I was just a boy when the monsters rose on earth, forcing humans to flee to the coastlines and live in cramped, dirty, military-controlled cities. I enlisted as soon as I could to escape.

Now, I’ve been in the military for twelve years and have the scars—and missing body parts—to prove it. As a hardened soldier who’s spent his fair share of time out in the Wastes—the dangerous place where monsters roam free—I didn’t think anything could surprise me anymore.

But then circumstance forced me together with a big, annoying purple monster who’s arrogant and bossy and pushes all my buttons in the worst—and best—ways. I need his help, and I hate needing anyone’s help. But the more time I spend with him, the more I realise that maybe there’s more from him that I need. And that he might need things from me too.

But I’m still a soldier. I still have responsibilities. It doesn’t matter how I feel about Edin, because we can’t be together. It’s too dangerous.

That doesn’t stop me wanting him, though.

Edin is Book Two of the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that focuses on monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to read the series in order. Warning: This m/m love story contains explicit content and is not suitable for young readers. It also contains graphic depictions of torture and violence, and mentions PTSD.

hello, my name is nark and i am officially a monster fucker.

this book definitely had a more extensive plot than the first one. the author did a great job at fixing up and explaining some implausible aspects from book one, that i chose to ignore when reading it since i loved it THAT much.🤣 we also got more world building and got introduced to a lot more species of monsters.

just like in book one i ADORED the characters!!!♥️

hunter (the human) is a big, brave, impatient grump. has a reckless side and is very easily pissed off. sucked at talking about anything emotional. i related to him a lot.🤣 but he’s also very loyal to those he cares about and i liked him even when he was being an asshole at times. i gave him a break since the man was clearly, understandably stressed out over the circumstances!🤣

edin is a cocky, arrogant, but also a super friendly, flirty purple monster that we got to meet in book one. he is also very kind, gentle and selfless. he’s eager to help everyone around him. he very quickly became quite possessive of hunter and i LOVED that. 👀 he’s had many painful and traumatic experiences that he’s haunted by, but he’s managed to still stay happy even after all that’s happened to him.

edin is such a cuddly, touchy feely guy. 🥺♥️ he loves to nuzzle people. loves affection. loves sleeping even though he doesn’t even NEED to sleep. loves sunbathing on any flat surface. he’s truly a huge teddy bear.

i loved the way edin would wrap his tail around hunter’s leg when they sat by each other to comfort him. (and also wrap it around other things if you know what i mean*wink wink* 👀🤣)

we also got to see the human danny and the soul eater wyn (who also showed his drama queen side in this book) again. i had ALREADY missed them and it was great catching up with them!🥰

i liked hunter’s best friend charlie a lot too. apparently he’s getting a book in the future too, so i am very excited about that!

i loved this book just as much as book one. god i really don’t know how i’ll be able to wait for the sequel!! we already know the monster that it’s gonna be about - the rycke!! 👀 already heard a lot of unsettling things about ryckes, so i CANNOT wait to see how book three goes.

ETA: The author wrote a Christmas short story featuring Edin, Hunter, and Charlie (poor, lonely Charlie who needs to get his HEA soon!). If you liked this pairing (and even if you haven't read books 3 and 4), don't miss this feel-good story (a hot AF steamy scene is included too!).

~4.5~

I fell in love with Edin in book 1, and his story did not disappoint. I liked Hunter less, but I also understood his anger and frustration, as well as his unwillingness to trust strangers. Hunter is a tough cookie, but he has to be.

I can't fathom surviving in a place as barren and desolate as the Wastes, with danger lurking at every corner, much less doing so with a prosthetic leg when walking hours each day is a necessary burden.

The plot of Edin focuses on Edin and Hunter (who very reluctantly, and after much convincing, accepts Edin's help) tracking down and rescuing Hunter's best friend, Charlie, who is taken by monsters that live underground.

As human and monster conspire to save Charlie (with help from Wyn and Danny!), the MCs uncover a sinister, barbaric scheme involving both humans and monsters. This plot point is not fully resolved, but I'm hoping the storyline will continue in a future book.

This book still contains violence and steam aplenty, but it's not as sensual as the first book and the violence is not as graphic.

