A planet at war. Two alphas forced into a political marriage. Attraction that defies all reason and logic Or does it?

The Kingdom of Pelugia and the Republic of Kadar have been at war for decades. Peace isn’t popular, but the planet can’t survive without it.

Forced to marry an enemy prince for the sake of peace, Senator Royce Cleghorn doesn’t like his husband, his alpha scent, or his damned pretty blue eyes. More than anything, Royce hates what Haydn makes him become: a primitive alpha cliché who’ll do anything to mark his territory, even if that territory is his alpha husband. Royce likes omegas; he isn’t into alphas, no matter how pretty their eyes are. It’s just a weird territorial instinct. It has to be.

Prince Haydn has always tried to be the perfect alpha his father wants him to be. He's the heir to the throne. He's a war general. He isn't supposed to bare his throat to an enemy alpha—and it isn't supposed to feel so good. Everyone knows a marriage between two alphas is a recipe for disaster. He isn't supposed to crave his husband—their marriage is just a political arrangement, nothing more.

But when disaster strikes and loyalties are tested, which bond will be the strongest: their marriage, or their allegiances?

This book is set in an omegaverse world similar to contemporary Earth, and it contains explicit content, mating cycles, scenting, knotting, and two men obsessed with each other. While mpreg exists in this world, it’s only mentioned and doesn’t appear on-page.

Third re-read: 29.07.2021:
This re-read does not count. Why? I had to take my migraine medicine and it makes me tired as fuck and hard to concentrate. So I was skimming more than I wanted and the words kinda mixed together and I simply couldn't focus. That said, I had decided to re-read it simply because I remember every single thing about it and if I missed something in the re-read it wouldn't matter so much.

Second re-read: 16.04.2021:
Umm, don't look at me like that. I know it just been a month since I've re-read it but.... Alessandra Hazard 's books are addictive. I can't help it, even though there's things that bother me in the books. I just need to re-read them all the damn time.

Re-read: 23.03.2021:
I'm glad I still enjoy this book and as it has been almost always with this author's book, I think I preferred the second time reading it as I was prepared for what the book involved. That said, I wish we had gotten more depth even though you still got plenty. I just always want more from Alessandra Hazard 's books. It's never enough; hench why I keep re-reading :P

Review after read:
I knew immediately who would be the alpha in the relationship. Immediately. And it bothered me a bit. Haydn submitted too fast for Royce for my taste. And no this is not a spoiler as it happens early on. Then the book was quite predictable. I knew the second the entered the picture what the outcome was. Then I didn't like that we didn't get to see Haydn in his element: as a war general. We only saw him beside Royce. That being said, it was still an enjoyable read with interesting character but it was a very small side character that was my favorite: Ksar. You know, from Calluvia's Royalty series. Stranger how in every book where Ksar is in he's pretty much my favorite character, yet in his own book, I didn't like the story. Overall, I like the book, it had much potential, but at the same time I had expected much more frustration, depth, anger, fighting as there was supposed to be alpha-alpha romance, yet it didn't feel like it. I was let down in a way. I also which there was a more animalistic feeling to the characters, or their relationship.

The book is about a senator pretending to be a beta and an alpha prince having to enter an arranged marring in order to continue to be a part of the Union, as The Galactic Council have decided that the ‘barbaric civil war on Eila planet between Pelugia and the Republic of Kadar - that has been at war all Haydn's life-, has to end, and they only want one Lord Chancellor to represent their planet (not two). If they don’t do as they say, the Galactic Council will revoke their membership in the Union of Planets, and they’ll lose access to the TNIT network, and most importantly, lose the protection they have as a member of the Union. They will be fair game for any pirate coalition out there. The Kadarian Prime Minister Taube has already offered a perfect solution: a marriage between two high-profile political figures of their countries: Haydn and Royce. Alpha and Alpha relationship rarely works, if at all, so how was the fake marriage supposed to keep the peace? Yet why do Haydn feel so right submitting to his husband?

