It all starts with a single dead person coming back to life. Within three days, the undead have taken over most of town. Despite heroic efforts and swift initiatives from the government, disaster keeps spiraling. Soon, the infection reaches the nation's borders, threatening to become a worldwide pandemic.
Iwrite stories about the apocalypse so that I don't need to work a real job. I grew up reading Stephen King and still haven't fully recovered. I'm currently ending the world in my new series Under the Breaking Sky.

Zombie genre fans will not want to miss Nick Clausen's Dead Meat series The storyline is overflowing with nonstop Zombie action, descriptive graphics, and exceptionally well-developed characters.
Gotta give kudos to my favorite character, Ozzy the dog. What a loyal, brilliant and fearless Zombie assassinating pooch. Love him.
Narrator Matthew Crow is amazing. His performance for the full 38+ hours duration of this nine book series never faltered and kept my heart racing from start to finish. Thank you.
I was hooked from the beginning and had chosen my favorite character. I had to read each and every DAY, keeping my fingers crossed that he would survive...after all, NIck Clausen has no trouble killing them off. Non stop action and suspense. Some of the DAYS I rated 5s and some 4s. Seeing there are no half stars, I am going to jump off the deep end and give it my all...
It is an ok read, not bad at all and i found the concept very intriguing in the beginning, until it wasn’t anymore. Not having main characters you are invested in or can identify yourself with, ended up being the problem for me with this book and I lost interest in it several times till I gave up at about 25% mark.
Zombies apocalypse with a twist! Thoroughly enjoyed this series and will definitely read more by Nick. Generally well written, esp for someone whose first language isn't English - much better than some American authors I've read recently!
I really enjoy Clausen's zombie world. Writing is strong, characters are interesting and believable, his undead are scary and unrelenting. Enjoyed reading the entire series. Well worth the credit.
DNF. Somebody mentioned that the writing is “sophomoric and that’s the perfect word to describe it.
“The people were black. That’s the description.
Also, apparently if you see a shambling old woman your first thoughts should logically be it’s a zombie. Your thoughts should also be that you have watched “The Walking Dead and played “Resident Evil. I shit you not.
Great story if it’s your final project for your junior year in high school. I have no idea how there are so many glowing reviews but I worry about our society
Also, the person narrating this book on Audible is about as lively as a dead cow. Maybe he is embracing his inner “Dead Meat?
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to read such a long series but I’m so glad I did. Unlike most it starts out knowing how the zombie apocalypse starts which was a brilliant idea of the author. Through tragedy and loss a few people come together to try and survive and help human kind. Everyone has to stop what they are doing and gets these to read. I’m sure no one will be disappointed!
Holy cow! What a series. At first I was like ok, everyone is getting killed off, and wondered who the main characters would be. I was pleased with who the author chose.
This was a page turner that kept me wanting to read and read, especially the last books. I finished the last 3 books on New Years Day. I couldn't stop reading, I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see what happened!
Great series and highly recommend, especially if you are into zombies.
As a zombie fan, I really enjoyed this series. A lot happened in just 9 days! I loved that each book introduced new characters and their stories, but had a constant presence by regular characters and saw glimpses of characters from the previous book(s).
I love zombies and this is by far the best zombie content I have come across so far. At first, the writing style was throwing me off a little bit because each chapter was coming from a different characters POV. I got used to it quickly though, and I actually enjoyed that it was like that. Sometimes it was frustrating because you get so invested with what's going on with whatever character you are currently reading about- but the cliffhangers keep you devouring the books.
The characters were great! The ones you like are so well written and real. So are the ones you hate. I would LOVE to see this as a series or a movie because wow!
Such a different zombie infection concept. I honestly loved this series and cannot say enough good things about it!
The only complaint I have is the repetitive use of "Jesus Christ" and "GD" as curse words. It's not enough to deter me from reading the series again or buying it. It's just a personal preference. I've never liked reading or hearing God's name used in vain. I realize not everyone is like me in that way- but some people are, so I did want to include that just as a head's up. The books are still well worth reading!
I absolutely loved these books. I found myself staying up half the night because I kept wanting to see what happened next. The characters were relatable and I had my favorites from the very beginning. If you are a fan of Zombies this is the one to read. I’m excited to start the next one.
I’ve been looking for a book like this for a loooong time.
One that focuses on the beginning and capturing the chaos and confusion just before everything falls apart.
My only nitpick is, I wasn’t a huge fan of every single character making the wrong decision every single time.
But aside from that I still thought this was an enjoyable ride with a take on the genre that was fresh enough to really keep my interest beyond 15 hours into it.
My favorite Zombie apocalypse book so far! Nick Clausen is a genius writer! I didn't want it to end. I listened to it on audible and the narrator was a perfect match! It just doesn't get better than this!
Brigit was pregnant on day 0, somehow she forgot to be pregnant later on, that really bothered my enjoyment of the story. Also i just finished Cadaver series, and it’s much the same.
It had a nice ending though. But i feel like a LOT of plotlines got forgotten 🙁
First, be prepared that this is religious propaganda. While it’s not overly shoveled down your throat it is the crux of the story.