Edin and Hunter's relationship didn't feel as solid to me as Wyn and Danny's, but I was satisfied with the ending (except for Charlie's indecision: Is he going to stay or leave?). There were a few loose ends that, again, I'm hoping will be addressed in upcoming books.

These books must be read in order!

Ok, so I didn’t actually think Wyn or Danny would make an appearance in this book, I’m not sure why :,) I mean it’s been a while since I’ve read “Soul Eater so I was just happy to see them. Anyway, I liked this story more than I thought I would. I love Edins soft heart and how he helped Hunter through his insecurities. It was also made clear how much Charlie meant to Hunter which was nice because it made me really sympathize with Hunter trying to get him back. I do wish we got a little bit more of a peek into Hunter's life before everything happened, there were glimpses but nothing solid. The detail given to each monster is just awesome, I love the world building and how the military is set up, where not everyone is bad but there’s also a lot of twisted inside work. I really should have read this one sooner!

**Audio re-read review, two years later**

Bumping my original rating up to 5 stars! Gah, just does such a fantastic job with his narration of this one! I loved the voices and the journey of this relationship and this story. I liked how this relationship took a bit longer to develop and that Hunter was more independent and flawed. Plus, give me a MC with a disability, and I'm a happy camper! Rounding this one up this time.

**see below for my original ebook review**

*4.5 stars*

I'm in looooove with this series! Give me all of the strange colors, sizes, and shapes of monsters (plus their appendages) because has made me a VERY happy camper.

While wasn't quite as amazing as , I still enjoyed it immensely. A huge purple monster (huge everywhere) and a soldier missing a limb... ahhhh, I'm in heaven. I love interesting couples, and I was totally down with Edin and Hunter.

I even enjoyed how prickly Hunter was in the beginning of the story. Edin was jolly and easy to like, but I liked how Hunter was flawed, really flawed. I'm so sick of perfect MCs being perfect, so it was refreshing to see an MC sort of act like a dick. However, once Edin and Hunter got together it was magic... sexy magic. They both were going through a lot, each with a long history of trauma, but as a couple they were sweet and surprisingly unproblematic. I couldn't get enough.

This series is just so wonderful. It is a bit violent and angsty, but the world-building is top notch and the characters are all *chef's kiss*.

Moving right onto the next in the series!

Relido em 2024 dessa vez em audiobook! SÓ VOU DIZER UMA COISAAAA... NÃO TEM COISA MELHOR DO QUE OUVIR AS RISADAS E OS HMMMM DO EDIN EM AUDIOBOOK ❤️💘❤️💘
AH, EDIN AINDA CONTINUA SENDO MEU MONSTRO FAVORITO ( JÁ LI OS OUTROS MAS EDIN AINDA É MEU TOP 1).

===================================
Eu amei o Edin desde o livro 1,então.. Eu daria 10 stars 😘

Told in single POV, 1st person, it’s the second installment in the "Monstrous" series and it’s better if you read it in order. Compared to book 1, I enjoyed that one much better. I couldn’t connect with the characters or feel their chemistry. After reading 77% I started skipping a lot. The thing is the author entered Wyne & Danny (from book 1) here and they were almost a huge part of the story (it's why I said it’s better if you read it in order) and it bothered me. I liked Edin in book 1, he was fun and caring but here when Wyne was harsh toward Hunter, he didn’t behave like someone who cares much. Another thing is the story dragged a lot. All in all, it didn’t live up to my expectations but hope you enjoy it more than me!

4/5 3/5🌶 1/5😱 4/5🎧

I'm NEVER gonna be NOT reading this series.
Just saying so you know where to find me in the coming weeks.

Seriously, this Gentle Giant & Grumpy Grumbly Hunter duo was lovely.

But i have some thoughts.

We have met Edin before in Soul Eater, he is Wyn's good - perhaps only real - friend. While on one of his wandering stints in the Wastes, Edin, the lilac colored loveable goof, comes across Hunter, who is in a bit of a predicament - he is stuck in a sinkhole. Edin helps him out of there and finds out that Hunter is actually on a quest to find his friend / partner who seems to have been kidnapped by some monsters. Edin, ever the good natured Samaritan, ventures to help Hunter on his here quest, and so the unlikely partnership begins.

