Hell, yea! My heart is still beating for this dorky rivalry!! I think I'm twice more in love with this one now! Not sure if this is because of my lack of yaoi feeds for months now—or the fact that it's the right time to absorb this world once again. Nevertheless, Machi Suehiro, you're a genius, sensei!! I was literally swept off my feet and crying because of this beautiful art work!!
First Review ? June 11, 2023 Another enemies to lovers!! I really love me some rivals with the other one harboring feelings secretly. I'm dying out here, I swear. And the art style is so beautiful, I've been screaming my heart out!! Machi Suehiro's office yaoi is always good for the soul.
AAAAAAAA THAT RIGHT THERE THAT'S MY SHIT THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT
?Dibujo? Hermoso. ?Historia? Espectacular. ?Romance? Chef's kiss.
A steamy rivals-to-lovers rom-com manga Vol?1 that I enjoyed so f'ing much! This author's amazing ? with lovely art style.
Zen's grumpy perfectionist. Ryo's a sunshine friendly. High school rivals (with frenemies vibes!) who are reunited at workplace. They're hard-working, VERY competitive & sore losers (*cough* Zen)! Loved the lil flashbacks.
Their latest bet? is of LOVE ?. It's silly, ridiculous but the execution's *chef's kiss*. I laughed at their antics! There's spice (consensual & with prep ?) in almost each chapter ?. Yay to 1st times— I'm glad R's experienced ? (& prefers men, I don't see much of it in mangas).
There's little angst ?, due to hopeless romantic's unrequited love but soon it becomes requited ?. So cute!
Comic rating:
1) The Characters: 5/5 2) Art: 4.5/5 (not colored) 3) Story feels: ??????????????? 4) Sexy scenes: Multiple! 5) Cute/Fun: 4.5/5
This has the perfect balance of everything I love in a romance: tension, humor, and steaminess. And even with all the (endearing) ridiculousness, the connection between these two was still gentle, filled with longing, and strengthened by the kind of total acceptance that only love can bring.
Genuinely good Rivals to Lovers plot; hilarious at times, steamy at others. I loved it. I almost don’t want to read the second volume because it’s perfect where it is.
Ahhhh I totally loved this! I read a lot of manga as a teenager and then just stopped; I haven’t read a manga book in years. This one was recommended by a friend and I thought it sounded fun and ohhh my, I am glad I gave it a chance! This has definitely inspired me to pick up more manga again in the future!
Ryo and Zen are high-school rivals turned workplace rivals. Everything they do is a competition… including challenging each other to see who can make the other fall in love with them first! Terrible flirting, disastrous dates and some very inappropriate workplace conversations galore!
I absolutely love an idiots to lovers trope and oh boy, these two were absolute morons (for each other ??). Their rivalry is just hilarious and the sweet, tender parts were adorable. And the spice?! ? Let me just say, I’m glad I wasn’t reading this in public ??
Read Fake Fact Lips for: ? BL manga ? Rivals to lovers ? Workplace romance ? Idiots to lovers ? Terrible flirting ? Only dating for the competition… ? Or are they? ? Spiiiicy (be careful reading in public!) ? Adorable, heartfelt moments
Idk it was maybe a bit cliched but oh I ate it all up ? I mean I’ve read this kind of story thousands of times before but it just was perfect to wind-down to a Wednesday evening ???all the feels haha ? + quite some steamy scenes as well but like not over the top or anything it was just a good combo of both actually!
This is so ridiculous and they're both so stupid, but I like the romance. They argue a lot, but it doesn't feel malicious and more playful. Also Machi Suehiro's art style!! I love it. I enjoyed it more this time so I'm bumping up my rating a little. I'm looking forward to the sequel. I want to see some lovey dovey romance!
Probably 3.5? I think I might raise the rating on a reread; I read the first half when I was really exhausted and not able to fully connect with the story. Some of it felt a little tropey...I've read a fair amount of similar stories, I suppose, and the "competition" part of this one was a little silly and didn't tip it over into extra-memorable territory.
But I did like that more as it went on; it's sort of competition as a love language (reminds me a lot of Matchablossom from SK8, actually, although this one of course goes full-on BL). The reality is, as Ryo finally admits, he never actually cared in the slightest about winning competitions. He just used them as an excuse to continually spend time with Zen: back in high school, when they first met, and when they unexpectedly ruined again at work, years later.