There is absolutely no reason to have so many of the same stories/introductions eating up that many pages. The initial introduction on how it started and a couple of others to show its progression is fine. Showing how it snowballs is fine too. But the first 1/3 of this way-too-long story is the same copy/paste story as an intro to all the main characters. Even reiterating the same exact information about the fever, the green tint, the cooling of the body, and the eyes. We understand the mechanism no need to beat us over the head with it!
Weird nonsensical contrived drama. Will picks up Mila from the street on his own and carries her around in his car for what seems like forever without even checking for a wound and has no concerns. He picks up Dan and is like only a couple of blocks away from his house but adamantly refuses to go back and there’s no time but when Mila wakes up he’s willing to take her alllllll the way back where she was no issues? And then he’s all “we can’t let you in the car without checking yourself. Based on the million times we’ve been told so far she would have turned long ago if she was infected so why make such a big deal about checking her now?!? And he took her! Seems more like just an excuse for boys to catch a look at a girl undressing.
Most of the deaths are the result of absolute buffoonery. I half expect to hear the clown circus music playing in the background hearing how most of the people are getting attacked. Even people who have early awareness that it’s zombies and yet no one thinks to get a weapon of any kind and they all just kind of stand around waiting to get chomped. It’s way too easy and far too forced to just fill pages.
Paranoia doesn’t make you talk to yourself. This seems like a pretty glossed over and pisspoor job of using a mental illness as a contrivance and failed at it because the writer didn’t even bother to give any research towards the actual mental illness and it’s repeatedly just glossed over for the sake of explaining why he has this set up. Would have been easier and less offensive to just say he was a prepper.
What does Mila mean “who says mourning and that it’s an old fashion way of talking? This is a perfectly acceptable manner of speech. What else would she say? Grieving? Either are used pretty equally and commonly. Once again this is forced contrivance for plot purposes and is utterly unnecessary.
COULDN’T CARE LESS - for crying out loud! If you’re going to claim to be a writer at least get the basics down! It’s not “could care less.
Is the author expecting the readers to believe that about a week into this authorities and people in general would be so flippant about the virus and wouldn’t take a report of an infected person seriously or already know they’re dead? Social media would be going wild at this point. News media would be on-sight and absolutely getting sensationalism videos. There is no way that a week in most people wouldn’t be more informed and the military wouldn’t be fully deployed.
Why would Mila think letting everyone off be the solution instead of just kicking the dude off and letting everyone travel again.
The author really thinks his readers are idiots or just likes to waste space by saying stupid stuff like “it’s becoming morning which means it’s getting lighter. Gee I’m so glad he told me how the morning and sun work I never would have figured it out.
Mila seems smart and there’s all this built up issue with her mom but really she refuses to even hesitate that the mom would have released him much less refuses to then think she was the one who releases him? Why make her stupid all of a sudden for needless tension.
The writer is barely handling the ensemble cast so far why introduce even more people is mind blowing. But then we are to expect by this point we are to assume “Brian doesn’t know what’s going on and will citizen arrest “axe thinking it’s just a random accident?
How high does the writer think ferries are that jumping from the decks would be fatal? People can survive falls off cruise ships and even bridges surely even a large ferry isn’t anywhere near high enough to be fatal when hitting the water. The only risks would be propellers or hypothermia but given how much we are repeatedly beaten over the head with how hot it’s been that doesn’t sound like an issue either.
If she’s muttering her usual midday prayer why would her son ask if it was morning?
Needs basic editing help for things like ending sentences with propositions. “Talk with uncle Kent about could have easily been changed to “talked about with uncle Kent to make it correct. Or “her words SNAKING out over her lips like SNAKES
So there’s a border lockdown and it’s getting into Germany and this has been happening for about a week but people are still working at fast food joints for them to pick up food?
Why would the first logical step be that she is religious so she’s fighting it? Why wouldn’t it be that she just has some kind of natural immunity? So her parents were religious even though her dad was a preacher?
Why is Eli making a big deal about taking his shoe off and why would he think his word means anything. Zero sense and unnecessary attempt as tension and contrived strife when it’s already been established. Just get on the damn helicopter already!!!!! The scenes stretching out endlessly trying to induce emotions or drama or tension often fail miserably and go on way too long. I started fast forwarding 3-5 mins worth out of every 10 mins
Why play out the whole scene with the two brothers then just repeat it in a recap IMMEDIATELY (like literal next sentence!) after with Dennis? It’s ongoing issues of this that just weigh the book down with unnecessary pages.
Eli METICULOUSLY makes his way to Ali? Methodically, maybe.
How did the undead get to the same place as iver and gang when they were on a life boat and the zombies were just floating. Most of the story we are told how they have no Brian function and just stand pushing at fences and such so it’s not like they were actually swimming. How did they float to land so fast?
Does the dog know how to stop or let go any other way besides reluctantly?
Omg we get it iver doesn’t like Chris!
It’s bad enough there’s already so much needless repetition but now the writer is rewriting segments from different POVs!
How many times the voodoo has been mentioned and after they go through all that and get that far Dan suddenly has the brainchild to go all the way back?