Hunter is a douche and Edin is not at all, again proving my belief that humans are almost always worse characters than monsters.

I understand that we were going for a completely opposite dynamic from the first instalment, and it works, especially because we get to see Wyn and Danny again, and the contrast between their pairing and Edin's shit-tempered human is jarring, however i couldn't help but wish someone better for Edin. The plot, although it was certainly here this time, in the form of "well at least they have a goal instead of aimlessly wandering around in the wastelands" started boring me around the 45% mark, and by 75% i was ready to give up on Charlie altogether.

Add to it that i spent until the 95% mark screaming at Michael Lesley (the narrator) to SHUT UP every time Hunter said "but we have to go back to the military" and you have a picture of me quite frustrated with the dynamic. To me, Edin deserved a lot of grovelling from Hunter for the way he seemingly (and also factually) used Edin to aide him in rescuing Charlie.

Speaking of heavenly voices, Lesley is a magician, and i loved his Hunter, and Charlie, as well as obviously still his Wyn. Danny (the southern drawling dude) has grown on me, but please tell me - why did Edin have to have a eastern European accent? Like, i couldn't help but picture A big burly Russian dude instead of a purple muscular monster with a swishing tail. 💜🟪🟣

Also, there are 5 spicy scenes. Where between Danny and Wyn at some point it felt like all they did was F🍆ck, here they were really a lot more reserved, which is understandable but still made me long for more. I would absolutely not give this higher than 🌶️🌶️🌶️which is quite seriously tame for Monster smut, i feel.

Anywayyy, on to the next one. Bring on the Rycke.

Edin’s book is here! He’s less mysterious and more arrogant than Wyn (and kind of a busybody), but that doesn’t make him any less loveable.

Edin’s a bit like an iceberg. He is careful with what he reveals, so it’s easy to assume he’s a bit vacuous and not very deep. But he feels things very deeply—life experience has just taught him to not get his hopes up.

Hardened soldier Hunter has seen it all. Done it all. He didn’t think there was much left out in the Wastes that could surprise him, but that all changes when circumstances force him together with this big, annoying purple monster who’s bossy and overbearing and pushes all his buttons in the worst—and best—ways.

We get to see more of the Wastes in this book, and find out what it’s like surviving out there when you’re not travelling with a ghoulish Soul Eater who everyone fears. It was so much fun exploring more of the world in this book. Edin and Hunter have lots of adventures, and we get to see Danny and Wyn again, who get to experience some more closure.

These two are a lot less sweet than Danny and Wyn, but neither of them would have it any other way.

Monster Index
I've also included a handy Monster Index at the end of Edin's book, so we can keep track of all those weird and creepy monster species that pop up throughout. Especially as some may become very important in future books...

What’s next?
Remember that camp of “half-decent raiders back in Nebraska that Edin was going to take Danny to? We’re heading there in Book Three, to finally see how ‘the other half live out in the Wastes.

And we’ll finally be meeting the rycke. Specimen zero-zero-one to the military. The monster that Wyn told Danny to run from if he ever came across it.

Fun!

Beware, unpopular opinion ahead.
I'm terribly sorry, but that bored me to pieces. I really liked Edin and Hunter and also the guest roles of Wyn and Danny. I really liked that there was some background on the monsters in general. And I love Edin's story. But everything else was annoying and boring for me. It all felt a bit like the old Mad Max movies to me and somehow I couldn't shake the feeling that this was annoying me too much. And I'm not a fan of Charlie ... 🥴
The plot itself was pretty dull. I'm rounding it up simply because Edin is so adorable and purple. 💜

I really enjoyed this but felt like there was something missing, but I'm not quite sure what!

Loved seeing Wyn and Danny again, and getting to know Edin. I actually liked Hunter even though he was prickly - dude was going through a lot!

Maybe it's the fact the whole book is basically about rescuing Charlie, but I don't know him enough to really care one way or the other whether he gets rescued? 🤔

I really hope Edin and Hunter get to stay at their Homestead though, and looking forward to the next story!

Audio - All the stars for Michael Lesley!!! Seriously, his performance is off the charts magnificent!!

Story - 4.5 Stars!!

I was so certain that I was one and done with this series after reading book 1. I know now that I would have enjoyed the story a lot more had the audio been out at the time, and I listened to it instead of reading it.

