Elizabeth Holloway's sparkling world comes crashing down around her when her boyfriend of seven years drops the bomb that he’s leaving her—at Christmas. In an attempt to piece her life back together, she suddenly finds herself seven hundred miles from her New York City home, trudging through the snow, back at her childhood farm in the Great Smoky Mountains.
And she isn’t expecting to meet visitor Paul Dawson with his dazzlingly blue eyes and warm smile, chipping away at her resolve to focus on figuring out who she is and what she really wants in life.
Just when she starts to think things are moving in the right direction, a stack of letters from Elizabeth’s grandmother will change everything she thought she knew about her family and cause a divide between her and Paul that she never saw coming.
Under the glitter of Christmas trees and bundles of mistletoe, Elizabeth uncovers more than she’d ever imagined. Will the Christmas letters strip her of everything she holds dear? Or will they be the biggest gift of the season?

After being dumped by her boyfriend, at Christmas no less, Liz goes back home to Tennessee with her tail between her legs. She has no job, no experience, and is questioning her life choices. I love the way the author made me really feel the atmosphere of the smokey mountains. Farm life, a snowstorm, decorating and cooking for the holidays. This book was like a warm hug, it takes place in a cozy town and has relatable characters. Jenny Hale has made me want to visit Tennessee in winter, especially to ride horses in the snow. I knew how it was going to turn out almost right away. Like Elizabeth and Paul enough as a couple but they didn't make me swoon. I was glad Liz found her happiness in the end.
Elizabeth is very fortunate to have a mom and her grandma's friend Beatrice around as they give really good advice. I adored Liz's grandmother's letters, they were so sweet and lovely. Reminded me of my own grandmother whose birthday was last week. If she were still alive she'd only be a few years older than Elizabeth's gran.
This was such a sweet book that put me in the holiday spirit. From snow storms to hot chocolates loaded with whipped cream I was feeling very festive while reading this romance. I drooled over all the food that is mentioned, and of course the drinks...spiced coffee and loaded hot chocolate, anyone!? Overall an okay, feel good, quick read. A story about the holidays but also about family and falling in love.
Great Christmas story. I enjoyed the characters. I kinda knew from the start Paul had something to do with the mother and daughter’s dilemma, and the happy ending was welcome. Paul’s father was a surprise. Overall, a great novel to curl up with and read to relax.
"You can't always control what life gives you, but you can control your destiny within it."
The Christmas Letters takes place in Mason's Ridge, Tennessee and is truly delightful. Liz Holloway is back home after a major life upheaval and is dealing with the guilt of not being around and not being there for her mother. Upon her arrival to town she stops at a newly developed coffee shop and meets Paul, a commercial developer. As Liz is trying to find her place in her hometown she attends the birthday party of her late grandmothers' best friend. She gives her a stack of letters that are penned by her grandmother who is writing to her lover during the war. The only problem, it's not her grandfather...at first. Who is this man and what are these letters trying to tell her?
Before long Liz is queued in on a letter her mother received that states they need to vacate the property and it is going to be developed on. They can't lose their farm -it's their everything. Maybe Paul can help?
This love story is so classic and wholesome that I couldn't get enough. This book is dripping with Christmas nostalgia -from the baking, to the snow storms, to the time spent together, and the big Christmas gatherings -it was perfect. I've read 9 of Hale's books now, several of those have been 5 stars, but this one...100 stars and my new favorite.
Jenny, you have given readers a Christmas gift. I hope you never stop writing.
This was the best book. Hale never disappoints me. I loved going to the farm for Christmas and the ending was the best. Liz and Paul with pull at your heartstrings and leave you wishing you could spend Christmas with everyone in the small town. I gave this Christmas treat 5 stars and I can't wait for Hales next book.
