Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky (Russian: 袣芯褉薪械泄 袠胁邪薪芯胁懈褔 效褍泻芯胁褋泻懈泄) was one of the most popular children's poets in the Russian language. His catchy rhythms, inventive rhymes and absurd characters have invited comparisons with the American children's author Dr. Seuss. Chukovsky's poems Tarakanishche ("The Monster Cockroach"), Krokodil ("The Crocodile"), Telefon ("The Telephone") and Moydodyr ("Wash-'em-Clean") have been favorites with many generations of Russophone children. Lines from his poems, in particular Telefon, have become universal catch-phrases in the Russian media and everyday conversation. He adapted the Doctor Dolittle stories into a book-length Russian poem as Doktor Aybolit ("Dr. Ow-It-Hurts"), and translated a substantial portion of the Mother Goose canon into Russian as Angliyskiye Narodnyye Pesenki ("English Folk Rhymes"). He was also an influential literary critic and essayist. (from: wikipedia)

The Stolen Sun by Korney Chukovsky, Illustrator Yuri Vasnetsov, Translation from Russian to English by Dorian Rottenberg, Translation from English to Hindi language by Madanlal 鈥淢adhu鈥- The book is in poem format. Book begins with the story of a forest in the evening. Sky is clouded and the sun is covered. Animals and birds who reside in the forest are afraid of their children who have not returned back to their homes and nests. Birds, bear, frogs, rabbit, ewe, sheep think that crocodile has eaten the sun. Crickets and wolves are making happy noises. Next morning, the sheep wake up the animals and request them to fight with the crocodile and rescue the sun. All encourage the bear to fight. Bear picks up a thick stick and arrives on the bank of the river and finds that he crocodile is eating a shining object in his mouth. Bear hits the crocodile with his stick, first slow, then sharp hits. Crocodile is afraid and releases the sun. Sun moves up to the sky and its shine light on the world. Coloured illustrations help the reader to relate to the story. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book.