I gave in to giving book 2 a go because of my sister's high praise of the audio, and now I'm addicted. Michael Lesley did THAT!!!

Edin's breath caught, tension creeping through his body before he tightened his arms around me. ❝Do you? he asked in a low, uncharacteristically vulnerable voice. ❝Do you have to go back, Hunter? I heard him swallow.❝Would you not stay with me instead?

favorite moments/things:
hunter's asshole-ish personality matching well with edin being unbothered about... well, everything. 🤣 they had fun banters bc of their personalties clashing.
 WYN/DANNY MOMENTS. 💘💘
 wyn torturing .
hunter's growth. the more time he spent with edin, you could see him lower his walls and become more open to things he never was before.
hunter becoming protective of edin overtime🥺
 jealous hunter
edin being caring towards hunter (i swear, the way these monsters show their love to their human makes me swoon 😭)

i adored this book! although it took me a while to see something between hunter and edin (romantically) but, once i did, they were so freaking cute - especially the way edin would have this innocence towards certain things (*cough* kissing). i loved seeing wyn and danny here again, as well as the addition of charlie and cat! wyn and danny still own my heart, but i definitely enjoyed this as its own. 🤍

2.5 stars.

I didn't find the first book in this series engaging, so I decided to give the second one a shot. Unfortunately, it turned out to be just as dull. The romance felt nonexistent; there was zero chemistry between Hunter and Edin, despite my genuine efforts to connect with their relationship.

Hunter was particularly frustrating. I kept expecting him to develop as a character, but by the time he did, I had completely lost interest. Edin, too, came across as flat and unremarkable—nothing was compelling about him whatsoever.

I'm curious if the remaining books in the series are any better.
Can someone tell me?

So I started something with Soul Eater and now, apparently, I am making it my life's mission to find a monster song for every book in the series. For Edin? Couldn't be anything but , especially cause he ATE.

Edin doesn't have only one eye or one horn (thankfully) but what he does have is one glorious dagger-tipped prehensile tail and he definitely knows how to use it.

This was absolutely adorable. Even in the first book, I thought Edin was the most huggable monster in the world and he deserves all the love. Pairing him with Hunter a.k.a. Mr. GrumpyPants led to some hilarious antics and incredibly delectable sex scenes.

And OMG WE GOT MORE DANNY AND WYN + some VERY satisfying & cathartic revenge. I will say, Danny and Wyn are still (and most likely will always be) my favorite couple but beyond the "first book bias", I still think there was something missing in this one. Can't really put my finger on what but, for a longer book, I feel like the romance wasn't as deep as it could have been? Still VERY good, mind you, but the standards set in Soul Eater weren't quite met for me this time around.

Honestly though, that last spicy scene damn near makes up for anything that might be lacking in the rest of the book, GOOD LORD. *fans self*

AHHHHH CAN'T WAIT FOR THE RYCKE!!

I’m here again regretting not starting this series sooner LOL. Another 5 stars, I enjoyed this so much, pure excitement and joy.

What stands out most are the characters, each with their own unique and special qualities. The plot strikes a great balance, offering just the right amount of action and romance to keep me completely hooked.

Edin and Hunter are just as precious as Wyn and Danny. At first, I wasn’t entirely sure about Hunter, but watching his character evolve was such a treat. I loved seeing him melt for Edin and become fiercely protective of him—it added so much depth and heart to the story.

LOVED that Wyn and Danny were part of this story!

Audiobook is amazing!! Another fantastic narration by Michael Lesley!!

Can’t wait to read Charlie’s book!

Overall, this series is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and I can’t wait to dive into the next one.

I didn't like this as much as book 1, but still 4 stars rounded up from 3.75 ish.

Mainly I liked the big, lavender monster called Edin. He's a sweetheart! So good and sweet and huggable and lovable. The best sort of "innocent" male.

Hunter was a piece of work, and even at the end I didn't really like him all that well. Didn't feel sorry for his scars or his missing leg or any of it honestly. Just thought he was a real selfish asshole.

At least he made the right decision to stay with Edin, but... I really just wanted to deck him for most of the book!