My Review: Jenny Hale has penned another Christmas story set in the Great Smoky Mountains. The Christmas Letters is a lovely, feel good and easy read. Her beautiful use of descriptions sets up a clear, stunning image of Holloway's small town roots that I was so absorbed in. I love the way she builds the story. And sets the scene. The snowy weather and cozy atmosphere makes this a perfect book to sit down and read during the holidays. Jenny seriously transports you from your location to the Smoky Mountains. An amazing story about life, love, family, friend's and finding your place in the world. Hale sure knows how to get her readers in the holiday spirit. The characters as always are so relatable. You feel as if you've known them for some time. Another story written by Hale is so captivating and sweet it was one I wished lasted 300 more pages. I never hesitate to pick up a book by Jenny. Because sometimes it's just what I need.
Make yourself a delicious drink, grab your favorite softest blanket and get all cozy on the couch and hope this gorgeous book up and get lost inside the pages. Because this is one of the greatest reads I've read this month!
My Synopsis: Elizabeth Holloway's life is going great, until its not. Her boyfriend of seven years gives her the devastating news that he is leaving her... at Christmas. Trying to put her life back together she decides to drive seven hundred miles from her rush and grind New York City home, through the snow back to her childhood farm in the Great Smoky Mountains
What she isn't expecting is to meet new in town Paul Dawson. Flashing his pretty blue eyes and gorgeous smile. Distracting her. While she is trying to figure out who she is what she is wants in life.
And when she just starts to feel as though things are going in the right direction, a plie of shocking letters from Elizabeth’s grandmother will change everything she thought she knew or thought about her family and cause a shift between her and Paul that she never saw coming.
Will the Christmas letters strip her of everything she holds dear? Or will they be the biggest gift of the season?
Thank You, Jenny Hale and Harpeth Road Press for this beautiful advanced ebook!
When Liz Holloway’s boyfriend dumps her before Christmas, she leaves New York City and returns to her childhood home. She had left the farm behind seven years ago and never looked back, but now she finds herself appreciating the solace she finds there. This time is made even sweeter by reminiscing over her grandmother’s letters and a handsome stranger.
This was every bit the heart warming, feel good holiday story I needed this season! Liz was incredibly relatable, trying to find her own way in life, and I loved how she was still able to connect to her grandmother through her letters. The matriarch of the family was very much a part of this story and it was so sweet. Thank you to Jenny Hale for the complimentary audiobook!
This review will be shared to my Instagram blog (@books_by_the_bottle) shortly.
Though this follows a sometimes overdone trope of big business eating up small town folk at Christmas, the characters are real, the relationships dynamic, and a surprise twist at the end lent originality to the story.
The Christmas Letters is a well-written, heartwarming story of renewed relationships, second chances, and new horizons. I recommend for those readers who enjoy clean romance and women’s fiction.
I love all of Jenny Hale’s books! She writes about dreamy towns where people value connection and each other. While this is a holiday romance, it is also so much more. This book, like so many of her others, connects the past to the present through familial ties. This book is a dream and makes me eager for the holidays to roll around and also makes me wish for a future in a town just like this. All of her books make me want to find the towns she writes about! Thank you for the ARC!
3.5/4 stars - what started off as cute book about Elizabeth/Liz returning to her hometown after a decade, reconnecting with her loved ones, and learning from her last relationship turns into yet another romantic relationship. There was a lot of opportunity to use the space to share about the love of family, neighbors, and neighbors that have become family, and the romance with Paul felt incredibly forced. We learned little to nothing about their development and he initially lied to her about why he was in town. I don’t think a romance was really needed here and I feel like it would’ve been better off without it, or a lot more of a deep dive into it. Liz was coming out of a 7 year toxic relationship, just to jump back into one with Paul? I would’ve appreciated it more if she spent more time reflecting and reconnecting with her roots before that relationship started.

Elizabeth Holloway loves her life and she loves the hustle and bustle of New York City. Especially at Christmas time when the snow is falling and all the beautiful Christmas parties at the Ritz as she loves to dance the Christmas Waltz. But this Christmas is turning out to be so much different than she ever expected. Instead of dancing the waltz, her boyfriend Richard of seven years breaks up with her, at the Ritz. Elizabeth soon finds herself at home for the Holidays. Mason’s Ridge, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. She arrives at her childhood farmhouse and is helping her mother sort through her late Nan’s will. She meets Paul Dawson and a friendship flourishes. But while sorting through the will, Elizabeth discovers a stack of Christmas letters written by her grandmother. Will the letters bring Paul and Elizabeth closer together or will they tear them apart forever?