Characters:
The list is long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

that was so hot

the way Royce and Haydn gravitated towards each other, the mutual possessiveness, the codependency, the neediness it was great. they were very sweet together overall. i enjoyed this a lot!

i also enjoyed the occasional Ksar appearances.😋🤤

for some damn reason i kept mixing up the two mcs for like the first 20% of this book though!! my brain could not fucking remember which alpha was which. eventually i started remembering though so it’s all good🤣🤣

“Mine, he muttered deliriously, his hands gripping his husband’s plush ass hard.“Say you’re mine. Say it.
Haydn’s fingernails scratched Royce’s back.“No, he growled, clenching around him.“You’re mine.

[ 3 reread June 14, 2022] holy fuck, the narrator for this audio has THE HOTTEST VOICE EVER. He is damn unreal. Also, I reread this book so many damn times, it's hilarious it's just a 4 star. I'm upping it to five stars , the way it damn deserves

1st Reread: 24/10/21

PEOPLE! This has to be the MOST romantic story AH has ever written. WTF? Why hasn't Alessandra written more stories when our MC's are actually together!!! and who also do cute shit that literally made me SCREAM!

This has to be Alessandra's best work, without doubt.

4 ALPHA INSTINCT STARS ✨

Royce glanced at his future husband and tried to convince himself that he was attractive.
He couldn’t.

Honestly, just the way this book started was already so well done and it grips you right away.

It was pouring heavily on the day Haydn Schaefer’s life was turned upside down.

I love how we just instantly were just submerged into the plot, into the story, there was no dilly daddles.

And it just kept getting better from there.

“Civil war? Haydn said, his brows drawing close. “There is no civil war in our kingdom.
“Civil war on our planet, the king said. “For the Galactic Council, Eila is one entity, and they don’t care that we’ve had two different countries with different governments for thousands of years. They want us to make peace with Kadar and choose one Lord Chancellor to represent our planet. They don’t want two.
Haydn stared at him in amazement. “You can’t be seriously considering it. Pelugia and the Republic of Kadar had been at war all his life; he literally couldn’t imagine them not being at war

This is my first book of AH so I really had no expectations other than the fact that this book would possibly be explicitly raunchy, and I well... Well it is. But it's also so much more than that.

I didn't expect there to be this coherent of a World Building and that much focused on the plot- essentially that in itself is a disaster in the making for my personal taste.

But this book just worked.

It was seamless and addicting and funny and sweet and made you ache and so damn irresistible.

Not that Cleghorn was unattractive. Far from it. Royce Cleghorn was a very handsome man. Dark hair, dark eyes, a finely shaped mouth and a strong jaw. He was the type of beta Haydn usually hooked up with: tall and broad-shouldered, with a muscular chest and long, powerful legs. Theoretically, he wouldn’t mind having sex with him—except Cleghorn clearly didn’t share that opinion, his body language oddly aggressive.
Cleghorn gave him a stiff nod and clasped Haydn’s hand a little too hard.
Suppressing the urge to crush it back, Haydn met the other man’s gaze and smiled. He totally could be the better man.
Cleghorn’s black eyes narrowed a little.

Second things second, I NEED someone to give me a bloody handbook, a textbook, damn a bloody dictionary for all the terms and terminology this World/and Trope had.

This is my first "Omega Verse" as what my friends call it, although I have read werewolf fiction before, those books weren't as in-depth as this one. Hell I don't even remember the last Werewolf book I've read.

He does smell good, though.
Royce certainly didn’t share that opinion. Haydn Schaefer’s scent made his hackles rise more than any other alpha’s did. The prince’s strong scent, a mix of leather, iron, and campfire, rubbed Royce the wrong way, making him want to posture and prove himself superior. The primitive urge only irritated him. He had always prided himself on never participating in the alpha male posturing. He wasn’t an uncivilized animal. He honestly couldn’t remember the last time he’d reacted so badly to another alpha.
Fuck, this marriage was going to be a disaster.

And YOU GUYS, pigs must be bloody flying because THIS dynamic? This chemistry? This banter?! Fucking hell I'm damned for IT IS Everything.

And I'm damned for this CANNOT be the start of Mariam liking Enemies to Lovers. Oh hell NO.

