It’s amazing how fast you can run when there’s a fucking Rottweiler chasing you

I got interested from the very beginning! The first line made me smile!

Run through traffic and hope he gets hit? Feasible, but also likely that I’d be struck by a car, which has never been on my to-do list.

Whatever, you’ve all thought it before too, so don’t judge me.
Some people just ask for it and I duly give it.

The Characters were good. I personally hated the protagonist in the beginning but each chapter brought me closer to him and I did understand him.

So, this is the story of Josh who is in love with Allison and plans to marry her. But on his awesome proposal night, he get unexpectantly rejected!

I pulled out some “Remember when we... moments which girls always melt for. As she was dripping into a puddle, I pulled out the ring and said the words that every man loves to dread.

Then came the worst words that can be said after a proposal. “Can we talk about this?
Are you fucking kidding me?
“It’s just that I don’t know if I’m ready for that yet.
Are you fucking kidding me?
“You know I love you so much.

I briefly debated jumping off and wondered how long it would take until I finally hit the ground. Instead, I yelled down to the carnie to bring us down.

She cares for him and worries about him, but he is too pissed to give a damn and wants to ignore her till he gets himself back to normal.

It’s amazing that after shooting you in the heart, girls will often want to smile and cuddle afterwards. What they don’t realize is that most of the time we just want to get them back. We want revenge. Not serious revenge, just little victories here and there.

He loses a lot while trying to not care about her, about anything!

I laughed out loud as I recounted the last 24 hours. “I’m like a bad movie, I mumbled to a stranger as he walked past me in the opposite direction. Maybe it’ll end up being one of those movies that’s so bad that it’s good, I thought.

But then he meets a new girl, a girl with whom he could start over! But he doesn’t wanna cheat on Allison either.

Then I thought of Allison for a moment and wondered what her night was like. Was she still hoping that I’d come around and go back to her?

I loved how Josh imagined being in the spotlight whenever something movie-like happened in his life. In guess I do it too at times but not that occasionally and definitely not with that much detail about the cameramen! I see it like seeing a movie and not shooting it.

Most of the time I just got into a zone and didn’t see, feel, or have any real interaction outside of my own mind. It was like when you’re driving and 50 miles down the road you suddenly can’t remember driving that distance because you were in a trance conjured by the endless stream of white lines ticking like the seconds on a clock rolled out flat.

I really liked this! It was a good read. The story was rather simple but I was impossible not to laugh throughout the book. Bowick writes so nice. It was the writing that kept me interested way more than the story itself.

Humor. Little adventures. Relationship Drama. Nicely described feelings and thoughts with great examples. Sarcastic Comments. Twisted story. Nice ending.

Her version was rife with emotional torment, like a made for TV movie. Mine was CNN. Telling the story for the third time was much easier and the facts starting to feel like truth to me, and thus they would to everyone else.

Some of it wasn’t really realistic but it was amusing to keep going. I don’t think Bowick let me get bored at any point!

That’s the fun with dreams, they’ll lie right back to you.

I love how welcoming the showers and baths are described, because I feel the same way!

The shower had never felt so welcoming. The water hugged me as I stepped into the tub, rubbing my shoulders, patting my back and assuaging my nerves as a good friend would after a break up. ‘There, there it said to me as I cleaned myself from the night’s workout on my body. Everything is going to be just fine.

He did had something against girls or maybe he was just smart!

She opened the door, happy to see me, but her face wasn’t quite as full of life as normal. Asking a girl if she’s alright is like jaywalking across a black ice-covered 4 lane street: You think you can make it safely to the other side, but you’re more likely to slip and fall to a most certain death. I was not in the mood to die I decided that I’d better ask. “Are you ok? I spat out hesitantly.

I’d learned a long time ago that often the best thing you can say is nothing. Instead, I offered the comfort of my arms for as long as she needed, stroking her long, soft strawberry blonde hair as she wept quietly.

You know what they say about a butterfly flapping its wings on the other side of the world? The same applies to a girl shaking her head in disappointment. The damage may be less significant instead of a hurricane it’s heartache–but depending on who you ask, both could be equally negative.