Zen gradually starts to realize some of this on his own, before Ryo fully confesses. Once Ryo distances himself a little bit, Zen starts to feel the loss - not of their stupid competitive squabbles, but of all the time Ryo spent taking him out to meals, hanging out with him as a friend, finding ways to force him to take care of himself and relax a bit from work. Even though they were competing so hard at work to be the best salesman, their connection was actually what kept Zen from going overboard and working himself to a breaking point.
A lot of this ties back to high school, too. Ryo felt a ton of pressure from his parents to be the best at everything, and Zen was the one who told him that he had to think about making himself happy, too, not just his father. Then there's Zen, who threw himself into everything to try to live up to his own inferiority complex from having a Perfect Older Brother. Pursuing a rivalry with Ryo instead of trying to live up to his brother's ideal image gave him something a lot more tangible and a lot more fun to work towards.
It also gave him someone who sees all his weaknesses and pettiness and flaws and still likes him. Which is the big realization Zen has when he's at a mixer with The Ideal Woman and can only think about the guy who's always pushing his buttons but who's the only person who genuinely knows the real him, and likes him for it.
I do still think the beginning, with the stupid "we'll sleep with each other until one of us loses by falling in love first" bet is ... well, kind of stupid, and a little wobbly on the storytelling front. But it gets better as it goes on and turns into a more substantial story about more complex people and a relationship that's always been a bit different from the norm, but which works for the two of them. I like that they keep bickering and competing at work even after they get together, but with a new softness to it that even their coworkers have finally grown to understand. I have hopes for the sequel!
Are you looking for a rivals-to-lovers story with an emphasis on romance? Check out Fake Fact Lips and Fake Fact Lips Break–Machi Suehiro’s tempestuous office romance!
I had no idea what to expect from Fake Fact since I didn’t read the summary until sitting down to review it. But I was pleasantly surprised! The story got me from page one and their hilarious, childlike banter attached me to them in record time. Zen is so cute! I love him so much, haha!
Your mileage may vary with the story. Most of the plot stems from the leads’ competitive streak and might start feeling repetitive and predictable. The character development is surface-level, but I think it’s “just right” for the length of the manga. Plus, what I’ve caught in Break has provided additional context. I’m pretty picky and didn’t mind.
Overall, I enjoyed this series a lot! The romance is so sweet. Not to mention, the spicy scenes are… gorgeous. The blushy portraits, the gratuitous amount of kissies (yes, many more kissies here!), and the way these two are so in sync are a joy to witness!
Who is this manga for This one is for fans of office romance and rivals to lovers!
This was a surprisingly fun and quirky tory, with a sweet storyline.
I'll admit, I went into this expecting high heat and not much story, but actually, there was masses of story and background. Zen Shito and Ryo Yotsuya have been in competition since high school and into work, where they're always pitting themselves against each other over stupid things, like who can drink a beer quicker, who can close a sale first. That inevitably leads to crossing boundaries, where they challenge each other to see who will fall for the other first.
Ryo is a total smooth operator, while Zen is an adorable but oblivious dumbass. They make for an amazing couple, with great chemistry.
A rivals to lovers story about two men, Ryo and Zen, who take being competitive to a whole new level. During a night of drinking, the two decide their next competition will be to see who can make the other fall in love with them first. I'm a sucker for idiots falling in love, and this is definitely that.
This is so dumb and a lot of fun and I really enjoyed all of it. The dynamic between Ryo and Zen is really funny and also quite sweet at times. The art is really lovely too. If you're ever looking for a BL romcom, this fits the bill.
OMG THE AUTHOR HAS THE SAME BIRTHDAY AS ME - 01/22
ANYWAYS, LOVED THIS A LOT. as of now, i don't remember much but really enjoyed this one and definitely need to reread and read the other volumes SOON ?
?Everything…his hands, his words, everything we did…I don’t want them to be all lies.?
Rivals to lovers is one of my favourite tropes and I think the author did a good job with this story. I liked Zen and Ryo's banter and how they motivate each other to do better. I also ADORE the art style and Zen and Ryo are so pretty, which makes their more intimate scenes such a feast for the eyes. There are only 7 chapters so it's a short and sweet story with a sprinkle of angst.
Fun, fast-paced rivals-to-lovers! I enjoyed this one and was happy to see some depth to the characters. While some parts were predictable, it was still fun to read and to see both of them navigating their feelings in their stupidest-yet competition. Zen is an airhead with his heart in the right place, and Ryo is also an airhead, but at least he has his feelings figured out ? Will probably pick up volume 2 when it is translated!