Honestly. This book was just so much fun, incredibly light and sweet and heart warming. I loved the chemistry our characters have- although a bit fast might I add, their bond and how Haydn just submitted to Royce and how Royce was just the cutest Alpha Male I've ever read and he just makes me wanna bundle him up in warm chocolate and blankets.

Laying a hand on Haydn’s shoulder, he steered him inside the house, toward his bedroom.
“I know where my room is, Royce, Haydn said, sounding amused.
Royce dropped his hand. “Sorry, he said, frowning, baffled by his own behavior.
Haydn chuckled, laying a hand on the door handle and turning his head to smile at Royce. “Good night, honey.
Royce’s lips twitched. “Good night.

And not going to lie, I just LOVED how Alpha Male Royce was. You can call me BAT SHIT CRAZY and it still wouldn't stop my heart from skipping a beat everytime Royce dominated Haydn in the BEST WAY POSSIBLE.

Royce nodded and laid his hand over Haydn’s.
“There’s no one here to see us, Haydn said, shooting him a strange look, but he didn’t extract his hand, some color returning to his face.
“You’re my friend, Royce said.
Haydn smiled a little. “Am I? he said. “Is that what we are? Friends?
Royce smiled back. “That seems like a trick question.
Laughing softly, Haydn put his head on Royce’s shoulder, looking at their hands for a moment before entwining their fingers. “You are my friend, he murmured. “The strangest friend I’ve ever had. But you know what? I wasn’t lying at the press conference. I’m so glad it’s you.

The only thing I would've liked more was if this book was longer. I wanted to explore their friendship, their conversations and just their excellency even more. I wanted more of their dynamic YET even for where it ended, I was satisfied at what we got. And I have to say, the ending of this book was one of the sweetest and cutest endings I've read all year long.

Royce just watched him and nodded hopefully in the right places, drinking him in. Fuck, he was so beautiful. So damn pretty. The loveliest thing he’d ever seen. And he was just his. His husband, his mate, his Haydn

INITIAL REACTIONS

Oh damn damn DAMN ME for staying up until 9 in the damn morning reading this book because Oh dear LORD What have I seriously slept on for the past 4 years?!

*That's the sound I made reading this hot-as-hell ABO story*

It was like one long squee.... I think I did it out loud as I read this on the plane. Or more like DEVOURED IT on the plane.

Yes, I usually don't love ABO stories, and YES, I recognize this story's flaws, but YES I adored it.

Could be my mood, but this fluffy, sexy, interesting story just kept my attention and didn't let it go. BRING ON THE ALPHAS!

Told in dual POV, 3rd person, it’s the first installment in "The Wrong Alpha" and it can be read as a standalone. I’m a big fan of Alessandro Hazard and read most of her books but unfortunately, this one wasn’t what I expected! When I saw Haydn’s behavior with Royce, I couldn’t believe he was a general! I expected an enemies-to-lovers story but what I read was most likely a friends-to-lovers! It could have been more angsty, it had the potential. And the scene with the Omega was a disappointment! I’m with you on this, Lorraine! All in all, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t that good either, hope you enjoy it as well!

Once again so freaking delicious!!

4.5 stars

Awwww I enjoyed the hell out of this book! I loved loved loved it! It was simply delicious from the first page on.

I mean
 two countries at war
 two alphas
 an arranged marriage
 a relationship totally unnatural
 forced proximity

what more is there to want?

An alpha senator who pretends to be a beta enters a marriage with an alpha prince. That Royce is actually alpha is clear early on so it definitely explains his behavior. But what about our prince? The Deathbringer, the General of the kingdoms army? What is his excuse for his behavior that is so unlikely alpha. How is it possible that he submits to another alpha so willingly? It’s unnatural. And yet he does it.

Of course I won’t reveal the reasons as to why and I’m sure you cannot guess the right answer. So you have to read it!

Alpha-alpha relationships are so rare because they feeloff-putting and wrong—our body chemistry is wired against submitting—not because they are wrong.

Go pick this book up. I highly recommend it. It’s a light but thrilling and fast paced read. I can’t wait to read the second book in the series.

