It’s ridiculous, really.

This brings me to my next point which is probably my main point of this review which is WHAT KIND OF RELATIONSHIP WAS THAT!!?!?! You know, I think I could deal with the main character being super, duper freaking annoying if at least, her and the love interest had some sort of chemistry. BUT NO! As I’ve gone over, Henley is very rude and ungrateful to Graeme virtually all the time, and their banter is basically nonexistent. However, what really doesn’t make sense is why Graeme likes Henley. I genuinely do not understand it. It’s bizarre, really, how he talks like he’s loved her for so long like they know each super well (they don’t) and then in the last chapters she basically thinks to herself that she loves him too, although none of her actions have reflected that. I mean, Graeme himself doesn’t have much going for him either. Sure, he’s *nice*. Yet, that’s the thing. If you actually dig deeper into his character, you end up figuring it out that he has no personality as he’s as tasteless as a bland slice of white bread.

To make matters worse, the only thing I was actually looking forward to after reading more than half of the book, aka the sex scene, doesn’t even happen! Look, I’m not saying that just because this is an adult romance there have to be explicit sex scenes, BUT the author makes it seem like there will be. There’s a scene where Henley and Graham are in her room about to do the deed, however, they are interrupted TWICE: once by Nikolai (it was very awkward to read, if you were wondering) and the second time by someone working at the cruise. After they both leave, nothing ends up happening anyway because Henley gets mad at Graeme for reasons I cannot be bothered to try to recall. The thing is there’s another instance when it seemed like maybe there would be a sex scene but then you don’t get to read anything about it. It’s not even fade to black or anything: one of them just suggests something like “oh we have a lot of time since they are alone at Henley’s flat, I think, and then the story moves on. How disappointing was that?

description

Finally, I just have to point this out because it kind of irked me. Basically, one of Henley’s girl friends is in a relationship with another woman and they end up getting pregnant and everything. You might be thinking what the hell is wrong with that? Are you homophobic or something, Susana? And no, of freaking course not. My problem is that it felt so forced like the author was trying to include some sort of diversity in the story to make up for both of her main characters being white cishet people. Especially when you look at the fact that nothing really ends up happening with these two side characters and that I’m pretty sure that it is implied that Nikolai’s travelling buddy is not straight (at least that’s what I got from a conversation he had with Henley). LGBTQ+ people are not here to be tokens for diversity, we’re our own individuals with our own lives and problems to deal with. If you could include a whole subplot about Henley’s stupid boss, you could have made an effort to actually develop the few diverse characters you have in this book, or is that too much to ask?

In summary, this book really ground my gears (if you somehow couldn't tell). I guess that’s what I get for being naive enough to think it could be the perfect combo of two of my favourite novels. My advice is: don’t read it; but if you do, don’t go into thinking it’s going to be a brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never-the-same, totally unique, completely-not-ever-done-before romance. Unless you mean uniquely trashy, then, in that case, you're probably right.

SO F*CKING CUTE. This is exactly what it claims to be, The Unhoneymooners meets The Hating Game. A hate to love romance where they are both up for the same promotion (much like The Hating Game) and they are forced to go on a company cruise together (which feels similar to the honeymoon situation in Unhoneymooners). Henley and Graeme have the best banter, the best chemistry, I was literally giddy the entire time I was reading this and smiling like an idiot. Graeme is my ideal male love interest to read about, he’s smart and funny and really soft on the inside, but he’s quick with his snarky remarks and their relationship is just so damn cute.

This book was so fun, I loved everything about the competitive nature of them both trying to get this job, and I also loved the underlying messages about how women always have to work ten times harder than men for the same benefits and it’s exhausting and unfair.

