Ray was born in the city of Calcutta into a Bengali family prominent in the world of arts and literature. Starting his career as a commercial artist, Ray was drawn into independent filmmaking after meeting French filmmaker Jean Renoir and watching Vittorio De Sica's Italian neorealist 1948 film, Bicycle Thieves.
Ray directed 36 films, including feature films, documentaries and shorts. He was also a fiction writer, publisher, illustrator, calligrapher, graphic designer and film critic. He authored several short stories and novels, primarily aimed at children and adolescents.
Ray's first film, Pather Panchali (1955), won eleven international prizes, including Best Human Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival. This film, Aparajito (1956) and Apur Sansar (1959) form The Apu Trilogy. Ray did the scripting, casting, scoring, and editing, and designed his own credit titles and publicity material. The Government of India honoured him with the Bharat Ratna in 1992.

Ray's grandfather, Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury was a writer, illustrator, philosopher, publisher, amateur astronomer and a leader of the Brahmo Samaj, a religious and social movement in nineteenth century Bengal. Sukumar Ray, Upendrakishore's son and father of Satyajit, was a pioneering Bengali author and poet of nonsense rhyme and children's literature, an illustrator and a critic. Ray was born to Sukumar and Suprabha Ray in Calcutta.
Ray completed his B.A. (Hons.) in Economics at Presidency College of the University of Calcutta, though his interest was always in Fine Arts. In 1940, he went to study in Santiniketan where Ray came to appreciate Oriental Art. In 1949, Ray married Bijoya Das and the couple had a son, Sandip ray, who is now a famous film director.
Literary Works:
Ray created two of the most famous fictional characters ever in Bengali children's literature—Feluda, a sleuth in Holmesian tradition, and Professor Shonku, a genius scientist. Ray also wrote many short stories mostly centered on Macabre, Thriller and Paranormal which were published as collections of 12 stories. Ray wrote an autobiography about his childhood years, Jakhan Choto Chilam (1982). He also wrote essays on film, published as the collections: Our Films, Their Films (1976), Bishoy Chalachchitra (1976), and Ekei Bole Shooting (1979).

বিশ্বসাহিত্য কেন্দ্রে বস� এট� পড়ছি।
খু� মন খারা� নিয়� বিকালে এক� এক� গেছিলা� বই জম� দিতে পর� মন� হল� বই জম� দিয়� এত সকাল সকাল চল� না এস� একটা বই পড়ে যাই। এরকম যতদি� হয়েছে আম� সবসময় সত্যজি� রায়ের কো� বই পড়ে আসি। ওদের শেলফ ভর্ত� ফেলুদা, প্রফেস� শঙ্কু। বইয়ের মলাট গুলো � কি চমৎকার *_*
পর� জটায়ু� কীর্তিকলাপ পড়ে কি যে কষ্ট� হাসি চেপে রাখছ� তা আর কি বল�!!! XD
আমার হাসি দেখে পাশে� টেবিলে বস� এক আঙ্কেল বই থেকে মু� তুলে এম� ভাবে তাকালো মন� হল� নির্ঘা� আম� পাগো� হয়ে গেছি! :'3

বরাবরে� প্রিয় গল্প� এই একটি ফেলুদা কাহিনীতে ফিল্মমেকার সত্যজি� রায়ের বহিঃপ্রকাশ সব থেকে বেশি� শুরু� দিকে ফেলু মিত্তিরে� সিনেমা� গপ্প� লেখা� গপ্পোটাও ভারী মজাদার�
এক তারা কম কারণ বোম্বাইয়ে� মত� একটি ভীষণ জলজ্যান্� শহ� এই গল্প� যে� থেকে� স্তিমিত। সাকুল্যে ওই কপার চিমন�, হোটে� তা� � এক চিলত� সমুদ্রতট� মানসভ্রমনে কোথা� যে� ঘাটত� থেকে যায়� সেটা� যা আফসোস।
তব� 'জে� বাহাদু�' এর অবস্থা যেমনটা� হো� না কেন। আসলি বোম্বাইয়ে� বোম্বেটে পড়ে আর যা� হো�, আপনাকে কোডোপাইরিন খেতে হব� না�

পছন্দে� একটা গল্প� মুম্বা� সম্পর্কে একটা ভালো ধারণ� গড়ে উঠ�, মানে ভ্রম� বিষয়ক� এদিক� যতবারই পড়ি, ততবারই কল্লোলের কড়া পা� দেয়� সন্দেশ ডায়মন্ড� খাওয়া� জন্য প্রা� আঁইঢাই কর�!

জটায়ু� খ্যাতি এখ� কলকাতা ছাড়িয়ে বোম্বাইয়ে গিয়� ঠেকেছে� জটায়ু� এক বই এর কাহিনী নিয়� সিনেমা বানোনো হব� বোম্বায়ে। মুভি� কা� দেখত� জটায়ুকে দাওয়া� দেওয়া হয়। ফেলুদা এব� তোপসের হাতে কা� না থাকায় এক� সাথে রওনা দেয় তারা� কিন্তু কথায� আছ� ঢেকি স্বর্গ� গেলে� ধা� ভানে, এক� ঘটনা ঘট� ফেলুদা� সাথে� বোম্বায়� পৌছে� ঘটনাক্রম� জড়িয়� যায় স্মাগলিং আর খুনে� কেসে� সাথে� সন্দেহের তী� এস� পর� বেচারা জটায়ু� দিকে� শেষে অবশ্� হালক� ক্লাইমাক্স আছে।

The fun of a straightforward simple mystery is under rated. I got started on this book after reading Satyajit Ray's Childhood days and I understood why his scriptwriting and books are oriented in detail.
In this simple mystery, Feluda along with Topshe and Jatayu are in Bombay after Jatayu's latest book is bought by a film production house. Feluda could not stop making sly comments about Bombay Vs Bengali movies - a commentary Mr.Ray wouldn't make in public. Since the story itself is set in a film shooting - there are multiple elements which he details out - like the stunt sequence or the site selection or the stunt men.
The murder of course and the final scooby doo type unmasking of the villain were nostalgic of the earlier mysteries which were less complex.
A quick fast read.

রহস্� গল্প লেখক জটায়ু ওরফে লালমোহ� গাঙ্গুলী� খ্যাতি এখ� কলকাতা ছাড়িয়ে বোম্বাইতেও পৌছে গেছে� ওনার একটা গল্পের ওপ� ছব� হব�, তা� জন্য� থ্রি মাস্কোটিয়ার� এবার বোম্বাইতে। তব� ফেলুদা কোথা� যাবে� আর সেখানে কো� রহস্যে� সাথে মোকাবেলা হব� না তা তো সম্ভ� না� এবার তারা জড়িয়� যা� চোরাকারবারিদের সাথে� জটায়ুকে দেখা হয� সন্দেহের চোখে� বোম্বাইত� পৌছানো� পর প্রোডিউসারের বাড়ির লিফট� একটা খু� হয়। ডেথবডি� পাশে পাওয়া যায় একটা কাগজ, তাতে জটায়ু� না�-ধা� লেখা� গল্পের শেষে ছোট্� একটা ক্লাইম্যাক্স � ছিল। জটায়ু� কার্যকলাপে হেসেছি বে�!

A decent mystery thriller set in Mumbai nee Bombay, with Felu, Topshe and Jatayu clashing with the organised crime syndicate! The movie version made by Sandip Ray is good too!