That just didn’t live up to my expectations at all. It was honestly dull compared to Soul Eater. Dull plot, dull MCs, dull relationship and dull sex. I mean there were no freaky-monster-sex stuff.. Edin was basically a human with an enormous purple cock and that’s it. Disappointed!

What I liked:
Edin, he was so precious and sunshine-y as I expected. Such a soft purple giant 🥺
Wyn and Danny. They were very involved in this story and I wasn't expecting it. Seeing Wyn be so in love and whipped for Danny was my fav part of this book. I'm so happy he got his revenge on Mallory.
I watched as Danny wandered over to where Wyn was still leaning. When he reached him, the monster snagged his waist and dragged him closer. As Danny settled his back comfortably against Wyn’s front, the Soul Eater’s hooded head dipped to Danny’s neck for what I could only assume was a kiss.

So freaking cute. Screaming, crying, and throwing up 😭

 Edin's jealously and possessiveness 🤭

❝He is mine, human, Edin snarled, taking a step forward. ❝I am his, he is mine. Not yours. Yes? Do you understand?

We got some more information on the rycke 👀

❝What’s a rycke? I asked.
❝A type of monster that is unfathomably powerful. Edin shook his head, lips curving into a humourless smile. ❝They are a dichotomy of unlimited violent rage and a peaceful, gentle nature. They do not like hurting anything, but when they are pushed to their limit, they are unstoppable. Feared by all.

This gave me goosebumps for real. The fact that they are so powerful but have a gentle nature is very intriguing. I have a feeling I'm going to go soft when I finally meet the rycke 🥺

 The smut 🥵

❝I want to run my tongue over every inch of your beautiful body, Edin rumbled. He made a low sound. ❝You’re so much bigger and stronger than other humans I’ve seen. I want to touch you all over.

There was a huge monster... 🍆 the sex scenes were really hot but they didn't compare to the scenes in Soul Eater in my opinion.

What didn't work for me:
Where was the deep emotional connection like the first book? Where was the romance? There was little to none, especially in the first 50% of the book. This book is over 400 pages so to go 200 pages with literally nothing had me losing interest real quick
I was bored out of my mind for the first half I almost dnfed but I wanted to continue because this is a series and they are best read in order. It did pick up after a while but I wasn't invested so it didn't really matter to me.
I did not like Hunter. I love grumpy/sunshine and he was so grumpy but so unlikable and annoying to me.
It was mentioned in this book how Edin, along with other monsters, will outlive their humans partners. I mean yeah obviously, I was definitely thinking this when reading Soul Eater but I thought it was going to be something that we all think silently but don't voice out. But then the author went in and put it in the book. I know it's realistic but I don't want to reading about how the humans in this series will die and the monster will live on.... no thanks 💔

It was knowing that the pain of losing him, when it did happen, was worth the time that would precede it. Because it would happen; I would outlive him, as much as the thought filled me with bone-crushing despair. But in some ways, I felt like that knowledge made me love him even more.

Ummm excuse me??? please no. I don't want to have to think about that...

Anyway, this was a huge disappointment after how much I adored the first book. Despite my outcome with this, it hasn't deterred my interest in the series. The book was still good, but it just didn’t work for me personally. I'll be starting the rycke immediately and I can't wait for more in the series.

I die for nicknames in another language

“Josdo? I repeated, trying to pronounce it just how he had—joz-doh. My voice was hoarse. “What does that mean? Edin grinned wide, fangs glinting as he leaned forward. “It means ‘morsel, human. Because that day we met, when I told you I didn’t want to eat you… He leaned even closer to nuzzle my ear, making a pleasant shiver run up my spine. “…I lied.

I Just love Edin so much.

I was filled with an overwhelming urge to crush this big purple monster against me. To hold him tight in my arms and not let go.

I love it when a big guy secretly wants to be manhandled by a bigger guy

I’d never had that before. Never been with anyone bigger or stronger than me. It was pretty fucking intoxicating, knowing Edin could take anything I dished out—and give it back even more.

I feel like hunter took too long to decide he wanted to stay with Edin and leave the military even after learning about all the horrific things they did but I get where he was coming from the military was his whole life.

It was knowing that the pain of losing him, when it did happen, was worth the time that would precede it. Because it would happen; I would outlive him, as much as the thought filled me with bone-crushing despair. But in some ways, I felt like that knowledge made me love him even more.