Yes waving your arms is a sign for needing help. Iver is on foot and surrounded by zombies how is that not someone needing help? Also, wouldn’t you want to make movement to help separate yourself from the zombies and to help catch someone’s eyes from a distance? What a stupid and pointless thing to even include.
Why would liv’s clothes be so heavy if they’re in summer. Wouldn’t it be at most tee shirt and shorts?
Unless they have some kind of open wound why would the zombies lungs be full of water? They’re not breathing so they’re not inhaling it.
Why was b important for Chris to out iver? Was it necessary to use the f-slur? No, not really.
All this time how is ozzy eating or drinking?
Seriously William never thought to check the dead lady’s pockets for keys? All this time he never thought to look?!?!?
Liv can hear the zombies under the hum of the car - the car she turned off? Then writing about it dying.
Why keep the car on the well and not try to lure the zombies away? Keeping it there makes him trapped
Lol why would anyone at this point even ask what anyone knows about death? Pretty much everyone in the general region has lost at least someone if not all their family.
She closes her eyes and dies but the next paragraph the writer has her eyes open starring into nothing.
Why would they have to try it on the zombies outside when she said explicitly it the one sacrifice would work for all the infected
Didn’t the writer just give exposition about how the spell couldn’t be reversed and the people who were dead are dead but then directly contradicts all of that.
Why would William say they should check the lady and others first like any of them have any kind of medical knowledge. Just give people a phone and food and get the cure posted. The whole book is littered with just utter nonsense like this.
Again - not “meticulously. Iver is methodically using the coin to unscrew the bar.
Omg all the characters spend so much time and energy with expositing “what ifs just do the thing. It doesn’t matter. Things can’t get worse and can only improve doing whatever the thing is. Just shut up and do it already.
Dan and liv are like “it’s a big city to explain how they never met before yet somehow everyone involved in the story all knew or met or magically is connected before. If you’re going to have such extreme “coincidence then don’t draw contrary attention with stuff like responses that just blows it off.
More than a week into this and this is the first fire? Fires would have been started early and frequently even just from accidents or someone being attacked while cooking and that burning or at a gas station or any other number of things not to mention anarchy/riots (which is never mentioned).
You know the writer has totally lost control of the story when they think a drop of holy water in the ocean would magically turn all water into healing water and that’s how the nuclear war will be stopped. He wrote himself into a dead end and came up with the most ridiculous way out.
All the way to the end and NOW he comes up with the mad max junk? And why are they so doubtful of the cure if they pulled up to liv’s house they would have seen the horde that Dan just fought off
Sniffling? He probably means sniveling?
Seriously? Did this writer just put that the world is cruel with no second chances and no miracles when the entire book was nothing but ex machina bs coincidence miracles? Lol like we are going to believe that after he spent the whole time telling us otherwise including that absolutely unbelievable bs about the cat and it being the only house it happened to? What a ridiculous last ditch pathetic attempt at pulling the heart strings - it was pure manipulation and far more infuriating that you think you can pull one over on the reader then actually inducing any sentimental emotional from us.
Absolutely enjoyed every moment! Beautifully wrapped up story. Great storyline and I loved the characters. Great storytelling with an actual storyline. 👌
Loved it! Not your normal zombie story. Keeps you turning the page. Definitely doesn't disappoint! Twists and turns you wouldn't expect make this an excellent read.
I couldn’t put this series down. I loved how you were introduced to new characters and how it would change to different characters situations like a tv show or movie does. I was on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed the story telling and the ending! Highly recommend!
When I first started this book, I figured it was your regular every day zombie book. Which was fine, because that’s what I like to read. But then something happened Things changed and it became something different than your regular every day zombie book it became more and better and after 1400 pages it’s become one of my favorite zombie books ever. I’ve always loved the zombie genre and reading something totally new but with characteristics of other zombie books was wonderful. I can’t wait to read other books by this author!
Because then our world isn't so bad after all. An unlikely group set out to survive and ends up saving the world. No, thank goodness it's not an academy scenario. It's a group of all ages combining their strengths and weaknesses. With a new twist on uncontrollable zombies by voodoo and a cure that is almost spiritual. It shows mankind in all its evil as well as the ability to sacrifice for others. It is not a gore fest nor is there a lot of sex. I enjoyed this one.
I love post-apocalyptic stories; and series; and zombies. What's not to love? And then - you add a twist on the cause, effects, and resolution. The only thing I would change? WRITE MORE ABOUT THESE CHARACTERS
The book is super awesome and wonderfully constructed. Giving it at one day at a time is brilliant. Though this is beautiful I didn't finish it because I have seen way too many zombie flicks and walking dead to know however it seems, it will hit us hard. And I get super anxious to know how it turns out and in the case of movies and series, I can drag it but I don't want to do that for books too. So I am not finishing it. I have finished the first 3 days of the apocalypse. Frankly I don't want to read people behaving like Negan or the Governor (WALKING DEAD fans will know)....
I like to read before bed, but this book kept me up way past bed time more than once. The suspense and excitement kept me reading more to the point of exhaust. A must read book for fantasy fans.