সে� ছোট্টবেলায� পড়া।সানডে সাসপেন্সের কল্যাণ� আবার শুনে নিলাম।
সত্য� কথ� বলতে কি,সানড� সাসপেন্সের ফেলুদা শোনা� মজ�,ফেলুদা পড়া� মজাকেও ছাপিয়� যায়�
সে� ছোট্টবেলায� পড়া।সানডে সাসপেন্সের কল্যাণ� আবার শুনে নিলাম।
সত্য� কথ� বলতে কি,সানড� সাসপেন্সের ফেলুদা শোনা� মজ�,ফেলুদা পড়া� মজাকেও ছাপিয়� যায়�

আমার স্মৃতিশক্ত� খুবই খারাপ। মা হাতে টাকা দিয়� ৩ট� জিনি� কিনত� দোকানে পাঠালে দুটো কিনে আরেকটা� কথ� ভুলে যেতাম। সে� আমার বোম্বাইয়ে� বোম্বেটে� প্রথ� � অধ্যায� পর্যন্� একটা সময় দাঁড়ি কম� সুদ্ধু মুখস্ত ছিল। মুখস্ত করার কো� উদ্দেশ্য ছি� না, কতবা� পড়েছিলা� তাঁর একটা ধারণ� পাওয়া যাবে এই তথ্য দিয়ে। স্কুলে থাকল� এইগুলোতে� ডুবে থাকতাম� কাহিনি আর লেখা অদ্ভুত ভা� ছিল। একবারে পড়ে উঠতে হয�, আর বারবার পড়া যায়�

ইচ্ছ� ছি� সব গুলো গল্পের সারাংশ লিখব� কিন্তু আলসেমি খু� পেয়� বসেছে। সময় টা� তেমন অ্যালা� করছে না� সংকল্পের তা� আপাত� ইতি। কো� গল্প খু� ভা� লাগল� লিখব� কিনত সমস্যা হল সব কয়ট� গল্প� পড়ত� পড়ত� মন� হয� খু� ভাল। এই কন্সিডারেশনটাও তা� আর ধোপে টিকব� বল� মন� হয� না� আচ্ছ� দেখি�

I read this one back in school and, although after thr Golden Fortress, this seemed like a let down, it was quite good, nevertheless. By now Lalmohan Babu and Feluda's friendship has grown and there's natural chemistry among the 3 protagonists.

Reading Satyajit Ray's stories makes me wonder about the writer's skill of storytelling - from the beginning to end gripping, wondering about the suspense.

রেডি� মিরচিত� শুনছিলাম বোম্বাইয়ে� বোম্বেটে� সব্যসাচী� গলায� ফেলুদা বরাবরই চমকপ্রদ। আর পরানদা� গলায� 'লালু' ডাকটা। বোম্বাইয়ে� তাজমহল হোটে�, গেটওয়� অফ ইন্ডিয়া, খান্ডালা, কুংফ� ক্যারাতে, ডাকা� দল � রেলগাড়ি নিয়� শুটি� দৃশ্�- পুরো টানটান উত্তেজনা- জম� ক্ষী�!

It was, just like other stories in the series, an entertaining read. The story seemed to move at a slower pace till the second last chapter. Last two chapters stole the show, picked up the pace and met the expectations of readers from adventures of Feluda.