The only reason I knocked off a half star is because I didn’t LOVE the ending the way I loved the rest of the book - I thought the ending focused a little too much on their jobs and not on the romance, I would’ve like more romance at the end, but despite that one complaint, this is definitely one of my new favorite romance novels I’ve read this year. I literally SHIPPED it so hard, see what I did there? 🤪

this definitely lives up to The Hating Game & The Unhoneymooners comparisons. if you're in the market for something similar, i can't see why you wouldn't enjoy this. i was just hoping for a slightly fresher take on the enemies-to-lovers-in-paradise trope thing.

i also think there could have been a little more focus on the romance and a little less focus on the business side of things. some people will enjoy the details, and i didn't think it was done poorly. just not something i care much about in a romance.

Always a fun time when the worst part of a romance novel is the romance.

Well, okay, that's not fair. There was a lot to dislike about this book. Like the weird flat friendships, or the sister relationship that goes from girl hate to inconsiderate to magically perfect, or the overly simple #girlboss work narrative, or the boring travel narrative.

But all of that had more to not hate than the inexplicable instalove-y romance between two snoozefest characters.

In conclusion, I didn't like this much.

Bottom line: Just read something by Sarah Hogle instead. (My constant advice.)

----------------

i take enemies to lovers and raise you enemies (except not really because one of them has always pined for the other and just doesn't know how to show it) to lovers

When I saw this book was compared to 'The Unhoneymooners' and 'The Hating Game' I was a little nervous. I mean. those are some big shoes to fill. After reading, I've got to say... it's accurate. If The Hating Game (my favorite enemies to lovers romance) and The Unhoneymooners had a love child, Shipped would be it! It was an exceptional enemies to lovers/work place romance that had that destination aspect.

Henley has never met Graeme in person, but she knows she can't stand him. And they're up for the same promotion at work. She works for a travel company and when she finds out she has to take one of their cruises... with Graeme... she doesn't know how to feel. She quickly finds out that Graeme is nothing like she expected him to be.

To get the job of her dreams, she has to have a better idea than Graeme. She has to best him. The problem? The more time she spends with him, the more she realized that he isn't quite the villain she's made him out to be. In fact, he's pretty amazing.

The chemistry and banter between Henley and Graeme- off the charts. Henley was a little headstrong and stubborn, but she had her reasons for being the way she was. Being a woman in her workplace wasn't easy. And Graeme- sigh. What an amazing hero. I couldn't have loved the guy more. He was a true sweetheart and he really liked and respected Hadley and wanted what was best for her.

I cannot believe that this is a debut novel. It's so well written, fun, witty, and was a blast to read. There is nothing I love more than falling head over heels with a new author. This is a book I'll highly recommend to all lovers of romance. Take a chance on Shipped. You won't regret it!

This is a romance/contemporary/chick-lit/women's fiction book. I cannot put into words how much I love this book. This book was so freaking cute and sweet. I love the two main characters Henley Evans and Graeme Crawford-Collins. The romance was so burning. Henley started out the book hating Graeme because of a misunderstanding that happen years ago. Henley and Graeme ended up going over the same promotion, and the ending was the best. I have hear this compared to the Unhoneymooners personally this book was so much better then the unhoneymooners. If you are looking for a slow moving romance book that is to sweet and cute with great characters then this is the book for you. I really love this book so much. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Gallery Books) or author (Angie Hockamn) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

"Life doesn't give you many of these opportunities. My advice? Seize it, mold it, and make it everything you want it to be."

~Rating- 1.75 stars~

Content/ Trigger Warnings-
Ocean/deep water anxiety, Sharks, Abusive relationships (not between main couple), Emotional manipulation (not between main couple), Death of a mother, Emesis

-No mention of these in the review-

Shipped by , is an entertaining read, but one I am very conflicted about. It is marketed as 'The Unhoneymooners meets The Hating Game', and since I have read neither of those books yet (they are on my TBR, don't come at me!) I can't really comment of whether or not its an accurate comparison. However, it is still a fun read and a pretty decent debut novel.

 THE PLOT

“People are the problem. But they can also be the solution.