When we first meet Edin in I was excited to read his book, and Edin was just as good as I hoped. It was a fun dystopian adventure and the romance between Edin and Hunter was great.

While I enjoyed Edin, it lacked the charm of Soul Eater and it was just so boringly normal 😩 (why did he did not fuck him with his tail) just your regular run of the mill 🍆 in 🍑. Albeit a big monster you know what in a very human ass, but still achingly normal.

We did get immersed in a world run by monsters more and that part was very enjoyable. Along with Edin being very matter of fact that I found myself having a few chuckles he’s so funny.

Overall, a solid second book in the series which made me love the world a lot more. Our men had a mission to rescue and so this one contained more of a solid plot. Also more Wyn and Danny which is always a good thing 😍

What I wanted: more tail 😌 Naw cuz it was very unserious with the one little tail action 😩. I wanted to see Hunter being on top that would have been nice.

UNLESS EDIN DOENST HAVE A HOLE 😲 (ignore me I’m a mess).

Side note: I know his tail has a literal weapon on the end which IMO was a writing a fail 🤷🏽‍♀

Read this knowing that you will find a story between humans who fall in love with monsters, which are the most beautiful thing in the world. 💞

I liked it a lot more than the first one. More monsters. More world-building. Plus romance. Aaaaaand Edin is so adorable.

I loved this, loved this, loved this!!

This is such a great book and just as wonderful as the first one! I was worried I wouldn’t like Edin’s book as much as Wyn’s, but boy was I wrong. We do get Danny and Wyn scenes y’all!!!

Edin was giving a Golden Retriever vibe that I lived for. He was so happy, optimistic, loyal, and caring. Yet he was not someone that deserved to be overlooked or underestimated. He had depth to him that was tragic and meaningful and the way he would do whatever was needed to protect and save Hunter or anyone/anything really made me fall in love with him.

Hunter was one of my favorite MMCs. He was fiercely loyal (I want him as my friend, that’s for sure), grumpy, pragmatic, and thoughtful. Everything he did for Charlie made my heart ache in the best way. And when he started warming up to Edin and recognizing everything he’s been doing to help? Gah! 💗💗 Character growth alert!

The spice in this book was HOT, holy mother of god. Hunter and Edin were absolutely perfect for each other and they can light a place on fire with their chemistry alone. Loved that Hunter (who is a big dude) got to be cherished and protected, something he’s been doing for others most of his life. He was made to feel smol 🥺 Also, the disability rep! 👏🏻

The plot itself was interesting! I thought it might be similar to Soul Eater near the beginning but it diverted. I enjoyed the subtle commentary about the military. 👀 It definitely relates to issues in the present day US military. There was minimal angst. No one was denying their feelings or making unnecessary hurtful remarks. They both ask for what they want and talk things out like mature adults. 👏🏻

Seriously this was just so well done. I’m fully invested in this series and look forward to all the monsters Lily Mayne brings to us.

Hunter or as I like to refer to him; grumpy pants needs some cuddling enter big, purple and horny. Otherwise known as Edin. I love him but I just don’t know if he’s an idiot or super sarcastic. More than likely both.

I was having a hard time getting into this one until Wyn and Danny showed. Conveniently this is when Hunter finally got his dick wet. So a win-win all around.

More traveling, as to be expected. For a little variety, throw in a kidnapping and a fight club. I know so many people that would find this kind of world building super entertaining. Unfortunately, I’m not one of them. Make love and not war and all that.

Poor Charlie, I think Hunter and Edin were seriously out of line. He’s been through hell and then walked in on that. Apparently he’s not allowed to react, or get used to what’s going on before these assholes jump down his throat.

While I thought Edin and Hunter were seriously hot together, I mean who doesn’t love a giant cock and copious amounts of cum? I did think the chemistry was a bit lacking.

Having said that, I do understand Hunter’s one track mind in finding his best friend. I just wish we got more relationship building between our two lust birds. And yes, it was lust and not love, which is obviously part of my problem.

What can I say? I’m a simple girl who enjoys love stories. The more possessive, needy and emotional the better.

