HE HAD BETRAYED HER Lady Eden Parrish stared in shock at the bare-chested, blue eyed rogue who stood so proudly on the Bridgetown auction block-he was none other than her husband, the despicable Roark St. Claire! Eden had been sent to Barbados in disgrace after her brief, scandalous marriage to the unscrupulous American spy....after the way he's betrayed her, she ought to let his contract of indenture be sold to the highest bidder. But memories of how it felt to be embraced by those strong arms and held tight againt that well muscled chest flooded her mind and body, and soon Eden was offering a fortune for her right to claim him as her own!
SHE STILL LOVED HIM Roark had come to Barbados for only one reason-to reclaim his runaway bride. Of course, getting captured by the British and sold into salvery hadn't been part of the plan, but the situation was working out nicely, all things considered. He would find a way to escape and take the luscious Eden along with or without her consent. The little minx might be his mistress now but he's soon be her master. He knew just how to tame her wild spirit and make those emerald eyes shimmer with passion's fire. Before long he would possess every silken inch of her...for this night and all the nights to come!
Passion's Chains by Catherine Creel was a crazy book that in 1990 could only be published by the Zebra romance lines. It was completely unrealistic, but I loved it. It think this was the first Zebra I read when I subscribed to the Lovegram line many years back.
Eden and Roark fall in love, then secretly marry in England, but before their marriage is consummated, she abandons him when she thinks he's betrayed her. Roark follows her to her Caribbean plantation where he is captured and sold into slavery. Eden sees him at the auction block and to everyone's scandalized shock, she purchases him as her slave.
Perhaps nostalgia plays a part in me remembering this book so fondly, but I loved it. Roark would sneak into Eden's room at night and assume his "husbandly rights," but by day he slaved away in the sugar fields plotting his escape and his revenge.
On the negative side, there was a boring secondary couple, your typical boneheaded villains and silly misunderstandings.
But I don't want to re-read this book to see if it doesn't stand the test of time. I want to recall it as I did way back when...because, oh, I adored this one! Roark was such a great hero.
(I figure this was a rip-off/homage to Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's "Shanna" as the plot is similar, and so are the heroes' names, but as I have never been able to finish K.E.W. due to her never ending clauses and awful purple prose, "Passion's Chains" is good enough for me.)
here I was all set to give a review, my opinion, etc. but why bother? Doesn't my rating speck for itself? I couldn't put it down, and spent more time reading than I'd planned, but don't regret it a bit. I won't give any details, I'll just say read it, and have fun being entertained!
BTW: This is the first time I've read a Catherine Creel novel, and it definitely won't be my last!
Ah I loved this book, I had to read it on Internet Archive which was a bit of a pain, I couldn’t get it uploaded onto Adobe Digital Editions, I just could not work out how to get it authorised 🙄 what a pain 🙄 Anyway I loved Rourk the hero, he came after his wife (in name only) he knows his feelings for her, there was no hiding his feelings, he was upfront with saying those three little words (aww how sweet) which was nice n refreshing. Lady Eden did get on me nerves a bit, there was a lot Ooh I hate you LOL