Henley Rose Evans is a strong- spirited workaholic. She is a rule-follower, list maker, and a perfectionist in everything she does. She's aspiring to get a promotion at work, a promotion she is certain she will get, until her boss shortlists another person- Graeme.

Henley Rose Evans hates Graeme. She has hated him since the moment he took credit for a project she worked on.

"So Graeme got away with it. He got away with swiping the credit and praise right out from under me."

When she finds she will have to work together and go to a week long trip to the Galápagos Islands to promote the sales of her traveling company, she is bitter about the whole prospect. But as Henley gets to know Graeme better, she realises he's not the person she thought he was, and she might have been wrong about him all along.

"No, my name is Henley Rose Evans, and my parents consciously named me after the lead singer and drummer of every boomer’s favorite easy listening band, the Eagles."

The plot of the book was ok. There wasn't really much going on, and I wouldn't personally classify this book as a 'romance'. The romance is minimal, and there isn't much build up for it.

The last 3-4 chs just throw the concept of the book out of the widow, and the main focus of the book, which was supposed to be the relationship, was sidelined. Instead, we have a 'plot twist', which I didn't even predict because it was the kind I just had not expected, nor wanted in a romance book.

I wish there was more attention given to the characters and their banter.

 THE WRITING

The writing was fine for a debut. There were word repetitions I didn't not bother counting, because I have lost patience after seeing this in every book I read. There was an odd sentence about 'molars' I saw repeated constantly, which tugged me a little.

(All page numbers according to my kindle edition, which had 351 pages)

"I clamp my molars until my jaw pops." [Pg 24]

"I grind my molars so hard a tick starts in my jaw." [Pg 166]

"I click my molars." [Pg 194]

"I grind my molars."[Pg 305]

"I stop grinding my molars and take a deep, bracing breath." [Pg 309]

"I grind my molars like an industrial sander." [Pg 324]

Maybe I was the only one who was bothered by this, but it was annoying to see.

 THE CHARARCTERS

The characters of this book are mostly 1 dimensional, though the MC might pass for 2 dimensional. While I liked Henley's perspective, as it is very different from my own, I must say that I found her quite immature.

Graeme, the love interest was very bland. His only personality trait as that he was nice. Literally that is all that is there to him. It's never clear as to why he likes Henley either.

The side-characters were irrelevant, and just faded in the background. They never played any role in the story, and their only purpose was to invoke a reaction from/ help the MC. I would have liked more depth to them.

In short, Shipped isn't a terrible read and I binged in a day. Its the kind that must be read with low expectations and regardless of my low rating, I enjoyed it a bit. I'd recommend you to read my friend Susana's amazing review for a spoiler filled insight. We share similar thoughts.

Reading this feels like dating someone and wondering if he’s actually good or you’re just desperate.

This was such a light fun read that ended up being such a pleasant surprise. I was hesitant about reading this book because of the hating game and the unhoneymooners comparison, two books I really enjoyed. However, it was still so cute. Also, This has the ending I wanted but didn’t get from the ex talk!! which is a bonus!

First of all, the setting was perfect! I loved it. I also really loved the sister’s relationship and the underlying message about how women aren’t treated as equal to men in the work industry and how they always have to work many times harder to prove themselves. I appreciated the ending and how awesome Henley was. How she decided to stand for herself instead of just “accepting it like in the ex talk (yes I’m still salty about that!) and I loved how all her friends stood by her side and helped her like that.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Henley at first, but I started to like her more and she started to show some character growth. I even started to like her competitive overachieving nature. The reason why I didn’t rate this higher is because it was more work focused than romance focused, which wasn’t necessary a bad thing. I just needed more of their romance I think.