লালমোহনবাবুর বই এর অনুসার� একটি ছব� হব� মুম্বা� এ। সে� সুবাদে ফেলুদাদে� বোম্বেতে ভ্রমণ। ভ্রমণে� আগ� মি স্যানা� একটি বই এর প্যাকে� দিয়� যায় লালমোহনবাবুকে। সে� প্যাকে� বোম্বেতে একজন এর কাছে জম� দিতে হবে। লালমোহনবাব� যাকে সে� প্যাকে� জম� দেয় তাকে কিছুটা সন্দেহ হওয়ায� ফেলুদা তা� পিছা করে। সে� লো� 'শিবাজি ক্যাসে�" � আসে। সেখানে� ১৭ নং ফ্লোরে যায়� সেদি� হোটেলে চল� আসার পর ফেলুদারা জানত� পারে যে সে� শিবাজি ক্যাসে� এর লিফট� খু� হয� সেখানে লালমোহনবাবুর না� পাওয়া যায়� সে� লো� যে কিনা প্যাকেটট� নিয়� গিয়েছিল� সে � কা� করেছ� বল� ফেলুদা ধারণ� করে। লালমোহনবাবুর প্রোডিউসার গোরে� সাথে� ফেলুদাদে� দেখা হয়। তা� কা� থেকে টাকা নিতে যায় লালমোহনবাবু। পর� দেখা যায় যে লালমোহনবাব� সে� লোকক� আস� প্যাকে� দেননি। ভুলে অন্য প্যাকে� দিয়� দিসে� তা� লালমোহনবাব� একটু যেনো হা� ছেড়� বাচলো। পরেরদি� ফিল্মে� শুটি� হচ্ছে। ট্রেনে� একটা শুট। ফেলুদাদে� ফার্স্টক্লাস সিটে বসায� দেয়� হইসে� সে কামড়ায় উঠ� পড়ে মি স্যানা� � হাতে বন্দুক� ফেলুদাদে� সে� বই দিতে বলে। সে� বই এর পৃষ্ঠা ছিড়� স্যানা� আস� জিনি� পায় না� আসলে ফেলুদা সে� জিনি�(হীরা) সরিয়ে ফেলেছিলো রাতেই। এই দেরী হওয়াত� শুটি� এর স্টান্টম্যান ভিক্টর চল� আসে। ফেলুদাদে� রেস্কি� করে। ট্রে� থেমে যায়, পুলি� এস� স্যানালক� ধরে। আসলে স্যানা� হল� প্রোডিউসার গোরে� ছদ্মবেশে স্মাগলিং করে।

অর্ধেক রেটি� দেয়ার ফিচারট� গুডরিডসে না থাকাটা খুবই বিরক্তিকর। অনেকবা� � বা � দিতে হয়েছে যেখানে ইচ্ছ� ছি� সাড়� চা� দেয়ার�
যা� হো�, ফেলুদা এবছরের আগ� কখনো না পড়লেও বে� কিছু গল্পের না� অনেক শুনেছি� বোম্বাইয়ে� বোম্বেটে নামট� অনেক ছোটবেলাতেই শুনেছি� যারা ফেলুদা� ভক্ত তাদে� কাছে এর অনেক সুনামও শুনেছি� আমার খু� বেশি ভা� লাগেনি� এক� ব্যাপা� সোনা� কেল্লা� ব্যাপারে� হয়েছিল।
পুরো গল্প জুড়েই একটা চাপা উত্তেজনা ছি� কিন্তু তা� তেমন জমেন� আমার কাছে মন� হয়েছে� হ্যা�, ক্লাইমেক্সটা বে� ভা� কিন্তু এছাড়া তেমন একটা ভা� লাগেনি� প্রত� অধ্যায়ে� অপেক্ষ� করছিলা� যে এই বুঝি জমবে, কিন্তু তেমন জমেনি। চরিত্রদেরকেও তেমন বিপদ� পড়ে গেছে এমনট� মন� হয়ন� ওই ক্লাইমেক্স ছাড়া।
বে� অবাক হলাম যে আগের বইগুলো� মত এখান� মুম্বাইয়ে� তেমন বর্ণনা দেনন� সত্যজি�, কিছুটা দিয়েই শেষ। তোপসেও আর তেমন কাজে আসছে না� আগের গল্পগুলোতে � ছোটখাট� একটা সহকারী� ভূমিকা নি�, এখান� সে নিতান্তই দর্শক। � বর্ণনাকারী না হল� ওক� এই গল্প� না নিলে� চলত। � বই পড়ে সম্পূর্ণ হতাশ হইনি অবশ্যই, তব� আশাহ� হয়েছি কিছুটা�

যা� হো�, ফেলুদা এবছরের আগ� কখনো না পড়লেও বে� কিছু গল্পের না� অনেক শুনেছি� বোম্বাইয়ে� বোম্বেটে নামট� অনেক ছোটবেলাতেই শুনেছি� যারা ফেলুদা� ভক্ত তাদে� কাছে এর অনেক সুনামও শুনেছি� আমার খু� বেশি ভা� লাগেনি� এক� ব্যাপা� সোনা� কেল্লা� ব্যাপারে� হয়েছিল।
পুরো গল্প জুড়েই একটা চাপা উত্তেজনা ছি� কিন্তু তা� তেমন জমেন� আমার কাছে মন� হয়েছে� হ্যা�, ক্লাইমেক্সটা বে� ভা� কিন্তু এছাড়া তেমন একটা ভা� লাগেনি� প্রত� অধ্যায়ে� অপেক্ষ� করছিলা� যে এই বুঝি জমবে, কিন্তু তেমন জমেনি। চরিত্রদেরকেও তেমন বিপদ� পড়ে গেছে এমনট� মন� হয়ন� ওই ক্লাইমেক্স ছাড়া।
বে� অবাক হলাম যে আগের বইগুলো� মত এখান� মুম্বাইয়ে� তেমন বর্ণনা দেনন� সত্যজি�, কিছুটা দিয়েই শেষ। তোপসেও আর তেমন কাজে আসছে না� আগের গল্পগুলোতে � ছোটখাট� একটা সহকারী� ভূমিকা নি�, এখান� সে নিতান্তই দর্শক। � বর্ণনাকারী না হল� ওক� এই গল্প� না নিলে� চলত। � বই পড়ে সম্পূর্ণ হতাশ হইনি অবশ্যই, তব� আশাহ� হয়েছি কিছুটা�

ফেলুদা� বইতে ভালো ভালো জায়গা� সাথে এত সুন্দর কর� বর্ণনা থাকে যে� জায়গা গুলো চোখে� সামন� ফুটে ওঠে। কিন্তু এই বইতে বোম্বাইয়ে� মত� এরকম ঝা� চকচক� শহরটাক� ম্লা� ভাবে দেখানো হয়েছে,শুধু বিশে� কত� জায়গা� না� উল্লেখ কর� ছেড়� দিয়েছেন, কে�? Why ??

It's okay. Nothing much to write to home about. The story wasn't great or deep and translation was plain. I'm guessing the ingenuousness of the translation was, maybe, because this work aimed at much younger audience since this is unlike the volume 'The Collected Short Stories by Satyajit Ray' which had great stories from diverse genres and each of them having a lot of depth for their length, and the translation was indeed quite competent, which I am guessing were done by the same person.

ইদের দি�, মাঠে� নামা� শে�, নাস্তা� শে�, আকাশ টা� মে� কর� ছি� কিন্তু বৃষ্টি হয়নি। এইতো ২০ টা বছ� আগেও এই সময় বিটিভি খুলে ইদের নাটক দেখা শুরু করতাম। এখ� চ্যানে� এর অভাব না�, কন্টেন্ট এর অভাব না�, কিন্তু মন� টেকেনা কিছুই। আমার তো মন� হয� আজ থেকে ২০ বছ� পর� স্মৃতিচারণের� কিছু থাকবেনা। তা� আর আগেপিছ� না ভেবে শেল্� থেকে ফেলুদা সমগ্রট� হাতে নিয়েই "বোম্বাইয়ে� বোম্বেটে" পড়া শুরু করলাম। এর সিনেমাটা� আগ� হাজারবার দেখা হয়েছে, গল্পটা� পড়া �-� বার। কিন্তু যতবারই পড়ি নতুন লাগে� ফেলুদা একটা ইমোশ� এর নাম। সময়টা ভালো কেটেছে�

Pensaba que era un libro de aventuras con ese título, pero son cuatro novelettes de inspiración holmesiana, aunque emplazadas en la India (la primera en Rajastán, la segunda, que da nombre al libro, en Bombay, y las dos últimas en Calcuta, de donde provienen los personajes). Para mayor similitud con Holmes, estas historias solían aparecer en una revista juvenil y las redacta su subalterno, un primo adolescente del detective. Entretenidas, que no es poca cosa.
