Edited by Che Sarigumba and Jenny Ortuoste, the e-book features 41 literary pieces, focusing on the experiences of mothers during the COVID-19 health crisis, as well as quarantine, isolation and healing.
The book aims to understand the importance and the role of women, specifically mothers, and their literature during a global crisis. It also aims to promote the narratives of women who are mothers by highlighting that women can be both child-raisers and artists amidst the struggles of being a parent.
"This is how we learn from what would otherwise be a nasty, painful time: we stand up, and harness all our skills, pulling together toward the light, and a better, more even path." - Alma Anonas-Carpio, Pandemic Kitchen (one of the included writings)
In this collection of writings, Filipino mother-writers were given spaces for their different sentiments, narratives, and reflections during the COVID-19 pandemic and its drastic effects on how we live our lives. I liked the diversity of entries given dignity, may these be about their own stories, a valuable person to them, or an important point of view needing a platform. The difficulty I experienced in finishing this material sooner than I wanted was my limited emotional and mental capacity I can only make space for very few pieces at a time. Overall, the messages conveyed can be relevant not only to women and mothers but to all Filipinos as well.