What a fun book! I’ve seen this book described many times as THE HATING GAME meets THE UNHONEYMOONERS and I’d have to say that is a very accurate description. A delightful enemies to lovers tale set on the high seas. Henley works for a cruise line in the marketing department. She is a diligent worker and is convinced that an upcoming promotion is hers, after all who has worked harder for this than her? When Henley‘s boss brings up the promotion she is surprised to find out someone else is in the running, and she is furious to find out it is her cocky enemy Graham. To make matters worse now Henley has to go on a cruise with her foe Graham. The thing is as Henley begins to get to know Graham better she realizes he’s nothing like she thought he was. He’s actually kind of a good guy and he’s not too bad to look at either. What’s Henley to do? Follow her heart or her ambition?

A large portion of the story takes place in the gorgeous Galápagos Islands. Loved the part the natural beauty and habitat of this region was featured in the book. I also really appreciated the nod to environmental issues throughout the story. Both Henley and Graham were great characters. But I have to admit it took longer to warm up to Henley than it did Graham. The banter between these two was fabulous and the chemistry was off the charts. There were so many wonderful secondary characters in the story including Henley‘s sister, who I would love to see a future book about. The perfect romcom escape!

This was a cute read, perfect for summer as it takes place on the Galápagos island. I did enjoy the romance but didn't love it and honestly I wanted more of it. I did love that Henley was very ambitious in her career and works hard and it shows.
Overall it was cute but I didn't love it.

Angie Hockman's newest book, Shipped , is a fun, emotional, enemies-to-lovers rom-com which tackled some serious issues along the way.

Rom-com fans, what’s your favorite trope? I’m partial to enemies-to-lovers when there’s a real reason one doesn’t like the other, and I also love friends-to-lovers and fake dating.

Henley (yes, like the shirt) Evans is a list-maker, a goal-setter. She has to be in order to pursue her MBA and succeed in her marketing job for a cruise line. The constant thorn in her side is the company’s social media specialist, Graeme Crawford-Collins, who works remotely but never fails to anger her. They’re constantly battling over email over him getting to the things she asks of him, not to mention the smarmy way he sucks up to their boss.

When Henley finds out she’s being considered for a major promotion, she’s thrilled—and then she finds out her competition is Graeme. They each have to put together a proposal on how to increase bookings for the company's Galapagos cruises—and in order to do that, they both have to go on one of the cruises. Together.

Henley desperately wants this promotion and doesn’t want to lose to Graeme. But the more time she spends with him, she realizes she might have been wrong about him, and he’s never understood why she hates him. Is she working for something that really will make her happy, at the expense of someone who could? Does she even want this job?

Well, you know what’s going to happen. But along the way there’s humor, romance, family issues, steam, and even some exploration of dealing with grief and workplace discrimination. It all adds up to a terrific book, plus I must add the Galapagos to my bucket list of places to visit!!

Shipped is definitely a great rom-com to add to your list!!

Objectively speaking, I feel like Shipped succeeds where other chick-lit romances fail to deliver. So why didn’t I like this story more? I don’t know. 🙃 Will ponder this question when I’m not dying from a heatstroke.

I'm preeeetty biased (since I wrote the book and all, ha!), but I do love SHIPPED. It's the rom-com of my heart, and I'm so excited to introduce readers to Henley and Graeme and the wonders of the Galapagos. I hope folks enjoy reading it as much as I loved writing it!

Sooooooo apparently everyone kind of dug this one?????

Being that I am a geriatric who still doesn’t really understand what the term “ship means, take my reaction with a grain of salt. To be completely honest, while the enemies to lovers trope works okay for me some of the time, I rarely enjoy the fraternization between co-workers (unless it’s The Hating Game - I effing love that one so careful which apples you try to compare your onions to, publicists). And I really don’t enjoy being put in a position as a female where I’m supposed to support every female only to have this girl shoved in my face . . . .

I get that the glass ceiling hasn’t been broken and the world is not fair, but if you never speak up for yourself. Ever. At all. And yet constantly blame others for all of your problems and have an excuse regarding every failure in your life? Well, I’m probably not going to be a fan.

