A former actor, theatre-director and drama teacher, Deary says he began writing when he was 29. Most famously, he is one of the authors of the Horrible Histories series of books popular among children for their disgusting details, gory information and humorous pictures and among adults for getting children interested in history. Books in the series have been widely translated into other languages and imitated.
A cartoon series has been made of the series of books and was shown on CiTV for a period in 2002.
The first series of a live-action comedy sketch show of the same name was shown on CBBC in 2009 and a second series is due.
Terry is also known widely throughout children and adult reading groups alike for his True Stories series (see below for series list).
He received an Honorary Doctorate of Education from the University of Sunderland in 2000. His numerous accolades also include the Blue Peter "Best Nonfiction Author of the Century" Award in the U.K.
I listened to this on audiobook. This short tale is about grave robbers (or more accurately tomb raiders) of ancient Egypt. Specifically, it is a fictional stab at what may have happened at Tutankhamen's tomb before the Europeans got to it in the 1920's. The tomb showed evidence that it may have been targeted for an attempted robbery a very long time ago. I wasn't aware of this, so this was a nice little nugget of knowledge to glean from this book.
King Tutanhkhamen has been buried in his rocky tomb. Grave robbers devise an elaborate plan to steal King Tutanhkhamen's riches after his funeral. A motley gang of villains have all the skills they need to undertake the crime - the key member of the team is young Paneb, who is small enough to slip through the tunnel and into the funeral chamber.
Cleverly spun tale with suspense and surprise about some greedy grave robbers who learn their lesson the hard way, or at least some of them do! Good way for kids to learn about Ancient Egyptian burial rituals. Surprised by reference to young boy drinking beer and graphic description of being nailed to the wall of Thebes, considering it's a Chapters Book for 6-8 year olds.

This is a quick read of historical fiction, based on possible real events during Ancient Egypt, with would be tomb raiders was not as well done as the other books in this series. The afterward portion was by far the best part quickly discussing some of the discoveries of tombs, particularly Tutankhamen’s.
This short children's book has a clever story about a group of tomb raiders, and some information on Egyptian tombs as well. I know some children who will love it. I myself are more a fan of the Horrible Histories series.