“Fuck, I love you so much I want to live inside of you.

Audio re-read-(7/22-7/24/22)

Devlin Wylde was a much better narrator than the one for The Straight Guy series. British, deep and gravelly yes please!

Original review-(9/9-9/10/21)

I’ve been in such an awful reading slump for a while and this one totally sucked me right in. Thanks so much Candy, for the perfect recommendation. 🖤

Nobody is who they say, it’s a total clusterfuck. But I’m enjoying the confusion of needs and emotions. I had no idea how sexy it would be when Hadyn allows Royce to mark him only to give him a little peace.

That’s why ABO is so fascinating, all those animal instincts we’ve mostly lost has come to the forefront. Plus there’s nothing hotter then a possessive man saying “mine!

I can’t get enough of how protective Royce is, even when they’re just friends. How he doesn’t like it when Haydn puts himself down.

I’m not sure what I was expecting with Royce’s rut but it certainly wasn’t some shit from The Handmaid’s Tale. Not that I’m against it, I’m just surprised.

This was such a steamy read, I just adored Royce’s delicious possessiveness. I really hated to see this one end.

And yet, there was a niggling doubt that he refused to go away. He gave Royce a searching look. "But you prefer omegas."
"I did. Until you." Royce's dark eyes gazed at him intently. "You're my husband. You're my mate whether you carry my mating mark or not. I kind of..." He swallowed, his jaw clenching a little and his cheekbones coloring. "In case you haven't noticed, I'm kind of crazy about you."

this was my introduction to omegaverse and i honestly adored this! i wasn't really sure what to expect (aside from two alphas clashing bc of the blurb) so, to my surprise, this was so fucking cute and i ate it up 😭 i think, because i expected a hate to love romance, the twist that Royce and Haydn actually got along was so sweet and, for once, i didn't want the angst bc i just wanted to see them happy together. 😳 also, they had some hot, steamy scenes 🥵 but i loved how Royce was so possessive of Haydn and vice versa. LOVED THE KSAR CAMEOS. 🥰

i'm personally not a fan of .

i'm looking forward to Devlin's story!! i heard it has more angst than this one so 🤧

December 11 needs to hurry up😩 I re-read this to refresh my memories for Liam's book.

Everytime I read this book I appreciate it more ǹ.

I love how Alessandra Hazard writes possessive, jealous, and dominant male leads.

Royce and Haydn had me swooning the entire time.

I love how Royce is crazy possessive. My dude can't help himself lol.

"You aren’t allowed to leave me. You belong to me by my side, in my bed, under me. You’re mine. I’ll lock you up here if I have to."

What can I say I always enjoy re-reading this book. It's my favorite of the series so far. Devlin's story was meh.

The blurb caught my attention because I had never read an OV about 2 alphas...

But it wasn't that. There are gonna be some spoilers which I think are necessary because the blurb and everything about it are kinda deceiving.

The writing and story? Great, fine.

But how alpha-alpha relationships are talked about was a HUGE NO. It's like poorly disguised homophobic rhetoric pushed onto designation instead of gay relationships. Here, any gender can be with any gender, because of MPreg. Which Alessandra Hazard seemed to take to mean: write any and all homosexual relationships as heteronormative as possible. I sometimes forgot this was about two men. And it's a damn M/M book ffs. It felt like she went outta her way to not reference one of the alphas genitals at all during sex scenes and focus only on the "superior" alpha. Haydn was an object and Royce was the male, the alpha.

So...alpha-alpha relationships...let me write some of what they were referred to as throughout the book and see if it was like a dogwhistle for anyone else: Unnatural, wrong, off-putting, goes against biology, they can't reproduce, homodesignation isn't normal. "Alphas want to fuck, not be fucked." I was triggered and I felt like I didn't have a right to be because this was a M/M book, but this was M/M in the loosest way possible because the author made the one "inferior" alpha partially an omega who exhibits typically female biology (ie slick, tits, etc). It was just fucked up. Idk if I'm the only one who noticed this or if I'm blowing this outta proportion but I hear shit like this every day, I wasn't expecting it in this damn OV book.