And when presented with your supposed “dream job to become the head of digital marketing for a company against your supposed “nemesis results in pretty much this dramatic reenactment . . . .

Where you once again get butthurt for not being chosen when your “marketing presentation amounted to . . . . .

Asking people who were already on a super exclusive cruise that had to be insanely priced to donate money to charity while they were at dinner. (And why wasn’t money already going to charity???? I mean humans are the reasons we can’t have nice things to begin with and then you work for a company that allows people to go to places like Antarctica or the Galapagos and said company isn’t already spending a shitton on eco-warrior types of organizations???? Yuck.)

And then when you lose out on the job because, let's face it, that idea was pretty much shit, you decide to REBRAND. THE. ENTIRE. G.D. COMPANY. Oh my god that is soooooooo stupid. Not only was that NOT your assignment, dumbass, but do you have any idea how much research and money it takes before a company makes a ginormo change like that? It's not willy-nilly FFS and you are a terrible employee, P.S.

Oh and then. AND. THEN. this random sister is thrown in and you ask her to go on your work assignment with you and I can’t figure out why the eff she’s a character and this is a thing only to find out toward the end of the book that she’s been added to the mix in order to introduce a “how to recognize if you are in an abusive relationship scene . . . .

This one did not work for me at all. The good news is, I don’t suck a turtle this time I suck a tortoise ; )

almost gave this a four star rating, but a book with graeme crawford-collins deserves five.
🥲⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
and also, that ending!!!

this book was such a fun summer read! i loved the cast of characters, the character development, the enemies to lovers trope, the chaos, the swoon-worthy moments, and the wildlife. the author’s passion for the galápagos islands shines through henley’s story. 🐢🌊🌸🐞🦩☀

and i’m convinced graeme is the cedric diggory of the muggle world. he was so kind, thoughtful, and full of integrity. he’s definitely one of my new favorite male fictional characters!
and nikolai was such a great side character! he was so goofy in the very best way. i adored him and his crazy dance moves.
and a special shoutout to winnie and noodles. i absolutely adored them too. 🐕🐈

Henley Evans is Marketing Manager of North & Central America for a cruise line called Sea Quest Adventures. Graeme Crawford-Collins is a newbie who rises to the top of the company in the blink of an eye.

The relationship between the co-workers starts off over banter by email when Graeme is slacking on the job. He’s the Social Media Manager who hasn’t posted a thing on time since he’s started and over-achiever Henley wants him to do everything NOW. In fact, he doesn’t even have any accounts of his own—no Facebook, no Instagram, no Twitter...say what? How could he possibly know what he’s doing?

Henley produces a show called “Puget Sounds for a few years but in the most recent staff meeting her boss determined that it’s no longer relevant nor a major moneymaker for the company, so he’s letting it go. Not only that but if Henley and Graeme both want to keep their jobs someone needs to come up with an idea for a new show and fast! This is when Henley speaks up, but before she knows it her idea gets twisted and their is no turning back.

I nearly melted. His voice was deep and rich and husky like a lumberjack dipped in a chocolate fountain. Then we started working together and it wasn’t two weeks before Graeme, the rotten troll, showed his true colors.

Now she and this troll are Co-Stars and competing for the same promotion that Henley has been working her butt off for long before HE showed up. Part of the promotion entails going on a cruise to Galapagos together??!!??!! What has Henley gotten herself into now?

She runs to her sister Walsh for advice but she is a curvy, happy; quirky little bombshell that Henley has never been able to complete with. Some girls just have it easy, have that natural beauty and she’s low key jealous of her ease of attracting the opposite sex. Walsh doesn’t have men troubles—or so it seems.

But, in a strange twist of events, It isn’t long before Henley is asking herself things like...

“What would the stubble on his jaw feel like against my cheek?

“What do his lips taste like?

She needs to get off of this ship before she blows the one chance that she’s got to prove to her father that she’s made it! She won’t let some boy toy leave her weak in the knees....or will she?