Let the temperatures drop and the snow fly because this little gift of a story is sure to warm you from the inside out. I loved this book so much. THe relatable characters kept me flying through the pages. This story launched me into the Christmas season and the detailed description of Mason’s Ridge in the Great Smoky Mountains, made me feel at home in Tennessee. While reading, this heartwarming novel made me reminisce about the past and missing a love of writing letters. This unputdownable and unforgettable read is one that will stay with me forever. I can only hope that this one will become a movie. I loved this book from beginning to end. Please don’t pass up an opportunity to read this one, I highly recommend it.
Thank you Jenny Hale for such a phenomenal story. I have read every book you have written and I would have to say this one is my absolute favorite. Wow.I loved it!!!
The Christmas Letters by bestselling author of romantic contemporary fiction Jenny Hale is a heartwarming holiday romance.
Sometimes the path we choose is not where we are meant to be.
Elizabeth Holloway grew up in Mason’s Ridge, Tennessee with the intent of getting out and spreading her wings. She never felt like she quite fit in her small town or with the people within. She wanted to be a social worker and go into the Peace Corps and work in faraway places. Elizabeth had only managed one of her goals and that was leaving her small town and everyone in it, over a decade ago.
Elizabeth’s world comes crashing down at a New York party at The Plaza , when her boyfriend of seven years tells her he’s leaving her. She finds herself back at her childhood farm in the Great Smoky Mountains to try and put her life back together.
What Elizabeth doesn’t expect is meeting Paul Dawson with those gorgeous blue eyes or her mother informing her that they don’t actually own the farm that’s been in the family for generations.
Can a stack of letters from Elizabeth’s grandmother uncover more than she ever thought possible and lead her to where she is meant to be.
What I loved about this story was that it was set in a place a bit old fashioned. A small town where neighbors relied on one another and didn’t need anything but each other.
First, I want to thank Jenny Hale and Harpeth Road Press with this book so I can bring you this review.
Ohh the princess of Christmas Jenny Hale is back and better that ever in The Christmas Letters! Then again it wouldn’t be Christmas without a creative and beautifully written book by her! She will touch your heart, put a smile on your face, and make you believe in love again.
Kristen Ingebretson is incredibly gifted and so talented when it comes to creating The Christmas Letters picturesque cover! The colors and the graphics just pop and grab your eye!
One thing I love about Jenny is she picks storylines that are near and dear to her heart. This time around it is the incredibly close bond Elizabeth had with her Nan. This was shown in flashbacks where she would give Elizabeth good advice.
My favorite part of the whole story was the emotional roller coaster that the physical Christmas letters had on the story. In these letters we the readers learn right along Elizabeth all about the life that Nan lived.
WOW!! Speechless is how I would say I reacted to the out of the blue shocking revelation that I am still trying to wrap my emotions and brain around. It was just WOW! I even teared up a little at the turn of events.
This is such a sweet story that you must add to your TBR list.
A Hallmark-style story with a happy ending. Much needed this time of year.
Elizabeth runs away to New York to go to college and escape her small town in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains. She has big dreams, but meets Richard her senior year and moves in with him. Seven years later, they are still dating, Elizabeth is involved with charities, but never held a real job and has yet to follow her dreams of joining the Peace Corps.
At a Christmas party, Richard tells her that he's moving on and she needs to move out. She has no money saved and nowhere to go, except home to Tennessee, her mom, and her nan's farmhouse.
Will Elizabeth find her true self in the hometown she escaped 11 years earlier? Will she reconcile with her best friend Naomi who she lost contact with when she left for college? Will she meet a new guy, Mr. City, at the new trendy coffeehouse in town? Will she be able to save the family farm from a developer's plans to turn the farm into a mountain resort?
A feel-good story of finding yourself and what brings you joy and the importance of family.