I couldn't really enjoy most of this book because random hatful sentiments towards gay people designations kept popping up.

Oh yeah, well into the MCs relationship developing, during his heat one of them fucked a woman in the same bed as his husband. That really turned me off to the whole thing.

I've really enjoyed the ‘Calluvia’s Royalty series and this ABO spin-off sounded great.
Well it did, and the idea of the characters and the plot are indeed enticing, unfortunately the execution isn’t in the same league as the original series.

Some things that didn’t feel right:

.) I had real trouble seeing Haydn as the war-seasoned general he’s supposed to be, the ‘Bringer of Death. His personality just doesn’t seem to fit that profile.

.) It is highly implausible that Haydn would have been so easily accepted in Kadar, considering how many deaths of Pelugian soldiers he must have caused.

.) There are so many clues what’s going on with Haydn right from the beginning, I have no idea why he hasn’t figured it out a lot sooner.

.) I expected far more clashing between Haydn and Royce to start with.

.) The whole mixture of an ABO world mixed in with the Calluvian universe and life that’s similar to ours on earth is a bit mind-boggling. It felt incongruous at times.

All in all, I’m not sure if this book has been thoroughly thought out. The writing itself is not the author’s best, particularly noticeable in many repetitions throughout the book (‘It felt wrong is so over-used, I might have rolled my eyes at one point), not to talk of the predictable way things works out.

It’s a shame. I really wanted to like this, and it was ok, but no more.

4.5 stars! Hot, so sweet and so much fun! I didn’t know what to expect from this series because I didn’t think I was into omegaverse, but I loved it!

I thought there would be anger and an enemies to lovers vibes, but there is none of that. It’s really sweet. Its about unexpected friendship. It’s about discovering who you really are. It’s about having really hot sex with your alpha husband.

I liked that there is a background of political intrigue, without being overwhelming and taking over the story. I also really enjoyed seeing Ksar, as it is loosely connected to the Calluvia series, on a different planet.

I loved the whole alpha possessiveness and marking.

For fans of #OmegaVerse #Knotting #ArrangedMarriages

Why read this book...

1. The World-Building...
This book starts a spinoff from her Calluvia's Royalty series. It also has a pretty cool cameo from there! The book follows an Omegaverse planet. It has a bit of what is basic omegaverse but the author has given a twist to it as well to make it her own. #ABOAndBeyond

2. The Arranged Marriage...
Two countries have been fighting for hundreads of years, so naturally only an arranged marriage can bring them closer to peace. Neddless to say, neither party is happy with that decision... #TakeOneForTheTeam

3. The MCs....
You have one prince and one senator who should be married. One is an alpha and the other a beta, so all is well.... or is it? #GottaASecretCanYouKeepIt

4. The Scenting...
So I never knew that Scenting can be as intimate as it was presented in this book. It had a huge part in regards to both MCs buiding a connection. #ISmellOfYou

5. The Heat...
Between the scenting, the kissing, and the knotting... this was a pretty hot book lol. #DesperateForYou

6. The HEA...
Ms. Hazard didn't disappoint, even after the curveball she throws towards the end of the book... Haydn and Royce are still going strong. #MeantToBe

I love this author, her books are just chef’s kiss. 😘 This series took me forever to start because I’m not an omegaverse fan mainly because I just can’t do mpreg and even though I knew mpreg wasn’t going to be a part of this series, I was still hesitant. I shouldn’t have been because I’m starting to realize this author could write about any topic out there and I’d still be begging for more. Even her books that haven’t been my favorite have been so fun to read and this one was no exception.

Haydn and Royce were so damn hot 🥵 I love how all of AH’s characters turn into total cocksluts especially when they think they’ll hate it. The scent marking in this was fabulous and I loved all the needy possessiveness these two had towards each other so I wasn’t expecting the sharing scene with the omega female. Even though it meant nothing and really just solidified their feelings for each other, I wasn’t feeling it. I did like the kinda sorta twist that happened later on which really helped explain a lot and I’m looking forward to reading the next in this series, Feral.