Shipped is a super cute enemies-to-lovers workplace romance that gets steamy in all the right places!

This book was cute but I wasn’t IN LOVE with it. I wish that there was MORE focus on the budding relationship of the main characters versus other topics/characters.

Im not sure if this book was promoted as a “rom-com but if so I didn’t laugh very much. If it was referenced as “romance I needed more steamy and less cutesy. The flirty parts seemed a little forced and corny for me too.

But I did enjoy reading it and I could easily envision this becoming a movie. I also thoroughly enjoyed the research that was mentioned in the Author’s Note.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up to 4 ⭐️ for ŷ.

With a beach as the backdrop, this was an entertaining and colorful read. And, this book was so so much more than a typical rom-com. While Henley and Graeme made a nice pair, it's not the only focal point of the book. I loved that they were so passionate, kind, and hard-working. However, I feel that the romance suffered just a tiny bit towards the end since the focus shifted towards the workplace dynamic. But, even that was great because it brought up a lot of points that need more vocal representation - the sexism in the corporate world, the imposter syndrome that a lot of women go through as a result of the former, and a whole lot of the environmental changes that can have long-lasting effects to maintain sustainability. Even though the latest is only talked about briefly in the story, I know it seems like a monotonous drone when I say this, but the way it's touched upon in the book makes it worth reading.

To touch upon the characters, I feel like Henley had the best character growth, probably because she needed it the most since the start - I liked that she finally strived to find a work-life balance and the way Graeme helped her through it and supported her all throughout the book made me so happy :')

Henley is up for an office promotion when she learns that her rival Graham is the other person up for the same spot. She works in Seattle. Graham works remotely in Michigan. Their boss decides to send them on a cruise to the Galapagos so they can work up separate social media campaigns to promote this cruise for the company. The winner gets the promotion.

This debut is getting compared a lot to THE HATING GAME and THE UNHONEYMOONERS and I definitely felt a similar vibe while reading SHIPPED! I loved the snarky voice. Henley and Graham have never met in person before the cruise, and in fact have barely even talked, so it doesn’t *quite* have the same arch-nemesis feel of THG. But I liked the dynamic between Henley and her slightly flakey younger sister, the secondary characters were fun, and sometimes you just want a light beach read, so I found myself kicking back and enjoying this one. I like books that take me on a trip somewhere and getting to go to the Galapagos with a fun romance was a nice escape read.

This book is marketed as The UnhoneymoonersmeetsThe Hating Game, and never has a comparison been more accurate. This book is exactly what happens if those two books got together and had a child. Unfortunately, the child just didn't live up to the greatness of its parents.

Still, it was a generally good read.

This is a funny story that took me on a cruise to the Galápagos Islands 🦩.

Henley is trying to climb the corporate ladder and relies on task lists to get everything. When the position of Director of Digital Marketing is available, Henley expects she's earned the position ... only to find out she and Graeme both candidates. As if that's not bad enough news, both will be sent on a cruise to the Galápagos, to experience a Seaquest Adventures cruise first-hand. Obviously, Henley has no option but to update her task list with a new high priority item:
Task #1: Defeat Graeme Crawford-Collins

What a fun enemies-to-lovers story! Graeme was witty and charming. Henley is so focused on the promotion at stake she avoids fun. Together on a cruise, they drive each other crazy. Between the passengers onboard and the funny situations they end up in, this is definitely a cruise they'll both remember.

Aside from the relationship aspect of the story, I also enjoyed the detailed descriptions of the islands visited during the cruise. With such vivid descriptions about the scenery and animals, how could I not feel like I went to the Galápagos Islands too? I used the Kindle edition and audiobook. I'd recommend either, but the narration on the audiobook is fantastic.

“It’s amazin how a first impression of someone can completely change once you get to know them.