I was originally pulled towards this book from the title, but I don’t think it was more about disappearing than reappearing and getting back on your feet when life knocks you out! I pitied Josh towards the end. Really, poor guy! But I guess he made his comeback in the end :)

Some More Quotes:

There should be a rule about judging things when you’re in a foul mood. It shouldn’t count. (Of course you hated my movie, your dog just died!)

It has been my experience that discussions when any member of a party is angry are completely worthless and they never lead to a positive finale. It was better to wait for everyone’s food to cool down before starting to eat, otherwise someone would walk away with a burnt tongue. I hate having my tongue burnt, so I finally decided to take the next step.

I could hear Sascha trying to dig into Allison with an old, dull pickaxe looking for some kind of explanation of what the hell that was all about. Knowing Allison, he wouldn’t find any gold for years and would eventually either die or give up and head back east.

I shook my head. It was all so stupid. Really I had no right to be angry, but I was. I wasn’t used to having that amount of the feeling inside me and my body wasn’t sure how to cope with it. ‘Who’s this new kid in town? my cells asked as my blood temperature rose.
“Josh, I’m sorry. I know this must be hard for you.

Nicole was rubbing my arm though I couldn’t feel anything except pain and anger. I looked at her and saw her sifting through words and rearranging them in her head, like a magnetic word jumble on the fridge, trying to find the right combination that would make things right.

I highly recommend it :)

When I decided to download this free ebook, I wasn't expecting much from it. I had never heard of this author or his works before, so this was a sort of leap of faith. But I wasn't that worried with the possibility of not enjoying this because I didn't have to pay for it -- it wouldn't feel like waste of money if I didn't like the book.

Having said this, I actually had a really good time reading this rather sort ebook. The story is quite simple and is punctuated with very funny details. Maybe some of these details were a bit too weird to be true, and Josh, with all the bad stuff happening in his life, was incredibly lucky. But it was a funny read, and it was impossible not to laugh as I imagined some of the scenes.

How to Disappear Completely is not an example of a great literary piece of work, but it is funny and light enough to amuse you. Great read to forget about problems for a while.

How To Disappear Completely wasn't all that interesting a story in my opinion, but Bowick makes it a blast to read. I was laughing out loud within the first minute of reading it.

After proposing to his girlfriend and being reject, the main character, Josh, is left to figure out what he really wants out of life. He quickly meets another woman and experiences quite the series of adventures before the story ends, but as I said before, it's the writing that makes this story truly entertaining.

Several aspects of the story were a bit over the top. Josh has got to be either the luckiest or unluckiest guy that ever lived for this story to seem the least bit realistic, but it was a fun read.

Bowick has a way of throwing in tidbits of information, seemingly subtly, that stand out like a sore thumb and make you go back and read them over again. Many of them were hilarious, some were quite serious. At least that was my experience. That's why I say it was a blast to read. I felt like I kept getting caught off guard by the writing, not the story, the whole way through, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I definitely recommend How To Disappear Completely to anyone looking to reminisce about young adulthood, especially the part about dating and relationships, and laugh until you cry.

Really easy to read - in fact the story is simple enough that, reading it on my iPod whenever I found myself with nothing else to do, I never lost track of the storyline and what had happened the last time I picked up my iPod for a short 10-minute read.

Although it was admittedly predictable towards the middle of the book, I still read on simply because Bowick made a story as simple as this so much fun to read! At times it was completely hillarious. I loved the satire in the book.

Never got bored reading it.

Very interesting book, which tells us the story of a young guy who happens to find love where he least expected. I could picture myself in this guy's skin several times while reading this story and found it quite enjoyable.

This book was not as described in the description when I got it off line for my e-book. I did enjoy the first 100 pages but then the story just started going down hill. I will give the author credit that even though the story was going down he is a good enough author that keeps you reading. He does a very good job at describing things in a unique way that seem very strange but yet very appropriate to the situation. For example.