“He hated the effect Haydn had on him: the primitive, territorial animal that he turned into around the other alpha. Away from Haydn’s aggravating scent and blue eyes, Royce’s head felt clearer. He felt calmer in general. More like himself. He no longer felt like he needed to fucking piss all over his house—and the strange alpha inside it.

 alpha/alpha
 omegaverse
 warring planets
 heir to throne/powerful senator
 diplomatic marriage
 possessive/needy
 dominant/conciliatory
 daddy issues/mommy's boy

Plot
The Kingdom of Pelugia and the Republic of Kadar have been at war for a lifetime and the powers that be want peace between. Said powers have decided that a diplomatic marriage between two high ranking representatives of each planet should take place. Enter our main characters, Prince Haydn Schaefer and Senator Royce Cleghorn.

Main Characters
Prince Haydn Schaefer is the heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Pelugia. Handsome and charming, he is a cool-headed alpha and the military commander of Pelugia's army. The people's darling, he's been nicknamed the Golden General. But his military prowess on the field has also earned him the ominous moniker of Death Bringer.

Senator Royce Cleghorn is a powerful political figure and the youngest senator in history in Kadar. He is expected to become the next prime minister in the upcoming elections. His official documents have been falsified to identify him as a beta, but he's actually an alpha. This secret could destroy his political career should it come out.

Highlights
For a book about two alphas, the relationship is way less combustible than expected. Knowing AH's signature aggressive alpha characters, I expected this alpha-alpha pairing to be incendiary. Their conflicts are relatively tame. There are a few moments of tension, but the plot lacks OTT drama.

Royce is a calm, rational alpha before he meets Haydn. But Haydn brings out his possessive, territorial insincts, characteristics that he’d always prided himself as being above. Royce wants to claim him in the most primal ways and brand him as his.

“He wanted to mark Haydn up. He wanted Haydn to smell like his. Because he was his, dammit.

Haydn is set up as the "weaker, needier" alpha. However, he is the most well-adjusted, needy character I've ever come across in AH’s books (I've read all). He's not clingy or obsessive. He’s a self-assured general and at ease in his own skin. Haydn’s neediness only comes through sexually where he’s also submissive. He is the weaker alpha in the sense that he’s willing to check his ego and compromise when Royce acts ups, even though his own alpha instincts still war within him. Haydn’s only real weakness is his daddy issues with the king.

The relationship build-up is about as slow burn as you can get with an AH book. Both Haydn and Royce enter the marriage as enemies by virtue of their warring countries. But as times goes on, their marriage of convenience changes from distant to civil. Civil to friendly. Friendly to scorching hot. And then scorching hot to all the feels.

And when it comes to smut, Alessandra continues to deliver it her inimitable style.

"This is fucked up, Royce whispered roughly, sounding not quite himself. “But fuck, this is all I could think about as I lay in the bed that stank of you—wanted to come all over you—dirty you up with my jizz and then rub it into your skin."

4.5 Stars!
Nooo I finished this much too soon! Loved this journey, and binged this in a few hours (I think binging this author's books is becoming a recurring pattern).

Overall, I loved Haydn and Royce together! They seemed so perfect and I always love a well-written omegaverse. As usual, the world-building was impeccable, its detailed and realistic, and there's so much potential for more amazing stories! We also got to see a few glimpses of Ksar (who's from That Irresistable Poison) which I loved.

This was a great, bingable, not-too-angsty, omegaverse-themed novel and a brilliant start to Alessandra's new series! As usual, I hoped it could've been a bit longer but maybe that's just me being greedy :p

As sorta a warning though, this book does have one short scene, but it is to forward the plot and I didn't find it too squicky at all.

I'm looking forward to more installments <3
The next book cannot come soon enough!

This is a spin-off series from this author's other series; Calluvia's Royalty. It's set in the same universe but on a different planet, so it can be read as a stand-alone. But hiiighly recommend reading her other works, starting from That Alien Feeling because they were amazing.

DNF @33%

What the fuck is a MMF scene doing here, and not just an off-page mention, oh no, this if a full-on graphic scene: "He stroked her large breasts and soft stomach ... slipped his finger lower, playing with her clit ... touching her wet cunt."