•. *

gosh, where do I even start with this review? to put it simply, this book highly exceeded my expectations and I very thoroughly enjoyed this book. if you like rom-coms and haven't read this yet, what are you doing!?! drop everything now!

this book was just so cute and summery, and the plot was top-tier. workplace romance? rivals? enemies? setting is on a cruise ship/islands? social media marketing? (one of my dream jobs) SIGN ME UP. I have no clue how I didn't read this sooner, I didn't even read the blurb before I started the audiobook. but ugh. i'm so glad I did !!

don't even get me started on graeme. OHMYGOSH. the voice actor for graeme was DIVINE. think aaron blackford? and you're close.

Graeme Cracker_Collins: To the woman who inspired me to rejoin the world, “thank you will never be enough.

CRYING. graeme deserves the entire world, no jokes. I love a book that can have an incredible romance plot but also a deeper struggle also tucked in there. my heart hurts for graeme, and reading about him coming out of his shell after grieving for his mother broke me.

“How do you feel about me?

Usually? Irritation and an extreme urge to shove a whipped-cream pie in your face. But also, desperation. Desire. And, fuck, I want to kiss you.

SCREAMING. just imagine sitting in the car with your family and you listen to those words and have to act like you're not losing your absolute shit mentally. because that was me. I'm not getting over this, ever.

“He’s definitely threatened by Henley, says Tory, her normally cheery voice flattening. Christina nods emphatically. “When it comes to smart, ambitious women, mediocre men usually are, says Michelle.

okay, if you haven't yet added this to your tbr; this HAS to convince you. henley is the definition of a girl boss. she's so likable, and she always goes for what she wants. she makes sure everyone know she's not here to play around. also the feminist aspects to this?? chefs kiss.

“But you didn’t say please. “You want me to beg? I flash him a wide, innocent grin. “Only if you’re on your knees.

FREAKING OUT. I'm obsessed with these two. they r just so perfect together and I just can't get enough.

if this hasn't convinced you to read this book, and you like rom-coms. I've failed. this book is so so cute. and I desperately want to go snorkeling & be on a cruise ship right now.

What to expect:
 Adult Contemporary
 Rom-Com
 Enemies-to-lovers on a cruise
 Catchy read

When I started this one I had no expectations. I’ve seen this one on bookstagram a lot so I said: let’s give it a go! I expected it to be like most of the other romances, basic and the kind of book you pick up to "pass the time", and by the end of it I was surprised how much I liked it.
It was such a great book! Cute, funny and the romance was on point.
Also, it’s obvious there’s been a lot of research done about the Galápagos Islands and I ended up adding it to my destination list.
I loved the characters, the hate-love relationship those two had was perfect! I’m not gonna lie, I didn’t really care about side character’s stories, but I can’t say it bothered me that much either.

I totally recommend reading this one if you love romance books!

This book didn't start on the right foot. I just want to tell publishers to be careful when comparing a book to the Hating Game, because it can do things to draw direct comparisons. I am not going to spend time there, though I am happy at some point to discuss. I will start with this book for its own merits.

The heroine (told in first-person POV), Henley, is in marketing. There's a lot of details around her job. Most of them come in the form of a choppy inventoried style. "I got up, dressed for work in x,y,and z, did my mascara, put on my purple lipstick. Then I sat down and peed and flushed the toilet" (This isn't a direct quote, but how I felt reading it.) I love details. However, details should serve the story, setting, emotion in some way or they are extraneous. This book needed a heavier hand in editing, and in the end, is really only a novella without the banal inner workings and cataloging of thoughts and actions of Henley.

Then there's the characters themselves. Henley isn't just prickly. She defensive and unlikable without clear cut motivations. She seemed pretty petty and mean, in my opinion. At one point, in the first chapter, we meet her neighbors: she can never remember which is which-Sophie and Sophia-but then is irritated her neighbor calls her "Hannah."

Henley is going for a promotion that at various times she was made for, not excited about, knew she was going to get, and quickly finds out her competition will be Michigan-based (she's in Seattle) work from home nemesis Graeme. Once she finds out he'll be competing she believes she has no chance due to the good ol' boys-her boss favors Graeme-yet a chapter later she is making plans about her increased paycheck.