The character is in the room with his girlfriend who just turned down his marriage proposal, this is their first time talking since the turning down. There is tension and even though they love each other they are struggling to be kind. He says something that he knew was rude and could then felt, "as if small men were suddenly building the great wall between them dividing the room. I continued the silence a bit longer in memorial to those small men who had died in the construction of that wall".

Little things like this where it is a strange description but goes right along with what is going on in the story, he pulled this off many times and very well. I have to say that it did end on a satisfactory note so I was happy about that.

I started this book not knowing exactly what I was reading thinking it was comedy. By the time I realised what I got into, It too late, This bastard tricked my into reading Romance. The first few chapters did have their funny moments then the story slowly started to take a slightly different direction.

The Author teased us a bit with what fact Josh seemed to be able to see into the future (dreaming about things before they happen). This was a bit out of place for the type of story this is, and I almost felt I was back in my familiar SciFi comfort zone. Pity it didn't work to warn him that his X was cheating on him.

Some of the things that happened to Josh was very unfortunate and I found myself being very emotionally stimulated by some of the scenarios that played out with him. The revelation that his almost wife to be Allison was cheating on him, refused his proposal due to that fact, actually got me angry.

I found that with every chapter I just wanted to continue reading and did and I wasn't bored once. After reading this I've got an entirely different view on this genre. Personally I'd recommend it for a quick read, its simple, short, well written, oh and it's free.

I was only a few pages into this book when I realised how completely awful it was. But similar to how I watched an entire season of Lost just so I could tell people that I went on 24 dates with that bitch called Lost and she still didn't put out, I plowed my way through, teeth gnashing and my brow incredulously furrowed at just how bad a book can be.

The protagonist proposes to his girlfriend and is rejected. He then makes some dated references to MySpace, throws in some awful references to Radiohead and makes some tee hee references to a novelty cake shop that makes cakes in penis shapes and these long comforting showers that he has. If this 'writing' was a livejournal, I wouldn't even want to be a friend, let alone a mutual friend.

If I could give this zero stars out of five, I would. Truly and utterly awful. The author should cut his hands off to prevent himself from writing anything ever again.

I must learn the lesson of not judging books by their covers or titles. I thought this was going to be much better than it actually was. I disliked the main character and his arrogance, and I disliked much of what happened in the book. Throughout the book I was planning on rating it one star, but the ending kind of redeemed it and so here I am, rating it two stars. Bravo.

It was a really good light-hearted book. The plot is not that interesting but is the writing that does it, is hilarious, i even laughed out loud a couple times. The book is pretty short and you can read it in an afternoon. I reccommend it for anyone who just want to have a nice light reading and laugh a couple of times. It was nice. Kudos to the author.

The title of this book is what enticed me to read it and having just finished; I question whether the author’s choice suited the story as it doesn’t seem to correspond significantly enough, in my opinion.

Though the plot isn’t mind blowing, the writer’s comical style and interesting ways of presenting things, I thoroughly enjoyed. For me, the book filled its purpose: that was to have a light, relaxing read after having just finished a book which I found fairly taxing on the concentration. This is probably the most ‘of-the-day book I have ever read it couldn’t be more modern which I found a refreshing change from those I tend to usually go for. “A change is as good as a rest, they say and this book was definitely that for me.

One curious element which puzzled me all the way through was the sporadic placement of the question marks!.does anyone know the purpose of these?!…I’m sure there must be a hidden reason and pattern of which I’m completely oblivious to…enlighten me!!

I will just mention a couple of small negatives briefly and those are: one or two parts seemed a little questionable in terms of how realistic it was that they would occur in real life, also; there was one part in particular which I felt was never tied off…it just ‘evaporated from the plot, which worked out great for the continuance of the storyline, but yeah…probably wouldn’t really happen like that. However; having said that, it wasn’t important and didn’t effect my enjoyment of the book. Oh, and another frustrating feature was that the author often refered to the music being listened to which I assume was to aid our appriciation of the character's feelings and state of mind at the time...only problem was, I've never heard - or recognise - the mentioned titles so was left wondering what the music sounded like and in consequence, what was supposed to be being portrayed!

All in all, an enjoyable, easy-going read…oh and short, though perfect in length for I feel one would feel it dragging if it attempted to go further.