I feel violated.

I stopped reading MF years ago partly because I hate how women write about other women.

Wet cunt, really? REALLY??

Revolting.

Well...

I was unnaturally disappointed in this book by a favorite author of mine. I know I’m a few weeks late to the party here and I jumped in without even reading the blurb expecting drama and hotness galore.

I got some hotness—it could have been hotter. I got some drama—there could have been more.

MORE. I expected more from this book than what I got. Will I read the next book? Yes. Maybe if I go on expecting less, I’ll be unnaturally surprised.

My rec? Read some other reviews and make up your mind. And as far as that whole “cheating debate about a scene in this book—well, it’s another culture. Get over it.

A wonderful new start to a new spin-off series from Hazard's Calluvia series. We've heard about other planets in that series, and now we get introduced to one of them that has a/b/o dynamics. It's mostly non-shifted (there's some class of alphas that can kinda shift at times, but otherwise no one can shift) and this story focuses on two non-shifter alphas.

On Royce and Haydn's planet, there are two countries, each divided and having been at civil war with each other for decades. In Haydn's country, there is a monarchy and he is the prince and heir, while Royce is a senator and they have a prime minister.

Because the Galactic Council (I believe that's what it's called), which includes Ksar from the second book of the Calluvia series, wants them to stop fighting and gain peace or else they will be booted out of the Council, which gives them protection and many resources. And so, an arranged marriage is, well, arranged, between Royce and Haydn.

Usually, an alpha and an alpha would never be put together, but for reasons I won't spoil, Royce is believed to be a beta when he's actually an alpha.

It doesn't take long for Royce to admit to Haydn that he's an alpha, only....Haydn and Royce don't fight for dominance like two Alpha usually would if they got together. See, in this society, it's not unheard of for two Alphas to be together, but it's very rare because both Alphas' instincts tell them to fight for dominance so much that if two alphas do try to be together, they usually end up in a toxic, and maybe sometimes abusive, relationship.

But soon enough it's apparent that things are different with these two. Haydn is a little more willing to submit than an Alpha usually would be. And Royce finds himself becoming more and more possessive of Haydn and needs to scent mark him constantly.

So as for my theory - major spoiler coming up, so don't click on the spoiler tag if you don't want to know - I was wrong and right with it:

As for giving this four stars, I enjoyed this immensely, but it felt a little too rushed. This was only about 200 pages, so I felt like we didn't get enough of these two together and I wanted to much more so I was left feeling a little bereft, and as much as I loved them together and loved their chemistry, the transition from the not liking each other to liking each other to love was a little too rushed. The sex, as I've come to expect with this author, was amazing, and what we did get of these two I enjoyed immensely, and I couldn't put it down. It was just too rushed for me to give this a full 5 stars.

Otherwise, though, this was a great start to a new series, and the plot was interesting and exciting, and these two were wonderful together, and I breezed through this, couldn't get enough of it.

So overall, it was wonderful and I highly recommend. Can't wait for more in this series!

(Also at the end the author mentions that she had COVID, and that is horrible, I hope she is doing much better and staying safe <3)

Ok so I can't give this as many stars as I gave most of the Straight Guy and Calluvia's Royalty Those are on a different level for me. That being said, I DID like it. WAY more than I thought I would. And since I'm feeling even lazier than usual, (How is that possible?) but still want to give this book some CREDIT, I present to you an 80/20% gif to word ratio review. (Approximately.)

First of all, when I found myself reading this, I had an identity crisis. I've never even been tempted to read an alpha/beta/omega book. 🙃

But I guess all of my friend's reviews and 's witchy ways started getting to me. The pull was too strong. 😱

The result? 😘

And by that I mean

It was even

And absolutely

So consider me pleasantly surprised.

And absolutely moving on to the next one. 😉

I can never stop myself when it comes to this author. The books are just so addicting and it’s honestly became a guilty pleasure for me. Guilty because they’re not exactly the most healthy relationships.