Graeme and Henley got off on the wrong foot because he didn't mention he was on the phone in her boss's office at one point, and he seemed to take credit for her work. Since then he's maintained their boss's favor. Then end up on a cruise together, and she's consistently aggressive toward him. It's so painfully obvious he's a decent person, who really seems to like her for some unknown (at this point) reason. Even she thinks that. So motivations are lacking and all I can think "oh, she's just not likely to be a great person." Over and over again-again the narrative style is essentially being blasted with details that are not adding to the story-she tells us "oh that was pretty nice of him," all while continuing to attempt to hate him.

Which brings me to another thing. There's a not perfect gentleman on a cruise with his older friend who has taken to Henley, who is traveling at this point with her sister Walsh, who she's awful to. Her inner thoughts about Nikolai are atrocious. Not because she's not wanting to get hit on, but because he's unattractive so everything he does is also unattractive.

Throughout the cruise, Henley and Graeme are preparing their presentations. There's some weak elements here in that I don't know how to care if Henley gets the job since Graeme seems to really want it-and Henley just thinks she deserves it. Therefore, this does not create any level of tension for the plot of the story. Nonetheless, they have shared experiences, but it doesn't seem to progress their relationship in an organic way. More like the author wanted them to do something romantic together. In all this mess, Walsh begins hitting on Graeme, and Henley is also kind of horrible to her sister. But there's the secondary plots that come out of nowhere, and get resolved just as quickly that I have to think they are there to manipulate our feelings. And the workplace piece?

I'm not touching it. I have to say that this is why I sometimes struggle with contemporaries. It all had to wrap up too neatly for HEA. I thought the challenges were real, I've been there, I just thought the solution lacked a bit of awareness.

Ultimately, I could see some promise. With heavier editing and more focus, maybe this would have sung. I don't know. Without the proper touch, enemies-to-lovers can sure feel juvenile. The conflict and motivations were unconvincing, and so was the narrative. Ultimately, a disappointment.

Onward to my next arc with water-based cover and title.

Henley Evans is a marketing manager for SeaQuest, a Seattle-based cruise line. She’s smart, talented and creative but is stagnating in her job. When an opportunity arises for a promotion where she’s considered the leading candidate, her excitement is dashed when she learns that Graeme Crawford-Collins, the man who manages their social media remotely from Michigan is her chief competition. Henley had a distasteful experience with him in the past and resents that he’s even a contender. Things get even more uncomfortable when as part of the evaluation, they’re both sent on a cruise together to the Galápagos Islands where each is tasked with developing a proposal to increase the profitability of that excursion.

I was in the mood for something light and entertaining and thought this sounded like the perfect story. I actually got quite a bit more substance than I bargained for as the issues Henley had to deal with on the job brought back memories of my own. Struggling to be heard in a male-dominated environment, second guessing myself when my ideas were the best being offered and being forced to compete with lesser candidates because of my gender. Henley’s reactions were so authentic and I loved her network of professional women who were not only supportive but gave sound advice.

Now to the romance. Graeme was absolutely wonderful, not even close to the man Henley thought him to be (thank goodness). His patience with her was borne from a deep-seated admiration that had grown through their professional interactions. Their developing relationship during the cruise was well crafted, even if she was immature and annoying at times. The supporting characters were substantive and interesting (Nikolai was a riot!), rounding out the story. The ending, though, was the stuff dreams are made of, which satisfied me just fine. I ended up loving the narrator after initially thinking she sounded too young. Her voice for Graeme was superb and she nailed the others, making this an enjoyable listening experience. Lastly, but just as importantly, the descriptions of the Galápagos Islands were expertly researched and set my imagination on fire, easily transporting me to that locale. Some books show up at just the right time and that’s the way this worked for me.