This story takes place in Boston. I have never been there, but the author seemed to do a decent job with painting a visual picture of the place. After reading this book, I'm curious to visit there.
The writing is clever. If I were actually funny and could write, I’d love to write in this style. It starts out great and does a fantastic job of conveying the emotions of Josh, the main character. Josh is less than happy about the stress he is under. He responds interestingly under pressure. I only wish I could be so direct There is wonderful use of profanity and plenty of it. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is feeling down or going through a break up. I was able to reflect on my own crappy life situation, with a bit of humor, while reading this. This story leaves me to wonder... if such drastic measures are what it takes, for one to have an actual 'heart to heart' with their significant other. I only own a rabbit, not a 3 legged Rottweiler, so perhaps I am out of luck. I‘d consider this ‘a light read. There is no big plot or surprising outcome. I appreciated that everything comes full circle by the end. I would like to read more by this author, maybe something with a bit more intrigue

Despite the impression the title may give you, this book isn't about how to disappear, rather it is about how to reappear after life's twisted ways punch you in the gut a few times after getting off a roller-coaster, and to get through it standing. I enjoyed the way David Bowick told josh's story, and i was surprised when i remembered the story only walks you through a few days of his life. this book made me want to have a better relationship with my shower, and visit boston and walk the streets that josh walked to help him think. It made me want to do music reviews, and book reviews. After reading the story the cover, and the title make a lot more sense too. i'd recommend it if you don't let others' dramatic worlds interfere with your own.

Favorite quote from the book (in bold) :
The Club's stereo blasted some punk band as everyone waited for the show to start.
"you want something to drink?" I yelled over bass that was thick and angry enough to kick a puppy.

After reading the first page I knew it, I will immediately become incapable of stopping myself from keeping on reading till the very last page. And I was right. The events were very unique and unpredictable, and that's what I enjoyed the most.
I come to realize how some of our fairy-tales fail to become true only because reality proves to provide more satisfaction, only if we notice it enough.
And although the title gives a specific impression, the situations faced by the main character give the impact that you can't run away from people/fate.
The style of writing had extremely excited me and I can't wait for another novel written by David Bowick.

When I read the title: "How To Disappear Completely", I thought I would learn how to disappear. But the cover was confusing me "Ducks", this could not be about disappearance So I decided to read it.

Bowick success to make it enjoyable reading, fun from the beginning and seduced me to continue reading till the end. The end is openly. The story is like based on a true story. it could happen to anybody.

Most Quote I really like it : "There is always the possibility of a better life with every change that we face, but sometimes we have to look hard for it."

it's like Every Ending is a new beginning. Never be sad for things change. Just be grateful.

So Well Done, David Bowick.

This book had plenty of interesting twists and turns, but it sometimes didn't flow very well, causing some confusion as to what was going on. Also, the formatting didn't work on my Nook, which means that words were cut in half or thirds, and sentences mashed together... which also made it difficult to read. However, formatting and flow aside, once I got the hang of reading the story it was a funny read!

The book was excellent! Being a bit cliche in my explanation, but it did shed some light on the small stuff that can really change our interactions with people we think we know.

I was chuckling at the immediate start of the book and was surprised at how fast the read was! I will be purchasing a hard copy because i think this is one for the bookshelf!

Well, before reading the book, I have expected it to be deeper and more sophisticated even for a comedy book, but yet I have quite enjoyed the way it was written. Bowick had a brilliant way of describing events and encounters and I believe that there lies the beauty of the whole thing. I would recommend the book as delight and light read for a break after reading some heavy book.

The book started out ok, but it only went downhill from there. Full of clichés and with an arrogant self-centered main character, it's not engaging enough to make the story interesting. I was thinking of giving it two stars due to the author's efforts, but using the words 'homo' and 'queer' to try to diminish someone made me lose any kind of empathy towards him.

Great story told from the man's POV -- unusual (in my reading tastes) for me.

One of the BEST opening lines of any book I've ever read -- it set the tone for the story. I laughed, cringed, and shook my head along with the MMC and totally want to name my next dog Satan.