This one however was a pleasant surprise. I picked this up when I realised it’s been a while since I’ve binged Alessandra’s books. I went into it completely blind knowing it was an Alpha-Alpha romance.

But it was friends to lovers. And a marriage of convenience. I couldn’t help myself. I’m a slut for those tropes. Hayden was such a darling character honestly. And his easy acceptance and charm when it came to Royce was so satisfying to read.

“You’re my husband. You’re my mate whether you carry my mating mark or not. I kind of… He swallowed, his jaw clenching a little and his cheekbones coloring. “In case you haven’t noticed, I’m kind of crazy about you.

There was surprisingly no push and pull. It was the most easy going relationship I’ve ever read from this author and I realllyy liked it.

It obviously had some of the typical aspects of an Alessandra book with the possessive nature and crude moments.

Royce just watched him and nodded hopefully in the right places, drinking him in. Fuck, he was so beautiful. So damn pretty. The loveliest thing he’d ever seen. And he was just his. His husband, his mate, his Haydn.

They’re relationship was more sweet and fluffy. Going from strangers to friends to scenting eachother to lovers . So yes. I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a VERY quick read. Because it took me 2 hours to finish it lmao.

Tropes: arranged marriage, ABO dynamics, paranormal romance
Feels: 3.5/5
Steam*: 4/5
Kinks: ABO
Angst: low
HEA: yes
Pairing: MM
Triggers/potential icks/content warnings: minor character rape (past), violence, war, drugging, one scene of sex with OW but it was a threesome with MCs

Nov. 22, 2023 - reread. Reviewing since I wasn't writing reviews back when I read this initially.

Haydn and Royce are both alphas. Haydn is heir to the throne of his people. Royce is a top senator of his people. They aren't supposed to be compatible. To broker peace between their people, a political arranged marriage is set between them. However, when they meet, there is something between them. They quickly become friends and realize the other person has good intentions towards peace. But there's also a possessiveness and comfort between them that shouldn't be there given their natures. Can they beat the restrictions of their natures and some political drama and stay together?

This is a nice escapist read. I loved the passion and possessiveness between them. But also the easy friendship, trust, and picking each other over others.

I didn't love the scene where Royce has sex with the female omega. Yeah Haydn told him to and Royce turned it into a threesome with Haydn where he could basically only go through with it simulating sex with Haydn, but still slightly ick for me with MCs being married.

Some notable moments:

"Before Haydn could decide what to think of it, Royce hauled him toward the bed. Haydn didn’t resist, forcing himself to be as docile as possible, knowing that any initiative would only infuriate Royce when he was in rut. From the corner of his eye, he could see the omega watching them in puzzlement as Royce started stripping Haydn with swift, efficient movements of his hands."

"“Are you actually fucking him? Aksel said, looking at his brother curiously. “Aksel! Vagrippa said. “I kind of want to know, too, Belinda mumbled, earning a reproachful look from her mother."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

I absolutely adored the story!

It’s always exciting to read something new from Alessandra and this new book is as beautiful as the other ones. If you love arrange marriages, hate to love(kinda) relationships and a very possessive character this is the book for you! I fell in love with Royce and Haydn. It was beautiful to see how they developed real feelings for each other. I totally enjoyed Royce wanting to be with Haydn ALL the time and Haydn just letting his husband do whatever he wanted.

The side characters were really interesting too. Can’t wait to know the stories of Aksel and Devlin(I can see myself suffering with his story).

You can read Unnatural as a standalone but if you enjoy reading in order I’ll recommend reading the Calluvia’s Royalty Series first so you’re a little more familiar with the setting of the book. Plus you can enjoy the appearance of Ksar.

i liked this one mucho better than calluvia royalty series (even though both didnt took place on earth and has political shit), and i just realized this might be the first AH book that has the least smut in it. overall not my fav not my least fav either (wanted more, wanted much more. coz this sure did started out well but by the end i was left with, 'wait thats it?' It just lacks flavor imo)

ps : lucien has the whole package, tits, ass hole and a cock. no wonder aksel was entrancedd lmaooo. the point is, hopefully there will be a book bout em