Loved it! (Not as much as the first one). But I truly enjoyed the longer burn in this one and seeing the change in the MC’s

And that’s it…I’m too tired to write a proper review 😬

I’m really sorry to say that but at this point I’m pretty disappointed.

For two books now I’ve wandered the Wastes with various characters without anyone explaining shit to me - neither what their surroundings look like (apart from abandoned towns and building) nor how the fuck they still find supplies and food in stores and gas stations or how the stuff works we’ve already encountered.

Quick example:

I hoped this town still had a water supply. The military kept the water and power going in the Wastes, […]

Huh? WHY? HOW? And same for electricity twenty years after abandoning shit? (granted, that’s more info than we got in book one about it) At this point I don’t know if the author simply expects me to just know things or to just go with the flow here without asking questions.

And with no more answers in sight I’m spending my time, consulting Google about stuff I could get an answer to like how the general landscape of various states in the US look like and what the fuck an MRE is. Because obvs everybody knows that but me.

Regarding the rest of the book well, there were only a few parts I found captivating but otherwise I was a whole lot bored and annoyed. Mostly bored, the romance between Edin and Hunter included. (Shame bc I really liked Edin in the first book but this was just dull.)

But I liked the ending. With Edin, Hunter and Charlie finding this homestead, what they had there for once made sense to me. No power there, tho. *lol

I’m still continuing with the series because I want to know about the Rycke next, I want the Wyn novella and ofc I want CharlieMoth! Hopefully y’all are right and I get some answers at some point. Until then I guess I’ll stay irritated with most of it all.

This series is going to be a new favorite, I just know it.

Hunter and his best friend Charlie have done everything together since they were kids. When they are trying to reconnect with the military in the beginning of the book, they get ambushed and Charlie gets taken by a group of monsters. Hunter gets recused from a sticky situation by Edin and the two of them follow closely behind Charlie's captives and try to find a way to get him free.

This was a great story. We got to see our friends from book 1, making this a series that should be read in order, as there is a linear timeline. We get to fall more in love with Edin, who is a good-natured but slightly Dominant big purple monster with a tail and teeth who wears a kilt!

Hunter is a grump and a bit of jerk in the beginning, but his reasons are valid and watching him slowly soften for Edin is beautiful.

I am loving how Lily Mayne tells her romances and I cannot wait to learn more about the Rycke in the next installment.

I seriously adore Edin. How can you not?! He is adorable and sexy rolled up into one giant purple package. I love how physically affectionate he is with everyone he loves - even Wyn.

I listened to the audiobook this time around and I loved Michael Lesley’s voices for everyone. Edin’s accent was very sexy. But Charlie?! 🥵🥵 I can’t wait for his book!

Other mentions this go around:
- I LOVE their nicknames for each other. They are so cute and really thoughtful. Scratch and Josdo 😍
The way Charlie thought Hunter was hurt when in reality he was just getting dicked down REAL good 🤣 And Edin’s ensuing attempt to make sure Charlie knows just who Hunter belongs to 🍆
- This one sets the scene for a lot of the books to come and it made me really excited for Cat & Lyri's book and to see how they met.

First Read - January 18, 2022

I really wanted Edin's story after we first met him in Soul Eater. He is Wyn's best (and let's be real ONLY friend). Edin is a huge, buff, purple monster that really is the epitome of sunshine. He is so funny, playful, witty, and caring (oh boy does this guy have such a beautiful, big heart).

He meets Hunter (our grumpy no-nonsense military man) out in the "Wastes" & proceeds to help him find his best friend that had been taken by some other monsters. I loved how Edin just steps up to help without even thinking twice. He is just that wonderful. And, of course Hunter sees this too and can't help but fall in love with him eventually.

There is also disability rep in this one - Hunter has a prosthetic leg. He is self-conscious about it but the way Edin shows him that it's just another aspect of who he is and he is into everything about Hunter was beautiful. We get to see Hunter start to get more comfortable with himself around Edin and there are some very cute caretaking scenes.

They also spend a lot of the book travelling just the two of them while tracking this other group of monsters so we once again have a kind of "forced proximity" thing going on.

Also I will say the sex scenes in this one were pretty hot 🥵 Hunter is not a small man and Edin is an even bigger monster - and both of them really like that the other one is so physically strong....
