Muslim theologian and philosopher Abu Hamid al-Ghazali of Persia worked to systematize Sufism, Islamic mysticism, and in The Incoherence of the Philosophers (1095) argued the incompatibility of thought of Plato and Aristotle with Islam.
Born in 1058, Ab奴 岣つ乵id Mu岣mmad ibn Mu岣mmad al-Ghaz膩l墨 ranked of the most prominent and influential Sunni jurists of his origin.
Islamic tradition considers him to be a Mujaddid, a renewer of the faith who, according to the prophetic hadith, appears once every century to restore the faith of the ummah ("the Islamic Community"). His works were so highly acclaimed by his contemporaries that al-Ghazali was awarded the honorific title "Proof of Islam" (Hujjat al-Islam).
Al-Ghazali believed that the Islamic spiritual tradition had become moribund and that the spiritual sciences taught by the first generation of Muslims had been forgotten.[24] That resulted in his writing his magnum opus entitled Ihya 'ulum al-din ("The Revival of the Religious Sciences"). Among his other works, the Tah膩fut al-Fal膩sifa ("Incoherence of the Philosophers") is a significant landmark in the history of philosophy, as it advances the critique of Aristotelian science developed later in 14th-century Europe.
Second to the Quran, never has a book affected my spirituality so positively. I plan to re-read this in the future because it is full of wonderful thoughts, reminders, and ideas. I recommend it to everybody in it's entirety.
ihya ulum-addin is one book that changed my heart,my mind,my attitude. so many knowledge,so many wisdoms. couldn' say no more..this book is so 'direct to your heart'..
Where do I begin? This book has changed my life in so many ways, that a few words are not enough. It is a must read for every Muslim who would want a summary of understanding of our deen, Islam. The way Imam Al-Ghazali approached this book, reflects the genius of his mind and the depth of his writing. He starts from zero and travels beautifully to one. This book helps you start from scratch, build your faith and Knowledge brick by brick to strengthen it accordingly. In the end of some chapters, it fills you with content that cannot be described and at times, it moves your insides that will make you ponder on your past. A lot of credit needs to be given to the translator, Marwan Khalaf who made sure that no stone was unturned. Although, this book is the summary of Magnum Opus Ihya Ulum ad din from Arabic, and it has been beautifully summarised by the translator, who is gifted with a good understanding of English language. I could imagine that translating a work like this from Arabic to English is a tough task, but it鈥檚 been thoroughly done and amplified to the best of the translators effort. I have been recently informed online that Mr Marwan Khalaf passed away in October, 2019. May Allah rest his soul in peace. The Amount of time and energy it took from me for me to read and grasp this book exceeds by far all the other books I have ever read. After finishing every chapter /quarter, you get this sense of freshness inside your being which i have never experienced with any other worldly book. My guide, who suggested me this book introduced it as something that is in the order after the Quran and Hadeeth and I haven鈥檛 felt any less. In short, Ihya Ulum ad din is by every word a Magnum Opus. SubhanAllah! May Allah be pleased with Imam Al-Ghaz膩li and reward Marwan Khalaf for his efforts in the Hereafter. Ameen.
Muslims please beware. This is not authored by Imam Ghazali. Furthermore the original book Ihy芒鈥 鈥榰l没 has the most fabricated hadith among any Islamic book to date. However a book Mukhtasar Minhaj al-Qasidin By Ibn Qudamah is the book which has full edit. All fabricated and weak hadiths were removed and still the useful part of the imam ghazali masterpiece were kept.
I must say I struggled to complete this book. It took me a while. Either the English was too high level for me or the information was to difficult for me to grasp. Nevertheless I finished it. Beautiful book with wealth of information. Hopefully will return to it someday with more knowledge.
