alia Sharpe figured that once she'd accepted her legacy as a witch and the protector of the power of Mesquite Springs, she could settle into small town life and just go with the flow. The thing about power, though, is that if someone has it, someone else is going to want it.
Plus, it's hard to make friends in a new town when most of the people you meet are murder suspects and the death of a local cafe owner has everyone pointing fingers.
There's only so much Aunt Eleanor can do in her current non-corporeal state, and Talia still has a lot to learn about her own abilities and her place in Mesquite Springs. Fortunately the town has other guardians, too, because it's going to take all of them to figure out who -- or what -- is behind the latest threat to Mesquite Springs.
Hill Country Witches is a new series from the creator of Jake & Boo. Familial Haunts picks up immediately after the events in Not a Witch, but can be read on its own.
Very well written the book moves along smoothly ending with two rather tense moments. The characters are interesting and likeable with the villian being truly horrible. The folksy setting and charm was just enough to make the reader warm to the setting with being Mayberry levels of gagging sweetness. Ms. Kirby slipped in a whole lot of philosophy and ethics without making it feel forced.
